Hot corners: screen saver
Dear Applelovers,
Happy Seasons Greetings to you and yours.
I continue to have a problem enabling 'hot corners' to work. I have tried, particularly in the Screen Saver section of System Preferences, but no luck.
I am able to selct the hot corners feature by clicking the box, but the corners no longer seem to respond when it comes to starting the screen saver. I am able to put the display to sleep as well as other selections, but enabling the corners to allow the screen saver to begin is a no-go.
Looked around the forums and elsewhere online; though this seems to be a "known issue", I have yet to discover a fix for it.
Thoughts?
I think what you want to do is in System Preferences > Security > under the General Tab. You set this up to require a password after the screen saver kicks in.

Apple Fans,
Here is the setup and followup question.
I have my powerbook screen saver set up to display the "Hot News"/RSS Visualizer. Therefore, when it is time to switch over to the screen saver the news pops up on, I quess what you would call, a rotating type of display and if i want to access the information shown at that time I touch the coresponding number (ex. Apple launches Quicktime 8... press "2" for more info), blah, blah, blah, you know.
Anyway... the background when this happens is blue. How can I change the color background?
I have gone to the screen saver section and I don't see a place in there that this can be done.
Thanks in advance for any helpful hints!
Allen

no, i didn't know that. thanks for the info. i think the rss feed/screensaver was a great idea that apple came up with. i'm sure its got a few fans out there.
i must admit though that i am a bit suprised that i can't change the color. oh well.
thanks for the help anyway.

Hot Corners do not seem to put Mac to sleep or activate screen saver
All was been working fine and as expected on my Macbook until the 10.6.2 update. I have left hot corner set as screen saver, and right hot corner set to sleep the display. When I go to the hot corners, sleep or screen saver is activated, but then I walk away and a few minutes later the screen comes on again...
At first I thought this was just my macbook (nothing was running but email and no external devices attached), but then It started doing this to my MacPro after the last update...exact same thing.. Then it started happening to my work iMac, then my daughters iMac and now my sons iMac. The only machine that doesn't seem to be effected is my wifes MacMini - and she is still running 10.6.1.
Does anyone know if there is an update somewhere, or how to fix this issue?
thanksI would not regard myself as expert and you are going to get opinions for both approaches. I have just passed on a 3 year-old MacBook Pro that has never been off, apart from updating when restarts are required. Similarly, my iMac sleeps (protected by UPS) and is not turned off. I am happy this way.
I would take slight exception to your process, however. In my opinion, I put the MacBook Pro to sleep by using OptionCommandDelete (or the Apple menu) and wait until the power light pulses before closing the lid. -
Hot corners enabling screen saver/ ss not working; restart they're working
Hi, for no discernable reason, my hot corners which are set to start secreen saver were not working; neither it seemed was my screen saver turning on. My computer seemed simply to be going to sleep from the screen image of the desktop without benefit of having gone through the screen saver cycle first. I ran disk utility and verified permissions. Then I did the old pc trick of rebooting the computer. That seemed to have done it. My hot corners are working the way they were set up to function. Por Que? Why is my PB G4 behaving like a PC?
Thanks.Hi, Nagafugi
Had the same problem and here's what worked for me:
Navigate to System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver/ and click the Hot Corners button.
I generally set the bottom left corner to Start Screen Saver, with all of the other corners set to minus. I temporarily set the top left corner to Disable Screen Saver, and after moving the mouse pointer into that corner, I was then able to use my bottom left corner again to start my screen saver.
I put the top left corner back to minus.
Simple enough and good luck!

Hot Corners: Start Screen Saver not working
I have enabled two Hot Corners with the Start Screen Saver option, but when I mouse over to the corner, nothing happens. Console logs show nothing, so it is like it is not even being triggered. If I do a Screen Saver Preview inside System Preferences, it launches fine. If I launch it from the terminal, it also works fine ( sudo open -a /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ScreenSav erEngine.app). My other Hot Corners Desktop and Notification Center work fine. The only unique thing hardware wise is that I have an additional monitor attached to my iMac via Dual-Link DVI.
Any ideas before I submit it as a bug?

Hot corners for screen saver and sleep stopped working
All of sudden my hot corners don't seem to work. They were fine the last time I tried to use them. I place the cursor in the corner and nothing happens?
I shutdown the system and tried a different keyboard and the hot corners worked!m So I shut the system down again and hooked up the possibly bad keyboard and the hot corners also worked. The only other thing I had done was to disconnect the logitech receiver for the remote mouse and tried to use the mouse with the older keyboard. I neededto hook up the logitech remote mouse again, because the system would not recognize the old keyboard mouse. So somtething happened, but i'm not sure what. I'm back to good for now.

