Hotmail setup

When I attempt to setup Hotmail on my iphone 4, I get an error message that reads "Unable to verify account information". I have triple-checked my email address and password entries and they are correct. Please advise.

  • Hotmail setup in IOS6 does not have a "leave mail on server" setting

Since upgrading to IOS6 and iPhone 5 I noticed that my Hotmail account does not behave as it did before the upgrade.  Prior to the upgrade, Hotmail was set up as a POP3 service, with settings that allowed user to retain email on the server.  Thus, if you read or deleted email on the iPhone or iPad, you still had it on your Macbook or iMac.  With the new IOS, there is an option for an easier ADD Email for Hotmail.  If you utilize the easy setup, you get no choices in how IOS device handles your email - if you read you incoming email on the iPhone, the email is automatically grayed out as READ on the laptop.  If you delete the email on the iPhone, the email is deleted on the Mac.  There are no settings that allow you to modify the behaviour of the mail account, unless you delete the account and reinstall using the "Other" service.
Is this a "FEATURE" or was there a mistake made by Apple in how it manages Hotmail accounts?

Yup.  You have to use the "Settings"/"Mail Contacts Calendars"/"Add Account"/"Other" option to set up hotmail and then under "Advanced" options, set "Delete from server" to NEVER.
If you use the native option to set up your hotmail account, it will push all changes made on phone thru to server.

  • Hotmail setup problem

Anyone know how to setup the SMTP for hotmail in Mac Mail system.
Now I can only use the pop for hotmail and it's really a PINA when they don't sync the status between the mail and the server.

    Yep, do it again.
Look on your device to Options > Advanced > Service Books.
Scroll through and see if you have two Service Books, one [CICAL] and one [CIMIME], for the email address you've set up?
If so, do the reboot as I described, again.

  • Hotmail setup failure

    Hello,
Please help me. I have just bought an new 3GS and I tried to set up my hotmail.com account on it. I followed all the instructions, the iphone autopopulated the information fine, but when i click 'save' error messages come up. It either says that my 'username or password is incorrect' or just that 'the connexction to the server pop3.live.com failed. I have double-double-double checked my password and username. I have also checked that all the server settings are correct too. I've deleted, switched off, re-entered, switched off, deleted etc etc!
I emailed hotmail who said it may be an Apple problem.
    I'm stuck.
    Any advise is gratefully received.
    Thanks
    Jed

    Exchange is recently implemeted:
    iPhone Setup
The steps are similar for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. On a device that supports only a single ActiveSync profile, make sure to back up the data on the device before configuring the ActiveSync profile for Hotmail access.
    1. Tap on Settings. Under Settings, click on “Mail, Contacts, Calendar”.
    2. Tap on “Add Account” in the Accounts page.
    3. Tap on “Microsoft Exchange” to configure Hotmail access.
    4. Enter your full Hotmail email address in both Email and Username fields. Leave Domain blank. Enter your password. In the Description field, enter a name, e.g Hotmail. CLICK NEXT.
    5. Enter m.hotmail.com for the Server name.
    6. If access succeeds, you will see this page. Select the data to sync. Tap on Save.

  • Problems with Hotmail setup

    Hi!
I had many problems to setup hotmail. I've been trying so long. Now I found one way.
If you have problems to setup Hotmail account on Mail, see if your password is longer than they can support...
I don't know why. But I changed to a short password and now Mail on my Mac and iPhone can get mail from hotmail account. Does anyone know why?
    Thank you

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your wireless service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

Email shows gmail + hotmail. No acess to either inboxes. Driving me nuts any help kindly appreciated.

    Hi Captainlantern
I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here.  Do you mean that both your Gmail and Hotmail come to the same inbox?
    Thanks

  • Hotmail emails in my inbox on the server but will not show up on my iPhone?

