Hotkey problem w/ FCE 2--

Hi,
My Final Cut Express doesn't like it when I use any shortcut keystrokes and quits on me. Is there a download fix for this or is it a computer issue?
Also, I was told that the Final Cut Studio programs won't run on this MAC "17 PowerPC G4. Is this true? This laptop is almost 3 years old.
Thanks much,
Dave D. (mid-level beginner)

Hi Eveyone,
Tom, you gave me an idea with your post. I checked my keyboard setting in the menulet (top right flag icon) and it was set to U.S. Extended. Just for fun I opened FCE2 and set my keyboard setting to U.S. (not Extended). The shortcut key combinations seem to work fine now. I did not re-install the program yet.
Thanks! I wonder why that Extended setting would cause it to crash?

  • Help! Problems using FCE 2.0.3 after upgrading to OS 10.4.9

I recently upgraded to OS 10.4.9 and now I am getting "dropped frames on capture" error messages. None of the variables have changed (Same computer, camera, tape, external HD, cables) It was working great two days prior to upgrading to 10.4.9 and now I can't capture anything without getting dropped frames. I've tried a different tape, switching the capture disk to my internal HD, switching cables, reinstalling OS 10.4.9 again (this time from direct combo download), rebuilding permissions, trashing FCE preferences. I'm officially STUCK! Any help would be appreciated. Is anyone experiencing the same problems after upgrading to 10.4.9?

Just so we have all the "me too"s in the one thread, I posted about this on Saturday. I said:
I've been using FCE HD (3.0.1) for ages with my current setup and I've never had any capture problems.
This weekend, I tried capturing some anamorphic MiniDV footage for the first time for a few weeks and I repeatedly got the "dropped frames" error. I tried:
    1. another cable
    2. some different anamorphic footage from another tape
    3. trashing the prefs
    4. re-installing FCE HD
    5. de-fragging the HDD
    6. another machine (iBook G4)
I still got the error, even on the other machine.
I tried iMovie and the same camcorder and I had no problems at all so I can workaround by capturing there and importing the project into FCE (and rendering the audio), but a kludge isn't a fix
The only things to have changed since the last time I successfully captured any footage were the software updates OS X 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.5 so I strongly suspect one of those.

  • Lightroom 3.6 and Windows 8 hotkeys problem

    Dear Adobe Support, all,
I'm experiencing strange Lightroom 3.6 problems in Windows 8 PRO. The program itself seems to be stable, but unfortunately hotkeys are not working all the time. The worst thing is that they work and then something happens and suddenly they don't. It is really anoying and I tried to re-install the program without any success. I used the Windows 7 compatibility mode, but it did not help neither.
By the way, I have experienced the same problem earlier when runing Windows 8 CP, but I thought it was only a consumer preview that caused problems.
Please help. I don't really need Lightroom 4 and do not want to upgrade.
    Thanks!

    Solved!
I found out that I use many keyboards language layouts (4). So when I'm not in English layout the hotkeys stop working.
I did not had the same problem in Win7. But nevertheless, it is nice that everything works.
I hope it can help others who may experience the same issue.

  • DREAMWEAVER - HOTKEYS PROBLEM!!!

    I am pissed.
I buy purchased a new keyboard extra, nothing.
Format on PC and new install, nothing.
    IT IS NOT WORK with
    -CTRL+W (closed)
    -CTRL+S (SAVE)
    -CTRL+Z (undo)
    DOES WORK:
    -CTRL+C(COPY)
    -CTRL+P (PASTE)
WHY? The problems is long, this time I write here.

    Hallo,

  • Problems with FCE viewing on TV monito

I've used an ADVC-300 converter for several years to monitor and edit my FCE canvas. But today I am not getting real movement on the TV monitor. Just bumpy stills as I click the mouse. I've checked all cables and everything is the same. So what's happening and how do I resolve the problem?

FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toggle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on <-> off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.

I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After un-installing Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • Problem from FCE conversion to burned DVD

I've edited a 15 min. film on FCE 3.5. Use quicktime conversion, self-contained to go to IDVD. The self contained film looks fine, burn it, play DVD and the DVD has in some scenes, a "ripple" effect and alot of "interlace" problems. Brought hard drive with film to mac store, burned on their computer same thing happened. So I know its' not mechanical problem with my burner. Something in the conversion, except that when you play converted film in IDVD before burn, it looks fine?
Help, need to get this film to someone and can't figure out problem.

What does this mean? Is this a question? Yes, play it back on a TV set. Or does this mean you did play it back on a TV set. If the latter you'll need to go through your entire process to see where the interlacing is being damaged. It should play correctly on a interlaced display.

