Hot-syncing / Verizon Centro

I have been unable to hot-sync my Verizon Centro with my desktop computer for over 2 weeks. It will connect and start up normally, but then it gets hung up while doing the 2nd part of the datebook synchronization. After some time I have to cancel the operation. I have a third party application called Datebook Plus, which I have used for a long time with no problem. We also recently installed a McAfee Security suite on this computer. I even installed the Palm Desktop on my laptop computer and attempted to hot-sync the Centro with that, but it got hung up the same way. Help!

This question was solved.
View Solution.

Sounds like some database corruption on the Centro.
I'd suggest the oft-recommended fix here by using DBFixit from pimlicosoftware.com
It will search and correct many of the errors on your Palm device, but may require purchase to fix all of them.
The "sledgehammer" approach would be to Hard Reset the device (which will erase it), and rename your /Backup folder on your computer before doing your first Hotsync to the newly-erased phone.

  • Palm Centro - Vista - Hot Sync Problem

    Hello:  I have a Palm Centro (Verizon) and am having major issues hot synching to my new Windows Vista (32 bit) home PC.  I continually get the following error message:
    "Error: SgConflictNotifier.dll failed a confirmation query and cancelled the sync operation."
    "HotSync Error: An application canceled synchronization or failed to respond to a HotSync notification.  Please ensure that you are not currently editing data using applications such as Palm OS Desktop or Install Tool (8009)."
    I am running Hot Sync Manager 7.0.2 and Palm desktop by ACCESS 6.2.2.
    When I tried the Hot Sync operation on my old XP computer, no issues whatsoever.   Can anyone help?
    Thanks

  • Centro will not Sync (Verizon)

    My last sync was 4/21/09. I recently purchased an upgrade to DataVis Documents to Go. Now my Hot Sync does not respond 'determining configuration'. I have reloaded the desktop and reset the Centro, no go. The new version of Document to Go has not be loaded to the Centro yet. Suggestions.

    Glad you got things to sync, just a quick thought.
    4.1.4 is a rather old version of Palm Desktop.  I would have suggested you try 4.1.4E, as it was designed for later devices and has some updated USB drivers in it...

  • Centro Repeated Attempts to Hot Sync then Died

    I was running errands and heard a beep on the Centro. It told me that I could not connect for a Hot Sync (which I had not attempted) I said OK and the phone continued over and over to try to Hot Sync.  I took out the battery twice to see if that would fix things. After the first battery out/in, the phone went back to repeated Hot Sync attempts. After the 2nd battery out/in, the phone died. HELP!

    Hello VAViola and welcome to the Palm forums.
    Your Centro is stuck in a HotSync loop.  To get out of the loop, do the following:
    1. Connect your HotSync cable to the Centro and allow it to sync to your Mac or PC to ensure that all of your data is synced to the compuer.
    2. Hard reset the Centro.  This will break the loop and erase everything on the Centro and return it to it's factory default settings.
    3. HotSync the Centro with your computer to reload your data and applications.
    Hope that helps,
    Alan G

  • Ringer volume not in sync with messaging or other alert volume - Verizon Centro

    Hello and I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum or has been discussed before.
    I have the Verizon Centro and have found that when I adjust the ringer volume using the side keys, the text message and any other alert volume stays at whatever I set it at earlier. So if I had previously set it at 7, I can put the ringer at 1 and the message alert is stuck at 7. I would really like to have these both sync with the side keys. Is this possible?
    Thank you.

  • Fofd Sync and Verizon Centro

    My Verizon Centro phone will not accept the Ford Sync (Microsoft Software for 2009 Escape) into its trusted list after I select Sync from the "devices" list and I enter the Sync-generated PIN and wait for a response.
    The connection attempt stops after maybe 10 seconds and I get a message saying "cannot add device to trusted list."
     Is this a universal incompatibility issue?
    If not, is there software I need to add to my Centro to correct the problem?
    Thanks,
    jim

  • Only Able to Wirelessly Sync Palm Centro One-Time Before Needing to Reboot My PC to Sync Again

    I'm using a Bluetooth dongle to sync between a Palm Centro and my PC, which uses the Windows Vista 64-bit and Outlook 2007. After an unbelievable four hours on the phone with Palm support, I was able to synchronize wirelessly because that was the only option available.
    All synchronizations have been problem free for at least four months and then for reasons that escape me, I can only successfully sync once, without having to reboot my PC. It seems that each reboot is good for one sync. When I try to sync more than once, I get the following error message on my Centro:
    "Unable to initiate hot sync operation because the port is in use by another application."
    I am probably going to be upgrading to Windows 7 over the next month or two and am a bit concerned with the problems I've seen from people who've gone from Vista to Windows 7, who did not have any problems under Vista. The only reason I mention this is because of whatever solution that is suggested, hopefully it will also work under Windows 7.
    It is great to have a community that helps with Palm. Thank you very much.

