Hotmail exchange account; "unable to verify account information"

When setting up my hotmail using Microsoft Exchange on the "mail" app I get; "unable to verify account information".
I've read many people stating this problem but not a single solution. Any ideas please?

Although hotmail is a POP account, you can use MS Exchange. I was using 2 hotmail accounts, both on Exchange and both were working well until a few days ago. Now both are working intermittently :-/ look around there are many work arounds, however, no full solutions.

Hi There. I was trying to setup a staff members work e-mail to a work iPhone 4. The e-mail is an Exchange e-mail. All the information is correct (e-mail spelling, username and password, Domain and Server, etc) but it keeps saying "Exchange Account - Unable to verify account information" Usually I just click Ok and it still gives me the options to select what I want to sync (Mail, Calendar, etc) and it still goes through. This time it doesn't work at all. Just saves the info I inputted and won't sync up. Any ideas on what's going on?

Did the user change their password recently?
A user complained about not being able to log in with correct credentials (on outlook 2010) while at home. His password had expired, and when he came in this morning, he changed it. We then tried to set up his exchange account on his iPhone, which gave us the "Unable to verify account information" message. When I learned of the password change, I looked in our Active Directory and sure enough, his account had been marked as "Locked". I unlocked it, and voila! He added his account without any further problems.
So in short, check Active Directory to see if the accounts of affected users are locked. If they are, unlock them.

It was under hotmail before they updated it. This is what it said when I tried a different one the pop server IMAP mail.outlook.com is not responding check ur network connection and that u have entered the correct information in the incoming mail server. I've tried different ways of doing it, it continues to say unable to verify account information

In the past 2 days, I had to change my hotmail password and now I can not use my hotmail on my iphone5. It gives me a hot mail account, unable to verify account information. I can log in fine on my pc. When i called apple, they said it was a microsoft problem, and microsoft says it is an apple problem and they don't support hotmail.

You stated that you CANNOT use the same password. That is incorrect. You CAN use the same password. That's it. Period. End of discussion. Your original statement was false.
But, let's humor you:
The fact that I DO use the same password for my account is proof enough for me. I am an Outlook user. I am fully aware that it was a CHOICE whether or not to enable Two-Step Verification. I chose not to use it.
Secondly, this particular Apple ID that I use is new, yes. I don't use my old one much on these forums anymore. Doesn't mean I'm new to the site. I guess you don't understand how Apple IDs work very well. But that's okay.
I did read the link that you provided. You apparently did not. The first part says 'After you've turned on two-step verification'. In other words, it is NOT the default setting. It was NEVER the default setting. It was something that the user had to CHOOSE to enable.
You actually have to sign into your account, go to Password and Security, and Edit security info.
You have to CHOOSE to turn it on.

I have a iphone and I have always been able to check my hotmail ( microsoft outlook) from my phone. Now when I tried to check my email I get a message OUTLOOK ACCOUNT UNABLE TO VERFIY ACCOUNT INFORMATION. I changed my password called the Microsoft support and spend $70.00 with them but the problem still is not resolved. What can I do?

Hi I m no tech wizz or anything your tags says that you have an iphone 4, ios 7.1. Well ios 7.1 can have a range of issues some people are lucky. Well to answer your question if you have updated and the email doesn't work but before it does than I suggest backing up all of your data and try to restore your iphone.

Our exchange accounts throw that error too, however, if you click okay and then save when it says "this account may not be able to send or receive emails. Are you sure you want to continue?" and then click save on the top right (exchange screen) and then save on the top right (exchange account screen) it should then give you "configuring sync" and drop back to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and then start to push email to you. Make sure that you have all of your account info correctly entered.

Problem with Fresh/New Exchange 2013 - Exchange Account, Unable to verify account information

For a client, i just setup AD (windows 2012 R2), and Exchange 2013 installed on Windows 2012 R2.
The AD is brand new, the exchange is installed correctly, i setup send connectors, and i could send and receive emails succefully.
But, when i want to use mobile devices like iphone, i receive the error as in title.
I've not changed anything from the default policies of Mobile devices policy...
What could be the problem?
how can i fix?

