HotSync Hangs Up

I recently dropped my Centro and it hit kind of hard on the handle of a metal safe that we have.
Later in the day tried to do an install (with HotSync) on a new pc.  The HotSync hangs up trying to sync the "Calendar".  It basically just freezes there and the installation has to be canceled when (after a long period of time) a window pops up that says "MEM_BAD_POINTER".
Would anyone have an idea what to do with this?  Is my Centro broken and can it be taken somewhere to be fixed?
Any help is desperately appreciated.

Hello stellarplacebo, anything we could suggest would be mere speculation.  It could be a direct hit caused a Hardware glitch/failure, or it's just a coincidence!
Standard suggestions apply - Soft Reset then test, Hard Reset then test before HotSync.  If it all works after a Hard Reset, it's software-related.  If not, it sounds like hardware.
Repairs can be found from Palm ($$$) or several websites ($) like usedpdaparts.com or directfix.com.

  • Hotsync hangs on Calendar

    Hotsync somehow lost the conduit to calendar (no option showing up under custom)... I've tried most of the things listed on the FAQs with no success...I'm not using Outlook at all, so none of the suggestions along those lines help.
    I've re-installed the desktop software and the sync hangs on calendar. I've tried under a new user name with no success...
    At this point, I'd do a hard reset except that my data aren't backed up. What I'd like to do at this point is to get BackupBuddy on to my device and back everything up that way.
    Unfortunately, even when I set Calendar to "Take no action" it still hangs on "Synchronising Calendar"... is there any other way to get it to not try to sychronise this at all?
    Post relates to: Treo 680 (Cingular)

    Mooseo,
    Ok, here are the instructions for the "clean" uninstall.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
    from your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
    you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

    I'm using Windows 7 64 bit  and Bluetooth toSync.  The sync goes well until No. 10 - Media and it just hangs up. It does not go any further and complete.  All the pictures show up in the media section of Palm Desktop however.
    Any suggestions???

    Ok, click on the icon (if it is not present go to Start Button/All programs/Palm/HotSync Manager to start it) then choose "Settings".
    In the left column of the screen that opens, choose "Applications".
    Check off the little box that says "Show Details".  Now you can see how each conduit is set.
    To change one of them, Highlight the conduit (in your case, "Media" ) then the "Configure button will come alive.  Click it, and change the setting.  (I have my Media conduit turned off - "Do Nothing" ).   To make the change permanent for each upcoming Hotsync, check the box that says "Set As Default" - otherwise the change will happen only once, then revert back.

  • Hotsync hangs up on memo

    Newbie here to forum but have used palm os in the past.
    Got a new Centro - Verizon
    I've been syncing and it's worked.
    Tonight it gets hung up on memo 8 of 12 and won't move from there.  Tried canceling and rebooting computer and smartphone.
    I went in and disabled memo (do nothing) and the whole cycle went through.  So obviously the memo is what's hanging it up.
    Here's the thing.  I read that I should see if there are any corrupt memos....well my memos are empty.  I haven't added anything yet.
    Now when I reable memo it is hanging up again.  any thoughts?
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

    If Hotsync is detecting 12 memos, there are 12 memos either on your Centro or on your desktop.
    Where are they NOT appearing? Centro or Computer?
    I have not used the Access Desktop so I do not know if it has a repair function in Tools. If the memos are on your computer and this feature exists, try it.
    Alternatively, if the memos are on your computer, open one, copy it to Notepad, and delete it from Palm Desktop. Then create a new memo and paste from Notepad. Repeat.
    If the memos are on your Centro, suggest you take a look at DBFixIt from pimlicosoftware.com.
    I would not go about changing sync overwrites until you are absolutely clear which device (computer or Centro) the memos are on; I would not want you to inadvertently lose them.

  • Hotsync hanging in calendar

    I recently upgraded from a Tungsten E2 to a Centro and am having Hotsync issues.
    I have installed the software that came with the centro and was able to Hotsync once.  The next time, it hung in the calendar and remained so after 30+ minutes when I finally cancelled it.   I tried again and had to take the battery out to get it to return to normal phone functions.
    I downloaded the software off the internet and reinstalled it.  Again - works once, then hangs on all futher attemps.  Often hanging so badly I need to pop out the battery.
    I'm getting no error messages, it just hangs.  Help!
    Thanks!

