Hoverscrub in Bridge for video subclip management

I have a library of hundreds of subclips which I use regularly to create mood videos for clients, but finding a useful way to collate and organise them has been difficult, as I want to be able to assign multiple tags for each video. For example, a video may contain a girl framed in a close up shot, holding a camera, smiling, in black and white, shot at 60 fps. Keeping all this data easily accesible to sort through is difficult. Bridge is probably the obvious choice for this due to its ability for metatagging, but I find the Premiere environment much easier because of the hoverscrub feature and the ease of dropping it into a rough sequence. Hoverscrub in Premiere makes previewing videos effortless - Bridge's preview window is a little more difficult to use.
I guess the ideal workflow would be to be able to either save metadata to subclips when you export them in Premiere and have the ability to search through metadata filters in the Media Browser of exported clips, or for Bridge to adopt Hoverscrub. I've explored Prelude, but it is really only useful for ingesting footage and roughing a sequence for refinement in Premiere, rather than subclipping and tagging with metadata.
Is anyone else in the same predicament as me? How are other users dealing with organising their subclips?

Looked at the clip for hoverscrub and read further explanation.  It looks like an interesting way to view video.  But think you are correct when you said Bridge is a photo browser, as it was made to reflect needs of Photoshop.  While video has been grudgenly added  to Bridge and Photoshop, in my opinion, it will always be a token effort.  There is something to be said for not going to the universal program that does it all.  It usually does not do anything real well.
It appears you can add keywords in PP and view them in Bridge.  Here is a copy of a blog to explain how.
The short answer is:
In your Preferences > Media Preferences
choose the checkbox for
"Enable Clip And XMP Metadata Linking Check this box to link clip metadata to XMP metadata, so that changing one changes the other."
This is from:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSAB1EDD0E-ADC2-4a10-B399-...
Not able to test this now....but you might need to put your keywords in to fields that are common to both XMP data and PPro Project data.
Remember there is some distinction about a FILE that lives in the file system versus how that file is used as a CLIP inside a PPro project. (for example having multiple differently trimmed instances of the same FILE as different CLIPS.)  So in some cases in the Project Panel there is metatdata that distinct to the PPro project versus that which is common to the File asset itself.
But as far as creating searchable keywords common to PPro and Bridge, this should be able to be achieved pretty painlessly.

  • Is there a sortking/rating software, like Bridge for Video.

I have a project with a lot of files, and need to do something neat with them.

I use Bridge for video as well, but I'm sure there's a neater program available that specifies in video logging.

  • Bridge for data asset management?

I've been looking for a while for a 'simple' data asset management application.
What it should be able to do or have is:
    1. a simple interface, manageable by anyone.
    2. both mac and windows compatible
    3. drag and drop facilitated for both images AND their description into inDesign.
Why?: we work for a large mall group, that produces some 20 large folders a year. No need to say we have built up an image database of thousands of items, most of which are reused regularly. Locating them for use in a new folder is not such a problem in itself; but reusing the text is. Each time, our client provides more or less the 'same' texts and prices (they retype them), which means that all texts, whether they have been published 10 times before or not, always have to be reread, reviewed by a copywriter, and on top of that, retranslated (in Belgium, you always need editions in Dutch and French). This is a silly and costly situation.
I love to use Expression Media for comparing pictures, and it's drag and drop capable - for picutres - not for text. Bridge doen't seem to do the job either, and it's not an actual database.
So is there a simple way or application (affordable) to get over this problem, without the need of some complicated Unix-based, nerd-interfaced server?

Did you tried to explore Canto Cumulus ?
They have two editions, the 'single user' (very affordable) and a more complex build to order. When you have many users on different locations or use over a network it might be to complex for the single user version I'm afraid ;-(

  • Bridge for mac issues

I have 128gb class 10 sd card as external storage but when i goto bridge for mac>>browse/manage files on device, i cannot do anything other than look at the files on internal/external storage..i can't do anything with them??? what is the point of this feature?
I also cannot use file commander to do anything other than transfer music to sd card. The music files all appear on the sd card as individual music files and not as albums and i cannot create folders to the sd card. This means that I have nearly 2000 music files listed on the sd card. When i run anyone of the music players i have they all appear as contained within an album...so difficult, not straight forward at all.

