Occasionally I return to my Mac, which has an open screen sharing connection to another Mac on my network, to find that it's now got an open connection to itself. Very cool effect to see an endless hall of displays within displays. I usually notice the issue because there's now a menu item with "Disconnect 127.0.0.1" in the menu bar.
Any ideas why the machine connects to itself in the first place?

Anyone else having this? House of mirrors with cover flow.
It appears to be a redrawn / VRAM issua. I'm running iTunes 7 on an iBook G3 500 (with 8MB of VRAM). If I choose to thousands of colors or lower the resolution, things work fine.
However, I haven't heard anyone reporting anythin like this. It's also happening in an iMac G3 500.

I'm stuck in an install house of mirrors

I tried to watch some internet content and this drop-down
warning appeared on my web page:

I click yes, then I'm directed to the flash download page. I
downloaded the flash installer, closed the browser, installed the

window I quoted above appears. So again I clicked "yes" (I want to
open the page to get the plug-in), again I'm sent to the Flash
download page, and the exact same routine begins again. I restarted
my computer. No help. I called Adobe tech support. 30 minutes of
talk and the gentleman said "this is strange. I cannot help you.
Try the forums." Okay, forums, please help! Any advice or
directions is appreciated!!

Filesystem space increase help

Hi all,

Software Update Service house cleaning

What controls house cleaning for the Software Update Service? If I ask it to stop mirroring updates that have long since been applied, the files still hide in /usr/share/swupd/.
Deselecting the mirroring of an update doesn't help.
The normal house keeping tasks don't seem to clear it out.
I could just navigate to the directory and delete by hand, but that just doesn't seem The MacWay™...

This is probably because you had it set to copy everything automatically in the first place and then you switched that option off. We run into the same problem and, unfortunately, you just have to bear the huge download of the last 4 years worth of Apple updates... Once that has been downloaded SUS will obey new settings. You may need to manually enable the updates if you changed that setting since the download started.
Mind it, since you would have everything there anyway there would be less of an issue leaving on the automatic download option...

I've had this problem ever since I was at my friend's house- she has Apple TV- and my iPad connected automatically. So, I have no idea why any of the practical solutions that people think of are not options BUT, in terms of just getting it done, I did figure out a way. The key for me was getting near another Apple TV. I was out of town so I took my iPad to another friend's house who also has TV. Once I was logged onto their wireless network (the same network that their Apple TV is on-- that's how it connected in the first place), then the Airplay icon and options showed up from the bottom-draw menu and I was able to make sure that mirroring was turned off from the Apple TV section and to make sure the selection was on iPad instead. Problem solved. Now whether or not this will stay the same (rather than me having to make sure it stays at this setting everytime I link up to a network that has an Apple TV on it) I don't know. So my advice is find someone with Apple TV and connect to their network with your iPad and then change it.

Disk Utility gives error and does not rebuild mirrored RAID

After having a HDD fail on a mirrored RAID I replaced the HDD and attempted to rebuild. Disk Utility reports via Console that it can not find an Apple Boot partition to check size and then fails to repair the RAID. Details follow.

I configured this RAID scheme (two two drive mirrors striped together) according to this kbase document: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304377
As shown in the above "diskutil checkRAID" output I have a failed HDD. So I replaced the HDD with another 160GB cold spare. I added the new drive to the mirror "Mirror_1" also known as disk5 and hit rebuild. Received the normal message that all data on the new drive I was adding would be erased.
I then receive the following error immediately in the Console Log:
Rebuilding RAID "Mirror_1"
2006-12-15 23:50:24.741 DiskManagementTool [375] WARNING: Could not find Apple Boot partition to check it's size, skipping disk5s-1s.
Rebuilding RAID slice "disk4s3"
Just to stem some confusion, the device ID disk4s3 has been used by the system for both the old failed HDD and the new replacement HDD.
The result of this attempted rebuild is I end up with all the data from Mirror_1 on the new HDD but the new HDD is not successfully added to the RAID, therefore Mirror_1 is still degraded and my problem not resolved.
I ran the appropriate rebuild cmd from both the GUI Disk Utility as described and from the CLI "diskutil repairMirror disk5 disk4s3" but no joy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This volume houses a large amount of important data including user home directories so while some offline time may be required data loss would not be very acceptable.

