HotSpot Tethering - Bug / Unexpected behavior

I use the hotspot feature on my Verizon iPhone daily. I have an in-car traffic reader (on old iPhone that I've replaced) that uses WiFi to access the internet for traffic data. The iPhone 4 hotspot feature is cuasing me a problem. As near as I can tell, the hotspot broadcasts the WiFi SSID only for a short time, for just a few minutes right after enabling the hotspot feature. So my use scenario/problem looks like this:
1. Get in car in morning, turn on hotspot
2. Traffic reader device connects to internet using WiFi hotspot tethering
3. Drive around and enjoy
4. Arrive at first destination, exit car. Take phone with me into store.
5. Phone is out of range of traffic reader, and traffic reader drops WiFi connection.
6. Return to car
7. Traffic reader is still not connected to WiFi becuase it doesn't 'see' the SSID broadcast
8. Open iPhone settings, turn off HotSpot, wait 5 seconds, turn HotSpot back on
9. Traffic reader reconnects to HotSpot, resumes parsing internet data for traffic.
Continuing to braodcast the SSID would fix this issue. Even if the broadcast were only once per minute, it would be more convenient than turn off and on the hotspot function just to reconnect.

I think you are running into the following issue.

"Note: If you leave the Personal Hotspot screen or put iPhone to sleep, iPhone only broadcasts the Wi-Fi network for an additional 90 seconds. If no devices join the Wi-Fi network during that time, iPhone 4 stops broadcasting your Wi-Fi network. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot."
So, if I understand correctly, you can leave your iphone on the the Settings --> Personal Hotspot screen, than it shouldn't stop broadcasting.

Unexpected behavior on 5.1.19 Select query

Hello There,
We are seeing an unexpected behavior on 11.2.5.1.19 where we are expecting our query should response “X” number of records while it response us back with less number of records in some situation. While looking to the change log we did notice that a fix has been added to 11.2.5.1.25 as follows:
“Fixed a bug that would return DB_NOTFOUND while searching for an existing item using a cursor on a non-sorted duplicate btree database. [#19210]”
We were wondering whether that fix could resolve this issue or not? If yes, is there a way we can get a Patch to apply and validate so that we can move to 11.2.5.1.25 or newer versions.
Here is what we are doing, Within an application we have two threads, One is Inserting/Updating record in the table while the other one is selecting, and all DB operations are done in transaction. Select thread comes after certain time whenever a condition is satisfied. Although it work fine most of the time but there are situation where select response with fewer records that we expected, that causes our program to died as expected. However, if we query the Database (using dbsql) after the application died using the same select query/criteria we could able to select the exact same number of records that we were expecting to see. We are not sure what is going wrong here, any help is appreciated.

I have made some modifications to the example program ex_sql_multi_thread.c,
based on the information you sent in email. So far I can not reproduce the
problem either. This does look like something we have seen before:
Berkeley DB lost data sometimes when I ran the example ex_sql_multi_thread
but it is difficult to pinpoint without an exact reproducer. One thought is
if you can try the application with the latest Berkeley DB release which
is: 5.3.15. Some race conditions were fixed in that release and since you can
reproduce the behavior with 5.1 and 5.2 you should be able to verify if
it is present or not in 5.3.15.

Unexpected behavior of Foreach Loop in SSIS 2012

I have come across the unexpected behavior of Foreach Loop in SSIS 2012. While testing package for invalid folder (path asdf:\Vishal_Work does not exists in this case) for source files.
I observed that the control does not enters into Foreach Loop, but also it does not fails the task. The task Foreach Loop runs successfully, though folder was invalid.
The package did not throw any warning regarding invalid folder, but for the unmatched file pattern.
My concern is ‘why Foreach Loop in SSIS did not failed even if folder was invalid or not exists?’