Using the browse/manage files you can manually copy files to/from your phone. Also open Finder and then use drag and drop to copy files.
To create a folder using File Commander, tap the "+" at the lower left and select "Folder" and type a name for the folder.

  • Bridge for management of archive of footage?

    Hey guys and gals,
My employers are making the move over to CS6 and it has fallen to me to manage a sizeable amount of media.  We have around 200 2TB bare drives of old footage that needs to be organized in one central and searchable database.  So my question is this: is Bridge the right program for this?  Or is Prelude better suited to this task?  Your input and suggestions are appreciated.

I would probably use Bridge for this.  I've also seen it suggested that Lightroom might work.

  • Cannot select iTunes videos for sync with Sony Bridge for Mac version 3.6

    Hi,
    I have a Sony xperia T.
I am running Sony Bridge for Mac version 3.6 (the latest I think)
I would like to sync a couple of movies to my phone so I can take them with me when travelling, but the itunes library movies are "greyed out" and I cannot select them to enable them to sync.
    I cannot see why.
Also some of my music is the same - some albums are "greyed out" and cannot be selected.
Anyone else seen this and worled out the solution ?
if so - please advise !

They are probably DRM protected, if so, you wont be able to transfer them

  • No exposure metadata for video in bridge

Just curious as to why I don't get any exposure data in bridge from videos. The same camera and lens will have fstop, iso, and shutter speed data listed when a photo is highlighted but when a video is highlighted everything is blank. Can't seem to find a reason so if anyone knows I'd appreciate the enlightenment!

What software are you using to convert the videos to iPod format?
If you are using Quicktime Pro, or iTunes 6.0.2 to do the conversion... then that is probably where your problem lies.
Neither QT Pro or iTunes has the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file. You'll end up with video and no sound.
You'll need to use some other software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit SP1, Operating System, Single, - OEM
I have been advised to get a full size case rather than a midi. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

The advice to get a bigger case is correct. That GTX 670 will be a very tight squeeze inside that Antec 902 case due to the way the interior of that case itself was designed: The hard drives will interfere with the motherboard's expansion slots, restricting the length of those cards that will fit to only 9.5 inches long. Unfortunately, although a reference GTX 670 is about 9 inches long, higher-end GPUs will not fit if the PCI-e x16 slot is inline with an installed hard drive.
Speaking of the GTX 670, it is clearly overkill on any system that's equipped with only 16GB of RAM total. Plus, you will need a third-party CPU cooler in order to perform any overckocking whatsoever of the CPU. Unfortunately, the Corsair Vengeance heat spreaders are extremely tall (over 50mm high!) that they will prevent proper installation of any decent tower-style CPU air cooler, especially if all four DIMM slots on the motherboard are being used. You will need 32GB of RAM plus at least a good third-party CPU air cooler such as a Cooler master Hyper 212 EVO (and overclock the CPU to over 4.0GHz) in order for that system to utilize anywhere near the performance capability of the GTX 670.
Third, you do not need that particular Sound Blaster card at all: Its sound quality is surprisingly poor for a such a pricey discrete add-on sound card (or put it this way, it does not sound anywhere close to sufficiently better than on-motherboard audio to justify its cost).

  • How can I create an HTML gallery for video? (in Lightroom..?)

    Hi,
I use Lightroom for photography and am able to create HTML and Flash web galleries using the Web module.  I find this very useful. However, my day job requires I shoot video and needs a way to create HTML galleries that will play video (.mov) files when the thumbnail image is clicked.  I can import the videos to LR and it creates the gallery happily but only goes as far as showing the thumbnail image. It doesn't handle the video at all it seems.
Is there a way to do this? If not in LR, in Bridge or something else?
    Many thanks

    You may need JavaScript/HTML5.
The landscape is changing for video including 14k as an advance on 1080p.
LR6 may have some advances, when launched although unlikely to usurp Premiere Pro/After Effects/Speed Grade.

