Hotspot does not work in Safari

The following page works OK in IE, but NOT in Safari. Any
ideas why, please?
http://www.gardensoflondon.co.uk/gardens_public_map.htm

Not what. Why? Which is what the poster asked and I had
already correctly answered his/her what is wrong question in
another thread:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=12&catid=189&threadid =1393939&enterthread=y
Which is why the answer was terse, accurate, and precise.
The code should have been usemap="#map" and not usemap="#Map"
as the identifier (id attribute) is used in XHTML 1.0 Strict and
not the name. Giving the name attribute the same value as the id
attribute is probably wise.
It should be noted that the document is XHTML 1.0 Strict
which means we are dealing with stricter rendering modes in
browsers that properly implement the standard. Looking at the
standard we can even note that the name element is formally
deprecated:
http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/REC-xhtml1-20020801/#h-4.10
Beyond which in section C.8 we can note that in XHTML
references are always to the id element:
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/#C_8
This same section also notes that it is wise to use the same
value for name and id attributes for backwards compatibility while
noting the name attribute will go away (it is Formally Deprecated).
Going back to the question asked one can see that the page
works OK in IE but not in Safari because of a bug in IE's XHTML as
Safari (and Firefox and Chrome) render it correctly and cannot find
an element whose id is "Map" when the map has an id of "map".
Leaving us with the conclusion that this has everything to do
with doctype and case sensitivity as in XHTML #Map and #map refer
to different identifiers and the fact that #Map references #map is
a bug in IE.

The issue is here -
The image is telling the browser to use a map named "Map" but
no such map
exists on the page.
Change this -
usemap="#Map"
to this -
usemap="#tooltip"
This has nothing to do with case or doctype.

  • Adobe Flash Player does not work with Safari. What can I do?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro, Retina, 15 inch, late 2013,  2 GHz Intel Core i7, using OS X 10.9.4. I have installed Adobe Flash Player. In my System Preference, in the advanced settings, it is set to install updates also tells me that I have the NPAPI Plug-in (version 14.0.0.145) installed but not the PPAPI Plug-in. Is this the reason why it does not work with Safari (keeps telling me to download the app, which I did but still does not work)? Is there any way I could fix the problem? Please, help.
    Thanks.

If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Personal Hotspot does not work after update to 10.10.2

    Good morning!
After my update to 10.10.2 on my MBP (15" mid 2010) my connection to the internet via personal hotspot (iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.3) does not work.
The MBP connect to the hotspot, but there is no connection to the internet. My iPad (Retina, iOS 8.1.3) works fine simultaniously with good bandwidth.
Rebooting Mac, rebooting iPhone etc does not work.
    Anyone else has this problem?
    Any suggestions?

Just saw same problem with a client's computer.
    MacBook Pro
    WAS 10.5.1.
Installed 10.5.2, booted up. Fire up ichat, get your buddy list. Double click a name, says "Cannot Chat" in bold then says "Add at least one person to this chat before sending the first messsage." with an OK button.

  • Text entry boxes in CP6 - Enter key to validate input does not work in Safari?

I'm using Captivate 6 to create a step by step walkthrough of some different processes that are commonly completed in my workplace. Some of the example processes have portions where text is entered to simulate a process the end user might need.  I have text entry boxes in these slides that require validation of the input to move along, with Enter used as a shortcut key. This works great in Firefox, Chrome and IE all the way down to 8....but if the course is run in Safari, the enter key does nothing.  Is this a known issue?
Additional info: For many of these text entry boxes, the point is that it is a search field that has a little binoculars icon next to it that executes the search in the actual software we are simulating. For these slides I actually have the submit button associated with the text box made invisible (no fill, no stroke) and placed on top of the binoculars icon. This is an acceptable method of doing the task we're demonstrating, and just so happens to be a workaround for the enter key not working in Safari. However, a few places we have text entry that doesn't have the search/binocular icon next to it because there is a different goal on that section of the software we're visualizing. In those cases, there is no place for me to put an invisible submit button, and I can't make the submit button visible because that's not how the software we're demonstrating would work (thus defeating the purpose of the training).

Sorry, this is a known bug with no fix available yet, but the makers of SwiftKey are aware of it and we will work with them to fix it: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=617298
For now, the only solution is to use a different keyboard when using Firefox.

  • Wireless keyboard does not work with Safari.

Space bar does not work when using Apple Wireless Keyboard with Safari to fill web forms.
    No problem with Firefox.
    Early 2008 iMac, 10.10.1, 6GB Ram

Im going to assume you are using the Apple Wireless Keyboard with your devices.
Whats probabaly happening is both of your devices are trying to connect to your keyboard at the same time and it is causing it to not function properly.
I suggest you disable bluetooth on the device you AREN'T using and try it again with the one you ARE using.
If this doesn't solve your issue, try re-pairing the keyboard with the iPad you wish to use it with. It may have just not made a strong connection.
    Hope these suggestions help!