  • IIIxe Hotsync Hangs at 'Identifying User'

    I received a Palm IIIxe recently and decided to play with it on my Mac.  I'm using a Powerbook G4 with OS X 10.5.2, and a serial-to-usb cable for the IIIxe.
    I downloaded Palm Desktop and got the computer and the software to recognize the serial-usb connection.  When I press the Hotsync button on the IIIxe's dock, the Hotsync window comes up on the computer and starts trying to establish the connection - so it can at least interface with the computer to a point.
    However, the process haults when the Palm's screen says "Identifying User" and, after a few seconds, I get an error message (it's not a specific error and the log gives me no solid information).
    I've looked around online but haven't gotten any conclusive fixes for this, especially for an older Palm on OS X Leopard.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Palm Desktop, tried changing user names in Palm Desktop, and tried out the weird memo pad shortcut process on the palm to change the user name and see if that would do anything, but nothing's working.  And I'm not quite sure how to hard reset a IIIxe, but I doubt that would do much, either.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

    I have a similar problem only a bit different.  Maybe you're situation can help me.  I have a Palm IIIxe that I originally purchased to use on my PC.  I've since switched to a MacBook.  I downloaded the Palm software onto my MacBook and that works fine.  My trouble is when I try to sync.  The IIIxe came with a serial dock.  As you know Mac's don't have serial ports.  I have a serial to USB adapter which I use to attach the Palm to the Mac but I'm unable to sync.  The setup continues to say "direct serial" but I'm actually using USB.  I no longer have the software that came with the Palm nor do I have any software that came with the serial to USB adapter if there was any.
    Hope you've got some ideas and thanks in advance for any help.

  • HotSync hanging up

    Recently my Zire 31 is getting hung up during the HotSync'ing process.  It does it in various places, sometimes when it first starts sync'ing sometimes when it gets to sync'ing Mobipocket.  I've uninstalled everything on my computer, mobi, palm and even hard reset my Zire and started over.  Seemed like that might work, but when it got to Mobi again, hung up just like before.  I'm using the newest version of Mobipocket when I redownloaded.  I tried to download the new HotSync, but it wouldn't take.  That's a whole new issue that has to come later!  I have XP OS.  Any suggestions would be helpful!
    Post relates to: Zire 31

    the mobipocket comes in 3 different ways to obtain, the OTA or over-the-air download, install it in the PC or the manual install.
    since you are using zire 31, lets rule out the OTA option and focus on the remaining 2. which of the 2 remaining methods did you use?
    these 2 methods varies a lot when they are downloaded and installed to the device.
    for the desktop method, you are downloading the mobireadersetup.msi while in the manual method you are going to download the mobireader.prc, mathlib.prc and bluepalm.prc.
    and the 3 files should be installed in your device via the quick install tool.

  • Palm Desktop Vista Loses Calendar Info and won't allow hotsync to replace it from Z22

    For the second time in about a month, I have opened Palm Desktop on my Vista PC to find that the calendar is blank. All the information that was there is now gone. When I then attempt a hotsync with my Z22 (where that data is still intact), the hotsync hangs at step 2 of 12, which correlates to the second datebook sync in the log.
    What I would like to know is: 1. What is the name of the data files that hold the sync info, and would trashing them allow a successfull hotsync? 2. Can .bak files be used in place of .dba files to replace the data? 3. What can I do in the future to avoid this issue?

  • Sync Hangs on Datebook (only)

    I'm using (for many happy years) a Palm Zire synced only to the PalmDesktop (not to Outlook).
    While on vacation, my Palm Zire ran out of battery and all information was lost. Upon recharging the battery, I tried to hotsync, but the hotsync hang on the datebook. I had to abnormally end the hotsyc operation and reset the handheld.
    I then decided to HotSync each component separately (Address book, Notepad, etc.) All worked fine, except for the Datebook. It will only HotSynch about 200 items (all repeating appointments), and then stops (hangs). I thought this could be caused by infinite repeating appointments, but in the meanwhile, I've cleaned up everything on my desktop, but still, I cannot get the datebook to synchonize.
    Would anyone know what is causing this anomoly to occur and how to fix it??

