HotSync Palm 680 to Mac

Hope someone can help me, I'm not very computer knowledgeable... I'm having trouble connecting my palm to my desktop when it does connect it says - This installer is not compatible with your device. Please contact the manufacture for a compatible installer. I don't understand, it has connected before and now it doesn't?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (AT&T)

Thanks for the suggestion. I was trying to back up the info on my phone but I kept getting the message that the installer was not compatible with the devise. Why did it work before and now I can't do it?

My Palm 680 just goes to hotsync mode right away when it's turned on!! I reformatted the phone and it still does this!! What can I do to solve this issue??? It was working great 2 days ago?!!

So you have done a hard reset on the Treo and it won't stop?
When you did the hard reset did you get the "erase all data" message?
Try this procedure to see if you can get it to stop. Take out the battery, wait for at least 30 seconds for the Treo to completely power off. Take some rubbing alcohol and use a small amount on a lint free cloth. Clean the contacts on the sync cable connector on the Treo. Let the alcohol dry completely and then insert the battery. Power on the Treo and see if you still have the same issue.

  • Syncing Treo 680 with Mac PIMs (using Missing Sync)

Thanks to Michael Lafferty's excellent advice, I was ready to start syncing my Treo 680 with Mac's PIMs using Missing Sync. However, after extensive research and asking questions on five different forums, I'm getting conflicting advice. H
    Here's my Treo PIMs situation:
    Calendar 802K (6378 events/12 categories)
    Contacts 1285K (2306/13)
    Memos 184K (52/14)
    Tasks 79K (250/10)
Here are the issues that I have received conflicting answers about:
    1. I have 9 custom fields on my Treo with a lot of information in them. These are critical fields to me. It took me many days to pull this info out of my Contacts notes and enter in these 9 custom fields for 2306 contacts. Is it true that I cannot sync these 9 customs fields with Mac's Address Book? I've been told many times that this won't happen. If it can be done, will changes that I make in data entries for these fields in the Mac Address Book sync properly and be reflected on my Treo.
    2. Can the conduits be set to "handheld overwrites Mac"? I've been told that it cannot. This and #1 are deal killers for me.
    3. I have seven phone fields on my Treo. They are in this exact order:
    work (1701 entries)
    home (209)
    Fax (291)
    email (201)
    mobile (201)
    pager (31)
    main (145)
Will I be able to successfully sync these with Mac's Address Book? If not, is there any reason that I couldn't take whatever fields won't sync and move them to some of the Treo 9 custom fields? The last question is moot if custom fields are not supported.
    4. I average about 12 categories for each of my 4 PIMs. Do these all sync over correctly to the Mac PIMs?
    5. I also have Treo notes attached to many, if not most, of my Contacts, Calendar events and Tasks. Will these all sync properly with the Mac PIMs such that I can make changes on either side of the equation and have them reflected after syncing on the other side?
    6. Are there any other limitations in my ability to faithfully be able to recreate my 4 Treo 680 PIMs accurately and completely in the Mac PIMs?
I realize that any reference to non-Address Book PIMs is off-target. I hope you'll excuse me dumping the other three PIMs into the mix. My primary concern is Treo Contacts/Mac Address Book.
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Treo 680 (DateBk6)

Q: I have 9 custom fields on my Treo with a lot of information in them…
A: The Missing Sync does not synchronize custom Address Book fields between a Palm device and your Address Book application, but will not remove those fields from the Palm if the conduits are set to synchronize. If your conduit is set to the nonstandard Overwrite handheld with desktop data, the custom fields will be overwritten. I point this out because it is, at times, necessary to make a choice like this, and as a result: its bye-bye custom field data!
The Missing Sync cannot perform custom field synchronization because the Sync Services framework does not allow The Missing Sync to create new fields in Address Book to match your Palm custom fields.
Q: Can… conduits be set to handheld overwrites [desktop]?
A: No, because again, the framework does not support this specific type of bidirectional data transfer.
Q: I have seven phone fields on my Treo…
A: This is an issue primarily with the manner in which a Palm device handles such information. Though they are displayed in a particular manner on your device, they are not necessarily stored in a specific order by the Palm contact application, and can only be retrieved when labeled with an expected or 'accepted' field label. This issue gets complicated quickly, but in short…
    • only the first seven phone numbers sent to your device by the framework are written to the device
    • the order is not something that can be controlled by a developer, and it is not necessarily the order displayed in either the Address Book contact record on your Palm device
    • the Palm contact application does not distinguish between phone number and electronic mail address, though Mark/Space parses the data to look for the @ character—and, finding it—handles it as an electronic mail address
    • only one of the several IM addresses you maintain in an Address Book contact record is transfered, and only one URL is transfered
    • Palm categories are mapped to equivalent Address Book groups
As to synchronizing additional data to Palm custom fields, that's not supported. The place to put such data is in the Note: or Notes: field.
    Q: I average about 12 categories…
A: As I suggested above, category and group equivalents are recognized and synchronized. Be sure that you name the ones you intend to synchronize identically in both environments.
    Q: I also have Treo notes attached…
A: Again, these should synchronize bidirectionally, without issue.
Q: Are there any other limitations in my ability to faithfully be able to recreate…
A: Oh, yeah: because the data field labels and contents do not map 1:1, it is nearly impossible to create identical records in both environments. Look for the common abilities…
    • a maximum of seven telephone numbers and electronic mail addresses
    • a single IM identifier
    • a single URL
…and work within those bounds. You can generally store and synchronize any additional identifiers in a Note: or Notes: record, but this is clearly less flexible and potentially more problematic than storing them in matching fields.
You briefly mentioned the other PIMs on your Palm device, and their OS X rough equivalents. Those controlled by Mark/Space OS X bundled applications will not be an issue: memos, for example. Their are Palm OS quirks which result in inequalities. The most obvious of these is the iCal multiple day event which spans two or more days in iCal, but which is represented on a Palm as only a single day event, displayed on the first day alone.

