Hotspot wifi

Could someone explain why the playbook and torch can not login in to the hotel wifi ie the Fairmont hotels. I have not been successful at two hotels. Whereas my wifes iPad has had no trouble it's embarrassing! The only error I get is connection timed out. I don't get the hotspot web page that is suppose to come up.

Hey Jaweba,
I have a quick question, have you tested a different Wi-Fi or Hotspot connection?
Thank you.

    I have an ipad3 and a PC
I am trying to connect the iPad3 to the PC for HotSpotting reason (the ability to use the internet on the PC)
Turning on HOT SPOT on the Apple ipad works GREAT when using it through WI-Fi and through Blue Tooth. But connecting it directly through the included iPad 3 USB Cable to the USB side of the PC does NOT work. I tried several PCs, and several Cables. Any other ideas

    Hello ecosh,
You can't use your BBM and email using Wi-fi, unless you have an active BlackBerry data plan. May I ask, does it work before?
    Thanks.

  • Hotspot  wifi - other wifi getting in the way

I have this annoying problem. All sorts of wifi signals get in the way of my iPhone, which tries to connect to them instead of staying on 3G.  I clearly see the message "wifi not available while your phone is a hotspot", but my iPhone seems to be trying to connect to them anyway.  This slows it down a lot.
(when away from home and not using it as a a hot spot, I just turn wifi off)
    Thank you

Your phone is malfunctioning if it's trying to join WiFi networks when Personal Hotspot is enabled (defeating the Hotspot function).  Do the basic troubleshooting steps as described in the User Guide, Appendix B (and elsewhere)
    Restart phone
    Reset phone
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Restore in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup.
There are a couple of things that are unclear from your first post, confusing the issue:
"when away from home and not using it as a a hot spot, I just turn wifi off"
Why do that if you have access to free WiFi?
Also, if you have access to external WiFi, why use your phone (and data plan) as a personal hotspot when you can connect whatever other device you're using directly to that WiFi source?

  • Hotspot: wifi or bluetooth?

I setup my iPhone-4S to be used as a hotspot for my iPad. Is there a power consumption, or any other, difference between setting it up as wifi vs. bluetooth? I'm using the wifi right now, seems to drain the phone to about 50% after 4-5 hours.

The communication rate is the same on the data side...
Wifi has better bandwidth and has faster communications.
Bluetooth has lower bandwidth and may ding the battery time more due to the extended transmisson times.
Or you can direct tether over USB which doesn't affect the phone's battery life at all...

  • IPhone 4 won't connect to verizon hotspot wifi

I have a Verizon WiFi hotspot at work - my AT&T iPhone will not hold the connection (I work in a high-rise and there is virtually no AT&T signal.)  It keeps asking for the password, but won't accept or connect.  Sometimes it works fine, other times not at all.  I have no problems with other WiFi.

Try changing the broadcast channel on the modem - you'll have to log in to the configuration page in order to do that.

It is not possible to use wireless router for any free wi-fi network ..... because the router needs internet connection at the internet port of the router ....
I will suggest you to use range extender or access point to work on your network .....

  • TS2756 How do i see who and what deivces are connected to my personal hotspot wifi

I have an IPhone 4 it is up to date on software, but when i try to see who is connected to my hotspot it doesn't allow me to see it just shows me that there are a couple connections but not who or what.... is there anyway to see these?? Thanks

In AirPort Utility 6.1, click on the AirPort Exteme icon, then look for Wireless Clients. Click on the listing of each device just to the right of Wireless Clients and another box will open to display the following for each client:
    Name
    IP address
    Hardware Address
    Signal Quality
    Data Rate
    Other stuff
Unfortunately, there is no convenient "list" of all conneced devices. You have get details on each one individually.
I don't know how to find an Ethernet client if you need that info. I think Apple left this out.

