Hotmail/msn mail problem...

The past two days I've been unable to send email either through hotmail.com or msn.com. I have been able to receive email from both of these sources. A few minutes ago I installed my aol.com email data in the iPad email program and there I can receive and SEND email. Wonder if anyone else is having this problem? I just rebooted my iPad and that didn't help the problem.
I can send email through both of these MS email programs on my MBP so the problem if any seems to be directed only at my iPad.

My problem continues when trying to send email from my iPad. The problem occurs with both msn.com and hotmail.com. I get the following error message...
Cannot Send Mail
The user name or password for "SMTP:[email protected]@smtp.live.com" is incorrect.
This morning I went into System Preference (Mail) and under accounts went into "advanced" where I added under Primary Server which is "smtp.live.com"
Other smtp servers I added smtp.aol.com
After doing so, I am now able to send email via msn.com and hotmail.com from my iPad.
The "string" in the error message above seems hokey and a bit "addon". I don't know if my outgoing messages reflect that I'm using an AOL server, but I would prefer that they don't.
Strangely enough, I normally have no problem in sending email from my MBP, but occasionally I will get a popup when sending email there that asks what server I want to use. IF I do get that message, if I select my gmail account, the message goes right out.
I'm wondering if MS's Live mail doesn't like email coming from an Apple device?

Just got a Macbook Air and am getting to grips with the switch from a PC.
I've set up my hotmail account in Mail but it will only download emails up to 2007. I've had the hotmail account some years so have thousands of emails on it.
It's downloaded 1200 odd emails but just stops at that point and won't download any more.

After updating from Firefox 3.6.24 to 8.01 I could no longer access my Hotmail e-mail in My.MSN web page. I believe Firefox 8.01 doesn't support this capabilityl. If this is not true, how do I fix this problem?

After installing 8.01, I logged into My.MSN.com web page and my e-mail messages no longer dropped down into my Hotmail menu. I believe Firefox said 8.01 no longer supports this capability. I therefore did a system restore to go back to 3.6.24.
How can I view my Hotmail e-mail messages in my.msn.com if I upgrade to 8.01?

I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

ICS and Hotmail/MSN Server Deletion Issues

Hello all,
I am posting here after not finding an answer to my question. I am an active member on 3rd party forums and asked my question, but no help received.
Here is my problem. My hotmail/msn account will sync fine with my phone, but when I delete an email on my phone, it deletes the email on the server (well reloates the email to a POP folder). This was NOT the case with gingerbread. This is an account I share with my wife as our family email address, and it is not ok to delete it when my wife does not see it. It is also not convenient to move the email to a POP folder. I need to be able to delete emails locally on my phone only, with no deletion occurring on the mail server.
I have tried removing/reinstalling, using the hotmail app, and manually setting up the email account. With none of these helping I decided to bite the bullet and restore the phone....oh gawd, just a waste of 2 hours with setup.
Any help would be appreciated here, as my contact with Verizon yesterday yielded no results either. If any of this makes no sense please let me know.

MSN Mail on Ipad - Unable to verify account information?

I can not get my msn mail account onto my Ipad. I think I had similar problems when I got my iphone but I don't remember how I fixed it. Can anyone help? I believe I have the server wrong but I don't know what to use? POP3.live.com - mail.live.com - smtp.live ? The Ipad means nothing to me if I can't get me email. HELP!!!

I'm sorry. I think the only other thing I can suggest is to poke around microsoft's support pages. You stand a better chance there of finding a hotmail owner trying to access it on an iPad than finding a hotmail owner here.
I know i got a mail from them today about the changing of Skydrive to something else, so it's possible that their mucking about could be affecting things. I know when Yahoo was 'improving' their servers they'd cause random outages.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Why does exchange server work for MSN Mail on iPad and not on Mac Mini?

My MSN Mail works great on my iPad and iPhone but will not work on my Mac Mini? I input the same server address but it will not connect. I've even tried m.hotmail.com, etc. but not joy.
Any ideas please?

At the moment the only way to do this between a Mac and iPad with Outlook/Hotmail would be if you used webmail on the Mac. Anything you do in webmail would be shown on the iPad and vice versa.
It used to be possible with the free GMail to use IMAP on the Mac and ActiveSync on the iPhone/iPad which would have been the sort of solution you are looking for. Now with the free GMail you have to use IMAP on the iPhone/iPad as well (ActiveSync is no longer available in the free GMail). IMAP would sync the changes still.
Unfortunately as IMAP is not available for Outlook.com/Hotmail you cannot do the samething as a workaround.
You could get a free GMail account and have it collect all your Hotmail messages, then you could use IMAP on both.

