Hot iphone losing battery

my iphone is getting really hot when not doing anything, it loses its battery really quickly. I havent installed any new apps, but have tried rebooting and tried deleting some apps but nothing seems to help.

It appears that you have an application that is stuck running. Double tap the Home button and bring up the multi-tasking tray. From there, hold down one of the icons until they all wiggle. Press the minus sign on each of them until the tray is empty. Press the home button to close it. Then do a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if this helps. If not, then you may have to do a restore. First try from a backup, however if you have a corrupt file that is causing something to remain running, it may not help. You may need to restore as new. Restoring as new will delete all content from the phone. Make sure you have synced all of your data, import your pictures. You will lose app data and SMS history, but this will clear your problem if it remained after the other restore.

  • My iPhone is getting extremely HOT and losing battery charge by 50% in one hour.

my phone is getting too hot and in an hour or so it will loose the battery life and will turn off ..
i just had a word with the apple care they were like you can get the phone replaced from the country were you bought from, as such i bought this phone from Dubai and now they are like it cant be replaced in india..
    its really frustrating

Where you are sounds far hotter than anyplace I would like to be...in any case, here is some info on acceptable temperatures and other temperature related info..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2101
    from this article...
Operate iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (4th generation) in a place where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life or cause the device to temporarily stop working properly.
Store the device in a place where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.
    are you within this range?

  • Camera + Sleep Mode = Hot iPhone + Deleted Battery

Hi. I am wondering if I may have uncovered a bug with the camera application while iPhone is in sleep mode.
I was snapping some pictures, and then I put the iPhone to sleep while the camera application was still active.
About 30 minutes later, when I reached into my pocket, I found that iPhone was quite warm to the touch and that my battery had been depleted from 75% capacity to less than 20% capacity.
I am wondering if this is a bug, where, despite being in sleep mode, the camera application continues to run somehow in the background.
    Comments are most appreciated.

    One thing that might help.
When you press the power button on top of the iphone for a second then release it, it does not put the whole phone to sleep. It is only putting the screen to sleep.
You can test this by listening to music and try pressing the button for just a second then letting go.
The music does not stop playing, but the screen goes blank.
This is so that when you are listening to music on your iphone and you put it in your pocket, another application does not get accidentally activated.
What ever application you have running when you put the screen to sleep keeps running.
The iphone goes to sleep after it sets idle for a few minutes (without any applications running).
Here is a link to the iphone users guide that might help.

    Hope this helps

  • Iphone 4S losing battery life VERY quickly

Just recently my Iphone 4S has been losing battery life VERY quickly.  I have heard that it may have something to do with a IOS update.  I also have heard from several people that they have suddenly been experiencing the same thing.  Does anyone have a fix to problem?  If so, how?

Many people are having similar issues, especially since the release of iOS6. I went to the Apple store and the first and only thing the fellow did was disable location serivces for the apps that did not really need it, and that doubled my battery life.

  • IPhone REALLY HOT today, and battery dying!

I have had no problems with my iPhone 3G since getting it on July 18, however today I noticed that the battery died very quickly since yesterday's charge. After recharging the battery this morning, I was wearing it here at school and noticed that it was really, really hot and the battery was down to 1/2 power after only 3 hours of just standby use. Any suggestions? Could it be an application that I added last night? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Mike

My iPhone3G is doing the same thing periodically. Every other day or so it just eats the battery very quickly while the screen is off, no apps running (i.e. at the home screen before turning the screen off). The phone gets hot to the touch. I've been trying to narrow it down to a specific app that may be corrupting something but no luck so far.
I've restored the phone a number of times with no effect.
Guest Mike, if your still listening, did the reset mentioned fix the problem for you?

  • Iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge, iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge

Since returning from far east my iphone 5 is now getting very hot and losing charge within half a day at maximum

It is normal for the phone to be warm when the device is being used, or charged.  If it is uncomfortably so, you should probably visit an Apple Retail store and have them take a look, or call AppleCare if you are still under warranty.  They can run a diagnostic to see if there is a problem (But the apple retail store can likely do more as they can visually inspect the device in addition to the diagnostic test).

  • IPhone 4 hot and low battery life?

Why does my I phone 4 have such a small battery life? And it is running hot

    Hello Bmay121,
Thank you for providing the details about the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  I found a couple of resources that may help address this issue.
First, I recommend following these steps if your iPhone has a short battery life:
    Battery life seems short
Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a computer, don't connect iPhone to a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.

