Hotmail causing safari to freeze

Hi,
I am new to this forum do bear with me pls.
I have a new mac, and have tried to configurate the hotmail account to the mail progarmme on the mac. Three problems:
1. All of the files over transferred over to the mac from the hotmail account and have been moved from the inbox to the deleted folder in the hotmail ( not sure if this is due to other problems with hotmail?).
2. None of the emails in the my personal folders from the hotmail account have migrated over, just the ones in the inbox
3. Now every time I log into hotmail to access the personal folders the Mac crashes and hotmail freezes.
Help anyone? Pleeze I need some advice, at least how to save the folders from my hotmail account.
Thanks

  • Hotmail causing Safari crash

Someone posted that trying to forward or send an email from Hotmail caused a major crash in Safari. I went to check it out and can't find the post anymore! Anyway, darned if it isn't true. Completely froze up Safari. Needed a cold reboot to get things back and even then it stumbled a little. I'll notify Apple and Hotmail. Weird!

Your response does not make sense. The OP has a problem with Safari on his iPad. There are no plugins available for Safari on the iPad (or other iDevice).

  • My website causes Safari to freeze on OSX - PC works fine though!

    HI.
My web page (composed on Dreamweaver CS3) at http://kareltests.co.uk causes Safari running on Mac OSX (10.4.11) to freeze up if I try to close the window or navigate away. The page works fine otherwise, as does everything else. Only when trying to close the page, or navigate away, is there a prob. I then have to 'force quit' to get out. This behavioiur is something very new. The Mac is copmpletely updated, the last update being some weeks ago.
I've tried playing all the embedded videos through to the end to see if that makes any difference, but it doesn't. Restarting the Mac doesn't fix it.
I also tried emptying the cache and the window closed ok, but only once. The problem returned on re-opening Safari when going back to that page. Emptying the cache again doesn't clear it - that only worked once.
On a PC on any player, including Safari, there's no prob. Just on my Mac.
Maybe it's worth noting that I deleted a lot of redundant code (DW does like to generate a mountain of the stuff) but it's worked fine for months. Not any more.
    Any ideas?
p.s. just discovered that if I leave the page open for several minutes it closes ok.
This 'fix' has now worked twice, but it's hardly a solution, though it may provide a clue...?
    Many thanks.

    "12 Errors, 4 warning(s) "
Thanks. I know about that. The errors are small nit-picky things that can be ignored. Most of them are in the embedding coding supplied by the video hosts which the validator doesn't recognise.
For instance, http://apple.com generates "6 Errors, 1 warning(s)" And this forum page will give you "55 errors, 44 warning(s)"! Does that really mean I can code better than Apple?

  • Keyboard numeric pad causes safari to freeze.

I have an aluminuium wired keyboard, and since I downloaded the latest software update this week, the numeric keypad doesnt work, and casues Safari to freeze and i have  to force quit.  I have snow leopard. Any ideas?  I have a magic mouse which up till this week is my pride and joy!

I don't know about making Safari freeze, but if the numbers don't work, you may have the option to use it instead of the mouse turned on.
Check System Prefs > Universal Access > Mouse for the Mouse Keys ON button.

  • Why does the new OS X update cause Safari to freeze when adding a bookmark?

Just installed the latest OS X update and now every time I attempt to add a bookmark Safari freezes (Not Responding) and the color wheel just spins and spins until I force the program closed. OS X 10.9.5 / MacMini

Try installing OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 combo update.

  • Hotmail in Safari not working since Yosemite was downloaded

    Good morning.
I installed Yosemite (version 10.10.2) yesterday on my imac and since then cannot open Hotmail in Safari (everything freezes or once I got the message 'Safari can't find server').
I was normally login in to hotmail using dub125.mail.live.com
I have already cleared my search history. And one of the Apple chat help persons told me to do a safe reboot, which did not change anything.
Any idea what I should do?
    Many thanks!