  • EPIC and disturbing audio problem in FCE

I'm editing footage I shot in DV standard on my Canon HV30 in Final Cut Express. I originally imported with iMovie HD and then dragged the files over to final cut later. I rendered all the audio, but when I went back to play it, the audio was strangely looped over itself and repeating. It's hard to explain, and even harder to understand because the audio is of a crowd at a sporting event and therefore not predictable. After listening for a few seconds, and inexplicably loud tone started blaring. It sounded like it was about 300 Hz (by ear, not any real method of measurement). I checked out the audio waveform and nothing looks out of the ordinary, and I can play audio from other programs without any problem. My question is, what the heck is wrong with final cut? An explanation can't really do this justice; I practically had a heart attack, the tone was so loud and unexpected. Does anyone have any idea what this could be from?
    Thanks.

The underlying issue is that iMovie and FCE capture DV video differently. You can import an iMovie DV clip into FCE but it will always require rendering of the audio in FCE ... but even then the results are not always predictable.
iMovie captures DV video as *QuickTime DVstream,* essentially as-is from the tape; this means that +the audio & video are interleaved,+ which actually makes editing the audio difficult. (on a miniDV tape, the recording is made up of 10 slanted tracks per NTSC frame, each track containing video, audio & control data for its portion of the frame ... giving you some idea of the complexity of the interleaving).
FCE captures DV video as *QuickTime DV-NTSC (.mov)*, (in North America) putting the audio & video into +separate, parallel, linked tracks+ in the QuickTime file; as a result the audio does not require rendering and it is much easier to edit.
Rendering the audio of a .dv clip in FCE only creates an audio render file that is associated with the original clip; it does not convert the clip to QuickTime DV-NTSC (.mov).
MPEG Streamclip is the utility you should use if you want to convert files from QuickTime DV (.dv) to QuickTime DV-NTSC (.mov).

  • NEW IN THE FORUM - HAVING PROBLEMS WITH FCE

    Hi everyone!
My name is Mauricio and I am having problems in figure out how to use the FCE. I can copy my AVCHD files from my Sony CX100 but once I input it in the time line I can't(or can not find how) edit the frames and also how to mix music tracks with the original sound.
Please, could someone help a FCE beginner???
Thanks a lot for the time and attention.
    Mauricio "Big Mac"

    Welcome aboard Big Mac,
but once I input it in the time line I can't(or can not find how) edit the >frames and also how to mix music tracks with the original sound.
Normally you don't edit in the Timeline.
You move a clip from the Browser to the Viewer.
In the Viewer you select _in and out_ points to define exactly which part of the clip is required. If you don't define in/outs the whole clip will be entered.
Then move the clip to the Timeline. A simple method to do this is drag the clip in Viewer to the Edit Insert (yellow panel) Overlay of the Canvas. This will drop the clip at the playhead point in the Timeline.

  • Satellite L40-17R - FN Sound Volume Hotkey problem - Windows XP

    Hi,
I've recently bought Satellite L40-17R (PSL4CE) without OS preinstalled. I've installed Windows XP Home Edition SP 2.
Then I have installed all drivers I have found for this model on Toshiba driver site. I've even upgraded BIOS.
After that all Fn hotkeys works fine *except those responsible for volume control (Fn + Up/Down Arrow, Esc)*.
I have searched the forum for solution of this problem and found this topic
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=113113
but I am unable to install +ATK Hotkey Utility+ and +ATK Hotkey Driver+ since I cannot find *Driver Package* at Toshiba driver site:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
    as if it was removed.
    I also studied instructions from
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/install-20071214121932.zip
Driver Package is also mentioned there on page 7, 8, 9 but it does not appear in a +Driver type+ listbox as described.
Also when I don't specify "Driver type" field in the search form there is no any Driver Package in search result.
Can anybody tell me where to find Driver Package, ATK Hotkey Utility or ATK Hotkey Driver for Satellite L40+ Win XP?
Am I missing something? Is my Toshiba drivers link not up to date? Is there any other solution to make sound hotkeys work?
    Mao

I've tried Ubuntu Linux on L40-17R and it can control the brightness automatically. For example, when u plug out the AC power (i.e. switch to battery) the brightness goes down to certain level automatically. And It can maintain the brightness level after rebooting.
I cannot find the same feature in Windows XP.
I think this is due to the missing of power saver utility. It can control the brightness automatically. and also for all other options.

