Hot to output in QuickTime, codec H264, at 30fps

Hi.  I'm using Premiere Pro CS6.  I need to output my footage in QuickTime with H264 Codex at 30 fps - but when I use the drop down to select QuickTime Format and select H.264 as my codec, I don't see any place that lets me change my frames per second rate.
If I select H264 as my format in the Export Settings (instead of QuickTime), then I'm given a FrameRate drop down (this gives an mp4 file instead of mov file)
Thanks

Jon and Joe -
Thanks for the replies, especially the screen shot.
Not sure what was going on yesterday.  I just opened a new project and the Frame Rate drop down shows up (as in your screen shot).
Then re-opened the project I was working on yesterday and that works fine too.
Only thing I can think of is that the way I had my windows sized, my Basic Video Settings in the video tab must have cut off above the frame rate dropdown and I didn't notice the scroll bar to the right, indicating more content in that window.
Thanks again for the help.  I'd worked around things yesterday by creating a new sequence and giving it the required properties from the start, but was worried this would be a recurring problem.

H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.

  • Quicktime codecs missing AE can't output HELP!!! :)

I recently uninstalled my older versions of CS3 & CS4 from my computer, with those I seemed to lose my quicktime codecs. When I go to render out of AE I am missing lossless, alpha only, lossless with alpha, Quicktime DV NTSC, PAL 48khz, and Ram Preview. Is there any way to get the quicktime components reinstalled? A link?
My output to in Render also says Unknown Output Destination... When clicked it errors: After Effects warning: cannot output to this format because it is not currently installed. (39 :: 99)
I also get the following errors at program start You have at least one output module template that refers to a missing output plug-in. Please check your Output Module Templates.

This problem is unsolved, and it occurs with my new install of CS5 on 10.6.
Many of us discovered to our horror that upgrading from 10.5 to MacOS10.6 made Quicktime Pro disappear only to be replaced by the crippled QTx Most of the functions of QTPro have been incorporated directly into Apple's pro apps. You can install QT7 from the 10.6 disk as an option and that might reinstate some of your lost functions. Dunno, I have not bothered; everything I need from QT is readily available but I have not had a request for any products using legacy codecs.

  • Improper cuts appearing in my final output with Quicktime

Hi everyone. I've been struggling to output what, in my opinion, is a fairly simple project I've edited from an old home video (originally shot on miniDV). It's mostly just cuts and some simple text titles. Forgive me for some ignorance regarding Final Cut Pro; I've used it for a while now, but not terribly in depth.
It's a little hard for me to describe this since I lack a lot of technical terms but here goes: Every time I output my final project, certain shots begin with a single frame that is dissolving over the previous frame from the raw footage. In other words, there is a frame that does not belong, overlaying the first frame of the shot. Sometimes it's difficult to notice in real time, but at other points it looks absolutely horrible. This is supposed to be a gift for a friend, and I really just want the cuts to look normal.
A couple bits of information. First of all, not every shot starts this way. Only certain ones - always the same ones as far as I can tell. I was first outputting using Compressor, since my ultimate goal is to burn the video onto a DVD. I then tried outputting using Quicktime Conversion to H.26, PNG and Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, all of which suffered from the same problem. My first theory was that it could be an interlacing issue, since the offending frame appeared to be interlaced perfectly with the previous frame in the raw footage. However, after checking "de-interlace source video" during my output to Uncompressed 10-bit, the result was simply a blurrier dissolve between the two images.
I've tried deleting all of my render files and outputting again, but that has not worked. I viewed the raw video in my capture scratch folder to make sure that there wasn't some kind of frame overlap to begin with, but there wasn't. The video looks totally fine in my timeline, and all I want is for my output to replicate that. The only thing left I can think of doing is going shot by shot and cutting out frames in my timeline, which will take an extraordinary amount of time, not to mention the fact that I'd have to output all of my videos, slow down each and every cut, and find the bad frames that I haven't noticed yet.
I refuse to believe that there's no way for Final Cut Pro to output these videos properly, but I certainly haven't found it yet. Hopefully someone out there has some experience with this problem or can at least venture a guess as to how to fix it, since I'm all out. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!