  • Sync Palm treo with Mac and Windows

Have a Palm Treo 650 for both personal and work use. Unse a Windows box at work and a Mac at home. I can sync the Palm with my Mac, and I can sync it with Outlook in Windows, but doing this leads to problems, especially multiple entries in both calendar and contacts.
What I'd like to do is set the Palm up to sync with Outlook on the Windows box, and have it overwrite the data on the Mac when I sync at home. I can't find options for this in iSync 2 (merge data or overwrite device).
    Any suggestions?

  • Any new info about being able to sync my iphone 4 with the Palm Desktop on macs running snow leopard?

Any new info about being able to sync my iphone 4 with the Palm Desktop on macs running snow leopard? Why doesn't someone take a a few hours and write a workaround so I can sync all my info including my Palm notes to my iphone via Palm Desktop without putting it in the clouds or making it complicated?  : (

I feel your pain.  I am a long time user of Palm Desktop/Claris Organizer and have an iPhone that I really can't sync except by doing an export and import into iCal, etc.  You might try Missing Sync.  I have been working intermittently with writing a replacement for Palm Desktop, but I've only gotten as far as dumping out the information for everything (except repeating appointments) as an XML file.

  • Access Memos from Palm Z22 to Mac (10.5.4)

Is there a way I can sync my Palm to my Mac and then be able to access the Memos? I bought a keyboard for my Palm and used to use it to type notes in class (back when I had a PC and could access the Memos on the desktop) but there won't be much point if I can't transfer the Memos to my laptop. Any help?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

    Hello!
To xfer those Memos from you PalmOS device to the Mac, you need to install the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 for Mac.  You can find it here.  Its virtually the same thing as the PC counterpart but with some subtle Mac-specific features.

  • Palm 680 battery change

I love my Palm 680, but have recently changed the battery and my phone stopped working. HELP! I switched the battery and charged it. The phone turns on and I can occassionally call my voice mail (which does no good b/c the phone isn't receiving any calls). I can access and use the calendar and most of the functions work, but I can't make or receive calls. Also, there are little quirks here and there that aren't working. I put my old battery in because I thought the new battery was at fault, but there's no difference in function. Can anyone help? PLEEEEEASE?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

You have the curse of the 680! I know because I have two of them so I'm sure I can have one available to use. I have had the same problem you have and I'm beginning to think that when the battery starts getting low the phone does crazy things. I can have a fully charged battery on hand and install it and it still won't turn on. I have to plug in the charger and wait about 15 minutes and then it will turn on and work great from then on.

  • Troubleshooting Address Book issues using Palm Desktop for Mac (v. 4.2.1) and a T3?

Can someone please make suggestions which would correct the following issues?
    1) When printing an Address Book from my Mac, the information in the "title" field prints twice. (I have checked my Preferences settings & reviewed how I have entered the information, etc. and everything is in order; also, an Address CARD DOES print correctly --- and --- after syncing to my T3 and then to my husband's PC, an Address Book prints correctly from the PC.)
    2) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "zip code" entries appear BEFORE the "city" entries on the T3. (The zip codes appear correctly on my Mac and print out correctly.)
    3) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "contacts" all appear in BLACK on my T3. Is there any way to show the different "contact categories" in COLOR on the T3 as they were originally entered in my Palm Desktop for Mac?

