Hotplug, hwdetect ? what are those lines at bootup :s ?

Hi all,
I'm just new to the Arch world after running Debian and Gentoo for 3 years and I think I found the distro I was looking for. Anyway, I'd like to speed up a little this boot as I did for gentoo with initng for example. I read some interesting informations on hwdetect which can replace hotplug so I did it Anyway it works (seems to by the way ) but as Arch boots, I still get these lines about my hardware you know, just before Arch Linux "logo" appears and then all the scripts indicating done when they did their task. I thought these lines were providing by hotplug but since I "replace" it with hwdetect, I don't understand from where they come Which script/program ?

It also takes a few seconds on my Pentium M 1.7GHz. You could try the initrd kernel in testing with a custom initrd26.img. It's smaller than the one in [current] repo so it should boot faster. To do so, enable the testing repo in /etc/pacman.conf. Also it would be better to move it at the end of the other repo if you don't want to use the other packages in testing. Then:
# pacman -Sy testing/kernel26
# pacman -Sy testing/mkinitrd
Don't forget to read the instructions in the wiki.

What are those apps which are promoted on " why you 'll love your ipad " page. I mean there r some pictures of ipads , and i'm really curious about that apps which are in the screen, cause i 'd like to try them.

Most likely because they are not apps. They are background processes the OS is runnning.
I would expect as the owner to have  some sort of explanation of who the 3rd party is, why there apps are apprearing on your ipad without permission, and maybe the ramifications of taking off or at least turning them off.  Its not rocket science, people.  It really about our rights as pople, right???
I suggest you sell your iPad and not worry about it any longer.

  • How To Handle Tickets and What are those

    Hi Everybody,
Can anybody tell me, How to handle tickets and what are those.
    srinivas

    Hi,
Tickets are basically assocaited with Production support type of work.
Tickets are nothing but the medium through which problems reported either in the system or by users to the Production support team.
There are certain problem management tools that every organization uses (tickets are created and worked on using those tools). There are tools like Vantive, Remedy, CASE, etc.
Usually the helpdesk gets the first contact for any user problems and then they log a ticket with the appropriate support teams. The support teams then pick up those tickets and work on them till they are resolved. There are tickets created for user problems or any batch job failures, system failures, etc.
Tickets are usually classified as Critical, High or Low and again they are categorized as High Severity, Medium Severity or Low Severity. All these types of tickets have SLAs (Service level agreements) for the Support teams to respond and the resolve the tickets in.

  • What are those checkboxes?

Hello. What are those little checkboxes next to the song titles, and what are they used for? What's the difference between checking the box, and selecting the song by clicking (highlighting) it? Has Apple published an article that answers my question? I can't find any explanation for them. Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms. Thanks.

If you have an iPod you can choose to "sync only checked songs and videos" rather than your entire library.
I use it to keep a few audio books on my iPod rather than my entire collection. I like to keep almost all of my music on my iPod, but there is some stuff I don't want on my iPod all the time (interviews, some lossless stuff) I use it so certain songs don't sync to my iPod. It's the same with TV Shows and Movies-- I definitely don't want all of those on my iPod at all times-- they take up way too much space.
You can also use the checkboxes in playlists-- when you create a new playlist, there's an option to "Match only checked items."
Unchecked tracks will be ignored when playing from your library (though they will play if you specifically select one of them).
Unchecked songs won't be burned to CD.
Genius and iTunesDJ don't take checked songs into account.
    I think that's it.

AE what are those things that turns on and off in the Project

I had was $1,000 credit in September of 2014.  In October, I called Digital Juice, because I had a stroke 25 years ago and I told him I would be foolish to give up $1,000 and join Platinum Account.  He agreed with me. He then said why don’t you join Platinum Account, and he can update the $1,000 to the account.  I said, OK.  Then about January 2, $1,000 was in the Platinum Account.  I am starting to do some Wedding videos, and I just noticed that the $1,000 credit wasn’t there. What happened to my $1,000?  Oh by the way, your Update Status only goes back to December and not back to July.

  • What are my line stats like. Good or bad?

