Hotspot like Dial Up connection

I want to know why when I have 4-5 bars of service on my Iphone 4s and I use the personal hotspot to connect to the internet on my laptop, the internet connection is so slow it's like being on a dial up connection. I had the HTC EVO before I bought the Iphone 4s and used the personal hotspot on it to connect to the internet on my laptop and it was great. Very fast worked seamlessly. The hotspot connection on the Iphone *****. I have the same service I had with the HTC EVO and am in a different spot and have more service bars now then I did with that phone and I swear I'm using a dial up connection now...

Upgraded to Firefox 8.0 . . . dail-up lasting a bit longer, but still disconnects.
It seems like nobody is able to help me.
Perhaps the Firefox developers don't care about dial-up users.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • I lost the dial up connection dialog box. I unchecked a check item in the dial connetion box. How do I get the dial up connection back?

I established a dial up connection by updating to automatic the remote managers and telephony in administrative tool services area on my XP system according to firefox help instructions.
At first I had a dial up connection but I unchecked an item in the
dial up connection box. I am not sure what I unchecked or toggled
off. I then lost the dial up connection. I need to get the dial connection dialog box back. What needs to be done
    Thank you.

I see no direct connection.. a printer and the computer setup for internet are not related.
But it sounds like the router in the wife's office is now in the wrong mode..
If you have an existing main router replace the second router for a switch .. that is the easy way.
Otherwise you need to bridge the router if it has that option.. most do not. Or use wan bypass.. where you turn off the dhcp server in the router and fix its ip to match the range of the main router.. this is the hassle of using router as a switch.
BUT I am making a huge number of assumptions.
What I need is the full network layout.. a quick picture would help.
I need main modem.. main router.. (maybe same box or different).. make model and current IP address and how dhcp is setup.
I need secondary router.. if that is what it is, IP and settings.
I want the printer type and model. How it is connected.
BTW I much prefer to see a network printer plugged into the network rather than usb.. it is only a matter of sorting the IP settings and driver pointing to the network rather than local.
Or you should think of it as a broken washing machine and call the technician.. who could fix the whole lot in an hour.

  • Changing/Adding Numbers to the Network/Dial-Up Connection Thing-a-ma-bob...

I would like to do this:
*Put these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers...*
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
But I am scared to death to try. I get connected without a hitch now, and I do NOT want to disturb that!!! I don't know what I am doing with this, but if it will improve the speed and stability of my dial-up connection so I can successfully download and install my updates, I will risk it.
How much chance do I have of messing my connect-ability up altogether?
And how do I go about doing it properly?
    Cyan

99.999999% safe and easy to undo, but to make it even nearer 100%...
In the Network Pref Pane, choose the Location drop down, choose Edit Locations, then choose Duplicate... now you have one you can paste those numbers into, and just switch Locations back if need be without changing any numbers.
    It's safe though anyway really.:-)

  • Flash accessing the Dial Up connection

I'm new to the forums, so hello to everybody.
I've got a project on my hands, an interactive kiosk. I've created the interface in Flash, but I have some issues I can't get past. First of all, I want to create an emergency call feature, where the user presses a button and the kiosk dials the emergency number (112 for Europe). Now, how can I make the Flash movie call upon Windows' dial up connection, dial a number, establish a connection then disconnect? I know that Flash can't use Windows services directly, so how can I accomplish this?
My second issue is that I also would like to create a photo-shoot system, where the Flash movie takes a snapshot from the webcam, saves it as a file, then the user needs to input his email address and the file is sent by email as an attachment.
I hope I've been clear enough. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • How do I establish a dial-up connection in Labview to FTP files (I have the internet connectivity toolkit)?

I'm writing an application that will automatically update files on a server, using the internet toolkit's FTP vi's. It works fine with a LAN, but I'm not sure how to establish a dial-up connection via a telephone modem.
Ultimately, I'd like the program to dial-up, connect, ftp files, then hang up. So far I have used AT commands through the serial compatiblity vi's to dial up and logon to a local internet provider. The provider then spat out an IP number and an MTU number (1524), followed by periodic spurts of garbabe.
Any help in getting to the next level would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Tom

    Tom,
You CANNOT dial-up to the ISP using the Internet Developers Toolkit. The toolkit assumes you already have a valid TCP/IP connection. However, many web browsers such as Netscape and Internet Explorer have auto-dialing options that will start dial-up networking automatically when you launch your browser. The only trouble is that the auto-dial wizards can require the user to push buttons, but there is a Shareware program called DUNCE which will take care of the button pushes for you in the auto-dial wizards so the user does not have to intervene in the dial-up process. You can recommend to the customer that the lauch their browser from LV and then have the browser configured for auto-dial and that should take care of the problem. I did not actually try this o
ut myself, but in theory it should work.

