  • MSI GE40 2OC - Webcam problem

    Hello.
I have recently bought a MSI GE40 2OC laptop and i must say its absolutely beautiful light and fast as lightning.I will be moving to UK now because im starting University and i wanted to make sure Skype was properly working. On that process it detected that i DIDNT have a webcam plugged into my system. Its not in the device manager tab either so i am guessing the webcam is internally disconnected.I am very frustrated and hoping that someone can give me a solution.
    Thanks in advance

I just got this model too, and love it.  Good point though, I haven't tried the webcam.  I currently don't have software like Skype that utalizes it, but I have a feeling it's also missing on my computer.  Normally the webcam is listed under my computer (on mine it's not), and also it shoudl be listed under device manager (also on mine it's not).
I also don't see the drivers listed on the drivers page: [not allowed to post external links] makes me wonder if the drivers are even available for it.

  • MSI GE40-2OC Bios Compatiable with MS-1492 Barebones?

    Hello,
I'm in the need of some help from the MSI team. I've recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and have been experiencing BSOD's when using the laptops Bluetooth/WiFi. I tried formatting and doing a fresh install ensuring all the drivers were up to date however this was of no help.
I came across a few posts on forums that suggested this is a BIOS/Firmware problem and an update would fix it. Upon checking my BIOS/Firmware it seems they are infact very old (BIOS Version: E1492IG6.10H EC: 1.504), however when trying to contact the retailer they said they had no newer updates available.
Can I flash the non-barebones BIOS/Firmware found on the MSI Support page on my barebones system and if not can anyone direct me to the latest versions of both for my barebones system?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I contacted MSI as you suggested and they said they cannot provide barebones BIOS/EC's and only provide official MSI ones.
With both my retailer and MSI not being able to help I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do
Yeah, it's a really crappy situation. I'd put pressure on the retailer....that's your best bet at this point.

  • MSI GE40 2OC Dragon Eyes - GTX 760M screen too white

So I bought this laptop today and I noticed that the screen was really white, so I tried calibrating the color and that didn't help, and then I tried using the intel graphics control panel that didn't work either.
I was wondering if there was a way to solve this problem because watching movies on this laptop is painful.
    thanks

I can't really take a photo, but I can try to explain it.
The quality of the screen is washed out (white) It doesn't have that rich tone normal computers have. Usually contrasting the screen helps but for some reason no matter how much I play with it, it doesn't solve this problem.
The thing is I read this review for this laptop online and they said "screen looks washed out unless you push it back a fair amount" which shows that there might be a way to fix it.
    I hope this description helps
    thanks in advance

↑ And not to forget it fit MAC as well.
↑ A sexy dragon printed on it, just love how they design the mouse mat!
↑ It’s easier to carry around, by putting it between the keyboard and the screen. Don’t worry, the thickness will definitely not an issue.
↑ A list of the drivers, instruction book, a set of collectable MSI dog tags and so-on.
↑ The Siberia V2 from SteelSeries
↑ The difference between Siberia MSI Limited Edition and a normal Siberia you seen in the market are the MSI Limited Edition comes with a nice and bright red surface done, and many cool logos on it.
Let’s talk about performance and benchmark:
A bunch of performance test on CPU-Z:
↑ From CPU-Z we can tell that GT72 Dominator Pro using a Intek Core i7-4710HQ 2.50GHz with four cores.
↑ GT72 using their own motherboard, which from MSI.
↑ The only different between a MYR9,999 and a MYR11,999 GT72 Dominator Pro is the capacity of the RAM: 16GB and 32GB.
↑ It getting 604 in CPUmark.
↑ GT72 equips with Super RAID 3 512GB SSD, which provide a 5 seconds start up time(From button to desktop). Average getting a 1,586 MB/s READING speed, and 1,325 MB/s WRITING speed on ATTO Disk Bench Mark.
↑ And the HDD getting an average 133 MB/s READING speed and an average 131 MB/s WRITING speed.
↑ Tested it with another software, and got a result of 1422 MB/s READING speed and 1081 MB/s WRITING speed on SSD, isn't that much differences from the test above.
    ↑ A 125 MB/s READING speed and 105 MB/s WRITING speed on HDD.
    ↑ Take a look on GTX980MB
Benchmark by using 3DMark Professional Edition:
    3D Mark 11 Advanced Edition:
    ↑ On ENTRY level
    ↑ On PERFORMANCE level
    ↑ On XTREAME level
Besides on gaming performance, it's very important to make sure it support casual works as well.
↑ On PCmark 8 HOME for some common home computing test: 4653
↑ On PCmark 8 CREATIVE for experts and proffesionals: 5445
↑ On PCmark 8 WORK for some simple office productivity test: 4401
↑ On PCmark 8 STORAGE to test SSD & HDD: 5017, and getting a average 330 MB/s Storage bandwidth.
At last, we'll be doing CPU heat test:
↑ Before we run the test, the cores temperature is around 40 degrees, and 33 degrees on hard disk.
↑ After we had run for a 30 minutes maxed performance test, with full fans on, we're getting 75 - 80 degrees on CPU cores and unbelievable still 33 degrees on hard disk.
To be honest, after tried on GT72 Dominator PRO, I just can't live without it anymore.
The BattleField 4 running smoothly with photoshop on background, I can finally play some video games while taking a break on my photo editing and graphic design works, in the coffee shop of course.
Although it looks pretty heavy, but it's actually much portable than I thought, in facts it's phenomenal thin for such a powerful performance beast.
Carry around with the backpack it provided isn't a difficult task at all.
Besides, one last thing to show:
↑ Sexiest design that let the heats never became an issue anymore.

