Hot syncing centro with two computers

My palm centro was syncing with Outlook fine with both my home and work computers.  When it stopped syncing at home, I used the disc that came with it and used the repair function and all was fixed.  At work, it appears that everything is fine when it syncs but no data transfers.  When I tried using the disc at work to use the same repair function, the menu does not appear.  The only thing I can get it to do is reinstall the program which doesn't fix it.  On top of that, the palm software seems to be interfering with the functioning of Outlook but only on the work computer.  Can you help?

Depending on the version of Palm desktop, there are files in different locations in Palm desktop 6.2 as opposed to Palm desktop 4.x.x versions. Look in all locations listed in the uninstall instructions.
Here are the clean uninstall instructions for XP.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop. You will find the username folder in this location.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
from your PC Operating System registry.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
Next reboot your computer
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync.

  • Syncing iPhone with Two Computers: Mac and PC

    I have a Macbook running 10.7.1 at home and a PC at work running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.  I sync my iPhone (music, photos, contacts, calendars, photos) with my Macbook at home. I have set up MobileMe syncing on my MacBook and iPhone.
    If I install iTunes on my work PC, set up MobileMe syncing with Outlook, etc., can I then connect my iPhone to my work PC without problems?  Or, upon syncing my iPhone with my work PC, will everything be erased?
    I am trying to sync calendars and contacts through MobileMe to my iPhone while continuing to sync all of my music, apps, etc. to my Macbook at home.
    Thanks

    Let me try to explain.  I want my sync my work calendar and contacts from my work PC to my iPhone while maintaining everything else (music, apps, pictures, etc.) on my MacBook.
    Can I sync my work PC Outlook calendar and contacts through the air using MobileMe and connect my iPhone only to my MacBook?
    Thanks.

  • How Do I Sync Reminders with Two Computers ?

    I have an assistant that helps me managment my iCal. I want to start to use reminders on the right hand pane of iCal. Is there a way for me and her to be able to add / remove things on my Reminders list that she can edit on her iMac and edit also on my macbook pro.
    Thanks in Advance.

    You can sync the MBP to Google calendar (Google accounts are free). In iCal Preferences, click 'Accounts' then set Account Type to Google and enter your Google email address and password.
    You will need to move your 'On My Mac' calendar(s) to Google. This method should work (though you might also want to check Google's Help):
    1. Select your 'On My Mac' calendar. From the File menu choose 'Export...' then 'Export...'; from the sub-menu. This will create an .ics file at the location chosen in the Export dialog.
    2. From the File menu choose 'New Calendar' then your Google login name in the sub menu.
    3. A new calendar called 'Untitled' will appear in your sidebar under your Google login name. Change its name to that of the calendar you exported.
    4. From the File menu choose 'Import...' then 'Import...' from the sub-menu. A navigation pane will open: navigate to and choose your exported .ics file.
    5. iCal will ask you where to import this to. Click the drop-down menu and select the Google version of your calendar (make sure not to choose the 'On My Mac' version). Import.
    6. Your calendar contents will appear in the Google version of the calendar but this may take some time. You need to leave iCal running until the rotating icon at the top of the sidebar disappears.
    7. You can now delete the 'On My Mac' version of the calendar (control-click it in the sidebar list and choose 'Delete').
    Note that Google will not sync ToDos.
    However you will only be able to sync the PowerBook G4 if it is running at least 10.5.8.

  • How to sync with two computers not at the same time, I'm registerd with one computer

    How to sync with two computers (not at the same time), I'm registered with one computer and am trying to connect with second computer with same iPhone. To sync the first time with the second PC "Firefox Sync Option tells me Create New account or Connect, when I connect it gives me a Passcode and on iPhone it also gives me a Passcode, than how do I connect? Both the iPhone and PC gives me a Passcode and have now idea what to do with them.
    Where do I find my Sync Key ? so I can install manually if it works ?

