Hotsync Manager issues from previous palm program

Hi all.  I thought I had deleted all my older palm desktop files before installing the desktop for my new TX.  I can hotsynch in safe mode or by using the button on the USB cord.  But, whenever I try to go through hotsynch manager nothing happens, it is as if it was never installed, just the icon.  I tried reinstalling the software but with no luck.  today i went into the program files to see if hotsynch exe was there.  The only hotsynch I could find listed my older palm user name and a last synch date of 2007.  I have tried to change the defaults but it won't let me without a password (which I don't have) and will not let me delete it.  Any thoughts?

Are you looking in the correct location for the Hotsync'd files?
With the Palm TX and the newer Hotsync software, on a Windows machine, your Hotsync'd files are under your "My Documents" folder instead of the old "C:\Program Files\Palm\YourHotsyncID".
The path to the Hotsync'd data is something like this:  C:\Documents and Settings\YourWindowsID\My Documents\Palm OS Desktop\YourHotsyncID

  • My retina display has shadows from previously opened programs

The retina display on my 13" Macbook Pro is stained from a previous opened program. I frequently work with MO Word and I recently realised it has a shadow on my display. It's a perfect match with the Word's layout, as it has "printed" its image on the screen. It's really light but undoubtedly there. How to reset or restore it?? Please help!!

    Hi Userless,
What you are referring to is image persistence. That is something that can happen depending on use, but will go away over time with general use. Take a look at the article below for some suggestions to prevent that from happening in the future.

  • Upgrading from previous palm device

I just upgraded to from the Palm Treo 650 to the Palm Treo 755P and it sucks. Does not work with my new laptop which is Vista 64 bit system. It's too bac Palm put out a phone that does not work with a faster and more secure system. My question is why would you sell a phone that is not compatible with todays updated technology.
and by the way trying to get info through support is absolutely mind boggling as to how difficult it is to reach anyone from Palm.
Between my experience with this phone and my carrier TELUS MOBILITY (who don't know the meaning of service) and trying to reach someone from Palm I have been totally turned off on this palm product. Out of approx 10,000 Realtors in our Province I'm sure their are going to be many more with the same feelings.
Come on Palm step up and get this problem solved for us.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

    (1) I think HotSync is not going to not work with 64-bit Vista via USB any time soon. Are you sure your laptop does not have Bluetooth built in? It's a fairly common feature these days. If not, you can add it on. You might want to check with the manufacturer regarding compatible or internally-installed accessories.
    (2) Beaming between a 650 and 755 should work, as far as I know. Can you beam to other Palm devices?
    (3) If the speaker is broken, try to exchange your unit under warranty.

  • I seem to have inherited a lot of issues from previous macs i've had over the years resulting in my present iMac (21" 2.9Ghz i5) behaving strangely! Its slow on start up, and safari settings seem to reconfigure themselves ?? Any idea's ??

    iMac 2.9Ghz intel i5
    8GB
    21.5"
Data migrated from a macbook pro and previously from an older iMac.
Can I restore to a clean start-up and re-install apps (docs, photo's music etc)from time machine without
bringing the issues that are causing a few issues.
ie Some web sites will not open ( I have checked that the sites are live).
    Slow start up.
Some web sites ask me to check cookies- I've not changed them, and the problem is not constant ? (Safari is main browser).
    Any advice gratefully received.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Color management issue from Photoshop Acrobat