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  • The fn/function key and Safari causing it to freeze! Help!!

Hi there, I'm a new user to Mac, just got my Macbook today. I have a problem with my safari. I was trying to group a few pictures together in a folder with the shift key but I accidentally pressed the "fn" key and some other key I'm not sure which and this has caused my safari to freeze, or rather when I click on any buttons or tabs it just gives me the error sound and it will not close. I've tried to restart or shut down my mac but it wouldn't let me because it says to shut down safari before I can shut down the Macbook. I've tried everything to try to shut it down but it can't because everytime I click on something on safar I just get the error sound! I can't even click to open a new window. I've been trying and trying and I dunno what is it that I did with the "fn" key thats made it this way! Please help! Thank you!

    Force Quit Safari
    Command-Option-Escape
    -OR-
    Apple Menu -> Force Quit
    -OR-
    Dock -> Option-Click -> Force Quit
If that does not work, then you can always power-off the Mac (NOT desirable, but sometimes it is needed, I just hope the Force Quit works). To power off, press and hold the power button for 5 to 10 seconds, and this will power off your Mac.

  • Safari always freezes

Safari constantly freezes up & I get the pinwheel.. the only way to reduce the pinwheel frequency is to open Chrome & minimize the page, then continue using Safari.. (Chrome is completely NON-usable for any other purpose since this started also)... this happens on just about every single webpage I try to view, from hotmail to facebook to google search page!
I have updated my Flash player, scanned with ClamXav (found 2 malware, since deleted), tried Memory Clean, but still the problem persists.. it started shortly after I installed the last OS X update..
Please if anyone has any suggestions that can stop me from going back to my WIndows laptop, I would appreciate the help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • When I use Firefox and Hotmail at startup, Firefox freezes for about 1 minute, and then I can continue. First I though it was my computer but 2 other girls in my class have the same problem with Hotmail and Firefox. What can I do to change this?

When I start Firefox, about 15 seconds after I start it, my Firefox freezes for about 1 minute. I found out that it is my Hotmail that makes Firefox freeze.
First I thought it was my computer, but I have 2 other girls in my class that use Hotmail and Firefox and their computer also freezes for 1 full minute.
This is very annoying, what can I do to change this?

  • Internet Causes Mac to Freeze Up

    SilSiliMac 27" (Late 2012)
    3.4 GHz Core i7
    32 GB DDR3-1600
    GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB
    OS X 10.8.3
    Safari 6.0.4
I was watching Netflix on the left side of the screen and reading about computer hardware on the right side, both using Safari. Then the screen froze and the cursor froze one second afterwards. I could still hear audio, but the computer was unresponsive: Force Quit didn't work, mouse didn't move, no keyboard input, etc. I held down the power button to force shutdown and then powered it back up again.
The same thing happened about an hour later. I did a full system scan for viruses and malware using two different utilities, both of which reported a clean iMac. I checked the hard drive with Disk Utility and got nothing. I started up using Apple Hardware Test (hold D while booting) and did a quick test which reported nothing. The full test, with 32GB of RAM, will take an entire day.
I have noticed this freezing up when watching video online, mostly through Netflix, but also through YouTube and Vimeo. I thought it was Safari, but I tried it with Firefox, Chrome, and Opera and they all end up freezing at some point. I can't tell how I'm making it freeze or how long it takes to freeze, but it happens when viewing video. It does not happen when watching video through iTunes - only online, regardless of playback method (Flash and   Silverlight both cause it).
I dual-boot Windows and do not have the problem in Windows 7.
I thought it might be a problem with my video card, but I can play FIFA and Skyrim for a couple hours without issue. I thought it might be a problem with Flash, but as far as I can tell Netflix uses Silverlight and that was what caused the initial freezes.
    Any ideas?

I'm not really sure what you're looking for. This is some of the lines from Console before the most recent BOOT_TIME. Then I pasted the contents of System Diagnostic Reports Kernel_2013_04_27 etc., but I don't know if that's what you're looking for. That report was awhile ago, so it doesn't seem like any of my recent problems have been recorded.