yeah.... with so much different angle and good quality, they are truly good photo shooting pieces!

High end games will run seriously hot around 82-90 degree C but its quite a surprise you can run high settings on crysis 3

    link: http://www.kitguru.net/laptops/zardon/msi-gt70-2oc-gaming-notebook/24/

Here's what I would personally do....
    Install the SSD.
    Remove the HDD.
Install using the Restore disks, doing a full install.
When it's done, go into Windows and using the Computer Management tool (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management, then go to the "Disk Management" link) and remove the restore partition and leave it as empty, unpartitioned space.
Re-install the HDD into the second bay.
Ensure that the computer is booting from the SSD and not the HDD.
Copy over whatever files you might have on the HDD, and remove all partitions from it, and format it as one large drive.
That should complete what I would do, if it were me.
The reason for leaving the space unpartitioned on the SSD is it essentially gives you more TRIM space, allowing the drive to work more efficiently over a long period of time (ie over years) without 'slowing down' at all. This can happen if you fully partition the SSD and nearly fill the drive. By leaving extra, unparitioned space there, you give it more room to work and make the drive be able to operate more quickly in the long run.

  • Systematic keyboard settings reset on the laptop GE40 2OC 036

    Good day to all!
I have bought laptop GE40 2OC (Dragon Eyes) in January 2014. I managed to get a configuration with Super RAID (128 +128 Stripe) and HDD WD750 GB. Notebook is very productive, as I wanted.
The problem is: in Win8, which stood on the laptop as default OS, keyboard configuration (settings) namely the "delay before repeat" didn’t save. I used to work with a minimum of delay, and it in a while (indefinitely, different each time) returned to the standard default value. The most amazing thing in the keyboard settings (Control Panel -> Keyboard) slider has always remained in the position where I left it (far right).
I first thought that Kaspersky, which was pre-installed, was the reason, then thought about keyboard driver, it can be a long list ...
A few days ago I realized the reason - the keyboard settings are reset to default, if you press any combination of fn + F(x), or fn + cursor (change of volume/brightness). I.e.you wanted a brighter screen - pressed fn + UP, and settings returned (delay before repeating) back to the default value.
I decided to see how different keyboards will behave in the BIOS. The result surprised me.
    1) The native keyboard - if you just hold the DOWN arrow, then in half a second cursor starts to "run". Speed is really slow, namely repeat rate (not delay).
2 ) Logitech K230 - delay before repeat rate is the same as in the case 1, but the repeat rate is faster - about in one and a half times.
    3) The native keyboard after pressing any combination fn + func. key  - The speed of the delay before repeat is the same as in the case of 1 and 2, but the speed of the repeat ... just mad (!) . I.e. actually in two times faster keyboard sends repeats.
So it is NOT SOFTWARE problem. It is something wrong in HARDWARE.
Question - Does anyone faced with the same trouble? If so - how to treat it? I do not want to go to service center, because not sure that they will be able to fix something.
P.S. to avoid unnecessary questions about my diagnostics:
    1) first I deleted the keyboard driver from the device manager – it did not help, settings were abandoned at some points (I did not yet know the reason) still "lost".
    2) Removing Antivirus (it had input filter module to protect password fields at websites) did not help .
    3) Then I thought about Logitech mouse and keyboard (Unifying) - but they all work fine! I.e. delay of wireless keyboard K230 is always the same, but the native notebook keyboard returned to default over time. By the way – is it a feature, that native notebook keyboard does not wake laptop from sleep ? WHY?
    4) In a moment of deep frustration I decided, and updated to Windows 8.1 (but I did not want to, thinking that it will help – and it did not).
    5) Yesterday I updated the BIOS from version E1492IMS.30H to version E1492IMS.30N - really hoping for success, but other than nonworking Wi-Fi I have not received any "advantages ". About Wi-Fi it is another story..
    6) Finally, I thought that new firmware can fix something, and in addition updated firmware from 5.06 to 5.07. That solved only the problem with Wi-Fi, by the way, not keyboard EC reset was done.
    7) the reason for the problem I found accidentally, because I had a suggestion that turning off the camera (fn + F6) was somehow connected with keyboard. It should be noted that the on/off of the webcam also does not save its settings (white balance, saturation, etc. return to default). But this I do not care much.
Please help, because I believe that I am not the only one who have this trouble and certainly in other MSI laptop models such bugs can be too.

