Hot Keys Sleep Command

Greetings all,
I have recently updated to Mac OS X 10.49, everything works fine except the hot key command, (Opt & Apple & Eject) for sending the Mac to Sleep does not now work.
If some one has a solution for this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You now have to hold the Eject key down for a moment or two. This was changed presumably to avoid the effect of accidentally hitting Eject when you meant the Delete key or another.

  • Hot key or hot corner to put my monitors to sleep

Is there a way I can assign an entourage hot-corner or a hot key to put my monitors to sleep?
I'd love to be able to shut them down with a click, when I walk away.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi marglar,
I'm not sure if you can create a shortcut to put your display to sleep.
You can use this keyboard shortcut to put your mac to sleep: Option-Command-Eject.
    Other shortcuts are here:

  • Does any one know the hot key / command to hard delete from an external Drive

Does any one know the hot key / command to hard delete from an external Drive (i.e. delete direct without having to put in trash first)?

Nothing happens on a hard drive that doesn't involve the computer.
Here's a list of all the keyboard shortcuts. I don't see anything such as you have described, so perhaps you once used a keyboard macro or have not described what you mean properly.

  • Yoga - Thinkpad message receiver for shortcut hot keys and 30 % CPU usage after lock screen or sleep

Hi! After returning from sleep or lock screen a process called "Thinkpad message receiver for shortcut hot keys" starts using about 30% of the CPU. Temps go upo to 60-70 degrees battery is being depleted quite fast. This process doesn't stop until I end it using task manager. Once ended that way, it doesn't start again even if I use sleep or lock screen. Need help with this!
I didn't use to have this problem like a month ago or so. Probably came into existence after some updates.
    Solved!

I am using Kaspersky Internet Secuirty 2015, when I resume my TPY from sleep, the message receiver for shortcut hot keys will show up and use 20-35% processing power which cause the laptop to heat up.
I hope a Thinkpad rep can come in to report the bug.

  • How do I turn off hot key commands for the application menu/main nav?

(I am using Photoshop CC on windows 7 64bit)
I continue to have this problem which in many ways slows down my workflow. It is a bit difficult to explain so bare with me here.
When I am working through the different functions and tools like switching from the polygonal lasso tool to duplicating a layer and then nudging the image with the directional keys the application menu/main nav is selected instead of the designated hot key and I need to hit esc twice to exit the main nav selection and go back to the tool I was using... “I did say this would be hard to explain”.
Let me paint a specific scenario that causes this to happen:
I want to create a mirror reflection for a product. I first duplicate the product image, then I flip it vertically and drag it to the bottom of the base image. Then I hit the directional up button to nudge it into place but this doesn’t work because by hitting the directional button ‘File’ from the main nav is selected. In order to return to the ‘move tool’ I need to hit esc twice or hit the mouse button once. This may not sound like a big deal and it’s not but do this 500 times a day for a week with the ‘polygonal lasso tool or PLT’ and tell me it’s not a big deal after that. When using the ‘PLT’ you have no option but to hit the esc button twice because if you click the mouse button you place an anchor for the PLT and chance loosing anything you have already preselected with the PLT.
Anyway, moral of the story is... I have a mouse which is more than proficient in selecting File, Edit, Image, Type and any other main nav query. I would love the hot keys to select just the tools and simply leave the main nav out of it... when I first purchased CS5 this function was not apparent. It was only after an update or maybe I blindly changed a preference and poof... every second hot key I push I select something from the main nav which is a completely pointless and annoying function for me which I have never used and never ever will.
Please Adobe tech masters, help me! I will be forever in your debt.
    Cheers,
    Tony

Not a problem in the Adobe software. Something is wrong with your input devices or you have something on your system that instates global, system-wide shortcuts that may conflict with application specific ones. You need to figure out what it is.

  • Enabling Hot Keys during Order Processing

Is there a way that Hot Keys can be created and assigned so that during order processing a user can "jump" from screen to screen?
For example, if the user was on the Item Text Tab and wanted to go to the Additional Data B Tab, is there a way to enable a Hot Key/Command to allow this in a single step?
I know it's possible to scroll through the screen layout to get to Additional Data B or use the menu path.  However, this request is specifically regarding enabling functionality to move to specific screens through a single command.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The following Keys can  used for the navigation
    F3 --> Back
    Shift + F3 --> Ecit
    F12--> Cancel
    CTRL + / --> Comand field
CTRL + F1--> Display to change
    CTRL+ F4 --> Change to Display
Also ALT key can be used for fast navigation. The first alpabet of the every word on the top of the screen is highlighted by _ so use the ALT + character to go to that screen

  • Hot Keys Not Working With Yosemite

I recently updated to Yosemite from Snow Leopard and have been having some issues with my hot keys. I'm working in CS6 and have updated the latest version of Photoshop from the Adobe Manager.
The hot keys do work sometimes, but then they stop. Is anyone else have this issue, or is there an update in the works?
It's such a slower work process to have to go through the menus to find what I want, mainly Command Z.

same issue- trying to find a solution...