  • Sharing a Vista Dial up connection with a Mac wire wirless connection

I have a problem i would like to share the internet connection from my wifes PC (dial up connection) with my mac book pro via wireless connection between each computer. Now it works ok (after fiddling with firewall on PC) when we have the dial up connection on the mac and use the wireless from the PC to access the internet the same time. but it does not work the other way. I tried to allow sharing on both the dial up or wireless, I have not found the same option which we have in the mac to tell the wireless connection which internet connection is to be shared. Is there any easy way to do it or must i pay a wireless router to access the dial up connection.

    i guess you should try
    String cmd = "c:\windows\dialup.exe";
    String envp [] = null; //environment variable
    Runtime.exec(cmd, envp);

  • Initiate a dial-up connection or detect whether I am connected to the net

I want to initiate a dial-up connection from my java program and also to detect whether I am connected to the internet or not.

well I am developing a proxy server and I want to add
a feature of dial-up demand that detects the current
connection status and if not connected to the net then
call the dial-up dialers in dial-up networking folder
and then connects to the internetI'd say it works like I wrote earlier:
Keep yourself in the proxy-server the connections-status.
If your proxy-server runs on a normal PC, it should be enough to try to connect to the internet.
But do you need control over multiple dial-up dialers etc., this probably isn't enough.
If I can find the time, I'll look into it.
Maybe direct access to the modem is also an option.
That depends on the modem of course and then you probably also need additional scripting. I guess that's not what you're looking for, but if you need info on that, it's probably also an option to look at a wvdial-script on Linux for connection to the internet. It might also be a problem if you have multiple channels for connecting onto the internet (cable, phone,ASDL etc.)

  • Video Chat over Dial-up Connection

    Hi,
Is it possible to have a video chat over a dial-up connection? If it is, I'm interested to hear what is the experience like from anyone who has tried it. Is it acceptable? How about having 3 person AV conference, and one connection is dial-up?
I'm looking at buying an MacBook for my parents so they can chat and see the grandkids but they only have dial-up and getting broadband is not really an option since where they are it's still ridiculously expensive.
    Thanks for your replies,
    Alex

    Hi,
Since I started with iChat in 2003 I have only ever seen one post about a successful iChat Video over Dial-Up.
As I recall it was from Britain to somewhere in Ireland and the Irish end was using IDSN at the time at about 66kbps and that it was late in the day.
The Minimum spec stated is for an Internet connection of 100kbps but iChat will give you an Error message when it detects a Bandwidth or Connection speed less than 50kbps.
Realistically this (above) was a fluke and the answer is NO.

  • Dial-Up connection program

    Hallo there,
I would be grateful you could give me some insight into writing a dial-up connection program. Also, I'd like to know whether there are any specs on modems' api's.
As if this was not enough, I was wondering whether is was possibile to see the content of a class file, and the code generated by the compiler.
It would be interesting to see, for example, how a for-loop is translated. The same thing applies to serialization.
Your help will be much appreciated.

  • SLOW internet dial up connection

I bought a Power mac G4 with internal v92 modem. My connect speed is only 28.8k with a average through put of 19k. I can take my wifes PC Computer, plug it into the same wall jack that the Mac was in and get a 50.6K connection with a average through put of 46K. My old PC always connected and still connects at 50.6K on the same wall jack. I am very remote and will never have anything but dial up, 28.8K is not useable.
Reading in some of the OLD posts, it seems like many people with Tiger and the version before it lost connect speed. People wiht older OS have normal speed.
Is there a fix ? I talked with Apple Tech Support and they deny there is a problem.
What about a external USB Modem ? It appears that Zoom makes the only external USB that will run with Mac.
Thanks for any help possible. I am running OS 10.4.7