Help - I have hotmail emails in my inbox on my computer but they will not show up on my iPhone.  I am using the "Windows Live Hotmail" option in the settings.  The specific emails are not marked as junk, still in my inbox, they are addressed to me, they span about 2 weeks with some as recent as 3 days ago and are all from 3 specific people regarding my sons baseball team.  I have tried deleting my account and setting it back up.  I've added the email addresses to my contacts to see if that helped.  I didn't have this issue when I used the generic pop 3 type of setup.  I moved to the Windows Live Hotmail setup so when I delete an email from my iphone it also deletes it from the server.  This is all working perfectly.  I don't actually log into the server very often and almost missed this email.  Thanks!
PS - this is an iPhone 4 that I have had for about a year.  I am on iOS 5.0.1 and the phone says it is up to date....

  • How to sync all Hotmail folders in Mail on iMac?

I have just purchased an iMac and am trying to set up my mail, but when I set up my hotmail account to Mail it only syncs the Inbox not the sub folders, is there anyway around this, as I have reverted back to using www.hotmail.com to check my emails.
    Thanks.

It sounds like you have your Hotmail setup as POP in Mail. You will need to add a new account as IMAP. Note, when you delete the POP account in Mail it will also delete the messages in the Inbox. You need to archive or move the Inbox messages to a folder before deleting the account.
The iPhone is connecting through ActiveSync (which is exclusively for mobile devices).
Since you are using [email protected], you might need to log into your account in Safari and add aliases for your email as [email protected] before creating the IMAP account.

  • Recurring blank email in hotmail account

    Hi
I have an iphone 3g and have my hotmail setup on my iphone. A couple of months ago i received a blank email in my hotmail account on the iphone. I deleted it on the iphone and yet i still keep receiving that same email everytime my iphone checks for email. It keeps appearing in between the same two emails down the list of emails i have, yet it has the latest time and date (i.e. when my iphone checks for new mail). Therefore i constantly have a notification of one new email on my mail app icon. Has anyone had a similar problem before and if so, how do i get rid of this email? i have removed it from the main hotmail server and tried to remove the account from my iphone and set it up again and yet it still comes back!
    any clues?

  • Can't get live mail of pop 3

    Can't get my
Mail on my live account keeps telling me to check pop3   ? But all settings seem ok ??

Just use the hotmail setup that is already in mail when you create the account. It's done all for you. Wouldn't use POP3. should be using a MAPI protocol

  • Problem with email (N97)

Recently, I have been receiving the "Problem with your email" message from Nokia.  I connect to my hotmail via Nokia Messaging.  The email says that it could be due to (1) change in password (no, I haven't), (2) server for email address is down (no, it doesn't seem to), and (3) I have changed a setting in my Nokia Messaging account (I have checked the website and no, I haven't changed anything).
New mails cannot be delivered.  And every time when it happens, I have to go to my hotmail setting in Nokia Messaging, enter the same password again.  The phone then verifies the "new" setting (same password) and then new emails are being downloaded.  It gets a bit tiring at times.  Anyone knows what I can do to fix this?  My Nokia Messaging subscription service is still on trial (it is active, I have checked).  I am thinking hard if I wish to pay for this service.
PS. Has anyone tried the hotmail setup that comes with the new Live Messenger?

    Hi juday,
I have uninstalled the Nokia Email and use the mailbox setup via the new Live Messenger instead.  Because I use Hotmail, it doesn't matter if I am using Nokia Email or anything else.  Beside, the mailbox set up by Live Messenger seems better than the default Nokia Messenging.  A lot more responsive and has richer functionalities (unless those are features that comes with the Nokia Messenging upgrade but I doubt it).
My feedback is, there are indeed intermittent problem with Hotmail.  But, unlike Nokia Email, this new mailbox will keep trying every 15 minutes to pull the email headers into the phone.  As for Nokia Email, it just stops dead unless I have the patience to keep saving the setting (like reentering the same password again and again).
The only drawback with this new mailbox created via Live Messenger is that it seems to drain lots of battery.  My phone has gone dead even before half a day is gone!
PS. I tried to reply to this thread via my N97 but I couldn't.  How ironic eh?  The log in screen kept appearing even after I have entered my log in credential.