    Use the Sync Key ''(Recovery Key)'' from the PC that you used to initially setup your Firefox Sync service, when setting up that 2nd PC with Sync. You need to use '''Add a device''' to setup the 2nd and subsequent devices on a Sync account. <br />

  • I got a new computer and now iTunes is telling me it can't sync with two computers

    I got a new computer and now iTunes is telling me it can't sync with two computers, it's telling me it will erase what's on my iPad and re-sync. Will I lose my iPad data that's on it?

    No - not at all. Look at that one app that I gave you the link for. That is supposed to transfer all of the iPad content to the new computer. I have no idea how much it costs, but it's worth a look. There are other out there as well. Google "apps to transfer iPad content to computer" or something to that effect. These apps claim to transfer everything.
    Several things to remember - you can still transfer all of the iTunesicon tent that you purchased by using the Transfer Purchases option in iTunes. Just remember to turn off auto syncing before you do it. You will also have to authorize your new computer to transfer the purchase if you haven't done so already. From the iTunes menu on your computer go to Store> Authorize this computer.
    Plus any apps or music that you have bought can be downloaded again at no charge with the cloud feature in the latest iPad iOS.
    EDIT - I see that you did transfer the purchases. Look at one of those apps that I described and they should be able to get you set up. You should also invest in an external hardrive for backing up all of your computer content ... don't want this to happen again!

    You cannot transfer from the iPhone to the computer.
    You must move the contents of your old computer to the new one directly.
    Use an external hard drive perhaps or restore your old computer backup to your new computer.
    The iPhone is not the source of your data, that is the computer, the iPhone is only a slave device to iTunes.

  • Sync nano to two computers?

    If I have duplicate my iTunes files and folders on two computers can I sync a nano with both computers?
    The reason I ask is that my PowerBook that I usually sync with does not have USB2 and I can get a USB2 PCI card for my PowerMac. I was hoping that I could do the inital sync on the PowerMac and do subsequent syncs on the PBook.
    Thanks in advance.

    You need to put your Ipod into manual mode to sync it with multiple machines. To do this you need to connect it to the original computer click on "Display Ipod options" or edit>preferences>ipod>select manual sync. Between two computers there is no way to auto sync but hopefully manuel will work for you.

  • Synching I touch with two computers

    I would like to know if it is possible to synch an itouch with two computers, without losing the music that is on the itouch. FYI: First computeris no longer operational due to a virus...
    Thanks

    You can sync with only one computer.  However, you can manage music with multiple computers.  See:

  • Synch iPad with two Computers?

    I have the iPad 3 Wi Fi genertion. Can this iPad be Synch to two Different computers. One computer has windows vista home premium and the other has windows XP Pro. If so, how is it accomplished? Thank you.

    The key word in your question is the word "sync". The answer to your question is - No- you cannot sync to two different computers. Syncing with iTunes will transfer content from that iTunes library to the iPad. If you sync with another computer, iTunes will overwrite the iPad contents from the first iTunes library with the content from the second iTunes library.
    You can use multiple computers for the purpose of putting music onto the iPad, but you cannot sync with two computers. You can read about that process here.

  • Syncing podcasts on two computers

    Is there anyway to sync podcasts on two computers without download them twice? I have an iMac, a Macbook, and an iPhone. I'd like to be able to download recent podcasts to either computer and have them show up on both computers so I don't have to worry about which computer I sync my iPhone with. I have 'Home Sharing' turned on, but it doesn't seem to help.
    Sorry for the convoluted question. I hope it makes sense.

    If they are purchased songs and both computers are the same i.e. both Mac or both PC, then you should be able to hook up the iPod to one, turn off auto sync and manually manage music. Add the purchased songs to the iPod and next time you hook the iPod up to the first computer it will ask if you want to transfer purchased music not on that computer. Do that, then you can turn auto sync back on without losing everything.
    Another way to go is to make a CD/DVD back up of your purchases and then use that to transfer everything to one computer. You might want to do this anyway so there is less a chance of losing all your purchases.