  • Trouble with hot keys and preferences

Some of my hot keys decided to be a bit moody and stop working. For example: Ctrl+Space to zoom or Space for the Hand Tool. I know my spacebar still works properly and also tried restarting my computer.
After searching the forums and FAQ I also tried:
    Reset Tool and
    Reset All Tools
Which didn't cure the problem. I also tried simultaneously hold down Shift+Option+Command keys when I launched PS CS5 but the only window I have pop up is the Scratch Disk Preference window...
Any suggestions or ideas what may be the issue here? Thanks you in advanced!

Unfortunately htting the esc key does not solve it. Does the 3-button method only work for certain versions and/or platforms? As I mentioned, while holding them down while launching it only pops up the Scratch Disk Preferences.

  • Active Screen Corner Customization with added hot keys fails

Active Screen Corner Customization with added hot keys fails upon restart. So, if my lower left corner is set to activate the screen saver it works. If I add the command key to that operation it works unit I restart the machine than the hot key requirement vanishes, i.e. the screen saver works but not with the required hot key requirement. The system seems to forget all about the hot key association/requirement after restart. Dumping the file below did not change the situation.
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist

You might want to try deleting the screen saver preference/plist - look in your home directory:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist

  • Hot Key to Shut Down

I used the quick shut down by pressing
Control+Option+Command + Eject (Disc) to shut down my MacBook Air 13" and old MacBook Pro 15" (both in Core 2 Duo CPU)
Now,, I have a new MacBook Pro Retina 15".   There is no Eject key.  Is there any other way for Hot Key to Shut Down?   I mean real Hot Key.   I do not want more than one press!

Easiest way I found to shut down a mac is to press the power button, which brings up the shutdown, restart dialog window, and then hit the enter key as shutdown is pre-selected. No need for the multiple keypress.

In my Spanish system, the format has a menu option that says *Indentation->Increase (Command +])* and *Indentation->Decrease (Command + [)*, but does not perform its function well unless it is configured a U.S. keyboard If you have a Spanish keyboard, not working properly.
Can it be possible to be different menus for the languages English and Spanish? Can I edit the keymap to correct this behavior?

  • How about Hot Keys for the Wireless Keyboard?

    Hello all.
Been using the iPad 2 for about 2 weeks since I got it.  Had to "ditch" the iPad Keyboard Dock and use a regular Apple Wireless Keyboard.  The good thing is now using the TwelveSouth iPad Stand, I can orientate the iPad to any of the two positions I want.
But I miss the special hot keys on Keyboard Dock, namely the Home and Lock keys.  Kind of inconvenient pushing the Home button on the iPad 2, especially having to double-press for multitasking.
If only the iPad's iOS allows some sort of configuration for hot keys on the wireless keyboard.  I do notice that the F5 and F6 are empty.
    Cheers

I would only hope that the keyboard would turn off, not just when it isn't pairing with the computer, but for the keyboard that is paired (mine is) it would be best if it turned off after a period of no use. Here is what one man, not an Apple tech, said about the A1314 keyboard he was selling on ebay:
"The keyboard automatically powers down when you're not using it and turns on instantly as soon as you start typing. This intelligent power management means you'll get up to nine months of battery life based on average usage patterns. It also has an on/off switch for when you're away from your computer for a long time."
This doesn't indicate how many minutes of no use it needs before it 'powers down' (doesn't sound as good as really being turned off) and it also doesn't address the issue of knowing if your keyboard is on or off via the power button.
Even my dog electric training collar blinks twice when it is turned on and blinks three times when it is turned off. The Apple keyboard needs two indicator lights, one to tell you if it is searching for pairing and the other strictly as an on off indicator. I'm not going to loose any sleep over this, but it does seem like somebody was sleeping in the design department as this keyboard is really cool, but it doesn't convey the basic on/off information to the user.

  • Customizing Terminal.app hot-keys?

    Hey all,
Does anyone know a way to re-assign hotkeys within Terminal.app?
Since Leopard's Terminal supports tabs, I use Command-Shift-\[ and Command-Shift-\] hotkeys extensively to switch between tabs, and almost never use Command-Left and Command-Right hot-keys (which switches between Terminal windows).
I've been taking measures against RSI/TCS, and have noticed that the Command-Arrow combination is much easier on my hands.
    Cheers!

  • Using 10.5.8 to create use-defined hot keys

I re-use phrases, quite often, and would LOVE to copy and paste them to a hot-key combination like COMMAND -X or CONTROL-M, etc.
How can I define what special key-combinations will do?

    Try one of the following:
    Typinator
    TypeIt4Me
    TextExpander
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Connect to wifi without hot keys

Is there a way to set up my Satellite L755-S5153 so that I don't have to use the F8 hot keys to connect?   Is their an automatic setting?

allarea2, we've changed the keys. Whatever key turned it off for you will be the same that turns it on. Look on the F keys for the one with a picture of a little antenna.
Besides moving them around, there was one other change. Previously, as mentioned here, it was FN+F8. If you just want to use F8, you press F8. If you want to toggle the wi-fi, you press FN+F8. We've swapped the FN key usage by defaults now. In other words, just F8 to use the "special" command and FN+F8 if you want to send an actual F8. I hope that wasn't too confusing.
Here's the way to be safe. Find the key with the antenna picture. Press it. If it doesn't work, hold FN and press it.
