Hot Corners do not seem to put Mac to sleep or activate screen saver

All was been working fine and as expected on my Macbook until the 10.6.2 update. I have left hot corner set as screen saver, and right hot corner set to sleep the display. When I go to the hot corners, sleep or screen saver is activated, but then I walk away and a few minutes later the screen comes on again...
At first I thought this was just my macbook (nothing was running but email and no external devices attached), but then It started doing this to my MacPro after the last update...exact same thing.. Then it started happening to my work iMac, then my daughters iMac and now my sons iMac. The only machine that doesn't seem to be effected is my wifes MacMini - and she is still running 10.6.1.
Does anyone know if there is an update somewhere, or how to fix this issue?
thanks

I would not regard myself as expert and you are going to get opinions for both approaches. I have just passed on a 3 year-old MacBook Pro that has never been off, apart from updating when restarts are required. Similarly, my iMac sleeps (protected by UPS) and is not turned off. I am happy this way.
I would take slight exception to your process, however. In my opinion, I put the MacBook Pro to sleep by using OptionCommandDelete (or the Apple menu) and wait until the power light pulses before closing the lid.

  • Hot corners do not work. Is there a plist that can be deleted to rectify this?

Is there a plist that can be deleted for hot corners?  I cannot get them to work at all.  Thanks for any help.

"The easiest way to get the hot corners temporarily working again is to launch the Terminal.app and type "killall Dock" in." quoting Michaël Betsch
I tried this but it still doesnt work. Just to clarify, i'm using a MacBook Pro MAC OS X v10.7.2 Lion.
I even tried changing the hot corners and changing it back. But all the 4 corners still doesn work.
I encounted this several times already. I tried rebooting my mac and it worked after startup.
Is there a better solution to it besides rebooting my laptop?

  • Energy saver will not put Mac to sleep

I have a new Intel Mac mini. I am running off an external drive (MiniStack2). The drive was formatted and then had data transferred from old G4. The internal drive, when used as a start-up disk, functions fine. The external drive will not enter sleep mode (screen turns off, but not HD). The G4 had similar problem. Not sure why one drive as start-up drive and other does not. I have quit all active processes and tried every set of options - the machine will not put HD to sleep.
Is there a plist or other file I must reload? I am certain this is a software issue. Problem in 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 (and 10.4.x on G4)

  • Hot Corners do not work on second (extended) display

    Hi all!
I'm using a 24" ASUS display to extend my MB's screen, when using it at home.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard, the hot corners still work with/on my MB's screen, but no longer with/on my ASUS-screen.
After defining the hot corners in the system preferences, everything works well, even with the second screen, but when I shut the MB down, and start it again on the next day, the hot corners only work with the MB-screen, and no longer with my ASUS-screen.
Sorry for my bad english, but I hope you understood my problem so that anyone might be able to help me, or at least share the experience...
    Thanks!

    No ideas?

  • Remote no longer puts mac to sleep

I know front row is gone... (switched to Plex now, though I am still upset that Front Row was removed)
But other remote functions seem to be gone.
For example, I used my remote to put my mac to sleep after watching a movie.
It was one of my favorate things (besides front row).  When I am in bed, my Mac is my media box, and my remote controls it..
    Not... Anymore?
Yes Plex works, but I cant put the Mac to sleep.
    Ideas?

  • Is it better to put Mac in sleep or just power off?

    Hi there,
I am a new user for Mac, (i just have one Macbook Pro) would very much to know the suggestion: either we should close the lip, put the mac in sleep mode or power off every day when finished the work?
which one is better for computer? someone says better not turning on and off every day, do so unless you will not use Mac for days. but I also found people says keep the computer in sleep mode might have trouble to wake it up later...
    any experts suggestion?

  • Is it good to put mac to sleep or shut down?

Hello, I wanted to know which is better for my macbook air, putting it to sleep or shutting it down? I use it almost everyday, exceptions when I am at work and sleeping. When is best to shut it down?

I believe there's no right or wrong answer ... it's personal preference.  I use my MacBook Air every day, and keep it asleep during the day when I'm not using it.  But I shut it down every night.

