Hotsync operation interrupted isync

I have a palm Tungsten E and eachtime I try to sync it with Isync I keep getting this message.
"hotsync operation interrupted some of your data was not backed up."
I have tred removing some of the conflicting conduits but this has not resolved the problem. Would appreciate any help/ suggestions.
Thanks
imac Mac OS X (10.4.2)

You can disable the Palm Memo [singular] conduit. It is an earlier articifact from a prior Palm Desktop installation, and was replaced by the Palm Memos [plural] conduit.
It appears that it is your Backup conduit which is triggering the error. Your HotSync log should provide more detail, but you can temporarily switch it from Backup [or Restore from Backup] to Do Nothing or disable it entirely by moving it to the Disabled Conduits folder. That should result in no error condition, but you will have to examine your HotSync log to determine why the Backup conduit is generating this error.

  • HotSync was interrupted

I have a (new) mini Mac OS-10 since my previous one died, it is on an office network.
My Tungsten E2 would sync fine with the old one but not this one. When I hotsync, this is the message I get.
The HotSync operation was interrupted. Some of your data was Not backed up.
I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled it several times. Nothing changes.
In the log,  Task, Memos, Contacts, Calendar and Address book have this message, "Whatever Program Name(Task, Memos, Contacts, Calendar or Address book) " could not open "User Data" because it is not a Palm Desktop file.
Can anyone help me fix this?
    Thanks, I hope.

I, too, need help, as I have had a similar problem.
I had an iBook and a Tungsten E.  When I upgraded to a Palm TX, the hotsynch continued to function just fine.
I just got a MacBook, transferred what data could be transferred.  Now my Palm TX HotSynch is interrupted and does not update files.  calendar and address book have been modified on the Palm Desktop.  I get the same message Tweety got:   could not open "User Data" because it is not a Palm Desktop file.
I've read thru much of the HotSynch trouble-shooting.  HotSynch is enabled.  Cables are correct.  HELP!   I updated my Palm desktop.  I'm running Mac OS 10.5.4.
I just got a Time Capsule, which is working wirelessly with my MacBook.  If I understood how, I MIGHT ???? be able to HotSynch wirelessly with the Palm???  Is that possible?
Running out of problem-solving enduance here.
Thanks if you've got a solution!

  • Data transfer from old to new Palm using HotSync Manager and iSync

I'm upgrading from a Palm m515 to a Palm TX and want to quickly and easily transfer all of my data and applications. I'm using Palm's HotSync Manager but not the Palm Desktop software -- I'm using Apple's iSync to synchronize my data with iCal and Address Book.
Can anyone tell me what steps I should follow to safely accomplish the transfer?
I was hoping someone had written a guide to this, but Web searching revealed nothing. The best info I found was on Palm's site, but these pages don't take iSync into account and assume people are using Palm Desktop:

Just use Migration Assistant when you start the new machine. You can choose to migrate from either the old MBP or your TM backup.
If you have already taken delivery of the new machine and are using it you can still do this by running Migration Assistant.
    It's pretty simple process.

  • ISync, Palm Treo 650, and my sanity

Just bought a Palm Treo 650 this evening and I'm having the hardest time.
Been trying to iSync via USB with mixed luck. I installed the software that came with the phone, made sure my HotSync settings were correct, and hit the Hotsync button on the USB cable.
Nothing happened for several tries. Was as if the cable was broken as the Palm just couldn't contact the computer and would eventually time out.
Then when I used the AC adapter along with the USB I got a different result. The Palm and Mac were now talking. But it did give me errors regarding the conduits being in conflict. So I changed the settings on some of the conduits and I finally got a successful sync.
Well semi-successful. Some of the stuff didn't seem to be syncing. Like some of my iCal entries. So I found an article showing how to drag some of the conduits to the Disabled folder. Which I did. And now ever since I cannot seem to get the the Palm and Mac to talk again. I get the "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" for a while and then the "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Would really appreciate some help/advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are apparently several issues in play here. So long as you are willing to live the the limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit and synchronize via only one path—either USB or Bluetooth, but not selectively moving back and forth between the two—you can configure iSync to synchronize contact data with the Address Book and calendaring and task data with iCal.
With the exception of non-conflicting conduits like Memos, you will be unable to synchronize at all with the Palm Desktop. [Palm conduits which conflict with iSync are those used by various models to synchronize contacts—Address Conduit and Contact Conduit—those used to synchronize calendars—Calendars Conduit and Datebook Conduit—and those used to synchronize tasks—Tasks Conduit and ToDo Conduit.]
Unless you thoroughly understand how this technology works, it's not a great idea to 'experiment' by moving conduits manually. A properly configured Conduits folder for iSync users should contain at least…
    • Apple [the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
    • Backup
    • Install
    • Memos Conduit [only if you want to continue to synchronize memos to the Palm Desktop]
    • any non-conflicting third-party or additional conduits you want to use
Other conduits should reside in the Disabled Conduits folder.
You add a Palm device, either via USB or Bluetooth, using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync. You set the synchronization parameters for your device in the drop-down configuration pane exposed when you press the Tungsten icon in the main window of iSync.
You did the right thing by installing the Palm Desktop software using the bundled CD-ROM that shipped with your Treo 650. But, you should have upgraded that application by applying the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
If you elect to upgrade your copy, just run that installer. Do not attempt to remove any existing components of the Palm Desktop. And keep in mind that though you may not choose to use it at all, its HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components are critical to the operation of iSync.

