  • Unable to Login To iTunes U Private Site

As of this morning we are experiencing an issue on campus where no one is able to view any course material in iTunes U. Upon logging in, users are being redirected to the public site, as opposed to the private site. Nothing in our configuration has changed, so we're unsure why this is happening. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would recommend appending the debug suffix to your transfer script and confirming that the time stamp falls within a 90 second window of our time servers. It is often the case that when users are suddenly no longer able to access a private iTunes U site and no change has been made to the resource that generates the authorization token, there is a disparity between the time-stamp provided by the system generating the token and Apple's time servers, greater than 90 seconds.

  • How do I apply for iTunes U private site?

I am going crazy trying to figure out how to apply for a private site.  My instructors want their class content restricted to their students.  We have some public content also, but I am very confused how this works.
I have looked everywhere for a separate private site application.  The adminstrators guide said it could be applied for at the same time as the public site but I couldn't figure it out.
    Please help!

I believe classes are created private by default, so your instructiors will start with a private class. As I understand it, only you (as an admin) have the power to make a particular course public.

  • 'Wild Card' access setting in iTunes U - private site

    Hi Folks,
I mistakenly deleted one of my access settings in our private iTunes U site today, and have managed to block all of our users from seeing any of their course content.
Does anyone know of an access setting that is some kind of Download wild card? I vaguely remember that it didn't look like any credentials were a part of the rule, so I assumed it was a kind of wild card.
    Cheers!

The problem seems to be related to loading images from the apple site (deimos.apple.com). The iTunes launch page will randomly lock-up while loading these images ( there is a 30 second to 2 minute delay typically). If I try to load one of these images defined in the launch page HTML, directly in the browser I see the same issue. The issues varies, at times there is no issue and at others the images won't load properly 50% of the time.

  • Block streaming of video on iTunes U private site

We want the video content to be download only unless there's a way around the following. When users click on the file name of a video it trys to stream it and then asks for the Username and PW for the folder on the content server. We do not want this to happen. When users click download the video downloads without a problem. We have the User and PW set up in the RSS feed info within the course. Any suggestions? Are we missing something?

    FYI:
We fixed it by using the same time server on our backend server that Apple is using on their iTunes U servers.
That would be my generalized recommendation for all sites (for what my suggestions are worth ). I look at it this way…it's not so much a matter of who's got the correct time, it's more a matter of whether Apple and I agree about time. Since I can't mess with Apple's servers, I always use Apple as a time source for iTunes U. That way if Apple is wrong, I'm wrong just as much and iTunes U keeps troopin' along.

  • Is the iTunes U Administration Guide out of date? Info on private sites needed

Am I missing something or is the iTunes U AdministrationGuide out of date?

It seems to refer to the ‘old’ iTunes U instead of the new public site manager. I must admit I find the iTunes U documentation quite consfusing and unitiuative. The web layout of the PSM and Admin guide in particular is very poor.
I was looking for some information on iTunes U private sites, specifically how they differ from public sites and how to go about setting one up, but I can’t seem to find any information at all in the iTunes U documentation. Could someone point in the right direction?
    Thanks

No, my understanding is that it's for all the channels.
    Thanks

  • URL for a generic student acct to open private site possible?

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find any related information in these boards or in the admin guide. We're in the process of setting up both public and private sites. We want our students to be able to access our iTunes U private site with an URL from our private student portal. Is it possible to set up just one generic student account for this purpose?
    Thank you,
    Lucy

    Lucy,
I'm not sure I'm following you here ... lemme restate your question the way I'm reading it. If I'm not reading you correctly, just say and I and the other iTunes U gurus will try to help.
It "sounds" to me as if you're asking just to have a single URL ... a URL that never changes ... on your web portal to your private site. You'd authenticate your people (using your authentication system), but you would, essentially, have a very simple transfer setup. It'd work like this:
    1. Students get to your private website's login page.
    2. They authenticate.
    3. If their authentication is successful, you go to another page with a single static link (a link that never changes) that gets students into your iTunes U site with a "generic" student identity.
If that's the case, the basic problem that you have is that iTunes U URLs that have credentials attached are timed ... they only live for 90 seconds ... and you have to sign the URL with a time stamp (it's also encrypted in your signature).

