  • Palm TX but want to HotSync with the Palm Calendar NOT Outlook!

I have a Palm TX with Palm OS Garnet v.5.4.9  I like using the calendar and tasks etc that come with the Palm operating system but from what I can tell I can only sync with Outlook!  Outlook will not print all my appointments off for the week, I have too many and it will cut them off on a print out.
There has got to be a way I can use the calendar I love so much from Palm.  I've been using an old Palm IIIe and IIIx and upgraded to the TX.  This is a deal breaker, I hate Outlook its not functionable for me with what I do.  Does anyone have any ideas here?  When I hotsync nothing shows up on the Palm Calendar or Tasks etc.  I have the Palm Desktop by Access application 6.2.2.  I've gone into the HotSync Manager setting but my only options are listed as Calendar (Outlook), Contacts (Outlook) etc and I can change whether the handheld or desktop override the duplicates.  THATS IT!  Should I uninstall and reinstall an older version?  Will the Palm TX work with that?  Its 4:24am my time and I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out the fix for this.  Got to sleep but will be checking for any answers!
Thanks for any help I can get!

Hello livingny, Welcome to the Palm Support Community.
Try throwing the "switch" to sync with Palm Desktop.  Somehow, it appears to be set to sync with Outlook now.
On your PC go to:  Start Button/All Programs/Palm/PIM Conduit Sync/Sync with Palm Desktop.
That should redirect the info back into Palm Desktop's Calendar app. at your next HotSync.

  • Palm Vx meets Windows 7 64 Bit - I want to HotSync my old Palm Vx's with my new desktop PC. Anybody know whether this will work out?

I have 2 old but beautiful Palm Vx's that still serve me well. I have a new Windows 7 - 64 bit desktop PC and cannot get them to HotSync. The new desktop has no COM3 port and the serial to USB adapter cable I have doesn't help. Does anyone have any ideas how to help this May/December relationship work out?
    Post relates to: Palm Vx

UPDATE: My problem seems to have disappeared!  I am mystified.
Fearing I might lose all important Vx data, I switched to an old XP desktop (32bit) and installed Palm Desktop/USB to RS232 adaptor. After some fiddling with port settings all went well and was relieved to make a backup on the old machine.
This morning, returned to the new machine (Sony VAIO with Windows 7 Premium (64bit) and ABC Products adaptor (uses Prolific driver) in a more relaxed state of mind. Powered-up tried a hotsync; then started Palm Desktop and all was there and visible.
I can only suggest that the full 'power-down and restart' overnight must have performed a necessary re-initialisation.
I now subscribe to those indicating that Palm Desktop 4.1.4 can work with Windows 7 (64bit). Note that Windows 7 Premium does not support XP emulation.
I hope my report will encourage others who wish to hang on to old Palm PDAs.
    ======================================================================
I note many others have trodden this path and it still seems that Palm, or latest acquirer, wants to keep out of it!
My XP laptop just recently died and I now have a Windows 7 replacement with no RS232 port. I have been trying to get linked up via the USB port, using an adaptor, so that I can have a backup for much valuable info on my trusty Palm Vx.
It is very frustrating; almost works but not the final step. I can see the files have transferred from Vx to Palm Desktop 4.1.4. (using MS Notepad) but when I view using Desktop, it does not "see" them. The Notepad view reveals "padding" characters in the files. I am confident that this cannot be attributed to the USB/RS232 adaptor or related software; I believe it to be the Desktop software.
Would Desktop 6.2 be a viable approach to try with a Vx? Are there any third-party patches for 4.1.4 to overcome the transfer problem. I am perplexed to see that others seem to have made it work on 64 bits.

  • Accessing Old Palm III Data

I stopped synching to the handheld about 1 year ago and just continued to use the desktop to enter data. I recently moved into a new Visa desktop PC and installed the Palm OS that supported my old setup.  I don't remember the exact way I had my user name entered (only know it used to store in an "EJ" folder) .. can't figure out how to load the old data. I figure it was intentionally made difficult to prevent hackers and theives - but I've grown attached to my old data (just not my old PC or the old device).  Time to upgrade - but if I can't even access the data ... what incentives do I have?  If I have to start over I'll just create an Access database form.