  • Treo 650 won't connect to isync

I've read literally every thread on every site on the internet, and cannot figure out what the problem is. My Treo 650 will hotsync just fine to palm desktop, but when I Enable Palm OS Syncing in isync, and go into Hotsync Manager's conduit settings to enable isync, I get nothing. I try to hotsync and it just stalls...like it can't connect to the computer at all. I've got isync 2.3 and the newest Palm software (rev D) installed on my ibook g4 running 10.4.8. The craziest part is, I NEVER had a problem with my treo/ibook syncing until I had to send the ibook in to Apple to repair the hard drive. I got my computer back wiped (expected and backed up), and reinstalled user folder. I also have the same exact results (sync to palm desktop fine, but not with isync) on my mom's imac g5. any help would be greatly appreciated.

sorry. What I mean is...I enable palm syncing in isync, disable the proper conduits, go into Hotsync, and "enable isync for this palm device" and after all of that, my treo will not make a connection with the computer. But, it syncs fine to the palm desktop software if isync isn't enabled, making me think I have an isync problem. The log on the treo says everything was fine, because its referring to the time i backed everything up to the palm desktop software. The error message i get when i try to sync the phone says
"the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. please check your setup and try again."
and the log on the computer says nothing, because as far as it knows, I've never had a hotsync operation completed, since the phone doesn't ever connect. (the successful hotsync to palm desktop software was on my mom's computer...I was just troubleshooting seeing if it was my computers problem).

When I synchronize my palm TX to my desktop (mac) it pauses for a long time (5 min. or longer) showing status: syncronizing iSync Conduit.  After that it shows the following error: "The Hotsync operation was interupted.  Some of your data was NOT backed up."  I'm not sure what this means, or how to solve the problem..  I have not had this problem before.  I've checked isync settings and have reloaded the Palm software on my computer.  Not sure what to do.  I really need my calender and other aplications to sync.  Please help!

  • RE: Help! Bluetooth Hotsync Failure w/ Treo 650, Leopard, & Bootcamp

I need to Hotsync my Treo 650 under both Mac OS X v.5 (Leopard) and Win XP on the same machine running under Boot Camp. Before Leopard, I was able to do this via Bluetooth (cable on Treo 650 does not work right at all) without issue.
Under Leopard, when I try to Hotsync, I get the error, "Unable to initiate Hotsync operation because port is in use by another application". If I Delete the device from the Bluetooth list and setup the device from scratch, it works perfectly and continues to do so while in Leopard.
But when I go to Win XP under Bootcamp and try to sync, I get the same error message all over again. To fix it, I delete and recreate the device setup in Bluetooth and it syncs just fine while in XP. But when I return to Mac OS X, I am back to the same error message and must delete and recreate the device again.
Does anyone know how I can set up the Treo 650 so that I don't have to delete and recreate the Bluetooth setup everytime I need to sync?

Thanks Michael, your answers in all the other threads I've read appear to be to the point and helpful.

To the best of my recollection, the 9/16/08 Date Book HotSync failure shown above roughly coincided with the onset of similar failures when I have attempted to HotSync the same Treo with the Windows XP Pro box I use at work.  I don't know whether the HotSync failure on the Windows Vista Box I have at home preceded the failure on the XP box I use at work or vice versa, but I have to wonder if a HotSync failure for an App on one box can trigger similar failures for the same App when one attempts to HotSync it on other boxes.   I've trolled this help forum and haven't found any leads.  I really need to get my calendars at work and home back on the same page, so I would greatly appreciate suggestions. jfzaehringer

There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.

    • Sync worked (no data on Palm Desktop, but everything backed up ok), HotSync even recovers and creates a new user based on the data on the device, and even backs up all the programs.
    • Enabled Palm Os Syncing from within iSync (works fine, so long as the account being used has read/write permissions to HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync:Conduits)
    • "Enable iSync for this palm device" from the iSync conduit within HotSync Manager.
During a sync, iSync kicks in and "connects", but can't get past AddressBook syncing, and never actually sends info to the Palm device. Presumably, this is where the "NULL message" is received and syncing stops. When I specify "Erase data on device then sync" in iSync (for first syncronization), it does indeed erase address book data on the device, but never sends anything to replace it, but also does not touch the calendar data on the palm device.
Furthermore, I tried the same procedure when logged in as another administrator account (what is normally the main administrator account on this computer), and synced first without iSync, then enabling "iSync for this Palm device". Under this other account, the syncing works. I can add events to iCal, and contacts to address book, and they are transferred sucessfully and synced with the palm device. But it still does not work when logged in as the main user (even when administrator privileges are enabled, which I normally don't want), which actually has all my iCal and Address book data (which syncs successfully through .Mac with my computer at work).
There should be plenty of free space on the device for all my calendar & contact data (3MB).
Given that syncing DOES work for one administrator user (which was never before set-up for this), but not for the user that was imported from 10.4 and was syncing successfully before, I have a suspicion that there's either some leftover files that I missed, or a permissions conflict within the user's home folder that I am missing. Has anyone else been able to resolve this issue, or have any suggestions based on this information?
    Much appreciated.

