Hot iPhone 5

HI i am having a problem that my iphone 5 is getting too hot, can it be because i have it linked with a new pebble smartwatch through blutooth?

How would we know?  Does the phone get hot when it is NOT paired with your smartwatch?

  • Hot iPhone 4 And Draining Battery

I had to wait until this January to finally get my iPhone 4.  A couple of months ago I had to get it replaced by Apple because the ear piece on the phone stopped working. Great customer service by the way. I received the replcement very quickly. Two or three weeks ago I went to get my phone and it was very hot. I hadn't been using it and the battery had drained quite a bit. I checked to be sure and I had zero apps running. But after a shut down and restart it was fine.
But it seems to be doing this a couple of times a week now. I don't want to panic but would like to know what this could be. I just don't want to get stuck with a dead phone either. My year warranty is up at the end of this coming January. But I also don't want to make a claim if I don't have to, I really don't want Apple to think I'm trying to just get a new one.
Has anyone else experienced this and in your opinion should I contact Apple for a replacement?
    Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I reckon you should take it to Apple and tell them your issue. They are most likely to replace the iPhone, even though they might not be able to see the issue at the store. I recently got my iphone 4 replaced with a new one because of a defective home button. The home button issue did not show up at the Apple store, but he said this can happen where issues occur at home and not at the store so he replaced it with a brand new one.  you should be fine, as long as your iPhone is still in warranty.

  • Make a hot iPhone 5 cooler using ice

I am in countryside now. And I am very nessecary to use internet via my 3G.
I am using presonal hotspot via usb and my iphone is very very hot.
I find this way to use a package or a bag of ice or cool water and then place my iphone over it.
What about my phone? I usually do it before.
It will OK? or something (plastic) will be broken??
    Thanks.

Moisture is bad for electronics in general. It is possible liquid will get into your phone if you do this.
The iPhone is designed to function just fine if the ambient temperature is between 32º to 95º F. If you are not seeing a notice on the screen that says the iPhone is too hot and needs to cool down, you do not need to do anything to help it along.

  • HOT iPhone and poor battery life after 1.14 to 2.1 firmware upgrade

I recently upgraded my Original iPhone's firmware from 1.1.4 to 2.1. I did a restore rather than a simple upgrade (backup, restore to version 2.1, restore backup).
After the restore I noticed that my battery life was terrible and that the phone would get very hot (near the top of the phone) sometimes, as if the battery was discharging very quickly. I read a few posts that suggested Push might be the culprit, so I turned Push off (I'm not using MobileMe), and this seemed to solve the problem. However...
I now notice that whenever I play Apple's Texas Holdem from the App Store or play YouTube clips the same phenomena occurs, and that nothing short of a hard reset will stop it.
Oddly, if I refrain from playing YouTube clips or playing Texas Holdem battery life is much better than before the firmware upgrade.
In short, it looks as though there is something wrong with the 2.1 firmware. I see sporadic accounts of similar behavior on the various discussion boards, so I know I'm not alone.
Is there a fix for this behavior?
    Thanks in advance...
    James

Sounds more like an app stuck processing that shouldn't be....does happen from time to time. Behing hot means it is constantly processing.
    To fix:
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.

    For me, 2.1 works great.

  • Extremely hot iphone 5

How come when downloading apps for the phone, my battery become extremely hot (Iphone5)

EXACTLY VERY DISAPPOINTED APPLE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A SUPPORTER AND I AM AWARE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY AND MARKETING SKILLS I COULD WRITE A SMALL BOOK ABOUT YOUR CORE BUSINESS SALES AND MARKETING IT' WORKS AND YOU NEVER CHANGE IT BUT THIS TIME IT WENT REALLY WRONG AND INSTEAD OF BEING A ' COOL' 'INNOVATIVE ' APPLE PERSONALLY I REALLY I'M surprised the issues are basically hidden. I paid 850€ for iPhone 5 and what I have is a phone that slipped from my pocket hit the ground on the right angle because its made of nothing I gave it to apple to get it fixed no warranty obviously and without knowing what it will cost they took 240€ in advance from my credit card saying it will be recredited if the cost is lower. Realistically these are not good signals the company is giving and they could at least help us and Apple YOU ARE NOBODY WITHOUT US.......
WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH PRODUCTION COSTS ARE  ETC..... BE FARE.
JUST THE IDEA NEXT TIME A BUY A PHONE (Samsung) AND IT MAY NOT BE APPLE IS DISTURBING
    I'M very sorry

  • The hot iPhone

I find the iPhone while in my pocket sometimes feels quite warm. Is that because it does not shut down even though the screen goes dark? Are there applications running even though the display is off?