@Jim Cookman: If that's true that would really suck. You're absolutely right, those offending shots don't have handles (so far I've only noticed it with regards to in-points, not out-points) But the thing is, I'm not doing any transitions with those shots. They're just simple cuts. I don't see why Final Cut Pro can't output a cut at the frame I want it to cut at. The problem is that the video I'm editing is home video with very short shots and people's phrases being cutoff. It wasn't shot with editing in mind. Nevertheless, I've had handles where I put dissolves and whatnot, I just don't have them here. It's not like I'm unwilling to trim one or two frames here or there, but the real issue is that it would be a crazy amount of work, especially after everything I've already done to get the timeline just how I want it. There is some music and effects, and there are a lot of cuts; going through every one of them would be very difficult.
So I guess with regards to handles, the question is: is there any way to select a clip, or set of clips in a timeline, and have FCP automatically trim the first and last frames, while simultaneously adjusting music, etc.? If so, then that may very well solve the problem. But if not, well, then I have a lot of work ahead of me... Thre's always next year!
Anyway, I appreciate both of your inputs. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

  • Issues with Quicktime in Mavericks. I cant export to quicktime codecs in After Effects Or Premiere

    Hi,
I recently updated to OS Mavericks. And in the beginning I really liked the update, but I recently fired up my After Effects CC and Premiere CC to work on some animation videos I had to produce for client. And when I wanted to export my animation. I could not find my Quicktime Codec settings like. H264, Mp4, Apple Pro res or any other quicktime codec. I read some articles on issues with Mavericks/Qucktime and this export problem in After Effects and Premiere. But I could not find a solution. It used to work on 10.8.5!
I tried this... But it did not work ;-(
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/08/solutions-for-problems-with-quicktim e-files-in-after-effects-cc-12-0-because-of-conflict-with-dvcprohdvideoout-quick time-component.html
I tried to uninstall perian. But did not help at all. They even discontinued the product.
Does anyone else stumbled on this problem? Or maybe has a solution? I thought of downgrading to 10.8.5 But that is not ideal because I don't have a Time machine Backup from that period or earlier. And otherwise I have to collect all my data, emails, pictures etc. I seriously could use some help!

After uninstalling and reinstalling the entire Adobe CC suite and all QuickTime components I was still dead in the water. I then tried another User account on my computer and AE and AME worked perfectly with fast startup and all QT/H.264 components in place. This established the problem was in my main User directory...
After some backing up, I deleted all Adobe and com.Adobe.whatever files from User/Library/Preferences and then restarted the computer. I then copied all Adobe and com.Adobe.whatever files from the other user folder and restarted and found that After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder were working perfectly:

  • I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X. For example, can I export  in F4V or FLV format?

I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X.  For example, can I export  in FLV format?  Where do I find the list, which gives me all the details about it?  Or is there only one output codec? Thanks

That's an excellent analogy. While FCP cannot export FLV. It is possible to do a very simple substitution. If you export a QuickTime movie using the .mov suffix with the H.264 codec, you can change it to FLV simply by changing the suffix to .flv. This is an acceptable format for Flash movies on most web sites, if that's where you're trying to go.

