House Cleaning internal HD

My HD says I have 74 gb with 72 being used. I want to try and clean it up so I have more space. I know I have two backup folders one in HD that says it is incrmental backups of home folder. that have occurred every week since May. How far back can I delete? that would give me 6gb if I got rid of most.
I also have another backup folder in my home folder, that is incremental backup of Home folder 2. I don't have a home folder 2 that I see. It looks like home folder 2 Backup is quite a bit larger backup being done each time and less often.
Also it seems I have a Previous systems folder that was formed in Jan. I think becuase I was having problems with one of the Tiger 4 updates. IT is about 6gb of space too. I had heard that after a while you could delete the contents of that foldder if you don't think there is stuff you need out of it. Is this true? If there is a file I need will OS search in the previous folder or only in the current system folder? If I have not noticed I needed it by now then I guess it is not important. That would free up space.
any other areas I should look to free space? I do not keep much media on computer. I try to store on external HD unless I am editing.
Thanks for your help

is it unusual to have 2 home folder backups. I am still trying to figure out if I can get reid of one of them. Thanks

  • Software Update Service house cleaning

What controls house cleaning for the Software Update Service? If I ask it to stop mirroring updates that have long since been applied, the files still hide in /usr/share/swupd/.
Deselecting the mirroring of an update doesn't help.
The normal house keeping tasks don't seem to clear it out.
I could just navigate to the directory and delete by hand, but that just doesn't seem The MacWay™...

This is probably because you had it set to copy everything automatically in the first place and then you switched that option off. We run into the same problem and, unfortunately, you just have to bear the huge download of the last 4 years worth of Apple updates... Once that has been downloaded SUS will obey new settings. You may need to manually enable the updates if you changed that setting since the download started.
Mind it, since you would have everything there anyway there would be less of an issue leaving on the automatic download option...

  • Cleaning internal cd drive

I have a 2008 iMac.  I'm trying to import some CDs to ITunes, but the cd drive is making an awful noise and it makes iTunes stop responding.  The actual CDs are completely fine.  How do I clean the internal cd drive?  Can I use a CD cleaner that I would use on a regular CD player?

Go to your local office supply store (Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, etc...) and ask for a CD/DVD drive cleaning kit. Then follow the instructions on the kit.

  • House Cleaning My Mac.

    Hello all,
I'm in the process of upgrading my G4 "digital audio" and was looking around inside when I saw what appears to be a dust RHINO!!! Seriously, the holes for the case fan are probably 95% blocked. So, now I have disassembled my Mac to a point. I have the plastic side cover is off, fan carrier is out and in the dishwasher ( I really is that bad!), the fan is laying on a table contemplating being replaced, and now I gotta clear those holes. Aside from canned air, any suggestions? I really don't want to hurt my computer but I think it will be much happier if it can breathe. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • House Cleaning - Combining Three Existing Libraries Into One

We have one existing iTunes account on our personal computer (Windows XP) and want to keep it that way but we want to do some housecleaning to maximize our iTunes/iPod experiences.
XP allows us to have three different users (myself, my wife and our son), each user has their own iTunes Music Library again, all under one account - mine. We'd like to do the following and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    1. Combine all libraries into one (mine) and then everyone would go there for purchases, ripping CDs and synching and listening while we're at the computer.
    2. My wife has a first generation Shuffle and my son a first generation Mini that we'd like to clean out (reset I guess) and allow them to rebuild their own iPod libraries out of this new combined library that synch only when and to what they want them to.
    3. I'd like to add my own New iPod Nano that also would only synch only when and to what I want it to.
Agian, any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.
    Dell Dimension 4300   Windows XP

There isn't any way to combine multiple ITL files into one.
I assume this is the case, you each have an ITL file in your Windows profile:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
But what you CAN do is consolidate each library to a shared folder.
And either leave each other notes when you've bought new stuff, so it can get added to each library; or invest in some 3rd-party software like TuneRanger that can monitor the shared folder and add it to your library for you.
You're probably still going to have to look through yourfiles to see what duplicates have been bought.
I haven't shelled out the money for TuneRanger, but it looks iek it has some nice features.

  • In-House Cash - Create Internal Payment order

    Hi,
I have a requirement to create a In-House cash Internal Payment order (T-code IHC1IP) using a custom program. We will submit a flat file containing all the information required by IHC1IP, like:
    Bank Area
    Debit IHC account
    Credit IHC account
    Posting date
    Currency
    Amount
    Payment Note
to a BAPI and the BAPI should create Payment order.
Can anyone tell me if there is a standard BAPI for this purpose? If so what is the name of the BAPI?
    Thanks
    Kalyan

    Kalyan,
    >Can anyone tell me if there is a standard BAPI for this purpose?
    For  the following alone - Bank Area,Debit IHC account,Credit IHC account,Posting date,Currency Amount,Payment Note, I doubt it.

  • Dual boot with Mavericks and Snow Leopard on Two different internal drives?

I have a late 2009 quad core Mac Pro running Snow Leopard- it has 4 internal HD's.  I want to eventually upgrade to Mavericks.  Before I do a clean install of Mavericks on my start up disk that has Snow Leopard OS, I was hoping I could download Mavericks and install it on another clean internal hard drive to test it out before I commit to erasing my main drive and doing a clean install.  My Mac Pro meets the minium specs to run Mavericks.
If I install Mavericks on this second internal drive can I dual boot using the option key at start up and elect to either operate in Snow Leopard or Mavericks?  What are the concerns or issues I might face if this is possible?
As I have Snow Leopard, I am also unable to produce a Mavericks bootable USB flash drive- the terminal commands don't work with Snow Leopard. With Mavericks installed on a second internal hard drive- will I be able to create a bootable Mavericks USB Flash drive?
    Thanks for any advice.
    KT

    1. Yes.
    2. The Spotlight indexes may be rebuilt every time you switch OSes.
    3. Yes.

  • Wipe macbook pro clean

i've been told it's a good idea to wipe my macbook pro clean (restore to factory) before upgrading from snow leopard to yosemite. seems it might prevent problems, provide a fresh start. i'm all backed up. what's next? opinions about doing it at all?