The warning is "The For Each File enumerator is empty. The For Each File enumerator did not find any files that matched the file pattern, or the specified directory was empty."
The warning message states the specified directory was empty, though it does not extists.
We can handle this scenario through script task easily, but I really wonder why Foreach loop does not validate the folder. It is loophole in Foreach loop?
I would not classify it as loophole. I actually agree with Russ, it was a design decision on the side of the development team.

Unexpected Behavior error while creating a connection in IDT

Hi Everyone,
I have created a connection on top of a database using ODBC.
I could able to see the connection in IDT.
I have mentioned the user name and pw correctly and tried testing the connection and got the error "unexpected behavior"
PFA error.
what could be the reason? any idea?

I find this 32-bit vs. 64-bit ODBC somewhat confusing. I know you aren't dealing with Crystal Reports, but this blog post does provide some clarity. It has a link to this Microsoft knowledge base article from which I quote...
A 64-bit version of the Microsoft Windows operating system includes the following versions of the
Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Data Source Administrator tool (Odbcad32.exe):
The 32-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 folder.
The 64-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.
One other warning. In my experience I have found that you cannot run both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC admin tools at the same time. If you have one running and try and start the other one it will just bring up the one you already had running.
To make sure I know which instance I am in at any give time I have created a dummy data source that corresponds to the instance; 32-bit or 64-bit.

You can use an iPhone (if your carrier supports it) as a personal hotspot for your iPad and use the phone's cellular connection to go online with your iPad - your iPad will see the phone as a wifi network.
If you are asking if you can share an internet connection from a wifi-only iPad then you can't, only cellular models potentially allow you to share its connection with other devices/computers.

Since no one has done so yet since iOS 4.3 has not been released, it will probably be somewhat slower since there will be a wi-fi connection in between - not a direct 3G connection with the iPad, but it shouldn't be noticeable.

DNS SRV Proxy Lookup and Failover Mechanism / Unexpected Behavior

I came across some unexpected behavior yesterday I was wondering if someone could help shed some light on the problem. In my DNS I created this record: _sip._upd.platautofinance.com which when I do a query using MX Toolbox it is correctly reporting the following:
On the SPA504 I have programmed the SRV records into the system using the following:
So here is the issue, the phones will register correctly to the primary server but after a length of time ALL the phones will abandon ship and jump to the secondary server and stay there. I have to manually shut the secondary down, reboot the endpoints at which point they will re-register with the primary. So I think I need to understand the mechanism a bit better. Here is what I can think of:
The phones are not using the primary DNS service record providers DNS servers, we are using OpenDNS instead of Network Solutions <-- Unlikely because the SPA would not be able to resolve the SIP SRV records / servers at all with a broken DNS resolution. I can tell by dropping from the primary to the secondary that resolution is taking place on the phone because they are jumping between the right ones.
My understanding is the proxy fallback interval should have the phone register (and they should be checking periodically if the primary is available again and if so, re-register the to the lowest-weighted server) but that's not happening without a manual reboot. Once on the secondary they want to stay there.
My firewall for both the primary and secondary servers do not answer ICMP.
So the question is: why do the SPA phones think the primary is offline? What is the mechanism or criteria the SPA uses to determine a server is offline and then rolling to the secondary? Why do they want to stick around the secondary which is using only a best effort connection when we have a bonded T on the primary?

I believe it will be easier if you call SBSC and ask the questions directly. The questions are very good and exact. I will try to answer shortly. Assuming you use only CCA to configure the system.
1. If you have set dns for your internet connection it should work, you may try with different dns servers. Please delete the SIP trunk and recreate it.
2. Please delete the SIP trunk and recreate it.
3. If you need to configure more codecs through CCA you may send feature request using envelope button of the CCA.
I hope the above answers will be helpful although very short. If they are not helpful please contact SBSC and open a case.

Unexpected behavior error

When running a self-built report using the IOM Tactical Reporting Universe. This error is received intermittently, as at times the report runs without any issues (indicating no logic issues in the actual query).if we run rest of the reports on same universe reports working fine.we are using sap BO 3.1 sp 3. please help anyone on this.

