Hot Corners is/are a mess!

I used to be able to use Hot Corners in Settings, and move the cursor to the bottom left of the screen of my Macbook Air, and view all open applications. Now when I do this, I am only shown the current application. All of the other hot corner settings work as I set them.
Also....why do my inserted images in forum messages show up as tiny icons?
Thanks for ay help.

Is Mission Control the same as seeing all open apps?
If you are only using one Desktop, then yes. If you are using more then one Desktop, then you need to switch between Desktops to see all open applications.
Why are hot corners set in the Desktop/Screensaver area of System Preferences?
Because that is the way Apple made it.

  • Hot Corners-What are they?

This may be a beginner question, but I am a beginner and I haven't been able to find a clear answer to what hot corners are and what they do. So basically my questions are,
    What are hot corners?
    How do you activate them?
I'm pretty sure that I know what they are and I set one up to start a screen saver, but I haven't been able to figure out how how to make them work...to make the screen saver start.
    Thanks,
    Colleen

Hot corners can have special meanings to the screensaver; if the cursor is left in a hot corner, it will override the standard delay before the screensaver activates and optionally start it immediately, or not start it at all.
To set up a hot corner, open the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences, click on Screen Saver, press the Hot Corner button, and then choose an action from the drop-down menu corresponding to that corner.

  • Hot Corners Stopped Working

Strange, up until yesterday my hot corners were so sensitive I was constantly activating them accidentally; now they are not activating at all.
System Prefs>Desktop & Screensaver>Hot Corners is not doing it for me! Reboot?

    Hi David!
That sounds really strange. Can you think of anything you might have done/changed on you mac before the hot corners stopped working? Any new applications installed, for example?
Maybe a resart might work, if you haven't done that already. Also, try using Disk Utility (found in HD>Applications>Utilities) to "Verify Disk Permissions" and "Repair Disk Permissions" on your Hard Drive. That might sort out any little bugs which might be stopping your hot corners from working.
I take it, that your 'Hot Corners' Preferences are properly set to what you want? What ahppens if you put them back to "Nothing", restart and then put them onto what ever triggers you want?
    I hope that helps!

  • Hot corners enabling screen saver/ ss not working; restart they're working

Hi, for no discernable reason, my hot corners which are set to start secreen saver were not working; neither it seemed was my screen saver turning on. My computer seemed simply to be going to sleep from the screen image of the desktop without benefit of having gone through the screen saver cycle first. I ran disk utility and verified permissions. Then I did the old pc trick of rebooting the computer. That seemed to have done it. My hot corners are working the way they were set up to function. Por Que? Why is my PB G4 behaving like a PC?
    Thanks.

    Hi, Nagafugi
Had the same problem and here's what worked for me:
Navigate to System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver/ and click the Hot Corners button.
I generally set the bottom left corner to Start Screen Saver, with all of the other corners set to minus. I temporarily set the top left corner to Disable Screen Saver, and after moving the mouse pointer into that corner, I was then able to use my bottom left corner again to start my screen saver.
I put the top left corner back to minus.
    Simple enough and good luck!

  • Dock, Expose, Hot Corners etc. don't work anymore! Solutions?

Two days ago I decided to restart my Macbook. When the screen popped up it gave me the option of "Reopen windows when logging back in". I never noticed this before switching from Snow Leopard to Lion but maybe it's always been there. Anyways, as you know it is checked by default so I unchecked it just out of curiosity and restarted my system.
When the system came back on, my desktop background had vanished, hot corners will not work, dock does not show up, and when I try to change any of these preferences they do not take. (i.e.-changing orientation of the dock from bottom to left, it simply won't let me select left) I can only open applications from spotlight, and when I mouse over an item now it turns the font white, which never happened before since I did not have it set like that. In addition, google chrome and safari both crash quite frequently since these mess-ups, and so I have resorted to doing all of my work from Firefox.
I've read in these forums as well as other place on the web about this problem happening, but I have tried all of the remedies to no avail. In the past, the problem for users was a lot of the time caused by the use of a wireless mouse. However, I have never used a wireless mouse so this can't be the problem. I also went in to disk utilities and ran a repair, thinking maybe something might click but nothing did. I have restarted/shut down many times just to see if the problem has fixed itself, which it hasn't yet. I've gone into Activity Monitor and relaunched Finder several times, and also noticed that Report Crash is working super hard on the system for some reason. (Maybe because of many of my programs freezing and crashing?)  I also deleted many recent downloads, since I had one or two unfinished downloads and this had been the problem for one user inparticular...I did a "Secure Empty Trash" from the finder menu for these items. I also ran CleanMyMac and uninstalled a couple of applications that I don't use just for good measure...still NOTHING.
I'm in no way an expert with computers, I just own a macbook and it's having problems. If you guys could lend your expertise as a last ditch effort that'd be great. I'd prefer not to take it to GeekSquad, Apple Store, or a repair shop because I'm a college student and I'm literally broke at the moment, so any remedies or ideas would take weight off of my chest.
    Thanks in advance-Jameson

