Hotmail and Mail Synchronisation: Deleted Emails

Hi Everyone, I purchased my first MacBook in September 2008, which is essentially the same as the MacBook Pro and I purchased it within the time it was called MacBook only! In September 2013, where I was operating my old MacBook on the newest system available, it crashed and wouldn't restart anymore - turns out the memory is broken and needs to be replaced (error noise and grey screen, when starting the MacBook). However, now I urgently need some Email and Photo data from that MacBook and therefore did an imaging of the harddrive in order to copy all the data and am now experiencing the following problems:
1. Hotmail Mails - After Synchronisation with the Mail application, all emails deleted themselves on the Microsoft servers online and therefore could not be synchronised from the hotmail servers themselves and is solely stored on my old MacBook. When I tried to open and find the data on the copied files on my new MacBook via a harddrive, I could not access the mail folder because it simply was inexisting within the Mail application itself - please can you help me find a way to restore those old Mail items?
2. iPhoto - I secured my iPhoto library with Macfort and can't remember what my Macfort password was

Log into your webmail on a browser and delete them from there.

I cannot open any of my Hotmail e-mail messages, delete them, look at other old ones, nothing. All I can do is sign in and that is it. I have tried deleting cookies, clearing the cache space, rebooting the computer, rebooting my internet connection, refreshing the page several times. Here is the thing. I can get on the page and read my mail, etc. like normal if i use Internet Explorer, but I prefer Firefox. The problem is Firefox and I rely on my e-mail for job purposes. I hope someone can help me!!!

Nevermind. I finally found a third party answer and will post it for anyone else with my problem.

  • Apple mail not deleting emails

I am on 10.6 and have tried deleting emails by either highlighting the email and hitting delete, or moving them to the trash, going to edit and emptying the mail trash. Sometimes this reduces the number of emails in Apple Mail, sometimes not. Most of the time it doesn't. No matter what I do, even though the email has disappeared from the inbox the number of emails in my inbox remains constant

Hi, is this a POP or IMAP acount?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
Reboot, then in Mail, highlight that Mailbox, then in Mail's Mailbox menu, choose Rebuild... any change?

I use more than one computer to access my four business email accounts. When one computer is on (and mail is open) emails do not get through to the other computers. This is fine, but how do I make one of the other computers the dominant one?

I assume these are POP accounts and all computers are set to remove from Server after downloading.
So on the non dominant ones... Mail Preferences>Accounts, highlight an account, Advanced tab, uncheck remove from Server, just have the main dominant one remove from server.
    Or get/setup IMAP accounts.

  • Mail and Address Book: Deleted email returns to Inbox

    Hello all and happy holidays...
That is until just a while ago, my Mail keeps receiving two similar emails (one with attachment) of Xmas Specials and offerings from one of the vendor/shop I visited. When I click on the mail itself, I just see the "loading..." in the message body, no pics, no text, assuming it is a large graphic-based or something email, *so I tried deleting them, only to have them re-appear again in the IN box.*
*I just simply can't get rid of them!* Every time I delete them, they disappear from the IN box, I click the Trash icon, they are there, I further delete them, and when I click back the IN box, they are back again
It has become an annoyance! I call the shop and they said their marketing dept will take me off the email list, but they can't help me on the immediate problem, *how to trash these email away permanently?* They actually ask me to call AppleCare Hotline...! Gosh, I know about AppleCare Hotline and they will go through you the 1001 steps to diagnose your system one step at a time, I just thought this is the vendor's "problem" and they should be able to fix the problem for me!
So anyone, hope someone's home and getting online here, if you know how to, please help.
Thanks a zillion and Merry Xmas!

Move the offending file to the Trash and make sure that Trash does not contain any files you may want to retain.
    Shut down Mail.
From the Finder click on Go>Home.
    Double click on the Library.
option drag the Mail folder to the desktop.
This should make a copy of the Mail folder.
Once you are sure that Mail is backed up, open the Mail folder in the Library.
Open the Mailboxes folder and open the Deleted Messages.mbox>Messages folder.
Drag any messages in the folder to the trash can in the Dock.
    Empty Trash.
Now reopen the Mail folder and locate the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 and the Envelope Index files and drag them to the desktop.
Next close all windows and open the Mail program.