  • Filesystem "sync" hang

    Hi,
    have a MacPro Leopard Server 10.5.6 with 4 HDD and a iSCSI box attatched. Since a while I have troube. Best way to proof is to enter "sync" in a terminal session. command hangs, Diskutil too.
    No "Disk I/O" message in syslog. Any way to diagnose the problem causer? Is there any "display i/o queue", "display filesystem locks" etc. command build in MacosX?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums. When hotsync hangs at a particular point, 3 of 13 it indicates that there is some data corruption issues.  If this is calendar go to that conduit and set it to do nothing then sync.  If it finishes fine you know that data is the problem.  Then go download dbfixit and install it to your centro and run it and delete or fix the problems it found.  The free version will check for problems and you will have to manually fix / delete them.  If you spend the $12.95 to register it will also fix the problems.  I recently heard of another utility, dbscan, which is free as well and does not require registration for full features.  But I have not tried it so not sure how well it works.  Once you have the corrupted data fixed you can turn the conduit back on and should be able to sync.

  • Hot Sync gets stuck at 3 of 13

    I have Vista and have done all the downloads, 6.2 and 7.02.  It still gets stuck at Date Book.  I have changed the conduit to handheld overwrites PC.  The calendar gets updated but not the date book on the PC.  It used to a few months ago.  I do not use email on the phone, only for calls and date book.  One thing the log said was PC =0 handheld = 64864.  Could there be too much data somewhere that stops the hot sync?  Thanks.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    Does the sync get stuck or is the data not being updated? If the hotsync hangs-up on 3 of 13, it usually indicates database corruption and DBfixit needs to be run to find the corruption (see the link in the previous post). Do you need to go to task manager and kill the application when it gets stuck?
    I see where you stated you have 2 different usernames,
    Also, the first file under Palm OS in my documents is named Alexis0 is that the file I should save to the desktop as well as change the name to the current name of the phone AlexisH.
    Do you have these 2 different usernames in Palm desktop? If you do you, make sure you are sync'ing to the username that is listed in hotsync on the phone. Go to hotsync on the phone and look in the upper right cornmer of the screen. This will display the username you are sync'ing to in Palm desktop. Is AlexisH the username you are sync'ing to in Palm desktop? If not, then the changes you make on the device will not be sync'ed to Alexis0
    If you want to clean uninstall and start again, use the export function in Palm desktop to backup your data. Here is a procedure below to backup your data;
    The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
    Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
    Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
    With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
    Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
    With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
    Another option is to copy the username folder in the Palm folder on the C drive of your PC. With this backup you can only use this folder in the same version you curently have installed.

    On both my wife's and mine palm centro phones, hotsyncing  stops/hangs on "synchronizing pics & videos"
    It used to work..
    a few questions:
    1) can I "debug" the sync--i.e. get a verbose log file of what's going on?
    2) Does this problem pertain to the *quantity* of pics/videos
    3) as a follow on, what about "finer control" over synching pics/videos/media? if I put a 300mb .mp4 file on my palm via the microSD card, how do I tell hotsync "don't synchronzie this".

    The issue could involve the number and size of files it has to sync.  How long have you let Hotsync "hang" before shutting it down?  Large files take a lonnnnnng time to Hotsync.
    Also, what version of Windows and Palm Desktop are you using?
    Try disabling the pics & videos conduit in Hotsync Manager to get past the clog and make sure there's nothing else bogging it down.

    When a sync hangs on a component of Palm Destop, it usually means the data is corrupted in that component. The calendar is the culprit most of the time.
    Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
    To install the program, set all conduits to "do nothing" except quick install or install if using Palm desktop 6.2.
    After you install the program on the handheld, run the scan and also scan for Blobs in the calendar.
    After you clean-up the database on the handheld, set the conduits in hotsync to handheld overwrites desktop and perform a hotsync.
    If you need more info. regarding DBFixit, there is a PDF manual on their website.