  • Problem syncing Mail between two computers

    I know this is a well worn topic and I've read the posts on syncing mail between two computers. Overall, I've gotten it to work pretty well. Whenever I move from one computer to another, I copy my ~/Library/Mail folder to my thumbdrive and sync it w/ the same folder on my other computer before I fire up Mail on it.
    But here's the problem: I rebuilt the "sent" mailbox on one of my computers (let's call it computer A). This apparently gives new message numbers to the messages. Things worked great on computer A after that.
    Then I synced the mailbox with my other computer, computer B. On computer B, the change in mailbox numbers apparently was not recognized. Every message in the "sent" folder gave me the message that I needed to go online and download the message. So I rebuilt the "sent" mailbox on computer B. Things then worked great.
    Then I synced back with computer A and the same thing happened. Every message in the sent folder gave me the "download from server message."
    It seems that I'm in some sort of infinite loop. The rebuild on one computer is not recognized by the other computer. Clearly, there is some file somewhere that contains info that's not being conveyed when I sync the ~/Library/Mail folder.
    Any suggestions??

    That is interesting. To that effect I have thrown together this Applescript:
    (CAUTION... do not run this script, experimental only!
    set flashDrive to "FLASH"
    tell application "System Events" to exists process "Mail.app"
    if the result is true then tell application "Mail" to quit
    -- copy files to mounted disk
    do shell script "rm -r /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail/"
    do shell script "cp -r ~/Library/Mail /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/"
    do shell script "cp ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail/"
    --copy files to userfolder
    do shell script "rm -r ~/Library/Mail"
    do shell script "cp -r /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail ~/Library/"
    do shell script "cp /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail/com.apple.mail.plist ~/Library/Preferences/"
    Problem is, I don't know how to tell the script which version of mail data is older or newer. If you know of such a way let me know and I'll script it in, otherwise the user is stuck with manually choosing what to copy to where.
    And as we all know, any user choices are error-prone.

  • Using PalmVx with two computers

    I have been using a PalmVx with my Desktop computer (WIN XP Prof) and also with my laptop (WIN XP Prof). I recently formatted the HDD of my laptop and have re-installed my palmOne software ver 4.1.4 on my laptop. While installing the palmOne software in my laptop when asked for <User Name> I gave the same Username as in my desktop computer. So now my laptop indicates the identical Username as my desktop computer.
    My desktop computer is connected to the palm cradle using a serial connection while my laptop is connected through a Serial-to-USB adaptor to a USB port on my laptop.
    I need to have all my data in my PalmVx transferred to my laptop, so I set all the conduits in my laptop to "Handheld overwrites Desktop" and carried out a Hotsync.
    The Hotsync dialog that comes up on the laptop shows a UserName <blank> instead of the Username that I set (similar to the desktop).
    Please advise how I can get all my data currently on my desktop and in my handheld into my laptop?
    TIA

    Actually, there are several articles on the web about the fact that you CAN
    synch the itunes with two computers. Music, Video, and Ringtones can be done from one computer, and Mail, Contacts, etc. can be done from a second computer.
    Just do a Yahoo search on "synching iPhone with two computers."
    If you are trying to do music from two computers, you are right, that will not work. There is a program, which I think the Yahoo search above will also uncover that allows you to do a "swap," where you can have the songs from one computer show up on the iPhone, and when you swap, the songs from the other computer show up. I am not sure if this utility survived the upgrage to version 2.0 of the softweare.

  • Using iPhone with two computers

    Home PC - MacBook Pro
    Work PC - Windows
    both running iTunes 7.7
    My music is on my home Mac and I manually create playlists, add music etc.
    With my 3G Nano, I can connect and listen to songs on my iPod from my work PC. I can't seem to do this with my iPhone - my PC sees the iPhone but all of the music is greyed out and cannot be selected.
    Is it a limitation of the iPhone that I cannot use it with two computers in this way, or is it a configuration issue?
    I would prefer not to have to buy a set of external speakers just to use my iPhone to play music at work.
    thanks
