Hot Key with e-mail?
Hi,
This question probably has been mentioned before but I'm trying to enable a F1, 2, 3, etc hot key for my e-mail for accessing Facebook and other websites. I can't seem to locate help with this. How do I set this up? I would assume I go into the keyboard? Thanks

Yeah, this is quite common. I've seen up to three participants posting the same thing within a very short time interval. If chances are that what I'm going to say could also have been said by someone else, I've learned to avoid the redundancy by either reloading the page just before posting my reply, or reloading the forum page and looking whether the dot has become half-blue for that thread.
In some occasions, I've found that I spent too much time writing my reply and by the time I was going to post it, someone (usually Allan or Ernie :-)) had already replied saying essentially the same. In those cases, I either remove the redundant parts to just complement what the other participant said, or discard it entirely -- but I save it for later use if it contains "reusable" information.

Hot Keys Not Working With Yosemite
I recently updated to Yosemite from Snow Leopard and have been having some issues with my hot keys. I'm working in CS6 and have updated the latest version of Photoshop from the Adobe Manager.
The hot keys do work sometimes, but then they stop. Is anyone else have this issue, or is there an update in the works?
It's such a slower work process to have to go through the menus to find what I want, mainly Command Z.same issue- trying to find a solution...

Active Screen Corner Customization with added hot keys fails
Active Screen Corner Customization with added hot keys fails upon restart. So, if my lower left corner is set to activate the screen saver it works. If I add the command key to that operation it works unit I restart the machine than the hot key requirement vanishes, i.e. the screen saver works but not with the required hot key requirement. The system seems to forget all about the hot key association/requirement after restart. Dumping the file below did not change the situation.

After-market headphones with hot keys?
So the stock headphones come with the ability to pause music and skip to next track (among other things) via a built-in clicker. I wonder if this means there are other features that can be exposed via after-market headphones.
Since I listen to podcasts and audiobooks, I'd like to be able to quickly go back and forward within the track via a headphone "hot key". Most important is going back say 10 seconds if I miss something due do noises nearby. This is more important on iPhone than on iPod because the touch-interface for ff/rw on long podcast/audiobook tracks is not as good as using the old click-wheel.
I don't expect Apple will add these features to their stock headphones since they like to keep things simple, but if they exposed this capability via the headphone "API" (seems it might already be there), then other vendors could supply headphones with these sorts of hot keys for geeks like me.
Anyone know if these sorts of actions are exposed via headphone jack and if any vendors are planning to add headphones with such capabilities?Unfortunately htting the esc key does not solve it. Does the 3-button method only work for certain versions and/or platforms? As I mentioned, while holding them down while launching it only pops up the Scratch Disk Preferences.

Problems with hot keys in iTunes
Hot keys do not work at the Russian keyboard layout.
This problem appeared in a previous version of iTunes, and not fixed in new 7.6.0.29. Hot keys work only if change keyboard layout on English.

My machine is an iMac 24" Intel 3.06 Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.7 and Mail question, I think the 3.0.
In my Spanish system, the format has a menu option that says *Indentation->Increase (Command +])* and *Indentation->Decrease (Command + [)*, but does not perform its function well unless it is configured a U.S. keyboard If you have a Spanish keyboard, not working properly.
Can it be possible to be different menus for the languages English and Spanish? Can I edit the keymap to correct this behavior?

Error -17502 with MSG popup/custom fonts, DellTouch Hot Keys 2.10 is installed
I installed the Message popup with custom fonts in Teststand 3.0 and it worked. After I installed DellTouch Programmable Hot Keys 2.10 s/w get error -17502 when trying to edit the msg. Also I have another PC with XP,TS 3.0 and no Dell hot key s/w that get edit error

I think I answered another question for you on this same subject a little while ago. The link to that post can be found here. Is this the same problem that you are seeing? If so, were you able to debug the program and see what particular line is giving you the error?
Also, in your question above, I'd just like to confirm that you see the error whether or not you have DellTouch Programmable Hot Keys 2.10 installed.

I understand that after installing a Graphics card you can no longer adjust that screen brightness or turn off the WiFi with the function keys. I will try my best to help you with this.
For the WiFi, I suggest that you download and install the HP Wireless Button Driver, then follow the steps in this document for Airplane Mode (Windows 8) to make sure this has not been turned on.
For the screen brightness, follow the steps in this document for Resolving Problems with the Brightness of the Display and here is one for Fix : Stuck brightness controls / hotkeys not working in Windows 8 , 7 , Vista & XP for updating drivers. This should help with your brightness issue.