Do you still have the data in Palm desktop on the old PC? If you do, you can export the data from each category, save to a flash drive, cd-rw or hard drive then import the data into Palm desktop on the new PC. You can find out the username that the handheld is using by going into hotsync on the handheld and looking in the upper right corner for the name.
If you are copying the userfolder to the new PC, paste it into the Palm folder on the PC. See if that may work. You can only do this if you are using the same version of Palm desktop.
If you don't sync the handheld to the PC, if you lose data there is no backup file you can rename to recover the data. When you sync with the handheld, Palm desktop creates 2 files, for example; datebook.dat and datebook.bak. If you lose data in Palm desktop you can rename the .bak file to recover the data provided you have only sync'ed once.
Here is a procedure for backing up your data, especially if you do not sync.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • Synchronization with old palm to new palm

I just got a new palm tungsten T2.  I have the exact same model that I have all my information on.  I am trying to get my information to my new palm by using the computer. (The old model won't let me beam).  The problem is it will not transfer all my information to my new palm.  Any help would be greatly apprediated.

When you say it will not transfer all your info, does any data sync to the handheld?
If all your data is on Palm desktop, set the hotsync conduits to desktop overwrites handheld. Hard reset the T2. Connect the T2 to the PC and start the sync.

  • Mac software for Palm III?

Hello. While I was cleaning out my cupboard, I pulled out my old 3Com Palm III and the HotSync Cradle that I had with it. I was wondering if someone had any software for mac that could communicate with the Palm III. If there is any software, I'll buy a Serial to USB adapter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Palm III

Being a newbie to the forum, not sure where to post this question/information. I have an older Palm III, a few years back used it for paperless caching. I use the palm on my old PC, XP version. I now have a laptop with Vista. I have installed my old copy, ver. 4.14 of Palm to my laptop, and having a little trouble with the dang hoysync, ing. Anyways I set up to hotsync, and get a few strange messages, while hotsyncing. First on the Laptop screen while hotsyncing...(restoring handheld databases), On my palm screen (synchronizing CarrierProfile2), (synchronizing imgfile-stream), (synchronizing jpeg-stream), (synchronizing network profiles2). After all this syn'ing, in which it takes several min's, stops and gives me a message on the palm screen Fatal Error, Fatal Exception. Hate to throw the old unit in the garbage. Any solutions folks or will I have to purchase something that perhaps Vista will take, or is it just me doing something wrong. Thanks for reading this post.

    Yes they (I) will!
Since you're using Vista, you're going to run into problems with the older Palm desktop.  Quick Install will no longer work.
What version of Vista is it?  32bit or 64bit?  Most new PC's come with the 64bit version which provides a whole new set of problems!
Have you read through the sticky post at the top of this section concerning Windows 7 and Vista Hotsync instructions?
On the second page of that post, (message #20) there is links to both version 6.2 of Palm Desktop and a free helper program from PimlicoSoftware.com.  It may be necessary to use both of these to get things working on your laptop.
    SO!
If you have a 32bit version of Vista, then I'd recommend a clean uninstall/reinstall of Palm Desktop.  If that doesn't work, then try the 6.2/PalmHotSyncsetup solution.

  • Need a method for importing Palm III data into a Palm Centro

I just bought a Palm Centro (Verizon), with the expectation of importing data from my old Palm III.  From the Palm III Desktop, I exported Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Memos into separate folders (this was done on a Windows XP PC) and copied the resulting folders & files onto a flash drive.  But when I try to import these files into the Palm Centro desktop (on a new Mac Pro with OSX), the backup files are not in a "recognized format."  Does anyone have a process for reliably getting the Palm III data into the Palm Centro?  Also, is there an easy way to purge unwanted Contacts/Calendar events from the Palm Centro handheld?  With all the trial and error, its accumulating a lot of garbage.  Thanks...

  • Unable to HotSync with Windows 7 (64bit)

I wonder if anyone has had any success of using hotsync with a Palm Z22 (handheld).  I do not have bluetooth on this laptop, only wireless.  The error message is that I am missing a hotsync driver.  I called Palm and was told that Windows 7 does not support hotsync.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Folks, did you read the post about getting a "Bluetooth Dongle"?   Walmart.com has them for as little as $15 US.  This easily adds BlueTooth capability to any computer via a tiny device that attaches to a USB port.
Palm is not going backwards - it has discontinued PalmOS devices quite some time ago, and has moved forwards to webOS!
Workarounds have been offered here in this forum.  You can choose to follow them or not, your choice.

