Hotmail Sluggish on Firefox 8

Hi, I installed Firefox 8.0 a couple of days ago and find that my Hotmail email is quite sluggish. Other websites that I use, including Gmail are fast. I'm using Windows 7 operating system.
I tried accessing my Hotmail email on Google Chrome and it's fast. I tried disabling some of the add-ons, but no luck. Is there anything I can do to correct this problem?
Thanks for your help!

Just providing an update on the issue I had with Hotmail being sluggish in Firefox 8. With the new Firefox 9 released on December 21, 2011 and its improved JavaScript performance, the problem with my sluggish Hotmail has been resolved.
Also, I'm glad to see that most of my add-ons (at least my main ones) are compatible, especially Norton 360 which I consider my most important Firefox add-on. You can check my [http://www.squidoo.com/firefox-web-browser Firefox Reviews] including Firefox 9.
I use both, Firefox and Google Chrome for different purposes and ran a [http://www.squidoo.com/firefox-web-browser#module155960335 Peacekeeper Browser Benchmark Test] to compare the performance of the two browsers. Overall, Google Chrome still outperforms Firefox.

    When I start Firefox, about 15 seconds after I start it, my Firefox freezes for about 1 minute. I found out that it is my Hotmail that makes Firefox freeze.
    First I thought it was my computer, but I have 2 other girls in my class that use Hotmail and Firefox and their computer also freezes for 1 full minute.

    2. Set '''Firefox will: Use custom settings for history.''' '''Insure Accept cookies for sites and accept third-party cookies''' is selected
    3. Click '''Exceptions'''. If the misbehaving site is in that list, select it and click '''Remove site'''

  • Hotmail, only in Firefox, does not function, chrome, yes, IE, yes, but not firefox--WHY?

    I have uninstalled all versions of Firefox, no matter-Hotmail loads, but when trying to open any email or part of hotmail, does not function. I have now added Chrome and IE and they have no probs with Hotmail!
    So, WTF?????

    It has been suggested that the Foxit Reader plug-in can cause problems with Hotmail. Try disabling it, reloading the page and see if it helps.

    I was using hotmail yesterday using Firefox as my browser. As I was typing an email the print kept getting smaller and smaller. All folders and text in the inboxes is now so small I cannot read it. My only alternative is to use Internet Explorer as my browser which is still working fine

  • I can't open my Hotmail account in Firefox

    I think I know what my problem is but I don't know how to fix it. I attempted to delete unauthorized contacts in my contact list on one of my Hotmail accounts, and I think I messed up the default settings. Since then, I've been unable to access the account even though I can sign into my other 2 linked accounts on Firefox and on the blocked one in IE. I've optimized the browser by following some of the suggestions here, but still no luck. I'm currently running version 3.6.17.
    How can I possibly restore the settings to this account if I'm unable to access it? I'm fairly certain this is the problem because this didn't happen before I tried to delete those contacts (which didn't have a delete option, obviously). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

    Same here, firefox cannot open any attachment, the page simply refresh itself or perhaps its not refresh but some kind of ajax. But NOTHING happens at all.
    Attachment downloads fine if I use IE though.

  • Unable to read e-mails off of Hotmail when using Firefox, but I can with Internet Explorer. Hotmail seems to be the only one I have trouble with.

    Having trouble doing different functions on Hotmail when using Firefox. Doesn't seem to be a problem with other sites. Also, no trouble using Hotmail when using Internet Explorer. This just started, yesterday.

  • If I try to log in to my Hotmail account in Firefox, Hotmail says my Hotmail account doesn't exist, while I can problemlessly log in in other browsers

    When I open Hotmail in Firefox and try to log in, Hotmail says my account doesn't exist. But I can problemlessly log in in other browsers, so I'm sure there's no problem with my account. Further, I'm absolutely sure I didn't misspell anything. Before this problem occured, I've always been able to log in to my Hotmail account in Firefox. I've already tried clearing my cookies and history, but it still doesn't work.

  • On my new computer, I can no longer open attachmnets in Hotmail when using Firefox. The attachments will open with other browsers. It is quite frustrating. Any help out there would be surely appreciated. Cheers

    Hotmail won't open attachments when using Firefox. I'm not sure if this relates to cookies, add ons (I recently addded Ad-blocker and Do not track), or some other type of security setting. I have tried some proposed solutions on the we to no avail. Using Windows 7

    Tyler,
    Thanks for your suggestion. My problem occurs when trying to open any type of file (at least .doc and .pdf, as far as I know). As I mentioned, when I log into hotmail from another browser, I am then able to open my attachments. I am hoping to figure out how to tinker with firefox so I no longer have this issue. I am not sure what is causing this block, but I know it has to do with Firefox (or settings relating to) or related add ons.

  • I cannot open my Hotmail emails from Firefox. I have been on the hotmail Help Forum and they suggest to use Internet Explorer. Does Forefox not support Hotmail now?

