Hotsync trying to connect and eventually shutting my phone down

In less than a year, I have had a Palm Centro and a Palm 680. Both phones suddenly started Hotsyncing without me prompting them to do so. My wife liked her centro so well that we decided to just replace it with the 680, and within two months the same thing happened. Is there something I am missing here? The phones were purchased primarily for the texting features, we do not use the phone for internet... just to talk ad text. Also, we didn't connect the hotsync whatsoever, until the second one started the same problem. We have tried the soft reset and hard reset to no avail. Can someone offer some advice or are both my phones trash???

Hello randy728.
While I have no definite answer as to what is wrong with the phones, I can tell you that we know for a fact many phones that begin to exhibit the behavior you describe have gotten wet at the HotSync port on the bottom of the device.
When a certain two of the gold connectors get shorted together, it is like pressing the HotSync button on the cable that comes with the device.  I'd look for some evidence of this happening, and if any corrosion or other gunk is present remove the battery and clean the port with either "Contact Cleaner" (available from electronic stores) or isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip.