  • Rendering Quicktime using H264 BUG confirmed -  LUCKILY there's an easy  work around

I thought making this a thread might help more people. Basically when you export media from Premiere with the intent on making a 'Quicktime with H264 or Sorenson' file. Adobe Media Encoder RESETS the bitrate you manually entered when it starts up.
Once you set it you never think to recheck it. This only happens when export from Premiere not when you import a project or use AME as a standalone which is why it worked fine for some people and not others.
Brian Dombrowski figured it out here's what he said. Thanks Brian this helps a lot. I'm glad there;s a way to make it work right now there's alot of uses for h264 quicktimes especially for web use. Anyway here's Brian.
    "Brian Dombrowski - 7:51am Dec 5, 08 PST (#11 of 13)
I've seen the same thing this week for a client that requested some HD video to be FTP'd in QuickTime H.264 at 15mb. There is a *bug* with AME in CS4 with the bitrate setting for QuickTime H.264. No matter what you set it too, it keeps getting reset to 1000kb (yes 1k bit per second) resulting in low quality video and small .mov file sizes.
Here is the workaround I found:
    1) In Premiere Pro CS4, Export-Media to get in Media Encoder and set to your QuickTime Format and then go down to Video tab to set h.264 codec. Scroll down to the bitrate settings and check set bitrate, you'll see it defaults 1000kb. Change it to something higher, like 15,000. Then hit OK button.
    2) When AME opens up, you'll see your job in the queue. Click on your job on the Preset column where it says "Custom". This will load up a new window with the encoder settings again. Go down to Bitrate Settings again in that window and notice the bit rate has been reset to 1000kb. This is the problem (bug in AME.) If you change it here on this page, and hit OK, and then your bitrate settings will hold true in AME. Start the job queue and verify the generated .mov quality is as desired.
I guess what is probably happening is that when PP CS4 launches AME, AME resets the codec settings. Adobe can send me some free store credit for finding their stinking bug. I need AE anyway."

In Premiere File - export - media.
Export setting pop up. First choice is FORMAT: (here you pick Quicktime)
There's only 5 presets no matter which of the 20 or so codecs you pick so you have to set everything yourself. Under the Video tab there's a drop down menu called VIDEO CODEC: (here you pick H264 or sorenson)
I'm only talking about quicktime .mov files your screenshot has you using the flv format not quicktime. So it shouldn't be a problem for you.

  • How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?

How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?
I have several movies from 2008 that are labeled as .mov but I now get a QuickTime error saying "The document "XXXXXX" could not be opened. A required Codec isn't available."
These movies ran in QuickTime just fine until about a month ago.
All the folders in which these movies were stored in 4 folders in 2 folders in one folder. All folders at each level were encrypted with Stuffit Deluxe a version circa 2008 and decrypted with a newer Stuffit Deluxe 10.x. Other movies that are NOT .mov and in with the .mov movies still run.
If I click on the Thumbnail Preview "It" runs.
    How can I fix this?
TOP image is the Error message.
BOTTOM image is the Thumbnail Preview info.
I've checked out "Tell Me More" and have not found a solution.

How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?
The basic work flow is to determine which codecs were used to create the non-playing file and then check to see if these formats are supported by your current system codec component configuration.
If the files will open in one of the QT player app, the open the inspector window to see which codecs were used to create the original file as seen here...
or here in the "Format" entry...
Or, if you have QT 7 keyed for "Pro" use, you can open the "Properties" window to gain even more information as demonstrated here...
if you file will not open in either of the QT Player apps, then you can try opening the Finder "Get Info" window for the file,
use a third-party media player that will open the file, or
use a dedicated media information utility to learn this information....
Once you know what codecs were used to create the file, post back with this information so we can deterine if the file should be natively supported by your Mac OS X install, requires an Apple Pro editing codec normally installed by the editor app, or requires a third-party codec which the user must supply.
Your information does not indicate whether or not the files actually played on the current system or were transferred from a different system which was properly configured for playbac, whether or not you recently upgraded your operating system/modified your codec component configuration by adding or deleting any codecs, whether your compound "Stuffing" of the files created corruption, etc.
As to MOV files the selves, this extension just implies the data was placed in the QT generic file container and the actually data could be of any compression format thathat was compatible with the codec component configuration for the system on which the files were created and could include natively supported system codecs, pro editing codecs, and/or third-party proprietary or hybrid codecs. (I.e., this is why we may need more information regarding the individual non-playing files.)
If I click on the Thumbnail Preview "It" runs.
f you are referring to QuickLook (QL) then the technology is different than QuickTime (QT). In the former case, the system is playing representative data but not actually opening the file as QT does. Thus, there is always the possibility that the problem is in the file structure (atom) information. For instance, suppose someone merely changed the MOV file extension in the Finder rather than actually copying data to a real MOV file container. Then it is possible that the QT player app may be searching for a codec that is not supposed or expected to be supported in the MOV file container and, not finding it, issues the erroneous codec error message—especially since you did not inticate the source of the file you are trying to play or, in some cases, which QT player is now not playing the file.
In short, there are several possibilities here and not enough specific information.