  • How to set up wifi hotspot connectivity

I have an old laptop that was upgraded from XP to Vista Business. It runs OK but is very slow. I have Fios wireless at home and it connects fine, but the In-house Agent won't run properly (blank pages for the Internet & Phone sections...Chat tech was unhelpful). My question is: how can I set up the hotspot connectivity without having to use the worse-than-useless In-house agent?

the link I gave is for a windows machine
Droid has it's own app, and boingo is what Verizon uses - so you can safely download boingo and then when it asks for your login, you put your VZ log in info.
you DO have to create a seperate WIFI log in though,  So you should go to www.verizon.net/
Hover over my verizon and then select VIEW all from the my services menu  > then select internet on the left hand side menu > then select manage under the verizon wifi section.
    Manage gives you two options
    Find Wifi Hotspots
    WiFI how to demos
Select Wifi how to demos and then click and follow the registration link
when you get there, it wants you to sign in, you sign in with your main account, and then you go through the Wi-fi registration steps to make a Verizon WIFI username
these are going to be seperate usernames, one used for your account and online access, you already have this one
and the next is one specifically for wifi hotspot access, you are creating this one (if you haven't already done so)

  • IPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3) connects to home Wifi, but not O2 or the_Cloud hotspots

    Hello.
I have been having some issues connecting to hotspot wifi.
I can connect to my home and office wifi without a problem, but my phone will not automatically connect to wifi hotspots. When I try to connect manually, the phone hangs on the login screen before giving the message below. The phone is set up on O2 wifi and Sky wifi, but the issue is common to them both.
I have been told th eissue is due to the ports and Apple servers and there is currently no fix other than turning off wifi, then turning off cell data, then turning wifi back on - each time I want to connect to a wifi hotsport......
Has anyone with this version of iOS solved it and if so, can they post a link to the solution?
    Thanks,
    Stuart

By way of an update, I downloaded 6.1.3 via iTunes and then reinstalled my Apps and set-up mail using new settings.  It was a bit of a pain, but at least it made me review the Apps I have.  I re-sync'd with iTunes to put the music and podcasts back.  I did not restore from a backup.
I tried connecting to The_Cloud and O2 WIFI hotspots and it works fine (without having to turn cellular data off)!
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to use wifi and personal hotspot at same time in ios 8.0.2 ??a

I Am connecting my iphone with my router using wifi .
i am using windows laptop but it's wifi adapter is not working thats why I want to connect my iPhone with it .
when I start my personal hotspot wifi is disable automaticaly .
    any solution for this ?
    <edited by host>

I'm not sure what you are asking here. As you were told earlier, Personal Hotspot allows you to share the cellular internet from the phone to other devices. You can share that via wi-fi, however you report that the wi-fi on the laptop is not functional. You can share the Personal Hotspot via USB to the laptop. You cannot get your internet connection from your wi-fi router and share it via the iPhone. As mentioned earlier, connect the laptop to the router via Ethernet. Not ideal, but then you do not have a functioning wi-fi on the laptop, so you have to take what you can get.

  • Iphone wifi hotspot is attraction another 'connection'

    Hi
I have an iPhone 5 and set up a hotspot wifi connection with a password.  I am only connecting to the hotspot with my iPad - I have no other devices or cables to connect the 2 items.  However I have noticed sometimes my iPhone tells me there are 2 connections to my hotspot.  I changed the password but the second connection keeps appearing on and off.  I presume this is because my wifi signal is not great (I have trouble finding it when the iPhone and iPad are sat on top of each other!) but I'm not sure what else it could be.
I am concerned someone is hacking my wifi and I would like to know if it is another user, who they are, how I can block them.  Can anyone help?
    Thanks

No I wasn't using any cables, I don't have a laptop, just the iPhone and iPad.
But the idea of a zombie connection could be it.  The second connection turns on about 1minute after the original connection and it does come and go a couple of times in a 5 minute window.
It would still be nice to see the names of who is connected to the hotspo to be suret - is there any app or software for this?