Thanks for the link to the other discussion. I too have the problem when connecting to the web that It streams the "connecting" message but does not dial or make any noise and is not connected to the phone line. It just continues to stream the "connecting" message. If I select "disconnect" then it streams the "disconnecting" message and is completely hung -the computer is not hung, just the modem. I can sometimes get out of this by disconnecting the modem and plugging it back in. That worked for a while but more and more it just crashes and requires a restart. Then after a restart I can get a 28.8K The streaming/slow conect is random in pattern.
This is serious. I too read the user reports on the Apple Store regarding the USB Modem. No Sale on that Modem. Now, I doubt the Zoom will help either.
Apple needs to realize and respond to this problem, its on going. As I mentioned before, Not everyone in the US has Broadband.
I am test driving this Power Mac G4 to see the differences between it and PC/Windows for my business. It will be a capital expense to buy all new Macs or PC's. I am very impressed with Mac, In fact wish I got a Mac a long time ago. Howwever, If Apple Cant, Wont or does not know how to give a good modem dial up connection, I will not be able to replace my ageing PC's with Macs. My business requires a lot of Internet use.
Please take note Apple, this is a business application, your falling short !!!

  • Run dial-up connection from Java Program?

Is there a way to run dial-up connection from a Java Program? It needs to platform independent.
    Thanks.
    Virum

I very much doubt it, at least not platform independent. I had a, oops, heck of a time doing that from Visual Basic, where it is much easier to work with operating-system stuff like that than it is in Java. I finally ended up buying a RAS component to call from my VB program.

  • BM VPN causing dial-up connections to disappear - Air Card

I'm having an issue with BM VPN. I have an end user on an XP laptop who needs to connect via BM VPN using his Verizon Wireless Broadband Air Card. The Broadband Cards are always listed under Dial-Up Connections in Network Connections, but after installing BM VPN, the dial-up connections are no longer there and if I try to manually create a connection, it is greyed out. Also, to no avail, the following services in XP are not turned on and for the life of me I cannot get them to start:
    Remote Accesss Auto Connection Manager
    Remote Accesss Connection Manager
From what I've read, these services must be on in order to create a new dial-up connection. The Broadband card refuses to connect due to the fact that a dial-up connection cannot be created. The Broadband card and software were installed and working before BM VPN was installed. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling BM VPN, but that didn't fix the problem.
Also, if I look under the Novell Client properties, Location Profiles Tab, VPN, Properties, Properties again, and finally the VPN Dial-Up tab, there is a message that says "A VPN dial-up initialization has occurred. Microsoft Dial-Up Networking is not installed." I don't know if this means anything or is related to the problem, but I thought I'd relay this information as well. I looked for ways to reinstall the Microsoft Dial-Up Networking, but all articles refer to Windows 95 or 98 installations. I've also reinstalled Windows XP SP3 successfully, but it didn't fix the problem.
Has anyone else ever ran into a problem like this and can help me? I'm so lost and desperate for help. Thanks.

I'm not sure how to recover on the system that is currently broken -
though I suspect some form of remove/reinstall MS components should get
    you back running again.
When you install the VPN client, and you select the dial-up option, it
basically tries to integrate the MS dial up networking system into VPN
menus. I don't think it really invents anything new there. If there
is something non-standard on the dial-up entries, it may be that the
VPN installation doesn't handle it properly. I don't know, because
I've not installed that component or used it in years.
What I would recommend is to not install the dial-up component on with
the VPN client. Just leave it off, make a usual dial-up connection,
and then launch the VPN client. The VPN dial-up component just
tries to manage all of that so you do it with less button clicks.

  • Using javamail with dial-up connection and LAN

    Hello,
I'm using javamail on Windows XP (including service pack 2). When I connect to a mail server on the network, everything is OK. When I connect to a mail server using a dial-up connection, everything is OK. But when I try to connect to a mail server for which I need the dial-up connection and I also have a network connection to my LAN, the connect to the mailserver failed. It looks like JavaMail is searching the mail server on my LAN instead of on the dial-up connection. Does anybody know if I can configure JavaMail to search on the dial-up connection? Does anybody know if this problem will also occur on systems where I have multiple network cards?