  • HDV Quicktime Codec for PC

    Hi
I am in the middle of editing a project on FCP 5 and need to export part of it to a PC.
The footage is HDV 1080 50i and for speed I would prefer to keep it that way.
I'm having trouble finding the Quicktime codec to allow the footage to be palyed back on the PC, can anyone tell me where to find this???
    Thanks

I think you're talking about exporting to wmv. Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD is a good start. If you want better than that, check out Episode.

  • Live streaming ( play && publish ) over rtmp/rtmfp with codecs ( h264 && PCMU ) on Android/iOS

I have a question: On what operating systems(android, ios) can be played and published stream with codecs H264 and PCMU with rtmp and rtmfp protocols(live streaming)?
As far as I found out with the codecs can be played on Android(rtmp protocol). On IOS video is not displayed, as I understood AIR environment cuting it.
Another question regarding video texture. Will be included in future releases support for live playing h264+PCMU on IOS?

On iOS, you'll need to be playing a HLS stream for h264 to decode when streaming from a remote server.

If you can view a ProRes 4-2-2 video at all, then you either have the independent ProRes422 Playback component installed or the FCP "Pro" video components installed.

Check your "~/Library/QuickTime" folder for your various "Pro" components. If in doubt that you have them all, re-run the FCP installer and it should add any missing components, apps, or utilities.

  • Do not update Proapps Quicktime Codecs 1.0.4 on Mavericks

    Hi there,
I'm on a nMac Pro, 12 core, 64GB RAM Mavericks 10.9.1 and the latest versions of AE and Premiere.
I recently (today) updated my Quicktime proapps codecs from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 at the prompting of Apple updater and it has broken AE and Premiere.
The Adobe QT32 server does not respond once either of these apps are opened and when I try to save my project in AE, the save dialogue gets to about 50-80% and then I get the spinning wheel of death, the system freezes up (although not completely, I can still move things around a bit and the clock still ticks forward) and I have to hard restart.
I'm on the phone with Apple Care right now trying to figure out a way to revert back to 1.0.3.
Any help with that process would be appreciated.  I can't find Proapps Quicktime codecs 1.0.3 anywhere on the web.

"At this point do you think the problems are related? In other words, would the same problem have occurred if you did not install the ProApp codecs update?"
I think that's a safe assumption. I have a 100% motion graphics comp that I've been working on that AE chews through pretty easily in multicore, it think it's just not digging the ProRes.  I did have a mograph comp that AE was chewing through, but not anymore :/  This was on my internal drive though, soooo. . .
There may also be an IO component at work here as well.  I'm not working off internal drive on the Mac Pro, rather a USB3 external and I was reading and writing to the same drive.  I'm going to try writing to the internal and see if that doesn't alieveate things a bit.
So now it's just spinning wheels of death all the time.  I'm trying to view a single frame in the comp panel after adjusting and replacing some footage in a screen fill pre-comp and it's just hanging.  I've pressed caps lock to try and free it up, not working.  Nothing is really working.
I've adjusted the RAM settings, allocating more RAM to background processes.  I've probably hard restarted my machine twenty times today.
I'm turning off multicore completely.  What a let down today was.

  • AE cs5 no 10 bit output to Sheer codec?