Script Label feature exhibits unexpected behavior. Is it a bug?

If I create a table, select a cell on any row, apply a Script Label (using Window -> Utilities -> Script Label), and then insert a new row above or below it, the new row will have the same script label in the same column. I can't imagine this being by design so it sounds like a bug.
Has anyone else encountered this? If so, have you implemented any workarounds? I'm thinking I might have to write a post-insertion process to detect when a row is created and remove all the script labels for that row, but that seems like a lot of work. I'd have to check all the rows in the table, because if I insert multiple rows in one operation, they all inherit the original row's script labels.
I'm using the CC2014 SDK, but I wouldn't be surprised if this occurs on all versions.

Upgrade has caused problems with hotspot, tethering, and "help"

I received notice that my Z10 os had an upgrade available, so I went ahead and upgraded to 10.1.0.2019. Now that I'm on a new version my wireless hotspot as well as tethering features no longer work. They worked the day before. I have an unlimited data plan with data roaming. Others in my org with the exact same phone and plan but earlier version os do not have this problem. The error message for both features (hotspot and tethering) is that I need to subscribe to a plan that allows these features. My plan is already unlimited data with roaming. After investigation with the provider, they reported that my features had not been "enabled correctly". They made some changes and these two features started working again. This is all very suspicious and dubious since the features were working prior to the upgrade.
The second issue is that now I constantly have "help" menu pop ups telling me how to use gestures to navigate on my phone. I don't want these but don't see where to turn them off. I guess this is the default behavior of the new OS. Apparently it introduced or modified some of the gestures. Until I actually went in and executed each gesture, it continued to display the help menu.
I'd just as soon revert back to the old OS if I have to live with all this new unhelpful stuff. I don't see a handy way to downgrade to a previous release either. right now my phone is far less productive a tool than it should be or was prior to the upgrade.
While all has been fixed now, it still points to some unfortunate issues with new OS.

As long as you are using the current version of firefox Firefox 7 sync is part of the browser. If you use the old version Firefox 3.6 sync was an add-on. If you have the add-on it may be removed see [[uninstalling add-ons]]

Activating sync should not be affecting the look of websites or webmail pages, possibly it is a separate problem.

4s Hotspot tethering only works with USB and BT but not with wifi

XP sp3 - iPhone 4s with ios 5.0.1 - on Three one plan
Tethering with wifi works to a friends Samsung phone, wifi on the pc confirmed working with the apple store wifi, tethering with USB and BT works with good connection speeds on my laptop but when i try to tether with wifi it connects to the laptop at 54mbps and all appears well, even claims to have received a small amount of data packets, but no data comes to any browser. The iPhone reports 1 connection to the hotspot and stays connected with a non-pulsing blue bar after the first minute.

I've deleted my firewall (zone alarm) completely and turned off windows firewall to go naked surfing for a second even though they don't cause a problem with USB tethering, makes no difference

disabled bluetooth
rebooted many times
reinstalled itunes (latest)
loads more things i can't remember
This is causing me a nightmare. I've been through everything i can find online, been to the Apple store genius bar (genius appeared to have sub zero knowledge / interest as it involved a MS machine), been to a Three shop (legally not allowed to touch my PC apparently) and been to a Sony shop (laptop make, not their fault if my iphone doesn't work). All very frustrating.
Please help if you can! Any suggestion will be tried unless it involves sledge hammers or lakes, and only then for a few more days at most.

Turned off bluetooth on phone, turned off hotspot and on again, phone asked if i wanted to turn on bluetooth or go with USB and wifi only, said usb/wifi only. Still nothing. Rebooted PC and iphone. Turned on hotspot, pc seemlessly connects to network, still no data comes.
One odd thing is zone alarm asks me to "select a security zone for the wireless network at ip address: *******.0" every time and doesn't seem to remember the setting over sessions. When i get the status of the connection the ip address is *****.2 and default gateway is same ********.1 Not sure if that's anything.
Also getting a javascript error about an undefinded component (trustcheckermozilla) since i updated zonealarm but as i said even completely uninstalling zonealarm made no difference. I'll update firefox as well but tried with IE and still no data.