  • Can you generate a static caption for video in InDesign?

I set up my caption in the metadata description area in Bridge. I am trying to generate the static caption in InDesign and it goes through the motion but gives me a blank box. It works correctly for my images, but not for my video. Can this be done or does it just not work for videos?

Seems like this is not possible for videos. I tried static and dynamic captions with MOV and FLV. No chance.

  • Best categorizing program for video?

I would think that categorizing video clips for easy searches would be getting more and more popular now that hard drive space for storing files is more affordable. I've been trying to get my media organized in FCP and am now realizing that I need a separate program for categorization. Ive narrowed my search to two.. idive and foottracker.
Does anyone have any experience with foottracker and idive? Any recommendations or pros and cons of those programs?
I went through a similar dilemma when I was first trying to categorize my digital camera pictures. Apple did not have iphoto at that time so I bought a 3rd party program (iview) and as iphoto got more and more integrated with other apple software I had to redo all my keywording to work with iphoto.
Foottracker seems to function the most like iphoto for video.. Maybe Ill get lucky and apple will buy out foottracker and make it part of the ilife suite? I have a feeling Ill buy a 3rd party program.. then apple will make an integrated one and Ill have to start from scratch again.
    Thanks!

can iview keep track of time codes?
    Yes, IIRC.
    import video?
    Yes.
break long files into subclips to assign keywords to sections? import into fcp? etc..
    No....
Well, now you've hit on the central point, and why I don't use any of these apps having tried them out.
You know what the best database for cataloguing video is? You're using it. It's called Final Cut Pro. (Or Avid, or your NLE of choice). FCP is the bets place to categorise and sort your footage, and that's just that. Any external software that did it - well, you'd just end up importing that info into FCP anyway.

  • Can I use a WRT54GX2 as wireless bridge for my Blue Ray to an E1000 wireless router?

I recently replaced my WRT54GX2 router with an E1000 for networking in my home.  I now have a Blu-Ray disk player, and thought I may be able to use the old WRT54GX2 to wirelessly bridge a network connection for the Blu-Ray.  I am having trouble fignuring out how to configure it, if possible at all.  Any help would be appreciated

A WRT and a E1000 are wireless routers, i.e. router with an integrated wireless access points. They accept client connections. They don't connect to other access points. They always require a wired connection to your main network.
Running a wire is the best solution anyway, in particular for video streaming and similar.

  • Final Cut Server is for video and photo archiving?

Too many products in the last few years. I used to use iPhoto to archive both photos and video and edit them. Now I have moved to the professional line but it gets more confusing.
Aperture2: archiving and cataloguing thousands of pictures with minor edits
Adobe CS4: major edits to my pictures
FCP6: video edit but with no archiving and/or metadata capability
Final Cut Server: for what? Can it archive/metadata all my video and all my Aperture files and work
seamlessly between all these four programs?
Please help. I am considering buying Final Cut Server. I am both a photographer as well as a videographer running many different cameras over many different kinds of shoots. And I am trying to simplify my work process.
    Thanks,
    Brian

We were in a similar situation as well.
We use Adobe products for photo and desktop stuff
    and FCP Suite for video.
We ingest images with Bridge and add keywords.
The raw files are backed up and the corrected images
are processed (Photoshop/Image Processor) and dropped
into a Final Cut Server watch folder.
This action automatically adds the files to FCS for
easy access as well as backs up the images to an
external FTP in our desktop publishing office across
town. Desktop has its own version of FCS that adds
the new files and makes them available for designers.
When we shoot video we shoot mainly with Sony EX3
camcorders with SxS media. Footage is downloaded
and tagged in XDCAM Transfer. The folder that is
labeled "Import" in the utility is also a watch
folder which added the files to FCS.
So in other words Final Cut Server has us organized
and working together much better than we were before.