Wake up event by hot-key problem with H676MA-E45
Hi! I would like to use the wake up event by hot key function (Ctrl+Space) of BIOS, but it doesn't work for me. I have enabled it in BIOS, and if I enable that it would wake up on USB event it works, but this way my computer also wakes up for mouse movement and for every other keystroke. Please help.

The hot key (ctrl + alt + key) does not work. This is in Windows Vista.
Thank you Morbus and Cor-el, for your prompt replies. Here's what I did: I've placed the Firefox icon in the quick launch toolbar. So I right-click this firefox icon>Properties>Shortcut tab>in Shortcut Key field, add X (the word "None" changes to "ctrl + alt + X")>Apply>Okay>and that closes the dialog window.
Then, to try the new launch short-cut, I press and hold down, in order, ctrl, then alt, then x (holding all three down) . . . and nothing launches.
I thought this would do it! So any further thoughts would be a splendid help ---- many thanx! -
Trouble with hot keys and preferences
Some of my hot keys decided to be a bit moody and stop working. For example: Ctrl+Space to zoom or Space for the Hand Tool. I know my spacebar still works properly and also tried restarting my computer.
After searching the forums and FAQ I also tried:
Reset Tool and
Reset All Tools
Which didn't cure the problem. I also tried simultaneously hold down Shift+Option+Command keys when I launched PS CS5 but the only window I have pop up is the Scratch Disk Preference window...

Roblem with Hot Keys/On Screen Display
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to disable this #%$&#*# on screen display. Somehow or other the on screen internet/hot keys got locked and I can't get it to go away. It doesn't respond to anything and it is driving me crazy. I can't find anything in the user guide about how to do it. My computer is a P 205 series, if it matters.

Navigate to the registry folder:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey
In the folder you’ll see more folders, the three we care about are:
- 15 calls for the Assocation of mailto
- 16 calls for the Assocation of .cda
- 7 calls for the Assocation of http (opens the browser or program associated with http)
- 17 calls for a ShellExecute of ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
- 18 calls for the Assocation of calc.exe
These are the mail, CD, Internet, Print, Calculator buttons respectively.
If you want to change them, simply modify the values inside each folder. Association will open the program that is tied to the protocol or file type. ShellExecute on the other hand is the same as typing something into Run and pressing enter.
An example: Let’s say you want the mail button to open Notepad: Go into the folder named 15, rename “Association” to “ShellExecute”, double click ShellExecute to modify the key’s data and enter “notepad.exe”, replacing “mailto.”
Want to disable a button? Just clear out the ShellExecute or Association data. For the mail button you would double click the Association and replace “mailto” with nothing. -
Using hot keys to speed typing
How can one send "hot key" information to any application (web page, text document, spreadsheet, etc)? For example, say I want to type my e-mail address into a web page or any document by pressing a pre-assigned key combo like "CTRL-e". Maybe type my street address by pressing "CTRL-s" etc.
When you add an item in the text substitution preferences, it will replace the text in the Replace column with the text from the With column. So, looking at the defaults, if you were to type in "(c)" and then hit space, return, or something similar, the "(c)" will be replaced with ©. At one point I experimented with typing "aplsig" at the end of every message here to have a signature inserted. (But I often forgot and then the moderators got on me because the link in my sig went to my personal site where there was a prominent link to my web design site, which could be considered advertising, so I don't do that any more.)
Note, however, that you must enable text substitution in individual apps, and AFAIK it's always off by default. For assistance with that, see:

If the other suggestions don't work for your situation, I have something else you might try:
I'm not sure if using keyPressed with e.getKeyCode() is returning what you expect (the integer typed) to do your calculation to set the selected index on the list.
Maybe try keyTyped with e.getKeyChar() and then if you can get that as a string, doing a parseInt on it to get an integer to do your calculation (which should be a simple -1) and then set your list index.
1) So, say keyTyped e.getKeyChar() returns the char '1' that you store as a variable char charKeyTyped
2)Then you use String's valueOf(charKeyTyped) and you store it as a variable String stringKeyTyped
3)Then use Integer.parseInt(stringKeyTyped) catching the exception that may occur if it isn't an integer
4)Now take step 3's result and do your calculation and subtracting 1 to get your selected index.
Hope that english explanation makes sense as I wasn't up to writing actual code.