Hi Lasandro,
Agree with Dare, Exchange 2013 is not supported to run on Windows Server 2012 R2.
Exchange 2013 SP1 will add Windows Server 2012 R2 as a supported operating system for Exchange Server 2013 with SP1.

How do I get round this? I am setting up two identical iPod touch 5th gens, one of which has allowed me to set up the email, but the second one won't. Can anyone help me?

Hare you tried deleting the account for the problem iPod and reenter the settings? It is easy to make an error in the entering the settings but hard to find an error.

I have always had a hotmail account and have been using it on both my iPhone and iPad with no problem. Recently it asked me to set up 2 step sign in for security reasons which I did. I also changed my password at the same time. Now I cannot sign in. When trying to load my messages it says Cannot Get Mail The connection to the sever failed. Hi have the same Problem. I solved in that way: (also with skydrive)
Remove the Account from the iPhone.
Sign in Outlook.com directly with an Internet browser.
Create New Account On my iPhone.
Now it works. Also skydrive.

TS3899 Cannot get my shaw email to work with ios8 on iPhone 5c. Keep getting unable to verify account information

I have had my shaw email on my phone forever without problem. updated to ios8 on thursday and today i cannot access it. Password is correct but kept asking for it and saying it was wrong. Deleted the account and tried re-adding it and now i get Exchange Account Unable to Verify account information. I also tried adding it as other and same message. I went to shaw's info page but they have not updated for ios8 yet.

Thanks for your reply. I use Sky email which is managed by google. I have now deleted the account and set it up again and that seems to be working now. I'm still having problems just getting the Internet connection to work. I won't be taking on any more software upgrades in future until I'm sure that they are worth it.

I have had the same problem as yours on my Ipad after upgraded Procreate 2.01. My iOS is 7.04. I tried to find solution from internet for weeks. Fortunately, the problem was resolved a few minutes ago. It is very simple,
1. Lunch outlook.com to confirm you can access hotmail mailbox. It means your account is Ok.
2. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars.Delete your hotmail account from your device.(my device is Ipad)
3. Turn off your device, then turn on again.
4. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and create your hotmail account by tap outlook.com. Be sure the incoming mail server is pop3.live.com.
5. Waiting for validation.

Getting 'Unable to verify account information' when attempting to setup Hotmail account

I enabled two-step verification today on my Hotmail email account.   This is my one and only Outlook account and is my 'primary alias' which is correct.   I am able to retrieve email on my iPhone and Windows PC just fine - have logged in and out several times today on the PC with no problem.   However I now cannot get this account setup properly on my iPad, though it worked before today.   I get the 'Unable to verify account information' message when I try to set up the account new again on iPad.   (I was forced to try and delete and reset it up.)
Is this somehow related to the two-step verification?   If so I will remove it and go back to single sign in.   What do you advise for email on the iPad in this case?

Setting up Exchange Account: "Unable to Verify Information"

I'm trying to set up my work email on my phone. I followed the steps my IT guy told me to do exactly. All the account information has been double & triple checked, yet I keep getting this error message pop-up: "Exchange Account: Unable to Verify Information".
Settings:
Email: firstname.lastname@****.com
Server: webmail.****.com
Domain: (triple checked and have this correct)
Username: firstname.lastname
Passord: ***** (again, triple checked)
Use SSL: set to "ON" but I tried it "off" as well.
I have a passcode set up, so that's not the issue either.
I just updated my iPhone software. Turned it off, turned it back on. Deleted the Exchange Account and tried to set it up again, and nothing is working. One of my coworkers just got her's to work on her iPhone by following the same instructions... I don't have a clue what the issue could be. I think the IT guy is stumped as well, and he's over burdened at the moment so I don't know when I'll be able to get his help...
Can anyone help me?

Go to the OWA access on the web and verify credentials, also find out which version of Exchange this is (I am guessing not 2003 as that was before OWA)
Try substituting Mail for Webmail in the server address
Try this change with and without domain info.
Save the account in its various stages, I have had them fail to verify and then work.