I'm having an issue that I believe has been isolated to Acrobat X related to Color Management, but was referred to this Photoshop forum because more experts in color management tend to read here. My thread in the Acrobat forum with several updates on tests is here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4646650#4646650
The short version is that any RGB image I create in any app (including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, a non-Adobe app with Word, and Acrobat's own PDF from Screen Capture feature) displays in both Acrobat X and Adobe Reader with dull colors, very similar (if not identical) to how an RGB file with full intensity colors (i.e. R255 or G255) looks when converted to CMYK.
I've tried numerous settings in the Color Management system, and have Synchronized my Color Settings via Bridge across all Adobe CS6 apps. I've tried synchronizing to both the default North American General Purpose 2, and the (sometimes suggested) Monitor Color, using a calibrated profile for my Dell display from OS X's built-in tool. Have also tried various settings of Preserving Embedded Profiles, ignoring them, Assigning a new Color Profile to a document, turning off color management completely, etc. No change in result.
I have a multi-monitor setup (3 external Dell displays connected to a Macbook Pro, 2 of them via USB video devices), but I've also tried making each display (including the laptop's built-in display) my Primary monitor and can see the color shift on each one, so it doesn't appear to be a calibration issue.
This issue is on my Mac at the office. I have a similar setup at home (albeit a MacPro 1,1 vs. a laptop) but with the same Dell monitors and CS6 software installation, and I can take the same document (whether it's InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop), make a PDF of it, and it displays with 100% accurate colors when viewed in Acrobat X.
In addition to the tests mentioned in my original thread, I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Acrobat X and Adobe Reader.
I believe the issue is related to Acrobat, as I can repeat the issue with no other apps than Acrobat in the workflow: if I display a full-intensity RGB image on screen, then use Acrobat X to create a PDF from Screen Capture, the resulting PDF immediately shifts to the dull colors.
Have also thoroughly checked through Acrobat's preferences, as it seems almost as if there's a setting somewhere along the lines of "View all PDFs in CMYK color gamut", but no such setting exists. I did a complete uninstall of Acrobat X as well, which I imagine would also dump its Preferences, so it would be a clean reinstall.
Another interesting note: Apple's Preview app seems to display the PDF with accurate RGB colors, so I know the PDF actually has the correct color definitions intact. But the same PDF opened in Acrobat X or Reader side-by-side displays the dull colors.
    Any thoughts?

i wasn't able to follow your lengthy post, and the color management chain is too complicated (for me) to address here other to say Acrobat reads tagged elements and converts their colors to Monitor RGB (so you must have stripped the profiles in the PDF, and the Acrobat CMS is applying or passing through the wrong profile)
further, if you don't want to rely on profiles, your safest bet (for screen viewing) is to CONVERT everything to sRGB (but i would still include the profile in case someone wants to display or print the document 'accurately'
Here is a look at a several critical color setting in Export to Acrobat that control: Downsampling, Compression, Color Conversions, Destination, and Tagging (click on image for blowup):
    PS:
these panels were grabbed from an InDesign Export PDF process, but Photoshop should have similar options somewhere

  • Data transfer from old to new Palm using HotSync Manager and iSync

I'm upgrading from a Palm m515 to a Palm TX and want to quickly and easily transfer all of my data and applications. I'm using Palm's HotSync Manager but not the Palm Desktop software -- I'm using Apple's iSync to synchronize my data with iCal and Address Book.
Can anyone tell me what steps I should follow to safely accomplish the transfer?
I was hoping someone had written a guide to this, but Web searching revealed nothing. The best info I found was on Palm's site, but these pages don't take iSync into account and assume people are using Palm Desktop:

Just use Migration Assistant when you start the new machine. You can choose to migrate from either the old MBP or your TM backup.
If you have already taken delivery of the new machine and are using it you can still do this by running Migration Assistant.
    It's pretty simple process.

When I reinstall desktop 4.1.4 (from my Tungsten E), it will hotsync the first time and ONLY the first time, and then each subsequent hotsync ends with the TX soft resetting itself.
    What is going on?

  • ISync Palm Conduit cannot be configured with the HotSync Manager UPDATE

First, I apologize for the SPAM-like posting of the material below in the existing threads regarding this issue. It is—unfortunately—the most effective way to garner the attention of earlier posters and gather this information.
Apple continues to investigate the issue, and needs this information to isolate and identify the problem. It is characterized by the apparently successful installation of the bundled iSync Palm Conduit using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option in iSync 2.4 with either Mac OS X 10.4.9 or 10.4.10, but with the result that this conduit—normally visible in and configurable with the HotSync Manager—cannot be seen and therefore not configured.
In order to help Apple software engineers isolate and identify this issue—if you are affected by this specific issue—can you please provide the precise build number for the operating system on the machine that exhibit this problem?
To do so, select About This Mac from the Apple menu, and—beneath the Mac OS X label—press the Version 10.4.9 or Version 10.4.10 label. That value will change to something like 8P1xxx. Please respond to this message with that build number, the version of Mac OS X 10.4.x you have installed, and the last three digits of your machine serial number.
Thank you in advance for providing this information.