    Hi,
    I can log into hotmail but cannot open my emails or go to Sent items or anything. I have gone on the Hotmail Help Forum and MANY people are having the same problem. Hotmail say we should use Internet explorer and they do not really answer about using Firefox.
    People using Firefox 3 and 4 are having problems.
    Also, i downloaded Forefox 4.0.1 and it was not fully compatible with Kaspersky - has this problem also now been resolved?
    In summary - is Forfox 4.0.1 NOT comaptible with Hotmail and Kaspersky?

    Sorry, I can't help with Hotmail, beyond clearing the cache - I haven't used it for 11 or 12 years now. Surprising that a Firefox 3.6 version would have trouble there, as 3.6 has been around for well over a year and Hotmail problems are usually with a recent release of Firefox.
    IMO, if Hotmail support can't help you with Firefox issues on their website and can only recommend using IE, maybe it's time to change web mail service providers. My advice is to signup with a different web mail service, one that takes Firefox seriously. Then set up forwarding in your Hotmail account to have all your Hotmail emails forwarded to that new account. Then slowly transition your email contacts over to the new email address over time. As long as you log in to Hotmail every month or two, your account there should stay active and emails sent there should get forwarded to the new email account. I have done that three times in the last decade, and the first one I transitioned from was still forwarding email thru the two intermediary accounts to my current account until last summer when that service finally changed owners and they wanted all new accounts set up or transitioned to their new software - which I didn't do - and I hadn't even signed into my account there in over 4 years and "forwarding" was still working.

  • Can't login to hotmail on only firefox - "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later."

    I have cleared cache and cookie and keep getting this message when i try to log into hotmail. Only happens in Mozilla, not other browsers. "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later."
    It's been 10 days and nothing works.

    It is possible that the <i>cookies.sqlite</i> file that stores the cookies is corrupted if clearing cookies doesn't work.
    Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • Hotmail Frozen in Firefox; Not Frozen in Internet Explorer

    I've always been able to use Hotmail in Firefox with no problems whatsoever. And it was fine just a few hours ago. But when I tried to log back in after having had my computer off due to a power outage, I had problems with Hotmail. I can log in fine, but when I get there I can't do anything. It's completely frozen. The only button that will work is the logout button. But upon clicking to logout, it tells me it can't log out. It tells me I don't have cookies enabled, even though I do. I don't have third party cookies enabled, but I've had third party cookies disabled for awhile now and never had issues with Hotmail. I can get into Facebook, no problem. And I can get into Hotmail with Windows Internet Explorer and nothing seems to be frozen there. I just hate IE so much, especially since I'm used to AdBlock Plus. Please fix this if you can soon! I saw in the Windows Live forums that someone else had this issue on April 7 and all the Windows person could tell him was to contact Mozilla. How irritating and unhelpful. I tried restarting my computer to install Windows updates; they installed, but that didn't fix the problem. I have had it fail to sign out before as it does here and I don't recall how or if that was resolved. But I've definitely NEVER had Hotmail frozen while trying to view my messages. I have the stop script thing all the time with Hotmail and even that has never caused anything to freeze, to my knowledge. Thank you for your help! (I tried several times to use the Report Broken Website thing from a Firefox browser, but it wouldn't submit the report.)

  • Drag layers moving sluggish in firefox

    Hi, I'm working on a web site here:
    http://www.cssdreams.com/sites/searchinfo/homepage.html
    And (haven't tested in IE6, but IE7 mind you) for some reason
    you can drag the maginfying glass around just fine in IE, but it
    moves rather sluggish and choppy in Firefox 1.5.
    Any JavaScript experts have a solution?

    Unfortunately... I've also noticed another glitch in the
    process of trying to fix this. :-(
    I didnt want to use that somewhat lengthy script for fixing
    the PNG-alpha problem in IE6, and instead I resorted to using this
    smaller script which does the same thing:
    <img src="images/spacer.gif" style="height:351px;
    width:300px; filter:
    progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='images/mag-glass2.png',
    sizingMethod='scale')">
    Problem is, when its coded like this:
    <!--[if lt IE 7] -->
    <img src="images/spacer.gif" style="height:351px;
    width:300px; filter:
    progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='images/mag-glass2.png',
    sizingMethod='scale')">
    <!--[end if] -->
    <!--[if IE 7] -->
    <img src="images/mag-glass2.png" height="351" width="300"
    alt="" />
    <!--[end if] -->
    The PNG seems to no longer even render inside of Firefox,
    seems like its covered up, or beyond the visible area or something.
    http://www.cssdreams.com/sites/searchinfo/homepage.html
    But if I reverse the code, like this:
    <!--[if IE 7] -->
    <img src="images/mag-glass2.png" height="351" width="300"
    alt="" />
    <!--[end if] -->
    <!--[if lt IE 7] -->
    <img src="images/spacer.gif" style="height:351px;
    width:300px; filter:
    progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='images/mag-glass2.png',
    sizingMethod='scale')">
    <!--[end if] -->
    then IE7 acts like it still suffers from the peekaboo bug,
    and half of the page vanishes!!! >:(

    Starting about mid-day yesterday, when I sign into Hotmail using Firefox, I can get to my inbox but I can't open any emails or go to any other folders.