TURN BLUETOOTH OFF WHEN YOUR NOT USING IT... THATS THE PROBLEM, EVERY PHONE GETS HOT WITH B.T. CONSTANTLY ON, ESPECIALLY A METAL PHONE... BUT NOT HOT WHERE IT BECOME A HEAT TO SKIN ISSUE, THATS JUST CRAZY.

  • HOT iPhone 5S

I got 5s for two days, and i like it a lot, but it is very hot during i use apps.want to know how many people have same problem with me.
I turned off many things, like gps, bluetooth, background app refresh siri and location services!
    so i worried about it!!!
    also
My battery died very fast!!!!!!!!!!!!! VERY FAST!!!!

    BRING TO APPLE STORE
iPhones never heat up unless you've been playing hard core 3d games for 9 hours straight. Overheating and huge battery loss isn't normal and there's probably a problem going on in the processor.
I would take it in and say exactly what you posted. You might have bought a defective device and they should give you a refund.
I don't know if you absolutely need Apple Care or a recipt of some kind, but still, take it in. The employees at Apple are very helpful.
    I hope this helps.

  • Hot iphone losing battery

my iphone is getting really hot when not doing anything, it loses its battery really quickly. I havent installed any new apps, but have tried rebooting and tried deleting some apps but nothing seems to help.

It appears that you have an application that is stuck running. Double tap the Home button and bring up the multi-tasking tray. From there, hold down one of the icons until they all wiggle. Press the minus sign on each of them until the tray is empty. Press the home button to close it. Then do a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if this helps. If not, then you may have to do a restore. First try from a backup, however if you have a corrupt file that is causing something to remain running, it may not help. You may need to restore as new. Restoring as new will delete all content from the phone. Make sure you have synced all of your data, import your pictures. You will lose app data and SMS history, but this will clear your problem if it remained after the other restore.

  • Hot iphone

Why is my iPhone 5 easily get hot and battery drained tho i have deleted running apps. is it something wrong with the hardware?

I've had this as well. It's usually after using an Internet application (Safari, Stocks, Weather, etc.) where there was a failed update. There seems to be a stuck thread that not only maxes the CPU but keep the radio transmitting as well.
Hold the phone next to a speaker/radio/landline/etc. and you should be able to hear the inductive noise from the GSM transmitter. Periodic beeps are OK but constant transmitting (when the phone is otherwise idle) indicates a problem.
I've resolved the problem temporarily by switching to Airplane Mode until the transmissions stop, which usually takes about 30 seconds.

  • Hot iPhone 4S (Cases)

I have a MacBook Pro and an itouch. I just recently got an iPhone 4s. After flying and my computer etc. passing through airline security I had some problems with my MacBook. Not big problems but enough to make me wonder, like we have a choice anyway. I would rather be safe yes but I just wonder if all of that is good for them. Has any one else had any problems after airport security?
Also when I got my phone I had a case put on it, one of those cases that covers it all up. I hesitate to mention the name of the case maker for fear of getting in trouble. Anyway, my phone started to heat up after while. It gets hot when I use it very much and also when I charge it. The battery may drop 40% in a matter of minutes. I have taken it back and am getting another one so that problem is fixed. I was just wondering if maybe the case had something to do with the battery and the phone getting too hot. Maybe that is a problem for some other people with their phones as well. I know there has been a lot of talk on here about that subject because I have spent the weekend looking. I wanted to research before I took my phone into the carriers store. Of all the threads that I read no one mentioned about the case. I did read some basic things on the battery and the phone and they do say to let the phone breath a bit. That is why I wondered about the case I was using.
I love my Apple products and will continue to be an Apple user! Thanks to all that have the knowledge to comment on all of these Discussions and answer questions. Great job!