You can also find useful information about the iPhone's operating temperatures in this article:When troubleshooting temperature, please refer to the following article:
iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (4th generation): Keeping device within acceptable operating temperatures
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2101
When using the device or charging the battery, it is normal for it to get warm. The exterior of the device functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the device to the cooler air outside. If the interior temperature of the device exceeds the normal operating range, the device will protect its internal components by attempting to regulate its temperature. If this occurs, you may notice the following:
    The device stops charging.
The display dims or goes black.
If the temperature continues to be a concern, you can isolate the issue by restoring your iPhone as new:

  • IPhone 5 battery/heating issue

I have had my iPhone5 almost a year.  In the last couple of weeks I have noticed that it is significantly losing battery power, and when that occurs, often times it gets very hot.  I have turned off location services and the like for most of my apps.  I have wifi turned off when I leave my home.  My Telco's service jumps from 3G to 4G depending on where I am in the city.
I am constantly seeing dramatic drops in battery availablity.  The handset is still under the 1st year warranty, and I wondered if I went to an Apple store would they possubly replace it?
    Thanks for any advice.
    Cheers from Brisbane, Australia

This may not help at all but if you are using a third party charger this may be why the device gets hot and not keeping a charge but i would do a restore of the phone and then fallow gdgmacguys advice and take phone to an apple store  also never use the phone when it is to hot this is a safty issue

  • Iphone 3g battery draining in 3 - 4 hours on a daily basis

I took it to the apple store and they replaced the phone, but I am still having problems. The next appointment in the store is about 5 days into the future.
This happened on Wed and I have an appointment for Mon but I am still having problems.
I have done several backup and restored.
The apple phone tech told me to do a restore, we held the power key and let Itunes automatically restore the phone. I then did not do a restore, just synced my stuff back, luckly I sync with google for contacts and calendar.
    what is going on?
Did I get a bad phone when they replaced it last week.
I have to travel this week and I cannot be without my phone.
It is weird, after many months of no issues, I upgraded to the new 3.1 software and I would pick up my phone and the screen was black and would not turn on. the Last time, I used a digital laser thermometer while on the phone with the apple tech and the phone was 105 degrees. It would not turn on. After about 20 minutes of charging it finally came on and the battery was at 10% with a red indicator on the battery.
It does charge up after a while, but it discharges pretty quickly, like 3-4 hours. I can watch the pct go down.
I have tried charging from 5 methods
    1. USB on a windows XP computer
    2. USB on a vista computer
    3. Docking station (Dual IPOD charger by Griffin)
    4. Apple supplied small AC Block with Apple cable.
    5. Car phone charger
No matter what, the phone still looses its charge and it gets hot. Sometimes it will work ok, but then when I go to pick up the phone, it won't turn on no matter what I do. I have to charge it for 10-20 minutes and then it comes back on.
I am concerned on 2 levels.
    1. It is becoming pretty unusable, since I never know if it will work when I pick it up.
    2. Long term effects since the battery is getting hot and constantly discharging faster than normal.
    Anyone have any Ideas?????
Is this a software problem that you are fixing?
can I put back on the old software before the 3.1 update?
Will this hurt the phone in the long run?

My iPhone also same problem in logic-board bottom part getting hot after connect battery connector (hardware issue) probably. Does anyone can help me to solved out this problem? Actually my iPhone4 was dropped in water for 15 minutes. Afterthat i took iPhone from water, i did turn off first and shake my phone. Later on open all parts one by one and cleaned up with alcohol. After finished dry (48 hours later) i tried to turn on logic board (motherboard bottom area) with battery. Its too hot in logic board and battery connector. What should I do in this condition?

  • Iphone 4s battery draining fast

I recently updated my iphone to software IOS 8, however my phone heats up very hot and the battery does not last more than 6 hours, even when fully charged beforehand. I have followed all of the guides online on how to reduce your battery usage, but they don't seem to work.

Had the same prob as everyone else.  18-month-old iPhone 4s had good battery life until IOS 6.1.3 update.  Started draining at 7% per hour in standby -- Siri off, location services off, etc.  Went to local Apple store last Friday.  Phone slicked and IOS restored.  Walked around the mall for 45 minutes, and battery drained 7% in that time with one email (text only) and one 1-minute phone call.  Returned to Apple store and got another appointment on the spot.  Replaced phone since I have Apple Care.  What I didn't know is that the replacement phone had IOS 6.1.2 on it (realized that when I got a prompt to install the update).  I haven't done the update and battery life is fine!  So, if you can get back to IOS 6.1.2......