  • Problem with FCE 3.5HD preinstalled on MacPro

I am getting the runaround from Apple's Online Store sales and support team. I received a MacPro preinstalled with FCE 3.5, but they didn;t send the discs. Now I cannot open the app because it requires a serial number for registration. I have made several calls to Sales Support (in Ireland) who tell me it's dealt with by a technical support team (no tel number), they have put me through three times and either I've had the wrong guy, no answer or they say it's an after-sales problem.
I have used Macs for more than 15 years but this level of service has been the worst I've experienced. Basically I've bought FCE and cannot use it. Any similar problems, or suggestions as to actually get the "support" they say they offer but actually don't??

    Maurice,
Even though the software was 'preinstalled' you should have received the installation discs. I would pursue Apple for delivery of the discs. Contact Apple Customer Service, not Sales Support. Use the Warranty contact (phone, email, mailing address) that came with your system.

  • Any known problems with FCE-HD and "Capture Now"  or edits

    I've been working with FCE for almost two years now. I've had the same problem ever since-- The SPINNING PINWHEEL OF DEATH when: playing back edited video from the timeline and the playhead passes over various edit points, usually cuts. Is it a CAPTURE problem, or camcorder RECORD problem, or something else? I use a SONY DCR-TRV38 with firewire; FCE-HD;
Any thoughts on why I get this problem so often, and what I can do to avoid it in the future? should I just switch to Avid or Premier??
    Thanks for any help...
    Shawn

    Hi Shawn.
I don't think there is a "known problem".
I assume your HDs are not more than 75% full or fragmented?
If you have not already done them, try the old chestnuts of Trashing the Preferences and Re-installing FCE.
    1. Make sure you trash all 3 of the Preference Files as detailed in this article:-
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93690
    2. If that does not work then re-install FCE but make sure you delete all the old FCE files first as shown in this link:-
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182
    Good luck.
    Ian.
PS. When you write in with a problem, remember to give all possible APPROPRIATE details eg.
Computer model and external Hard Drive.
    Operating System.
    FCE version.
    Camera type.
Did the problem suddenly occur or has it NEVER worked?
Have you recently loaded new Software or Upgraded ANY programs, Operating Systems etc.
Have you moved or altered your source files?
Have you captured the clips from a DV camera or an A/D Converter etc.?
Is it Standard or High Definition Video?
What type of files are you using?
Also include details of exactly what you were doing before the problem occurred.
Is your film hours long and filled with numerous transitions and effects etc.?
THIS IS A GENERAL LIST. SOME OF THEM WILL NOT APPLY TO YOU.

  • Audio keyframe problems in FCE

    Hi,
    I'm working with FCE 4.0.1
I'm just about ready to export a project from FCE 4 containing various forms of audio: music from external sources (.aif, .caf, .mp3) as well as audio recorded on camera.
In the edit the audio has been keyframed so that the volume adjusts during the sequence. When playing the edit from the timeline however, the keyframes seem to be ignored at random - sometimes the audio is played as meant, othertimes it is abruptly stopped - there seems to be no logic to it. This happens to all sorts of audio, to the .aif as well as .caf or the audio recorded to camera.
I made a test DVD and the audio keyframes were ignored on this too. Where am I going wrong? Does FCE have a limit on the amount of audio tracks it can read well? (In some parts I use up to 12 tracks)
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how I can fix the problem?
    Thanks!

The amount of audio tracks varies throughout the project, however to a maximum of 16.
In the user preferences I see: Real Time audio mixing 4 tracks, and audio playback quality low (faster). Would it make things better if I changed this to 16 tracks, and a high quality playback?
The sample rate of the aif files is 48khz, as is the audio rate for the sequence.
I have tried the mixdown function on a small part - and it seems to help! But I can't understand what exactly it is doing - can you explain this to me or advise me on where to find more info?
    Thanks Tom!

  • Render Problems on FCE...help!

I've been trying to edit this short film that I spontaneously decided to shoot with my digital camera (it's a canon powershot if that helps). I've edited one other project with footage from this camera and have had no problems. So far, I have sucessfully edited about 14 clips, however, now, whenever I try to render a new clip (and I have to because I have to resize all of them), the little box that says how much it has rendered and how long it will take, comes on for about .2 seconds and then goes away without rendering any of the footage. Sometimes, I it will go until it says "8%", and then goes away. What's weirder is that if I click cancel while it is rendering (which probably isn't good) it will have rendered some of the clip/a part of the red mark on the top goes away.
Yes, all the necessary tick marks are checked under the rendering settings and I tried to look up other settings under "easy setup", but I continue to have the same problem.

yes, because it's a digital camera, this probably the case. when i import my pictures and video from the camera to iPhoto, i can then put the video clips in a folder on my hard drive or desktop or wherever, and then just import them into FCE. i think the file type is AVI. for example, the clips all say MVI_00.74.AVI., so i'm assuming that's what it is. let me know if i'm wrong about that though.