Also, this black bar shows up towards the bottom of the screen on the left side when it's on the apple loading screen. Not sure what it is...and yes I have also run system updates.

  • Using my MacBook with a "docking station" setup issues with hot corners

I have a 13" white 1.83GHz Core Duo MacBook. Came with 512MB of RAM, upgraded that to 2GB from OWC. then my HDD started to die, so while replacing that I went from the 60GB to a 120GB SATA 1.5 5400RPM HDD. This is my main system, I use it for both work and home. At work I use the laptop display, keyboard, and touchpad. But at home, I use a 19" wide via Mini DVI to VGA, one of those new bluetooth apple keyboards (just got it, one of the best keyboards I have ever touched), and a USB wired Microsoft mouse.
The issues I have been having are as follows: I get home, plug in the power, video, and mouse. then click a key on the keyboard and it will wake up. But half the time my hot corners don't work, and I am unable to see other PCs on my network. I reboot and these issues are fixed. Then I leave from home, and try to wake up the Book at work, half the time it wont wake up, and when it does, same issues, hot corners don't work, magnify doesn't work. Can't see other PCs until I reboot. I have a short drive, and I prefer to just put it to sleep.
One other issue. I play World of Warcraft on this system, and in the last couple of weeks, it will produce system lag. to the point where it gets really hard to keep playing. Other people I know have identical systems that play it just fine. Any ideas?

Yes, the use case you describe is possible.
If you buy the Lenovo fingerprint keyboard, then you are buying something that has been tested with ThinkPads and we provide a driver for Win8/Win8.1
If you buy some other fingerprint keyboard, we can't guarantee whether it will work or not.  At least, make sure there's a Win8/Win8.1 driver for it.

  • My macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset. the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from the 'top sites' page.

my macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset.
the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from safari 'top sites' (without a hassle). attempts to reset dock and hot corners from preferences has been fruitless
the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.
    what shoud i do?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).
    Good luck,

  • My two right hot corners stopped working

The two right hand hotcorners of my Macbook Pro stopped working 2 days ago. The left hotcorners work fine, as the right ones did, but suddenly nothing. I already tried the thing with erasing the dock file from the library and restarting the laptop, but it didn't help. I'm a little frustrated,,,is this a bug or what?

    Try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Also go to system preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver>screen saver tab, in the bottom left corner click hot corners and see if they are blank, somehow it was dumped and try resetting them to your preferences.
Try this before the smc reset. Sorry I had to fire up my Lion machine to check this.
    All the best

step 3. exit and Restart computer

  • Hot Corners do not seem to put Mac to sleep or activate screen saver

All was been working fine and as expected on my Macbook until the 10.6.2 update. I have left hot corner set as screen saver, and right hot corner set to sleep the display. When I go to the hot corners, sleep or screen saver is activated, but then I walk away and a few minutes later the screen comes on again...
At first I thought this was just my macbook (nothing was running but email and no external devices attached), but then It started doing this to my MacPro after the last update...exact same thing.. Then it started happening to my work iMac, then my daughters iMac and now my sons iMac. The only machine that doesn't seem to be effected is my wifes MacMini - and she is still running 10.6.1.
Does anyone know if there is an update somewhere, or how to fix this issue?
    thanks

I would not regard myself as expert and you are going to get opinions for both approaches. I have just passed on a 3 year-old MacBook Pro that has never been off, apart from updating when restarts are required. Similarly, my iMac sleeps (protected by UPS) and is not turned off. I am happy this way.
I would take slight exception to your process, however. In my opinion, I put the MacBook Pro to sleep by using OptionCommandDelete (or the Apple menu) and wait until the power light pulses before closing the lid.