  • Private Site Access

    Hi
I am in the beginning stages of implementing iTunes U for my institution. We are implementing both the public and private site.I was wondering in relation to the private site do people have any advice on what is the best way to authenticate students and teachers for viewing content. Do people start from scratch and create a new web portal or do you use something like moodle or blackboard. We are hoping to avoid using moodle to authenticate users.
Any advice or issues that people have encountered when setting up a private site would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The easiest way would be to integrate the iTunes U-authentication into the system already at work at your campus. That system probably has data like enrolled courses etc. already in its database, giving you a great point to start. It heavily depends on the granularity you are looking for, though.

  • Suddenly, my 1st gen can't access iTunes store.  It sits on "Accessing iTunes Store", with a spinning wheel for days.  I can access the store from my iMac, but not the Apple TV.  Everything is up to date.  What's the deal?

I can't figure out why my 1st gen appletv cannot access the itunes store.  All newer movies are coming up to view and I can watch previews, but when I go to rent, it stays on the spinning wheel with the Accessing iTunes Store forever.  I've left it going for at least 4 or 5 days.  I can rent from my iMac, but all I have is the headphone, analog, 2-channel audio feed and not the true digital surround.  It sounded much better from the appletv.  HELP!

Read a bunch of posts from 2008 and 2010.  The only step I found that I hadn't tried was the ol' plug pull.  After that, I got the first movie I tried renting.  ???  At least it works now.

  • Access for the Public / Site problems

What is the best way to give access to the Public & still keep the private sections / courses, etc. private?
According to the docs, the All System credential's access permission should be updated to "Download" for the public to see anything. If I select "Download" then "All" sees all, even the protected content, when entering via the default site login URL from our public entry page. All is currently set to "No Access".
    http://www.wright.edu/itunes/
    which is:
    https://deimos.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Browse/wright.edu
Our "Site login URL" in the iTunes U "Edit Site Settings" is set to our authentication page.
    Thanks,
    Bryan
P.S. As of this morning ALL banners and course and section icons display a broken link icon. About 20 minutes agon only some were broken.
More strangeness: last night while trying to login several times, I could not; I received the following messages:
"Can't connect to application instance" & "Did not receive any responce from application. It is posssible that t he application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect."
    The URL was not incorrect.

    Working now.

  • ITunes U Private issue

    ISSUE:
Can't access iTunes U public with admin credential.
    Reproduce:
    1) Click on private URL https://deimos.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/SignIn/indiana.edu
    2) Log in
    3) Wait
    4) Log in successful, however iTunes U page is black with scroll bar.
iTunes U Public works just fine:

We are aware of iTunes U sites that have created fairly broad and deep structures to include hundreds and even thousands of courses. This design of building a site is expected and recommended by Apple in order to help your user's experience of browsing iTunes U be as simple as possible. There are 2 problems that we aware of that come from this practice. First, the experience for Administrators can be slow and tedious due to the size of the site's main page and/or subsequent division pages. This problem may lead to a situation where iTunes simply renders a blank page when the Site Administrator logs in. Second, access to pages for end users can be slow especially if that structure is particularly large (in the thousands of course pages and tabs).
The iTunes U team will be working to resolve several issues that can arise from having sites this large and in the mean time we are recommending a few things that will help you plan your site and optimize its performance:
    - Don't create empty courses and groups if there's no immediate need for them. Try to create courses and groups on demand. A large set of empty courses and groups can slow things down and will also clutter your user interface.
    - We don't recommend more than 100 tracks per group. If you have a need to create a large collection of tracks that grows beyond 100 tracks, then we recommend creating several groups and subdividing your collection or using multiple course pages.
    - We don't recommend more than 200 courses on one page. Again, if you have a need to create this many courses we would recommend that you subdivide. We will be working to resolve this issue in order to simplify and flatten the user experience for users that have access to only a few courses/groups.
    - Clean up unused courses and groups and archive them outside of iTunes U. If you know a course from a previous session/semester/quarter is no longer being used, then you could delete it and restore it a later time if necessary.

  • Problems with logging into iTunes U private content. Did something change on Apple's end?

We've been running iTunes U for public and private content for several years.
Just in the last day or so, when we log in with our local credentials, a blank page pops up.
The person who set up the transfer script said something changed on Apple's end. Does anyone know if there was a change or is also having a problem?
    Marilyn
    Ithaca College.

We are not seeing an issue accessing the Ithaca College site via transfer script on our end. In most cases, when a transfer script that had previously worked suddenly stops working, the time stamp for the credentials is outside of the 90 second window we are expecting. We would recommend appending the debug suffix to the credential to test the credential.
