  • Sound not working on iPhone 4

I have recently started noticing a sound problem on my iPhone 4. My sound option has recently disabled itself since yesterday. At first, I searched the forums for an answer, but I found only old answers for when iOS 5 came out. It stated that I had to rub alcohol into my charger port and headphone jack. I was skeptical at first, so I blew into both, attempting to "clean" the ports, the way you would do with a Nintendo DS/Gameboy/ etc. Blowing into the headphone jack didn't work, so I tried the charger. It created a temporary fix, that lasted for approximately 2-15 minutes. I then got tired of doing this and followed the steps labeled on an old, old thread. It required me to put alcohol on a Q-Tip and clean out the insides of the ports. I attempted that, but the fix but it kept turning on my iPhone, even though it was already shut down. Even when it was on and I tried the alcohol method, the fix would last for about one minute. Can you please help me? I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 7.0.4 installed (I am not going to attempt at updating to iOS 7.1)

The iPhone charging port assembly is faulty. The replacement part is charging port assembly with flex cable, lower mic, and home button flex connector all a single less than $10 part. Apple handles this with Replacement iPhone 4 for $149, make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store.

  • Does Bose Sound dock work with iPhone?

I have a lovely bose dock that I currently hook my iPod up to.
Anyone know I can use the iPhone with it?

    Hi Jmalese:
You'll have to gauge the reliability of the following for yourself, but it would appear that there's some evidence that the iPhone and the Bose Dock will work together, providing you put the iPhone in Airplane Mode.

View Fetch schedule at the bottom of the previous page, select time (longer time preserve battery and use less data).

  • Sound not working on iphone 5

I have an iphone 5.  The sound just stopped working.  No physical damage, no water, no shock.  Downloaded the new operating system ios7 the day it came out and everything was working fine.  Now it has stopped working.  The earbuds work, I can hear with them plugged in however when they come out there is no external sound on the device.  Anyone have any solutions?  Thanks.

Clean iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush. The iPhone port has a short, and falsely senses it is in a dock device.

I have a new iPhone 5C, have the sounds alerts set up. But I'm not getting sound alerts for new voicemail, only the red circle on the screen.  How can I make the sound alert work?

I have had this same problem for weeks now with my 4S.  I just got a new 5S after being extremely frustrated and the same thing - no sounds.  After searching posts all over, I couldn't find a solution. I just told my friend of the issue and he asked "Do you have the Do Not Distrub on?"  I didn't even know such a function existed.  Upon looking that was exactly the issue.
To resolve, go to Settings> Do Not Disturb> Manual.  If it is green, turn it off.  You will now get phone calls and text alerts.
This functionality is also on your quick access utility menu (slide up menu).  I assume this is how it was enabled on my phone.
I will post on other sites since I searched for weeks for this solution and didn't see it anywhere.  Good luck!

when i make calls, all i can hear is static, and when i plug in headphones or turn the speaker on, it still doesnt work. but facetime, music, an apps sound still work. help? iphone 5

    Hello Delaney1130,
It sounds like you are getting static on both the receiver and the speaker when you make a call. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve the issue named:
iPhone: Troubleshooting issues making or receiving calls
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS3406
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
    Check your phone settings:
Check your Do Not Disturb settings: Tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
Check for any blocked phone numbers: Tap Settings > Phone > Blocked.
See if Call Forwarding is turned on: Tap Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding.
Ensure that your software is up to date:
Check for a carrier settings update.
Check for an iOS software update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
If the iPhone has a SIM card, reseat the SIM card.
If the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s is on the Verizon network, dial *228 from the iPhone and select option 2 to update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL). The PRL determines the cellular towers the phone uses for cellular service, selecting those with the best signal strength.
Reset the network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Try to make or receive calls in another location.
Attempt to isolate to one network band:
If you're having the issue on LTE, disable LTE, if possible, and try again.
If you're having the issue on 3G/4G, disable 3G/4G, if possible, and try again.
Contact the carrier to check the following:
Your account is properly configured to use the specific iPhone that has the issue.
There are no localized service outages.
    Your account doesn't have a billing-related block.
Your calls don't have errors on the carrier system.
    Restore the phone as new.
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, go to an Apple Retail Store, carrier, Apple Authorized Reseller, or contact AppleCare to send the phone in for service.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

Hello everyone my iPhone 5s sounds stop working.i did not do anything it just stop working when I tried to turn on my music player all the sounds is not working I already check the volume and it is not also muted :( what happened can anyone solve my problem please

    Hey Kirby17,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are not getting any sound from the speaker, follow this article.
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved, please contact Apple Support.
    Have a nice day,

  • Unable to make microphone to work on NVIDIA MCP55 onboard sound card

    Hello.
Some time ago, I bought a nice HP xw9400 Workstation (with Dual Core AMD Opteron  2216) from Germany. Despite it's starting to become old by today's standards for some stuff like gaming, it's still quite okay to use and the SAS HDD makes it boot fastly. And it has one of the best cases, you can plug PCI/PCIe/PCI-X cards very easily and it's very nice to change or add HDDs. Maybe I'll upgrade the CPUs (I can upgrade the bios and it seems it can support better CPUs) if I find them on eBay or other place.
I have less problems with Arch than the rest of distributions, but I still have weird issues. Despite my computer hardware is somewhat old, I still experience weird problems everywhere (it seems I have some kind of weird "luck").
I have problems using my microphone under Arch with "NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)" onboard sound card , here is the relevant info.

Sorry, that was wrong, I meant
    arecord -l
Have you tried making a virtual loopback device like above and using
    arecord -vv -fdat out.wav
You should see the #### fluctuate as you speak into the mic. If not, then unmute and turn up your mic in alsamixer. That loopback device will allow you to capture your sound card and hear it at the same time. Another way to do it is to use a jumper from line out to line in on your sound device. You won't be able to hear it while you record though.
If your sound device works, then you can capture what's going through it. You'll need to determine which vitual device your mic is.
    Example
    arecord -l