    Experimentation reveals that:
    • replacing the old addressbook data with blank allows syncing to work without problems.
    • having multiple groups causes the same error: BUT only on the first sync (set to “Erase data on device then sync”, but also if set to “merge”). Adding groups after a successful initial sync did not interfere with further syncs.
    • deleting groups from existing AddressBook data does allow a successful first sync.
    • but adding them back in again breaks the sync.
Having no groups would seem to allow a successful sync.

I don’t want to have to limit myself to this. I do use groups rather a lot and it would be frustrating to have to give up using them just so I can sync my Palm in Leopard.
The following does NOT solve the problem:
    1. Move old Address Book data to a backup location (after exporting AddressBook library)
    2. do a first sync
    3. re-import full Address Book data from archive
    4. continue with regular syncs.
    • only sync one Group still leads to the same error.
    • iSync 2 doesn’t run under Leopard (error message along the lines of “You can’t use this software with this version of Mac OS”).
    • I also tried to use the previous iSync palm conduit (v3.0.2 instead of v3.1.0), but got the same errors.
For now, I removed all the groups and synced my contacts to my Palm, but I then turned off syncing for contacts within iSync, so I could recover all my Address Book Groups. Fortunately, I need to update Calendar information more often than contact info, and I won’t be able to change contact info on the Palm device. When I do want to do a periodic update to my Palm device, I will have to:
    1. Backup my address book
    2. Delete all groups (but not the contacts within them, which stay in the library itself)
    3. Turn contact syncing on in iSync
    4. Sync the Palm device
    5. Turn contact syncing OFF in iSync
    6. Recover my Address Book Library & groups from backup
Not as simple as I would expect from Apple software ... I hope this issue gets fixed in iSync 3 (Leopard).

  • Hotsync Log does not show any information since August 2008. My Treo 755p has been syncing fine but nothing shows in the log!

I just noticed that when I am done syncing, the Hotsync Log does not have any information about the most recent operation.  In fact the date of the last entry in the Log is August!  Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix this?
    Thanks.

Now I know I've lost it--I'm replying to myself!  Would you smart tech people please take a look at what I found and see if it means anything.  Thanks!
    Two more clues:
    1) I was searching the Palm Knowledgebase and found out where the HotSync Log file is.  When I open the file, using Explorer, this message pops up: 'To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this web page from running scripts or ActiveX Controls that could access your computer.  Click here to...'  If I allow it to run, the screen blinks but nothing seems to change.  If I close the Log file and reopen it, it happens again.  How can I stop this from happening to the file?  Could this be the problem?
    2) The Knowledgebase Article below tells how to create a new 'fake' log file to 'fool' the HotSync Manager.  So I renamed the original log file, then created the new file as instructed.  Then I did a HotSync.  After the HotSync completed successfully, I opened the HotSync Manager and there is my new 'fake' log file that has only the words I typed into it when I created the file. Nothing in the Log about the operation at all!
Article ID: 38959   What does the error that ends with 'HotSync.log is missing' mean and how do I fix it?
The HotSync Manager is very particular: if it doesn't find things exactly as it expects, it won't work. One of the things it has to find in the right place is the HotSync log, a file where the HotSync manager records everything it does. See How can the HotSync log help me to troubleshoot HotSync problems? for more information about this file.
When you get this error, your HotSync Manager can't find the HotSync Log. This prevents you from performing a HotSync operation. Luckily, the HotSync Manager isn't too bright. Give it any file called HotSync.log and it will be happy again.
The easiest way to give it what it expects is to create a new text document, rename it, and put it in the folder where the HotSync Manager expects to find it. Here's how:
Launch the Windows Notepad. You can usually get to it by clicking on the Start Menu, choosing Programs, then Accessories and finally Notepad.
Type some text. You can type anything you want, as long as there's at least one character in the Notepad document.
From the File menu, choose Save As.
In the Save dialog, navigate to your user folder in the Palm or Handspring folder (find your user folder).
Name the document HotSync and click Save.
Launch Windows Explorer. You can get to it by double clicking on My Computer or by clicking on the Start Menu, choosing Programs and then Windows Explorer.
From the Tools menu, choose Folder Options.
    Click on the View tab.
Uncheck the box next to Hide file extensions for known file types.
    Navigate to your user folder.
Right-click once on the HotSync.txt document, and select "Rename" from the menu. Rename the file HotSync.log
Attempt another HotSync operation. If you still get the "HotSync.log is missing" message, contact Handspring.