Bought a hdmi cable for my iPhone 4s when I connected it to my tv first it didn't connect saying unsupported signal check device out pitt,after several tries it stared mirroring but the same problem

troubleshoot using another tv maybe at a friends house to see if there are compatiblity issues with your tv model
the other day I updated the firmware in my sony tv so they have upgradeble firmware which could fix problems too

I have set-up my Apple TV through ITunes and on the Apple TV. AirPlay is on. Now I like to know how I can watch a German TV show which I have rot saved on my harddrive, I am streaming it, I can watch it on my laptop screen. I want to mirror it on my big TV screen. I have wireless N, laptop is updated, Apple TV unit is newest model.

AIRPARROT.... hurray!!!!! No iTunes needed. You can do anything on your laptop and it will show up on the big TV screen. After running a free 20 minute test trial at airparrot, I signed up for 5 Apple laptop hook-ups for $30. A great deal as I now can take my Apple TV unit anywhere and just install it through a friend's Apple laptop or my house guests can utilize the mirror feature through their Macs. Yesterday, I watched a German TV channel broadcast on the big screen, reception was almost perfect. Sometimes the picture stuttered a bit but the problem has nothing to do with Airparrot rather with my wireless connection/my speed reception in the different rooms.
I just bought a Linksys Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 Router (E4200v2) to maximize the wireless speed. I will also install the Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N Smart Repeater and Range Extender (SR300. I think I end up with perfect broadcast reception even when others are online at the same time.

Beefing Up a Dual 867 Mirrored Door

I just picked up a used G4 Dual 867 Mirrored Door. I'd like to have it around as a backup for my G5 Single 1.8 - I'm about to get a new Hard Drive for it. Was wondering about the Seagate 500 Gig below. After I successfully install the new drive, was wondering if I should add some other features?
Think it might make sense to get the OWC Processor upgrade? With this upgrade, even though it might be faster than my old G5 single, it still can't go above 2 Gigs of RAM.

Restraint is a great idea especially when your're broke. I really didn't want that processor upgrade when I saw how much it was. I will however pick up that Seagate 500 Gig HD, and maybe I'll spring for the Radeon 9200. That's a reasonable upgrade for still under $200.

G4 mirror door + wireless?

I have a G4 mirror door + broadband connection and want to setup a wireless network as i plan to buy an iBook for internet access around the house.
I think I need to buy an Airport card to go into my G4... is this correct? I'm not sure if i can use an AirPort Extreme Card or if i have to use an older Airport card?? I also presume i'll need an Airport (Extreme?) base station and a wireless enabled modem/router. Is this correct?
As you can see i'm a bit confused as to the varients of Airport...

You will need an original airport card for your G4 MDD. An airport express will work for what you are trying to accomplish. To sum it up in a nutshell, you hook up the airport express directly to your broadband connection. Set up the airport express as a router by checking the box in the network tab of the AE admin utility to distribute IP address so that your AE acts as a wireless router. You could also go with a wireless router like a linksys WRT54G. Like you said you could also get an airport extreme base station but the cost is much higher. You are on the right track but just need to decide on the type of router you want to use.

Mirroring ipad to apple TV dosen't work

Hi i downloaded all my IOS update , but when i try mirroring , i can see the bleu bar on top of my ipad it blinks a few times then dissapear and on my TV i still see my apple TV menu. But i tried it at my friend and it works???? do you think it's my router ??

I think I figured out what my problem is. Even though I am sitting in front of my Apple TV, my iPad needs to talk with my Time Capsule router in order to communicate with my Apple TV. The Time Capsule is on the second floor and other end of my house. Although the Time Capsule communicates with the Apple TV no problem, the iPad has more trouble reaching/communicating with the Time Capsule.
Soooo, I guess the solution is to install an Air Port Express as a "repeater" in my family room so the iPad will talk to it which in turn will send the information to the Time Capsule and then to the Apple TV.

Mirror iPad VGA display

Good morning,
I have the need to show the display of my Ipad on an external device/display to present a demo of an application. After a quick research on the web I found that the only way to accomplish this task goes through jailbreaking the device, thus loosing the warranty.
It looks like there’s no other way but breaking the warranty, so I see two options here:
1) Jailbreak the device and install the tools I need to enable this functionality
2) Give up with this idea, thus reducing the perceived value of my software
I ask myself why Apple is behaving like this! They have the technology to allow such functionality since they already show the ipad screen on projectors during conferences, so why don’t they share what they already have in house?

The iPad does not support mirroring the screen to the VGA output. The units used in Apple keynotes are specially modified to allow such use. Other than using a document camera to project the iPad's screen, there's nothing we can suggest that doesn't involve jailbreaking which we cannot discuss here.