Hello I had been using the RGB 10 bit flavor of the Sheer video codec on my current machine using Cs4 with XP64 with no problems at all.... Recently I upgraded to Ae Cs5 and Windows 7 64... same hardware, newest version of quicktime, Ae 10.1, newest version of Sheer codec...
I'm unable to render a 10 bit mov with Cs5... I'm able to choose Sheer 10bit rgb as an option BUT I'm unable to choose "trillions of colors" which I was able to do in Cs4... So I can choose Sheer 10bit and render it but the rendered mov is a Sheer 8bit file... is there a way to enable the "trillions of colors" option and render 10bit mov's using the Sheer Codec with Cs5?
My comp is using 32bpc, no luck when its set to 16bpc either... I've looked for info and found some references to editing an Xml file to enable features in other codecs and I poked around in the Ae pref's folders.. trashed the pref's... but still no "trillions of colors" or 10bit Sheer renders...
If anyone has any ideas for me to try I would greatly appreciate them thanks!

I've made a little more progress but I need a little help... I found this article about how to make the Ae 7.0 render the Sheer codec in 10bit... Here's what he said in the article...
"So I went into the Adobe After Effects Prefs file, did a search for  "QuickTime 64" to find the right part of the prefs file, and saw that  there was now "Shr0" through "Shr7 listed, but they all were set to "0" (meaning no 64 bit/Trillions support)  so I changed all those to "1" to enable the Trillions option. After  changing that setting in prefs file and relaunching After Effects 7.0,  Trillions was now an option for the Sheer codecs"
I couldn't find the "Quicktime 64" section in the Ae pref's file or anything related to quicktime codecs....
Now it seems Ae has changed as the codec info is no longer in the Ae pref's file...its in the "mediacoreQTCodecRulesCs5" file...
According to the article I know the code for the Sheer codec I'm trying to enable to render is "Shr7"
So I've found its section in that file....
        <QTCodec codec='Shr7' vendor='****' platform='mactel' direction='encode' versionlow='0x00000' versionhigh='*' gammatag='false' cvbuffertag='0' deepdecodefourcc='b64a' decodefourcc='argb' />

But I don't know what to change to enable AE to use the "trillions of colors" setting and render true 10bit.... any ideas? Thanks
btw: I also submitted a bug report

  • Hi, ProApps QuickTime Codecs installers

Whenever I try to install the ProApps codecs I get a message saying sys 10.6 or later. However on the download page it says for 10.5.6 or later / QT 7.6 or later (Im 10.5.8 / 7.6.9)
The page as the screen shot says is for proapps qt codecs v 1.0.1 but when I go to install the Pkg, the disc image says 2.0.1
Even when I go to a third party download site, again it says Im downloading 1.0.1 but get the 2.0.1 instead.
Does anyone have a solid link to the 1.0.1 version?
Or better yet Im just looking for the XDCAM codec.
    I have these .mov files
I actually tried playing these files in VLC. I get the vid but no sound, in QT I get the sound but no vid. In itunes same as QT, sound but no vid.
I downloaded a product called Calibrated{Q} XD Decode.  The files play great but without buying the product ($89) there is a watermark on the vid.
    Thanks Rob

HERE is the solution sent to me by another Apple Community supporter:
I also had a similar problem to most people here. Cannot playback XDCAM files after upgrading from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I called Apple who suggested a fresh install of Snow Leopard without upgrading the 'ProApps QuickTime Codecs 1.0.3' and copy the contents of the Library/QuickTime form the fresh install into my QT library. However, I decided to seek the file(s) that is the cause which is the AppleHDV.Component file. I copied the faulty one to my desktop (so I had a backup) and downloaed:
    PerianXDCam.component.zip -> PerianXDCam.component
    PerianHDV.component.zip -> PerianHDV.component

Once unzipped, copy into the Library/QuickTime folder and this should solve your problem, until Apple and Sony resolve this issue.