    Hi there,
I've just recently changed ISP to BT, within the last couple of days.
I know I'm still probably in my line training state.
Using the supplied BT Home Hub 3.
    My stats so far are:
    ADSL Line Status
    Line state:    Connected
    Connection time:    2 days, 01:46:58
    Downstream:    2.531 Mbps
    Upstream:    448 Kbps
    ADSL Settings:
    VPI/VCI:    0/38
    Type:    PPPoA
    Modulation:    G.992.1 Annex A
    Latency type:    Interleaved
    Noise margin (Down/Up):    6.6 dB / 24.0 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up):    45.4 dB / 29.0 dB
    Output power (Down/Up):    18.1 dBm / 12.3 dBm
    FEC Events (Down/Up):    369092 / 122
    CRC Events (Down/Up):    1961 / 90
    BT Speedtester results:
    Download speed achieved: 1793 kbit/s
DSL connection rate: 2592 kbit/s Down and 448 kbit/s Up
    Upload speed achieved: 308 kbit/s
I'm hoping to get my Downstream speed around 3 megabit/s or better.
But so far I'm still lucky if I'm above 2.5 megbit/s.
As you can see my line has been stable for the first 2 days of connection, not sure if it should have dropped a few times as my line is being trained/tested?
With the stats I have posted, should I be waiting for a faster connection?
Or is this all my line can handle?

I've just got home after a day out and I just noticed my speed (bandwidth) has dropped a little.
So I logged in to my HH3 and I noticed that it had a different connection time.
I was at something like 6+ days, but now back down to 0 days and a few hours.
Q:  Will this have affected my 10 day line training?  So am I back to waiting for another 10 days, before my line speed (hopefully) increases?
My routers log (when the connection dropped and then back up):
    09:45:11, 27 Jul.    (679519.170000) DSL is up
09:45:09, 27 Jul.    (679516.850000) DSL noise margin: 24.00 dB upstream, 6.60 dB downstream
09:45:09, 27 Jul.    (679516.790000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 2496 Kbps downstream
09:44:41, 27 Jul.    (679488.900000) Server URL: https://pbthdm.bt.motive.com; Connecting as user: ACS username
09:44:34, 27 Jul.    (679482.610000) DSL is down after 11119 minutes uptime
09:44:33, 27 Jul.    (679481.290000) PPPoA is down after 11119 minutes uptime
Nothing of interest found before this, well no reason why it dropped out.
    Thanks in advance.

  • What are "Connection Lines"?

The menu option, Insert>Connection Line always seems to be grayed-out. I haven't found any reference to this feature in the help file. What I'm seeking is a way to draw a line between some text in a text box and a cell in a table on the same page?
Does anyone know what "Connection Line" is and under what conditions it is enabled? More importantly, is there a way to draw a line as described above?
    Thank you for the help.

Connection lines are between text boxes and are only available in master layouts.

  • "Other Files" on Touch? What are those?

So, after synching my Touch 2G - I just noticed that aside from apps, movies, songs and photos I've got an extra hundred MBs of "Other Files" -- I'm just wondering what those files are and how could I access them.
I tried ruling out as good as I could by cleaning up the emails, removing all files I have saved via an App called AirShare, but all that just dropped it by 0.6 MBs, which leaves me with an abundant 100MBs of which I'm not sure where it could have come from...
With the my old 30gig iPod pre-classic, I could access and see the file folders etc, is there any way I could do the same with the Touch?
    Thanks in advance!
    /s0l

"Other" would be calendars, album art, contacts, etc. Some space will be taken even if you don't have any calendar entries or contacts, album art can take up quite a bit depending on the resolution of the files.
If you have a couple hundred MB this is not excessive. If you get into GBs you can eliminate them by doing a Restore then Resync.
There is no disk access on the Touch.

  • Would I find it of use ... and what are those 2 little pins ?

Hi all ... in the photographs of the AE there are 2 pins poking out from the top end of the unit facing away from the camera ... is this a US telephone connection ? and if so what does the UK AE come with ? Where does it get it's power from ?
I have a wireless router (Netgear) which reaches far enough around the house for my PB and I'm not too fussed about the imusic playout facility so would the AE be of any use to me (I thought I could take it to Spain in the summer as the hotel we go to only has a telephone socket in the reception area ... so maybe I could plug the AE into that (it will exclude other users from that socket though)!
Sorry this is going on a bit ... I'll shut up now .... thanks for your time ... Roger

No problems Roger - but Ive slightly shortchanged you with my answer by implying that you can only use it in a hotel in Spain if they have wireless.
Of course if the hotel has wireless internet, then you would actually just use the Airport Card in your laptop to access their network.
The reason for having the Airport Express is if they don't have wireless. If the hotel provides broadband internet access via an ethernet cable in your room, you can plug their ethernet cable into your Express and then the Express into the electical outlet and have your own wireless network running.
The advantage with this is being able to have your PB where you like in the room and not stuck in the corner of the room with cabling a foot long.