  • Cannot download hotsync manager portion of Palm Desktop

    Hi,
I am unable to download hotsync manager for Palm desktop. The error message reads "the application config launch services has unexpectedly quit".
I am however able to download it as another user so the problem must be something in my folder? I have tried running disk utility and getting rid of any applications I am not using, to no avail. I am completely unsure of how to go about finding out what is preventing this. Should I buy one of those programs to clean up my harddrive? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Click on the folder in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon and then open the folder Library, followed by Preferences. Move anything in the Preferences folder which looks like it may be related to your issue to the desktop; if the issue persists, create a new folder on the desktop and move additional files to it. After each group of files has been moved, check if the issue still exists, and continue this process until the problem file has been isolated or you've run out of possibilities.

  • Palm HotSync manager includes outlook conduits?

I'm assuming that the newest versions of palm desktop and hotsync manager that are available to download already include the Palm Outlook Conduits? I distinctly remember in previous versions the huge caution statement saying that they were only available from the original installation CD, but it looks now like they are included in the download. Is that correct? and if yes, how would i go about upgrading - just install the new version over the old?
    thanks

Correct Outlook conduits are included with the download of palm desktop, as for uprading your current version. If you wish to upgarde to palm desktop 6.2 you can install that directly overtop of any existing software. An upgrade to any other version of palm desktop will however require you to uninstall the software before installing anything new.

  • Palm TX HotSync Problems with Windows Vista (DeskTop V6.2.2 HotSync Manager V7.0.2)

I have recently had to re-install DeskTop on my Windows Vista PC and at the same time updated to V6.2.2. but the HotSync manager gets to "Synchronising Date Book" and just hangs up until I close things with Task Manager. I've tried re-booting my PC reloading the software and soft resetting my TX but so far I haven't found a solution. Can anyone help please?

When a sync hangs on a component of Palm Destop, it usually means the data is corrupted in that component. The calendar is the culprit most of the time.
Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
To install the program, set all conduits to "do nothing" except quick install or install if using Palm desktop 6.2.
After you install the program on the handheld, run the scan and also scan for Blobs in the calendar.
After you clean-up the database on the handheld, set the conduits in hotsync to handheld overwrites desktop and perform a hotsync.
If you need more info. regarding DBFixit, there is a PDF manual on their website.

  • Transfering data using switch device manager from old palm to new curve 8330....please help!!!

Trying for hours to import data using switch device manager from old Palm Treo and Palm Desktop 4.2 to my new Blackberry Curve 8330.  Blackberry seem to connect...but second step of choising Palm or Mircrosort will not allow me to select anything.  I do not believe Palm is connecting...Is my palm to old?  If I cannot tranfer data this way, especially contacts is there any other way besides entering it into Blackberry one by one?

    Hi there!
If the device switch wizard is not working, check this KB to be sure all of your Palm things are compatible and that you are using the correct process:
KB05459 How to use the Switch Device Wizard to switch from another smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone
And then see this KB for some troubleshooting help
KB10722 BlackBerry Desktop Manager does not detect the Palm software when using the Switch Device Wizard
And if it happens that it will not work, then you will have to find out how to export from your Palm to an ASCII or CSV file...then you can import it with this process:
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
Good luck and let us know!

  • Goods Issue from ECP with Batch Management

    Hi experts,
I would like to make a Goods Issue from Execution Services in Easy Cost Planning. But the material has Batch Management active and I am not able to inform the batch.
I know I can make the same movement from MB1B but I would like to do it from the Easy Cost Planning environment.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks

    mforman wrote:
We already have the batch and deactivating batch management has no sense.

    Dear,
I think you can solve this through your Characteristics in the Costing Model. In the Characteristic Edit Screen, Goto Values tab, Select your material and click on Object Dependecies Button, see if you can use or create a new Dependency for your material for picking or suggesting batch number.
    Hope this helps...
    Thanks,