  • Palm 680

My Palm 680 crashed and I have all my information saved on my desk top in the palm formate How can I convert it to outlook so I can keep my contacts, calender, notes in tack.
Post relates to: Treo 680 (AT&T)

Hello Mfaithwalker and welcome to the Palm forums.
The free method would be to export the data from each of the Palm Desktop personal information manager applications to a comma separated file (.csv) and then import tham into Microsoft Outlook.  The good part about this is that this option is free, however, the data doesn't export out of Palm Desktop in the exact data column order that Outlook uses.  The down side is that you will have to do some experimentation to load the data into Outlook and have everything line up in the correct fields.
The expensive answer is to use a converstion utility like Chapura Pocket Copy that will "push" your data from Palm Desktop's databases and move it into the correct fields in Microsoft Outlook.  Pocket Copy will run you about $30 and is available online from www.Chapura.com.
If you search the forums either here or at Brighthand.com you will find some detailed information on how to move your data into Outlook.

  • Mac hotsync - Palm V

I recently moved from a PC to a Mac desktop and and installed the necessary desktop software to support my Palm V.  Everything appears as if it should work fine but the handheld cannot find the desktop for a hotsync.  In addition, the Mac OS (10.5.5) does not appear to know that the handheld is connected.  The connection to the cradle seem ok and I don't know what to do next to diagnose the problem.
    Post relates to: Palm V

Thanks much for trying to help.  Yes, I do have hotsync enabled.  I know that my problem is that I don't have a driver installed on my Mac for my Airlink 101 that connects the serial cradle to a USB port.  Airlink has no Mac OSX driver for that device.  I've ordered an IOGear cable.  Hopefully, that will solve the problem.

  • Viewing Chinese characters in old Palm Desktop in Mac OS X 10.5.8?

    Hello.
My client used his old Windows 2000 SP4 Dell PC for his Palm Treo 680 desktop, Hotsync (backups too), and Palm Desktop with English and Chinese data (characters with CJKOS -- http://www.dyts.com/en/products.html ). He finally switched to his 3+ years old
MacBook Pro with updated Mac OS X 10.5.8 since Palm finally released software for it compared a few years ago. However, Mac's Palm Desktop, iCal, Addressbooks, etc. do not show these Chinese characters.
Do you know how do we display Chinese characters in these program? Other programs like Office 2008, Firefox v3.6.25, etc. show and input Chinese characters just fine. I know we have to use TwinBridge CJK/Chinese Partner v6.0 in Windows 2000 SP4 to show them so I assume it is similiar for Mac OS X. TwinBridge doesn't seem to have a Mac OS X product port. Is there a similar program (free preferred)?
    Thank you in advance.

Hi, no idea what Palm uses, but on Mac Apps might do a Get Info on them & see what Languages are checked...
The languages options were greyed out and could not add languages, so I had to log into the administrator-level account to add but Finder asked me where which I didn't know. I only saw the common/popular foreign languages (French, Spanish, and German) for Palm Desktop. No Chinese ones. I tried Apple's Address Books, and I saw Chinese and they were checked in non-administrator account. I guess that's not the problem.

  • Sync Palm m500 to Mac OS 10.4.3. Possible?

I've just moved from using Mac OS 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 and I'd like to sync my "old" Palm m500 to it. With the previous OS I had Conduit manager v 3.2 and I could sync with no problems whatsoever. Now I wonder if I can sync Palm m500 with Tiger. I've been checking in Palm and Apple sites but I haven't found any useful information. Reading some of your comments in the forum I realize I might have problems using the new version of isync. On top of that I know my Palm is not precisely the latest model, but it works so well I don't fancy buying a new one. Can somebody help? Thanks.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Palm recommends that for the m500 series of handheld organizers, that you install the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 version A, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421.html
With this handheld, you need not first install software from the CD-ROM that was supplied with your device, as it does not contain unique software for your device.
After installing the Palm Desktop, Apple recommends that you first synchronize with it prior to configuring and using iSync. Once you've done that, launch iSync and select Enable Palm OS Syncing… from the Devices menu, and follow the instructions which appear. At the conclusion of this step, your device will appear in iSync. You can then press the Palm icon in its main window to drop down a configuration pane, which lets you specify how iSync interacts with specific contact groups and calendars.
If you intend to synchronize with other devices, including .Mac, you should also open the Preferences… dialog under the iSync menu, and check or enable all three options under the General tab. Then, each time you synchronize, you should…
    • launch iSync
    • select Sync Now from beneath the Sync Status icon in your menu bar, and
    • press you HotSync button when prompted to do so by the dialog
And, when you've successfully done all this - and find youself unhappy with the manner in which iSync performs - you should consider purchasing and installing the far more flexible, robust, feature-rich and reliable synchronization software from Mark/Space: The Missing Sync for Palm OS. More information about that package is available here:
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php
One caution: The Missing Sync for Palm OS should be installed only after you have successfully synchronized at least once with both the Palm Desktop and with iSync.