I'll tell you that have your data backed up and simply install Yosemite without erasing the drive.  There is no point to it.
Understand that there may be some applications (PPC based) that will not work with Yosemite, so be prepared for a little house cleaning and updating.
    Ciao.

  • Is there software like cc cleaner and malwarebytes for a mac

how vulnerable is OS10.8 to malware and viruses? Is there software like malwarebytes and cc cleaner available, or is a purchased version of antivirus software recommended and if so which is best, preferrebly not totally slowing everything down

Some are totally opposed to their use.
Some I venture are against CCCleaner.... because they don't think cleaning temp and cache files are....? or that it "came from Windows world" or maybe the authors don't understand Mac??
I of course had to try CCCleaner - Windows (great product) and Mac (seems safe).
Any utility can be abused. Onyx and Lion Cache Cleaner have long strong support history. And yet if used or over used - and using to 'fix' a problem rather than as mild general house-cleaning and keeping... (If you disk drive has problems, maybe you need to run fsck -fy or Repair Disk Directory or SMART Utility to find if there are bad blocks).
You posted in a forum of non-notebook (tower size, server type cpu)
I get the feeling whether users or type of computer and work, that "my computer feels slow" comes up in Mac OS X forums from notebook owners more often, too often even.
Fragmented free space, low free space, really low, not enough memory, installing too much stuff, or web browsers that leave too much on the disk drive (and don't use quotas or size limits or how many days of cache, history etc).
My experieince: BACKUP and CLONE your system. Try on the clone. Or on main hard drive (but first make sure you've got a bootable backup clone) and test and try out and experiment. Then make up your own mind on your own experience. I would even go a step further: a "test system" computer that you can play with. Try out new OS or whatever on it. A Mini or something is great for that or older and 2nd hand too.
Generally the feedback under products on www.macupdate.com and/or MacIntouch reader feedback have been helpful. Pre-Cnet so was MacFixit but I spend less time there now (they had great support forums at one time 8-13 yrs ago). Especially for Mac OS stuff.

  • Best way to go about a clean install

    Hi!
I'm a recent switcher (5 months), and since I've moved to OS X, I've installed, and subsequently uninstalled, untold piles of crap. Therefore I've decided that together with the external enclosure I'm getting for one of my hard drives, I'm going to do a fresh install.
Because I'd like to make backed-up images along the way of my reinstallation (Clean, clean+apps, cleanappsdocs) I think the simplest way is for each state to be its own volume (on my ext. HDD). Am I right in this? Also, I've heard the term archive+install. Is that ideal?
And finally, is Carbon Copy Cloner the right tool here? Simply: Split my ext into 4 volumes (for this purpose, can have more). Install OS X on the first. CCC to second, add apps. CCC to third, add docs. CCC to fourth for actual use, and once I'm comfortable with that installation, CCC it over to a clean internal.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    hudgie

CCC lets you skip some top level folders, but you actually - if you are moving an entire volume, just need to use Disk Utility Restore.
You can also restore to a sparse.diskimage as well.
There are dozens of ways, but as long as it does what you want, and works (and you have tested that it is bootable) is all that matters.
Archive & Install (to me) is for people that don't have a backup, don't know how to restore easily, and don't have disk or system issues or problems and want to retain their settings. I always erase a drive before installing or restoring. Downgrading the OS with A&I can be tricky.
The easiest way for some is to have a dedicated boot drive with OS/Apps, and use another drive for /Users or home directory.

  • BCM and In-House Cash

    Hi all,
I'm using F110 for 2 types of payments:
    1) "Normal" external AP payments using DMEE to generate payment media.
    2) In-House Cash internal payments using RFFOEDI1 to generate iDOCs for the IHC process.
Ideally, all payments should be sent to BCM for approval - to do this I've added a * to OBPM5 which activates BCM for all payment runs made by F110.
However, when I run the In-House Cash payment run the batch does not appear in BNK_APP for approval.  It also doesn't appear in BNK_MONI or BNK_MONIP.
The run does appear in report RBNK_RULID_EVALUATE with green status and assignment to the correct BCM rule.
It also appears in FBPM1 with green status and has been given a "Payment Medium Run ID" but no iDOCs are generated.
The problem is that, if I exclude the IHC payments from BCM, there is a risk that a user could use the excluded payment run ID for external payments, meaning that the payment media would be created without approval in BCM.
Is there a standard solution for this problem? It seems to me that SAP needs to add support for RFFOEDI1 in BCM or enable IHC to use the DMEE.
    Cheers,
    Jack

    Hi Jack
BCM bank communication managment module only works with PMW, and not with IDOCs using RFFOEDI1. That is the reason why IHC payment does not appear in BNK_MONI
BCN is meant to manage the interconnection between SAP and external banks so i do not see much point in havving BCM batches created for Internal payment from subsidiaries to IHC.
As regards the payment run ID between internal and BCM, could you not implement user exit/BTE to validate against the payment method?
    Hope that this helps.
    Kind regards
    taro