How do I keep my Cox mail and MSN mail from all going into the same in box on Apple mail

I have a Imac and Mac Book. The Imac apple mail works great. I also have a Mac Book. The Apple Mail is set up the same as the Imac. The problem I have is that both Cox mail and MSN mail go into the same inbox on Apple Mail on the MacBook even though the accounts are separte. From what I see, the settings are the same as the Imac. I tried to reinstall the apple mail. No luck! Should I try again. Any ideas?

How do I get past "Unable to Verify Hotmail Account Information" on iPad2? Can't retrieve my Hotmail e-mails from my iPad, Help!

Bought a new iPad2 with wi-fi access. I am at home on my wi-fi network using iPad. Trying to add my Hotmail account to the iPad so I can retrieve my e-mail messages. When I try to add the Hotmail e-mail account to the iPad, I select Windows Live Hotmail on the iPad. I then enter my Hotmail e-mail address and Hotmail password in the iPad. The iPad then says Verifying. Then a box pops up saying "Hotmail Account, Unable To Verify Account Information". I spent about an hour on the phone with iPad support and they tried everything they could to no avail. iPad support said I would need to contact Hotmail support. I have learned that Hotmail does not have a support phone number that you can call, only a search area that is of no help. I am able to log onto my Hotmail e-mail account no problem on my regular computer. I was able to program my wife's Comcast.net e-mail into the iPad no problem and bring up her e-mail on the iPad. I can not get past the "Unable to verify Hotmail Account Information" message on the iPad. Frustrated, want to be able to retrieve my Hotmail e-mail messages from my iPad, please help! Thank you.

My hotmail was working properly until one month ago , then I do not what happens ... My mistake has been to cancel that account and try to re-load it... I am blocked at "unable to verify account details".

I´ve signed in with my hotmail in mail. Every time i open the program mail, my inbox comes up. How can i sign out, so other people cant read my mails, or so other people can check their mail? Anyone with the same problem? Please help, I´ve just bought my first mac, so I´m a bit helpless. Thanks

You can't "sign out." That's not how desktop email clients work.

Accessing msn mail using Apple Mail

I'm helping my father migrate to a mac and have been trying to configure Apple Mail so it can access his existing msn mail account. I've tried to locate the account settings on his "butterfly web browser" but cannot locate them. Can anyone help out?

if i click the 'server settings' button below that pulldown, i can type in 'services.msn.com' easily enough. but, in order to get my username to show, i change the authentication pulldown to 'password' and enter my username and password.
ok...that last bit is where it gets a little hinky. mine works just fine with authentication turned off. but, in the main view my outgoing server still shows my username after the colon.
also, make sure you configure the other tabs....especially the 'advanced' tab where you have to enable the account.
and, that the httpmail url is set to:

Can't re-add my Hotmail e-mail

Afternoon all!
After all the news regarding the hacking of Hotmail and info posted online, I changed my Hotmail password from my desktop which all went fine - I can log in using it and I have no issues.
However, now I cannot re-add the same Hotmail e-mail to my iPhone. I firstly, after changing my password, checked my e-mails on my iPhone to see if it'd automatically change my password or something (not sure if this was possible or not) but I got the message that the e-mail address or password for the pop account was incorrect. So, I went into settings and changed the password for that mail account and then tried checking my mail again. And again I get the message that the e-mail address or password are incorrect. So I repeat this process another 4 times before giving up in a huff. I delete the mail account entirely from my iPhone and try adding again but still get the same incorrect e-mail or password message.
My e-mail address and password that I'm putting in to make the account are correct, I even tried putting in my old password which didn't work either so I'm stumped as to why it's not working now. I've read other posts as to the correct way to set up a Hotmail account on the iPhone and I'm doing all that correctly so I just don't know what's going on! Grr!
Any help would be appreciated, cheers!

I have had the same problem. After changing my password on the computer everything was okay and then when I tried to use Hotmail on my iphone it came up with password or username was wrong. Tried re-entering the password a few times and still no change, then deleted account and added it back on manually but still the same problem. I can receive mail but not send, it's become really frustrating and I don't know if I should call the apple support line or if it should be someone from Hotmail I contact.