  • Message shortcut key does not work in Safari

    Hi there,
I've a shortcut key specified for sending links through Message app while I'm in Safari. (Command + Ctrl + M).
It appears in the system preferences and I can even see the shortcut symbol in Safari but it simply doesn't work. I has worked randomly for sometime but does not work anymore. (Changing the keyboard combination hasn't helped either)
    Any idea ?

    Hi,
Try shutting down the iMac. Disconnect the keyboard. Wait about 5 minutes. Reconnect the keyboard and restart the iMac. See if the Return key works now.
If not, since it's so new, take the keyboard back for a replacement.

  • Is there an update for faulty Adobe Reader plug in on FF for Mac? Plug in page says unstable. I deactivated mine. FF does not work. Safari is fine.

    Has problem been corrected?

No Adobe is not going to update the plugin for Mac and it does not work. Here is an explanation about how to get the files to open in Adobe Reader instead - [[Opening PDF files within Firefox#w_pdf-files-are-blank-and-cant-be-downloaded|PDF files are blank and can't be downloaded]]
That article, [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]], also has more information about reading PDF files inside Firefox. You can use:
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/pdfjs/ The new PDF viewer extension]
    *[http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/ The schubert-it PDF plugin]
Read the article though because these things will not work with each other.

  • Scrolling does not work in Safari

I am using Safari 4.0.5 and I cannot use the mouse scrollwheel to scroll pages, scrolling works fine in any other program ( including other browsers ) but in Safari it does not seem to work.
I have tried to update my drivers for the mouse, which is by the way a standard Dell mouse, but that has not helped either.
Tried to play around with the settings for the mousewheel but that did not change anything either.
    Anyone ?

    Hi,
From Safar's main menu click Edit/Preferences.
Click Reset Safari. Relaunch Safari and see if that made a difference. If not, go back to Edit/Preferences and click: Empty Cache.
Also, if you have any third party scroll enhancing softwware installed, that could be the problem.

  • Wordpress Quicktags does not work in Safari

Wordpress is one of the leading blogging software applications. Safari, however, has been real bad about supporign it properly. For instance, Safari does not allow one to see Wordpress' quicktags. This means I have to use Firefox. What gives? This bug has existed for quite a long time.

    Hi Thomas
    Have you seen this?
It links to a German language page which explains how to modify two lines in a wordpress file , after which ( say the writers- I haven't tested it ) the quicktags will work.
    I don't know for sure if that's what you're referring to ?
edit It's in English on wordpress's site

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion 'Add Bookmark Here' does not work in Safari

Hi, since upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion, Safari does not add bookmarks to a folder on the Bookmarks Bar using the Add Bookmark Here sub menu item.
The dialogue for adding the name of the Bookmark appears but I have to click OK twice and the bookmark does not save.
Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this bug?  Thanks...

Thanks mejudy that worked!  Much appreciated
I also tried removing the Bookmarks.plist file from the Safari library and restarting Safari.  I then quit Safari, copied the file back and now the Add Bookmark here sub menu has gone altogether.
Is that how its meant to be in Mountain Lion?

  • Autofill autocomplete does not work in Safari on 3gs since ios 6.01 update

I have tried many fixes but cannot get autofill autocomplete to work on Safari since ios 6.01 update. Any other fixes?

I also have the same Exact Problem, only your explanition appears more technical and understandable. This problem appears more severe on YouTube.com videos and alike, however it is also severly choppy and problematic on other sites. Surprisingly Live Broadcast videos work better than not Live videos, however this is not something I'd like when my data isn't throttled yet. I crosstested it to see if there is any issues on my iPhone 4S (iOS 6, last version) and Galaxy S4 (Android Kit Kat, last version on S4) and there is no issues on those devices so it is an iOS 8(+0.1/0.2) and iOS 8.1 problem and I am 100% confident about it.
I do think it is the video player's problem with Websites and Webstreaming. There is no problems playing music videos on my device's storage. I didn't get that many error messages but it just doesn't play properly on Safari and Chrome, like what you are experiencing too. I may go ahead and report it too because it is gotten to a point where it is annoying to watch videos. It is not just an over 4G (+ or - LTE) only issue, it is also via Wifi even so it is a tad better. I can't tolerate playing a video 15 seconds in, have to wait 15 more seconds for it to play, it plays to 0:35 then I have to wait 15 more seconds. Even a 240p video, it does it so, it is clearly not a tolerable bug. I don't have a work around so far (tried everything from reset to wipe the phone and reinstall all the apps).
My Device is an iPhone 6+ with iOS 8.1 (yes, it is not just exclusive to the iPhone 5S. I assume it also effects the iPhone 6 based on technical specifications).