  • Palm III won't connect to software

Hello. I have a 3Com Palm III PDA, and a Serial to USB Adapter I got off eBay (seller was Colordrives.) I downloaded the software for the Palm III off Palm's website (4.2.1 Rev A) and installed it. I tried to connect the Palm III to the software and it just isn't working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You might checkout *Missing Sync* from MarkSpace.com (commercial product).
I use Missing Sync for my Palm based Sony CLIE TH55. Palm stopped updating their Mac software several years ago and have not kept up with operating system changes. MarkSpace.com has stepped in to fill that gap.
I do not know if Missing Sync will work with your Palm III, but it is worth checking out.
The other thing you might try is going over to 1src.com and doing some searches. You may find some already posted information over there. 1src.com was a major Palm related forum. I learned a lot over there with regards to Palm and my TH55.

  • HOTSYNC WITH PALM DESKTOP LOCATED ON AN EXTERNAL DRIVE

I've been hotsynching between my desktop, laptop and Z22.  Recently I replaced the desktop harddrive with a much larger one.  I put the old harddrive in a USB external drive housing and now have a nifty 40 GB external drive.  Does anyone know how I can hotsync the Z22 one last time with the Palm Desktop info on the external drive?  Then I'll install Palm Desktop on the new harddrive in my desktop, and hotsync from the Z22 to the new harddrive.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Is all your current data on the Z22? If it is, install Palm desktop on the new hard drive and sync the Z22 with desktop overwrites handheld selected in hotsync manager.
Another option is to install the version of Palm Desktop that you were using on the old hard drive, copy the username folder on the old hard drive in the Palm folder, Paste the username folder into the Palm folder on the new hard drive. Open Palm desktop and the data should be there.

  • In windows 7 I can hotsync with Desktop 6.2 but I cannot change mail hotsync to Outlook instead of Palm Desktop

    Can anyone help me?
    I have a new computer with windows 7 (64bit).
My Palm device is a Tungsten T5
I tried first to install Palm Desktop from the CD (to be able to switch to outlook sync). But this version will not install.
Then I installed Palm Desktop 6.2 and I am able to Hotsync (via bluetooth) between Palm desktop and my Tungsten.
For Mail, Calendar etc I want to Hotsync with Outlook. But I cannot get that working. Tried to install outlookconduiter, but doesnot work.
Probably I need some code which normally will be installed from the CD. But that installation will not work.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thank you in advance
    Chris
    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

    Hello Alan,
Thank you for replying my message.
But I think I did not explain my problem good enough.
I will try to be more explicit:
I know that I don't need to install an outlook conduit. And I already am able to hotsync with contacts, tasks, etc. Only e-mail will not hotsync. The log says ok at versamail entry, but I did not find new mailmessages on my Palm handheld.
In my Tungsten I have setup an e-mail (veersamail) account.
On my old PC under XP I did setup (long ago) a versmail account seperatedly. When I tried to do the same under Windows 7 an error says: you must first install a Versamail conduit before you can setup a versamail account (on my PC)
But my versamail conduit is on the CD I got when I purchased my Tungsten T5. But installing from this CD is not possible under windows 7 (it hangs). When I identified I therefore installed Palm desktop 6.2, which does not include the Versamail conduit.
I did inspect the original CD but I cannot find anything of versamail. It is included in carrierfiles, I think. But I don't know how to extract and how to find the files I need for the versamail conduit.
    What can I do?
Only buy a new Versamail conduit??
Or do you know other ways to get the versamail hotsync working?
    Regards,
    Chris Beumer

  • Palm m100 HotSync with Outlook 2007

I have a Palm m100 which I routinely HotSynced with an old Windows ME computer.  That computer died, and I now have a Windows 7 machine with Outlook 2007.  What software should I load on my new PC in order to retrieve my Contacts from the Palm m100 and copy the Contacts into Outlook 2007?
    Post relates to: Palm m100

Unfortunately what you are asking for is something that we do not support. As a suggestion on how this might be accomplished you would need to install Palm Desktop 6.2. Normally that may be enough. Also we have not done testing on windows 7 to know if Palm Desktop will work on it reliably.
It also might be time for you to upgrade your device to push the chances up of this working correctly. Palm Desktop 6.2 was not designed to work with the m100 while the TX and Tungsten E2 where. Some older device may work due to other customers on this site stating they have it working for them.

The best way is to install the Palm desktop version you had with your device and hotsync. If your device is still working install the Palm desktop to your new computer and run a hotsync with the conduits set to handheld overwrites desktop. If your new computer is a 64 bit version of windows 7 read the post 64bit drivers are here. This post has the liink to the driver and install directions. Aceeca 64bit driver