  • How to to stop iPad mail from deleting email from server?

    iPad 64 / Custom mail
When I delete a mail from my iPad inbox, it is also deleted from my server. How do I configure
    To stop this?
In other words, I like previewing my incoming email on my iPod, and I want to be able to keep my iPad email in box tidy by deleting from my inbox without deleting from my server?
    Thanks for your hep, IM

Then you are both talking rubbish. IMAP is designed for multiple client access to the same inbox, and requires either POP3 collection, or explicit deletion from the server, to remove an email.
IMAP deletion should NEVER delete from the server, if you choose not to do so. I have a netbook and a desktop PC using the same inbox. The Netbook uses IMAP, the desktop PC uses POP3. I can delete a message from the Netbook, and it leaves the email on the server, for the desktop PC to collect via POP3.
From Wikipedia "E-mail clients using IMAP generally leave messages on the server until the user explicitly deletes them."
The way the iPad is handling it, is wrong... but then again, this is Apple we're talking about. They will no doubt patent this incorrect behaviour, and market it as a "new invention".

  • Mail:  Cannot delete email

    I have IMAC running 10.5.7
I have an email in my inbox.  When i try to delete it, the computer crashes (the pinwheel runs forever).  Probably a corrupt file.  How can I delete this?  Is there another file somewhere else on the computer where emails are stored and I can delete from there?

    Hi,
Likely it is Mail or disk corruption.
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Hotmail and mail

I'm using the "Apple Mail" e-mail programme to send and receive e-mail. As far as I knew any e-mail I sent was being received by the recipient if I did not get an undeliverable message back. Until recently I did not know I had a problem.
    Guess I was wrong.
I have just re-made contact with a friend in Spain. Apparently we have been sending each other e-mails for some time and wondering why the other has not replied.
My friend uses 'hotmail' and has not received any of my e-mails. Also, another friend in Canada has just told me of not getting an e-mail from me. There may be others. Seems I have no way of knowing.
Yet I occasionally do get e-mails from hotmail users!
A discussions forum mentions installing a "HttpMail Plugin Version Tiger 1.48 by Daniel Parnell". This I have done but the problem remains.
A review of dozens of the 'hotmail' related topics in 'Discussions' did not reveal a problem quite like mine. Maybe I missed it!
Any help will be most appreciated.

    Hello Peter.
Not too long ago this was reported by others using the Mail.app when sending messages to a Hotmail email address only.
No undeliverable email error message was received from the Hotmail incoming mail server indicating a sent message was not accepted by the server (which means it was accepted by the server) but the messages were not available to the recipient for download, not marked as spam and basically disappeared.
Many contacted Apple and Microsoft who quietly indicated/admitted to some this was a programing error at the incoming mail server (an Apple employee also informed me that Microsoft admitted to Apple this was caused by a programing error at the incoming mail server) which seemed to be resolved in a short period since I haven't seen the same reported here in a long time.
This is a Microsoft problem so you need to contact Microsoft or Hotmail technical support.

  • Keep Mac Mail from Deleting Emails On Server

I have 2 Yahoo! acc'ts linked to Mac Mail.
On the first acc't, after all my emails downloaded, I then deleted all the emails in Mac Mail (didn't need them). When I logged back into my acc't in Yahoo! (on browser), I saw that, there too, all my emails had been deleted.
I need to keep this from happening in my 2nd acc't. How can I delete the emails within Mac Mail, WITHOUT deleting the emails from the server?
    I'm using Mac Yosemite 10.10.1.

    Hi
You will have to look at a POP3 account that leaves the mail on the server.
I have not seen a setting in active sync that stop mail from being deleted. If you make a change on your phone it will update the mailbox.
Mails will be in the deleted items. How are users "accidently" deleting mail when you actually have to press the delete/trash button?

  • My iPhone mail app deletes emails from my hotmail. How can I get my MacBook Air mail app to do the same?

    Hi
When using Mail on my MacBook Air (I don't open it often), i receive hundrends of emails through it, even if those messages have been deleted from my iPhone/hotmail.
When i set up Mail on my iPhone there was an option that enabled deleted/read messages to also be deleted/read on hotmail automatically.
I can't work out how to join up my MacBook mail with this too? Anybody know what I mean and can help??
    Thanks

Comcast is POP email. I have it as well. POP email does not sync across devices. If I read an email on my iPad it will appear as unread on my Mac in the Mac Mail App when I launch it.That's how POP accounts work. The emails will not sync across devices.

  • TS3899 When I delete email the next time I open mail the deleted emails are back so I delete again. They come back sometimes at least 5-6 times. I have deleted the account and added it back and changed settings several times. What is wrong??

My emails keep coming back after being deleted up to 5-6 times. Why do they keep coming back every time I open my mail? I have deleted my email account and added back and also changed settings. It still does it.

Log into your webmail on a browser and delete them from there.

  • Hotmail and Mail on Mac

I read other posts on how to get the mail program to access hotmail. There are two users on my computer and I got it to work on one of the users but not the other. Do I have to do something else to get it to work for two users? Thanks!

Did you try deleting the mail account, then adding it back?   I've read a lot of times that is what needs to happen in order for it to work properly.