  • Dock hiding and hot corners no longer work

I am not sure exactly when it began, but for the past 2-4 weeks, my hot corners and dock hiding have been very erratic. At seemingly random times, all the sudden my hot corners stop being active, so when I move my pointer to the corner, the designated task whether it be dashboard, Expose, screen saver, etc. as selected in preferences no longer activates. Dock hiding stops working as well. The dock hides, but when I move my cursor over where the dock is parked it doesn't appear, it stays hidden. I can click command alt d and the dock will appear or disappear, but will not appear by just moving the cursor to the side of the screen where the dock is parked. I have not added any new software lately other than Apple OS 10.6.4 and whatever Safari, iTunes etc updates that keep coming at along at pretty regular intervals. Interestingly I have an iMac at work and at home, and they both are misbehaving in the same way. They are similarly populated with software, although not exactly. When I update one, I update the other. Both started misbehaving at about the same time.
I have rebooted- sometimes works, sometimes not. I have trashed the dock and finder plist- works for awhile, but problem always returns. I have reset the PRAM- works for awhile, but problem always returns.
Any thoughts. I like being able to hide the dock to gain that extra bit of screen space, although the command alt d, is an adequate if not ideal work around. But I really like the hot corners, and I do not know of a work around for that problem.

The university requires all computers to have anti-virus software and recently switched to Sophos from Symantec, in July I believe. That was a new software install. Since it just works in the background and I never actually access it, I had forgotten about that. I hope that is not the problem, as I am required to have antivirus software.
And no I have not created a new user to log in. It is erratic enough that I don't know how long would have to be on to see if the problem recreated itself. Sometimes it seems like just minutes after I start the computer up and sometimes hours. Right now it is still working since starting this morning.

  • Getting Hot Corners to work with Captivate 6 Recording

I've been having trouble getting hot corners to work when I'm using Captivate 6 for desktop recordings. I've tried telling the program to record a custom resolution that is slightly smaller than the screen size to see if that would help, but neither that or full screen recording fixes it. When I mouse into the corners during a captivate recording nothing shows up, but if its not recording they work fine. Any thoughts?

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums
Do you have Windows or MAC ?
Did you try a different user account on your computer for recording ?
Which recording option are you choosing ? (Video Demo, Automatic Recording or Manual Recording)
Could you upload some sceenshots to elaborte your issue ?
    Thanks,

  • Displaying all application windows through Hot Corners is no longer working.

I have my MacBook Pro and my iMac setup to display APPLICATION WINDOWS through the upper right HOT CORNER.   It is no longer working on my iMac.  Instead, the system only displays the top/recent used window.  The display separates and shows the most recent window floating, but, no longer does it arrange windows of each application on the desktop.  There are no other options, it's either set in HOT CORNERS or not.   What changed?   It still works on my MacBook.  Version update = 10.10.2 (14C1514)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Hot Corners

My Hot Corners are set, yet every now and then I have to reset them because they have stopped working. I go check to see in system preferences-->mission control--> hot corners and they are still set properly but not working. If I change the corners to do something else then back to what i want they work for about 2 days then stop working again. Any thoughts on this because I use the corners all the time and it's becoming a hassel to fix it all the time?

Create a new folder onto the desktop, move these preferences files from ~/Library/Preferences/ to that folder, restart, and try to reset the hot corners again.
    com.apple.dock.plist
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.recentitems.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
I just changed mine and those were the ones that changed. Note that will change your current preference settings, so you'll have to reset them. If moving those fixes things, then you could replace them one at time, after making copies of the newly created ones, until you determine which one's the culprit.
Another option is to create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if those options pop back up. Again, you'll have to the substitution trick to isolate the bad one.
