HotSynch issues: can't change any settings in User Accounts, can't rename or delete, can't sync!

Hello,  I am running Windows XP Pro Version 5.1.2600.  My wife and I both have Palm Treo 700p smartphones running Palm OS 5.2H. 
Her phone has been having continual issues with some third-party software.  Each time we would attempt to sync her phone after installation we would get the same error message:
HotSync Exchange synchronization failed
HotSync Error: Unknown error. (FE00)
We have tried to contact the software developer for the third-party application with no luck.  They simply insist that there is nothing wrong with their software. Mind you, the phone would always sync with no issues before we installed the third-party software, but that's neither here nor there.  Point being her phone would not sync no matter what I tried.
I searched the troubleshooting articles for HotSync issues and found that the only solution that might help would be to update our Palm Desktop from version 4.2 to  6.2.  After installing the new Palm Desktop I was able to sync my 700p.  However, when I attempted to sync my wife's 700p it still did not work.  When I tried to access the HotSync log on the desktop it would only show the log for my phone.  Her name would show up in the list of users, but once I tried to select it my name would appear in the window.  When I attempt to open the "User Accounts" window in the HotSync Manager the application freezes and I must shut it down.  I am unable to delete or rename the User accounts.  
Now we are stuck not being able to sync her phone and not being able to fix the issue.  She has a lot of files on her phone which she spent a lot of time working on, hundreds of hours, to get them where she needs them.  Our concern is that in the process of fixing the HotSync issue she'll lose her work.  We need a solution.  Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Versamail is a email application on the device. As for the backup folder you may have renamed it follow these steps (You may not need to hard reset the device. You can skip that part)
To fix this what we need to do is hard reset your device. The instructions to do that is here http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/887_en.html this tells you how to do all types of resets. Also, what we need to do is rename your backup folder. What this folder is, it hold all your programs from the last time you synced your PC. On your computer go here
Palm Desktop 4.2 and below
My Computer--> C drive --> Program files --> Palm/PalmOne--> your hotsync username
Palm Desktop 6.2.2
My Documents/Documents --> Palm OS Desktop --> your hotsync username
Right click on your backup folder and rename it to "backupOld". Resync your device to the same user name and you will get all your contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos.
You can install the programs again but make sure they are compatible with the device. Also try one program again and wait 24 hours to see if the same thing happens again. This way you know what program is causing the issue.

    Questions:
    What happens when you put in an email address in an event? (Make sure the email address is also in your addressbook (Macintosh HD > Applications > Addressbook)
    Are you using calendars that show up under "On My Mac" on the left hand side of iCal or are the calendars under a different heading?
    Troubleshooting:
    Make sure that you can send / receive email in the Apple Mail program.
    Make sure that the email address in Mail > Preferences > Accounts is also on your Addressbook card:Go to Addressbook > Card > Go to My Card -- The email address you are using to send receive messages on your computer should be on this card.
    If that doesn't take care of it:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
    Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
    Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
    --- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.

As far as i know, i have not changed any settings.  This is whle my phone is locked both on the slide up toolbar/menu interface and on the normal screen before i slide to unlock.

    I skimmed through this very long post but from what I read, this sounds much more like a coverage issue with your network than a device issue.  I have not seen or heard of this issue before and I do not have this issue personnally and & I use the music app quite frequently while working in the yard.
    The DND feature should not be a factor at all if you're sure it's turned off.  I always recommend restarting your phone by holding down the home button + the lock button for 10-12 seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Once the phone reboots, do a test to see if this has helped to resolve the issue.
    If not, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.  Then, test it out again.  Post back if neither of these solutions solve your issue.

    Nevermind.  Asking this question gave me some related questions that actual solved my issue.  I had "auto-proxy" discovery on for some odd reason.  Turned it off, and all is well.

    Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.

    If I understand correctly you can send mail without issue, but you cannot receive new email. I would recommend you use these steps specifically from the following article, named:
    Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    Restart your iOS device.
    Delete the affected email account from your device.
    Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Tap the affected email account.
    Tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.

    I have the same issue. It began with my 3GS some time around september-october I believe. I purchased an iPhone 4 in November and it does the exact same thing. I did restore my iPhone 4 to a backup from my 3GS when I got it. I have the latest versions of iTunes/iOS. Ok now my iTunes library is on my laptop with 32-bit Windows 7 Pro. I have moved my library from a machine running 32-bit windows xp pro to the laptop running 32-bit windows 7 pro. So I'm wondering if possibly either restoring from a backup, or moving my library has had anything to do with it. Just trying to figure this out...
    Apple. ***!?!? Get on this. I am an avid podcast listener and I sync daily to keep my podcasts fresh. I already have to physically connect my iPhone to the computer because iOS doesn't support wireless syncing. But now on top of that I have to hit cancel or apply after EVERY TIME I sync my iPhone.     You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection<br />
    If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy"

    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
    Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
    Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

        I'm sorry to learn that you have endured the audio issues outlined in your post for almost 2 years SusanLM1! This is certainly not normal! Let's get to the bottom of this issue, first please confirm your phone model; your mention that you have the iPhone 5 but your post is on the iPhone 5S forum. Also, share the iOS version currently installed on your phone. What is your ZIP code? Does this happen mainly while you make/receive calls from a particular location (home, office, etc)?

    I think you won't be able to access or get facetime as facetime is banned in certain middle eastern countries.
    Check the model number of your phone if it has AE in it, then you won't have facetime.