How to Reference a Slice from a Hotspot in a Add Behavior

I want to create a command that does the following ;: the user selects several items and runs a command that will copy that selection to another frame (prompt for frame number), create a slice around that selection, hide that content on frame 1, insert a hotspot and link that hotspot to the slice as a swap to the chosen frame. Once complete, the user should be able to hit F12 and see their swap in action. This is useful for things like button states, menus, tooltips, or other rollover popups.This would take many of the manual steps out of creating a swap.I think the behavior I'm trying to achieve should be built into Fireworks. The prototyping capabilities are in need of improvement from a workflow perspective..
I can use dom.copyToHotspot() to create the slice (very nice). I'd like to use the addBehavior("MM_swapImage directive to connect my hotspot to my slice. To understand how this works, I manually dragged from a hotspot to a slice and create a swap image and then I looked into the History panel and copy steps. I got the following

The number '278038900' causes me some concern. When I look at the documentation for extending Fireworks, I see that that number refers to the target slice. The documentation say "target specifies the slice to which the behavior is attached. Pass1– for this value; all other values are used internally by Fireworks" which I take to mean pass -1 to refer to the selected hotspot/slice. Here's the rub, I don't want to refer to the select hotspot, I wanted to refer to the destination slice. I'm wondering if I could reference the destination slice using a selection array.
This brings up an issue with Fireworks scripting. It would be nice if I could give items an ID so that I could refer to those items by their ID rather than by the contents of a selection. I noticed that in the command 'dom.addSwapImageBehaviorFromPoint(where)', they say that I can select a slice and then refer to a hotspot at where (x,y). That might be an avenue to addressing my problem. But, finding something at point (x,y) is pretty fragile. If I add a hotspot, I'll know the x,y.

Unflatten Pixmap unexpected behavior

This is not actually a bug in the function Unflatten Pixmap but I see a fail in the function implementation.
It seems that the output is missing the an entire line and collumn of the array corresponding to the input picture.
What is your oppinion ?

There's nothing to fix, as there's nothing broken. Even if NI did decide to change it now to make it easier to work with, they would have a problem because there's a lot of existing code in the world and even if for a lot of it being one pixel off is not a huge deal, at least some of it will depend on having the correct sizes.

Fully agree here. This is not a bug but "unexpected" behaviour at most. And as such there are two possible solutions, one being to change the behaviour and the other to change the expectations. The first option is after 20 years of existence of the Picture Control not an option at all. The best you can hope for if you report it as bug is that the documentation is amended to point out this behaviour more explicitedly.
As to a more functional control, it already exists as the 3D Picture Control which uses OpenGL internally. Still not the egg producing, wool spending pig that some would want, but at least offering vector based operations.

Panel Grid Layout: Column Span unexpected behavior.

Whenever in a Panel Grid Layout, when i give a cell to span over multiple columns(2,3,4 or any), the cell is spanned over the entire row only.. Why does this behavior happens? In JDeveloper, the spanning is shown correctly in design tab and preview tab.

I believe I have discovered the cause of the issue you are facing.
The problem is with the "Alert Region" region template and that it does not have any display points specified so indicate the number of grids that can fit in its region body. Without having any display points, the grid layout system attempts to use all columns available to its container. However, because the Alert Region has additional padding within, the columns will not fit and wrap to the next line.
To fix this issue, you will have to modify the "Alert Region" region template, go to "Display Points" and click Add Row. You will need to enter the following fields:
Name: Region Body
Template Substitution: BODY
Grid Support: Checked
Maximum Fixed Grid Columns: -1
This will fix the issue for you. I've logged a bug within our bug system to track this so we can fix it in a future release of APEX.