  • Safari regularly "freezes" with OS X Lion 10.7.4 ???

Recently updated to OS X Lion Version 10.7.4 and have had nothing but trouble with Safari ever since. From very slow loading pages to screen freezes and inability to scroll down on many websites, it's driving me crazy! Is is Safari? Is it my network? Is it the new operating system? I had a great Safari experience before making the upgrade and nothing but trouble ever since. Help!

    Hi...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that didn''t help, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
For Lion v10.7x:  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, from the menu bar again, click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then click:  Remove All Website Data
If that didn't help, might be corrupted Safari preferences (.plist)
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
Tip: Disabling the Lion "resume" feature will help to avoid caching issues in Safari.
    Open System Preferences > General
Deselect:  Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
If nothing above has helped, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
And try troubleshooting Safari unsupported plugins.  From the menu bar click Safari > Preferences > Security
Deselect: Enable plug-ins. Quit then relaunch Safari. If that made a difference, follow the instructions here > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
    ? Is it my network?
Recently updated to OS X Lion Version 10.7.4 and have had nothing but trouble with Safari ever since.
More than likely corrupted preferences,  OR, a plugin, or an extension that was compatible with the previous Mac OS X but not Lion v10.7.

  • Safari window freezing

After installing Lion on an older MBP with 2GB memory, which my wife likes to use to play non-action games among other things, the Safari window freezes from time to time loosing everything entered.  It does not seem to be any particular web page or any other noticable pattern.  Safari itself has not frozen, as one can open a new window.  She does not use tabs.  This did not happen with Snow Leopard.  Any ideas?

The culrpit could be a third party Safari add on that was compatible with Snow Leopard and the prior version of Safari.

  • Safari Keeps Freezing - help!

Safari on my i-Mac has started to freeze quite frequently. I have re-set it and as far as I am aware I have not uploaded any new application recently. I previously had a year of no problems whatsoever - any clues anyone?

    Hi bobj619,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
One thing I would suggest looking for if you are having Safari performance issues would be third-party add-ons. Please use the attached article as a reference and to help isolate and troubleshoot Safari. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

  • Why does Safari keep freezing?

When on Safari, it will freeze and the loading colored ball will come up and Safari will stop working. This happens every.. twenty minutes or every time I open a new tab. I can use any other program, and I have to Force Quit or it will just sit there. This has been happening for about a week. Please help, not even a year old Macbook. Thanks.

HI and welcome to Apple Discussions...
Please take a moment and click My Settings on the right side of this page. Tell us which Mac you are using and which Mac OS X. That way you have a forum profile set up which makes it easier for troubleshooting. Thanks!
As for Safari. If you have Safari Extensions installed, from your Safari Menu Bar click Safari / Preferences and select the Extensions tab. Turn Extensions off. Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference.
If you do not use Safari extensions, it could be Safari third party add-ons causing the "freezes" Go here for help with that. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
You can also try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari speeds up loading web pages, them move the .plist file to the Trash.
Check for duplicate or corrupted fonts, instructions here.

Make sure you have enough free space on the startup disk. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

  • IWeb widget causes Safari to quit.

I've had my own iWeb site for quite some time now and decided to add a widget to the home page. A simple music player created on Project Playlist. Now whenever I attempt to navigate away from the home page of my site Safari quits unexpectedly. I'm fairly sure that the widget is the cause of this because after removing it Safari behaves as it normally would. Is there anyone else that has this problem and is there a fix?
    Any help/comments is greatly appreciated.

Without seeing a Safari crash report it's difficult to say exactly what's causing Safari to quit.

How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If you haven't done so, run Disk Utillity in case the startup disk needs repairing > Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
Keep in mind a Mac running Panther has a much older version of Safari which may have problems accessing certain features on the web.