  • I figured out how to put photos onto the Apple TV Screen-Saver

I was having trouble using photos with the Apple TV screen saver.
I got as far as putting them into the photo stream, but some photos were crooked, with no way of editing them.
I called Apple, they didn't know what to do.
I am submitting this after calling Tech Support at Apple, wanting to give them the information...don't know if they really took it to heart.  I figured this out myself with the help of my son.
I want to share it with others.
    So, let me begin:
I texted my son, he had set it up once for me, but I deleted the file.
So he told me to edit the photos on my iPhone, in my photostream.  Well there wasn't any to edit.  The file was not there.
So going through my PC, I clicked on "My Computer"
    I clicked onto "iCloud Photos"
I get what looks like the above photo.  Click on "New photo stream"
You will then get this screen.  In the "to" field, send it to yourself.  And then name your file, click "next".
It will then give you this screen:
When all the photos load, click done.
THEN, go to your Apple TV.
    Settings:
    Click on "Screen Saver"
    Click on "Photos"
    Click on "iCloud Photos"
Click on the file you named on your PC.
Now you will find, like me on "previewing" that some pictures were not straight.
Go to your iPhone, click on your "Camera Roll"
    Click on "Photo Stream"
Then you will see your file that you created for your screen saver.
Click onto your file, from there you can click on the crooked photo and click "Edit", it asks to save it to "Camera Roll".  Click there.
What I did then was delete the crooked picture and at the bottom of this file within your "Photo Stream", go to the bottom of the photos, it will have a tile with a plus sign in it.  Click on that to add from your "Camera Roll" the corrected picture.
Do this for every crooked photo.
    ALL DONE!
When done, go to your "Camera Roll" and delete these photos.

This issue is resolved, through the generous advice of folks on this page.
See my reply to Apple (2nd gen.) photo shuffle.  The Fix that I posted works for Apple 3 Gen, which was just purchased Dec. 27,2013.

  • Why does my Mac Pro now crash when screen saver starts?

I've upgraded my Mac Pro Mid 2010 (5,1) from 10.8.5 to 10.9.3 and I have a problem.  When I use one of the screen savers without a photo, the screen saver works fine.  But when I try to point it to one of my existing photos on the machine, it hangs when the screen saver kicks in and I have to force quit to get it running again.
I believe this must have to do with some permissions issues with where my image files are, but am not sure how to fix it.
    Anybody else have this problem?
    Thanks....

But does it then come fully awake? My MB Pro comes on with out of focus screen as if in a fog but once it comes awake it clears up, there is a progress bar at the bottom showing the progress from sleep

  • Unidentified process puts mac to sleep

A few days ago my mac started displaying a pop up window announcing that it was scheduled to go to sleep in 60 seconds. This notification has since appeared every day around 7.30pm (I haven't checked the exact time or determined whether it differs from one day to the next).
First thing I did was to see if my mac was indeed scheduled to go to sleep by checking the Energy Saver control panel. It isn't. Nor are any other users logged in that could have scheduled the mac to go to sleep.
I downloaded Cronnix to check if any sleep events were scheduled by me or 'root'. Again, no such events seem to be scheduled.
Does anyone know how I can find out how to cancel the sleep schedule for my mac? More generally: is there a way to find out (e.g. using Terminal) at what time my mac is scheduled to go to sleep?

    Hello again:
I hunted all over but could not find a preference file (there must be one that affects wake schedules). You might want to look at all of the preference files to see if something jumps out. Since I do not have a scheduled wake event, I would not have a preference file that would be relevant. There are some things in Macintosh HD>system>library but I have not done anything with those items and never suggest things that have an unknown outcome.
I went through a lot of material, but could not find anything relevant.
I do remember something from a long time ago, but it is fuzzy. As I recall, I read about someone having the same problem. They entered a wake schedule and then could not get rid of it. If my memory is OK (a stretch) they entered a wake schedule time. Shut the computer down. Booted and eliminated the wake schedule. Shut down and booted again. Problem went away.
The above sounds quite arcane - even to me, but it cannot hurt anything either.

  • Putting mac to sleep

Hi all you out there. Does anyone know if it is possible to create a keyboard shortcut to put an imac to sleep? I thought automator or maybe quicksilver would be able to but I can't seem to find any way of doing it, has anyone got any ideas.

Are you saying this keycombo only turns off the screen of your iMac? Your machine does not go to sleep?

OK, thanks. First, open Disk Utility and the Repair Disk Permissions on your internal HD. You can find DU in Applications - Utilitie. After doing so please restart in Safe Mode, this is easily done by holding down the Shift Key on your keyboard when you hear the start up tone, you will see a progress bar appear letting yuo know it's starting in Safe Mode. Then reset the SMC and PRAM, instructions can be found by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset. Then retest.