Also I didn't look for "cases" under discussion thread but found them after I posted. Sorry about that.

  • GPS intense apps= hot iphone?

So im not to concernd really but I made an observation and wanted to see if its occurred to others iphones.
The other day i as using a app on my iphone that was using the gps to track my position. THe phone didnt turn off because the app was in use. After awhile i noticed the phone was getting warm. and it remained that way until i quit the app and turned the phone off. Is this a concern? Also I think read somewhere that it is best to charge the ipod or even iphone without a case on because the case insulates the iphone? What is the best way to charge?
    thanks

Thanks for the added information and link to the KB article about the sensors. My phone did not give me a visual warning, rather just refused to charge once heat reached the maximum level. This is the point where I had to turn Airplane Mode on and put the phone in the refrigerator to cool because I thought it would melt itself, literally.
I have a Genius Bar appointment this evening to let them take a look, thank goodness it's still under warranty.
Somewhat loosely related to the comment about Apps needing location data when there isn't anything being provided directly. I want Apple to do the right thing and notify the end user, upon enabling location data for an App, if it will be used for marketing purposes.

  • Camera + Sleep Mode = Hot iPhone + Deleted Battery

Hi. I am wondering if I may have uncovered a bug with the camera application while iPhone is in sleep mode.
I was snapping some pictures, and then I put the iPhone to sleep while the camera application was still active.
About 30 minutes later, when I reached into my pocket, I found that iPhone was quite warm to the touch and that my battery had been depleted from 75% capacity to less than 20% capacity.
I am wondering if this is a bug, where, despite being in sleep mode, the camera application continues to run somehow in the background.
    Comments are most appreciated.

    One thing that might help.
When you press the power button on top of the iphone for a second then release it, it does not put the whole phone to sleep. It is only putting the screen to sleep.
You can test this by listening to music and try pressing the button for just a second then letting go.
The music does not stop playing, but the screen goes blank.
This is so that when you are listening to music on your iphone and you put it in your pocket, another application does not get accidentally activated.
What ever application you have running when you put the screen to sleep keeps running.
The iphone goes to sleep after it sets idle for a few minutes (without any applications running).
Here is a link to the iphone users guide that might help.

    Hope this helps

  • Scolding Hot iPhone... Burned my little sister

    Hey everyone
Today was one **** of an interesting day. I was driving my little sister to class and plugged my iPhone into my Premiere BT700 stereo, all went well got the little this accessory doesn't work with the iphoen thing, launched pandora and went on my way. The phone was laying on my dash on an iGrip dash mat thing, after about 20 minutes of listening to music and it charging my sister picked it up only to burn her hands, very badly. I'm not sure why this happened or how, but now i can't even restore my phone, its stuck at the apple logo with the thinking bars and will not restore, or even load the springboard.
    apple, what the eff?

    Hey guys
just to make things clear, I was NOT posting this message to fire up a lawsuit or anything. I don't have the money, nor the time. @ Crazylegs, I wouldn't neccessarily say it was 100% my fault, only because the techs specs, for the CD deck, say its compatible with the 5th gen iPods, that share the same USB only charging... iPods are different than iPhones I get that, but I would think the internals as far as the USB charging went, were similar. Anyway besides all that I did get my phone to reformat, by putting it into DFU mode one more time around, and did a setup as new iPhone, but sacraficed the 5 years of contacts I've been collecting. I got a lot of them back, but my most recent ones I no longer have...bummer.
With my sister, she is fine, the red marks went away and she's not complaining about them anymore.
Im in class right now, but got 2 phone calls from an apple support representative, so as far as apple wanting to address the issue speaks highly IMO. I'll give them a call as soon as I'm out of class, which won't be until after 5, so ill have to call them tomrrow, and we'll go from there. If there is a moderator reading this that knows what's going on with this issue, Im concerned with getting my phone replaced only for a refurbished one. I've heard and know people who have exchanged several times due to light leaks and dust issues, which non of this one has...so im a little skeptical of getting a refurb especially after i bought it new.
Is there anyway a moderator can PM me about this.. that'd be awesome.