Hot Corners not disabling screen saver
Hello folks, Im trying to watch movies and using hot corners to keep my ss from coming on but its not working. Tried disabling/enabling them, all four corners, mouse cursor in different spots but all the same result - ss keeps coming on! Gahh! Any tips or troubleshooting methods? Thanks.
Hi again, Aaron —
OK, let's try some troubleshooting steps to solve your Exposé problem (that's the name of the OS X feature that, among other things, provides the "hot-corners" functionality).
(1) Please note that some Dashboard widgets have been reported to exhibit incompatibilities with Exposé. You may want to check on this — and update to later versions or disable any suspect Widgets.
(2) When you have "a lot of things like this" that aren't working as expected, it's usually very helpful to isolate what may be vs. what definitely isn't contributing to the behavior(s). One way to do this is to set up a temporary "test" user account with administrative privileges. (As always, be sure to remember the password!) Then log-in as this user, and take whatever steps are necessary to determine whether the problematic behavior(s) persist. If they do, the problem is "systemic" ; is they go away, the problem is apparently restricted to your user account. Apple's KnowledgeBase Article 25398 — Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue (also linked above) explains troubleshooting steps to take from there.
For what's next, I'll presume this problem is associated with your user account:
(3) Exposé, the Dock, and Dashboard are closely associated functions. Because Exposé's preferences are stored along with the Dock's, one step that will frequently help resolve its problems is to remove the com.apple.dock.plist file from your ~/Library/Preferences/ folder (the ~e and / "path" nomenclature are defined here) — either temporarily to the Desktop or to the Trash, and then restart.
Please note that this will refresh all the associated preferences to their original, "default" values — so you will have to reconfigure your Dock & Exposé preferences. (You may want to take a screenshot of the Dock's current configuration first.)
There are other potential troubleshooting steps to try if these aren't successful. Please post back to apprise us of your progress — and to discuss this further, if it remains unresolved.
Good luck!

Screen Sharing and Hot Corners/expose bug?
I tried searching but I came up with nothing. I have an iMac and a Macbook. On the iMac I have hot corners set up to use expose. On the bottom left I have it show the desktop and on the bottom right I have it show all windows. Now when I use my macbook to screenshare with my iMac and try to drag a file on the iMac, it activates one of the hot corners even though my mouse cursor is no where near either of the corners. If I deactivate the hot corners, I can drag just fine but I don't want to have to do that every time I use screen sharing. So this is making screen sharing pretty useless. Anyone else have this problem? I just submitted a bug report too.
I have the same problem. Very annoying.

"Disable Screen Saver" hot corner no longer prevents Display Sleep
I am not sure whether it started only after I upgraded to 10.5.7, but I certainly have this very annoying issue right now.
I have "Disable Screen Saver" assigned to the top right "hot corner". Some time ago I could place my mouse pointer there in order to prevent activating of "Display Sleep" (as well as gradually dimming before jumping into bed).
It no longer works. I have my pointer in the right corner, and nevertheless the display first dims, then goes to sleep.
Is this only my problem? Any ideas how to fix it? Thanks!Anybody?

Using destination hot corners when sharing a screen
I am a heavy user of hot corners. I would like to use the hot corners on a desination Mac mini while view the screen (via screen sharing) on an iMac. The screen sharing session is not full screen, and the corners are defined on the screen.
I have searched and there doesn't seem to be an easy answer (yet). Any assistance would be appreciated. The destinatation, Mac Mini, is: 10.7.5.
The source, the iMac where I am accessing the Mac Mini via Screen Sharing: 10.8.5. -
My MacBook Pro restarts (grey screen) when using hot corners.
I just updated to 10.8 from 10.6, and now, whenever I use Hot Corners, it goes to grey screen then restarts.
Any advice? Now it is happening when I open Photo Booth. Here is the report to Apple:

I Can't Get Apple Hot News RSS Screen Saver!
I can't get Apple RSS screen saver! All I can get is the Wikipedia Recent Changes one and I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT!!!!! Please help me get the Apple screen saver back like I used to have.
I get the "Wikipedia Recent Changes (en)" screen saver instead of the Apple one.

Now I would like some help with this if you can. -
Hot Corners have visual representation on the screen
I don't know how I did it, but for any hot corner I have active, there is a visual representation that a corner is a hot corner. I see 1/4 of a circle in a light blue colour. If I turn hot corners off, the little 1/4 circle disappears.
Any ideas how to get rid of the 1/4 circles from the active hot corners. They never used to be there.
Thanks, BHi,
Thanks for your suggestions, but I don't have any of those type of programs installed. I have just got my MBP so have not installed very much at all.
Only tweak I have applied was to stop the computer waking from sleep when you open the lid, and that was done through terminal.
I am not too fussed about it, just feel like I have training wheels on -
Screen saver overrides iTunes cover flow in Lion
On my new iMac (OSX 10.7.1, iTunes 10.4.1), when in full screen cover flow mode, the screen saver overrides this, which is annoying as I like to leave it playing with the artwork displayed. This did not happen on my old (Leopard) Mac. I can't find any preference setting that seems to fix this. I dont really want to turn off the screen saver - I didn't have to before, why now?
Have you tried creating a hot corner (System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver - Hot Corners) to disable the screen saver by parking mouse pointer in the "hot corner."
I'm assuming Lion still has this function.