Quote from: darkhawk on 07-February-14, 02:08:01
    Nope, that's fine.
The MSI rep I forwarded this to said that he has forwarded on-ward as he did not have a GE40 for testing at the time.
He did also agree and seem to think there is a problem with the EC that would cause this issue.
I expect he may post here once a fix has been found.
    Thanks!
I'll wait. I think it is clear that the problem goes away when I restart laptop, and also after changing and accepting settings in Control Panel -> Keyboard. But next fn + func. key will again cause default settings

  • Msi ge40 internal layout !!

    Alright this is it
The reason why MSI GE40 uses a 4702MQ Low voltage CPU is because of the cooling , it uses thin cheap copper heatsink and a heatspreader fan which is good enough for the cpu and gpu
If you upgrade the CPU to a 45w and higher you will experience high hot grill temperature
It seems that the ODD is there with the mSATA x 2 but the problem is if you buy the ODD model and you want to install mSATA SSDs will be a pain because the cover would not be block or something since the ODD is remove with the ODD case cover

There is a new incarnation of the MSI GE 40 laptop, with new CPUs (mine is 4712M), GPU (mine: 850M w/2GB DDR5), drive configuration (I bought with 1TB Hitachi 7200 RPM) and memory (mine came with 1*8GB DDR3 1600).
    Quote from: BlueAlexFPS;45298
You need to buy the 2 SSD RAID version in the begining, not able to upgrade by users.
Right, if you do not buy such a thing, you do not get the nifty SATA-to-2*mSATA adapter by MSI.
    Quote from: BlueAlexFPS;45298
And if you buy the 2 SSD RAID as Super RAID version, you will not have ODD with it. Because GE40 need to use the ODD space to install 2 mSATA SSDs to replace the plat.
Kind of.. but no. The new version does not have the ODD even as an option, so you get nothing there (unless you find something aftermarket, but why would you buy such a laptop in the first place if you need an ODD).
Fortunatelly the laptop comes with ODD bay filled with a 2.5" SATA caddy, which can be used for another drive.
I thought the SATA-to-mSATA adapter was a part of the laptop, so I bought mSATA drive. Oh, poor me, how little I knew. Now I ordered a SATA to mSATA 9.5mm high adapter (roughly $30 where I live), so I could install the mSATA drive. The ODD bay can be open ONLY after you open the bottom cover, which voids warranty.
Same goes for HDD/SSD and memory upgrade. MSI, seriously?
The issue here is that if you want an SSD you like (not some random 120GB or so device the manufacturer gets in for you), you have to pay for both, and have the reseller swap them for you (so the warranty...). My etailer insisted on replacing the HDD with an SSD, and using the HDD as external drive. , no.

  • Fresh install for Windows 8.1 Pro on GE40 2OC?

    Hi there,
I had just purchased the GE40 2OC notebook.  At the same time, I had also purchased the Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade separately.  I would like to have a clean install on my system.
My concern would be how to set up the 2 x 64GB SSD HDD under Super RAID, on top of the 750GB HDD.
Will it be automatic under the Windows 8.1 install?  Or are there specific steps to do so?
    Thanks,
    Chester

The raid array is already set up, you will just see it as a single destination drive and possibly need to load raid drivers during install.