    The Bluetooth work around as worked for most customers and does not for some. This is for both Vista 64 and Windows 7 64. With your case it sounds like the Bluetooth partnership needs to be renewed. To do that delete both partnerships from the device and then re-add them. If you need more information on this please look at this thread: http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=windows_hotsync&thread.id=53678

  • Hot Syncing to two Computers

    Here is the scenario:
    I have the Palm Centro and I have successfully sync with my home computer. I am trying to sync up with my work computer(I have installed the Palm CD). I have gone in to the hot sync mgr and changed the setting to where "device overrides desktop" . But every time I try and sync it gets held up on the datebook until I finally have to end the task and cancel the sync. Subsequent to that I have tried just syncing everything but the datebook and it still gives me the same hang up and tries to sync the datebook even though I have not selected to sync it. I am running Windows XP on both computers. So as of now the hot sync mgr on the work computer still says "Last Hot Sync: <none>" Any advice?

    I have been having similar problems with my new Centro. It was sucnhing for a few days then got hung up. I got DBFixIt, but my Centro won't synch to load it. On one computer it got hung on on Calendar and now when I try and synch it can't find the desktop. I went to Palm and tried to load the newest version of the software (mine is version 1.02) from my other computer, but when I synched with the desktop first (recmmended since it does a hard reset) I got an error message that "Datebook synchronization aborted. Could not read next handheld record. Some handheld records were not copied. Computer may be full or may have reached maximum allowed records on desktop. To correct, delete some records and perform HotSynch - Destop 1306 Handheld 1520."
    I checked Palm and I should have plenty of space. I don't know how to delete records without going through each one individually.
    How do I either load the DBFitIt or upgrade the software when I can't get it to synch on either computer? I have already done one hard reset.
    i am using Windows XP on both computers and Palm Desktop Access v 6.2.2

  • Here we go again - Verizon Centro Versamail not working with Road Runner

    I posted back in early Demember about a problem I encountered receiving my Road Runner email on my Verizon Centro in this thread.  The crazy thing just decided to start working on it's own after a month of failing to receive emails.  Well, this afternoon it decided to choke again and has been choking all day.  I tried my wife's Centro gotten at the same time as mine and it's doing the exact same thing.  Each auto sync or attempt to manually retrieve email results in the following error:

    Of course this is happening right before I'm heading out of town to coach my kid's hockey team in a tournament - a time I really rely upon my mobile email.  I am ready to pull out my gun, blast a few holes in the thing and go get myself a Motorolla Q or a Blackberry.  Can anybody help with this goofiness!?!

    Are you running any kind of Fax software or modem software on this PC?
    I found out Windows Media Center has a function that monitors the phone line to your computer.  It will announce the caller ID of any call coming in, if set to do so.
    This was causing problems with some Fax software I wanted to run!  When I turned this setting off, the Com port became available.

    At this time there is no ETA on any, if any, cabled solution for syncing palm os devices to Vista/XP 64 bit machines. There is a bluetooth solution that has been stickied to the top of the hotsync board, that is the best solution available at this time.

  • Laptop restarts sometimes during hot sync

    Why does my laptop crash on occasion during hot sync?  Laptop is a HP with AMD 2 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM and plenty of disc space.  At times I do get "failed to backup one file", PMTracedatabase, Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened (4004), SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN.  Phone is a Centro and I have done the updates/downloads.  Thanks.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    What are the Palm files you are referring to? Are these the files from the Palm desktop user folder?
    You can do a sync after the re-install with the conduits set at handheld overwrites desktop to sync the data from the Centro to the PC.  To make sure you have the data backed up, use the procedure below.
    The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each application (contacts, calendar, etc.) in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
    Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
    Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
    With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
    Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
    With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
    Here are the "clean" uninstall instructions for Vista.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
    Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
    copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer.
    Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
    *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
    into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
    Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
    Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
    Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If you have the data intact on the device, set the conduits to handheld overwrites desktop.
    If it asks you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen.
