Dont suggest me to " Insert Characteristic as Data Target".

Uploading of master data
Log on to your SAP
Transaction code RSA1LEAD YOU TO MODELLING
1. Creation of Info Objects
In left panel select info object
Create info area
Create info object catalog ( characteristics & Key figures ) by right clicking the created info area
Create new characteristics and key figures under respective catalogs according to the project requirement
Create required info objects and Activate.
2. Creation of Data Source
In the left panel select data sources
Create application component(AC)
Right click AC and create datasource
Specify data source name, source system, and data type ( master data attributes, text, hierarchies)
In general tab give short, medium, and long description.
In extraction tab specify file path, header rows to be ignored, data format(csv) and data separator( , )
In proposal tab load example data and verify it.
In field tab you can you can give the technical name of info objects in the template and you not have to map during the transformation the server will automatically map accordingly. If you are not mapping in this field tab you have to manually map during the transformation in Info providers.
Activate data source and read preview data under preview tab.
Create info package by right clicking data source and in schedule tab click star to load data to PSA.( make sure to close the flat file during loading )
3. Creation of data targets
In left panel select info provider
Select created info area and right click to select Insert Characteristics as info provider
Select required info object ( Ex : Employee ID)
Under that info object select attributes
Right click on attributes and select create transformation.
In source of transformation , select object type( data source) and specify its name and source system Note: Source system will be a temporary folder or package into which data is getting stored
Activate created transformation
Create Data transfer process (DTP) by right clicking the master data attributes
In extraction tab specify extraction mode ( full)
In update tab specify error handling ( request green)
Activate DTP and in execute tab click execute button to load data in data targets.
4. Monitor
Right Click data targets and select manage and in contents tab select contents to view the loaded data. Alternatively monitor icon can be used.

is it possible to upload master into an info object.
I know when I flag the info object as "info area" I can upload texts and attributes by data sources.
But is there a procedure for a normal info object.
Let say.
I have an Info Object Country(char, 3) and a file like

002; Poland;EN
003;Norway;EN
004......
120;Hungary;DE
Is there allready a procedure or do I have to write a program?

Hi Jimbob,
Normally your Characteristic InfoObject are set to become master data if you tick on the;
"With master data"
You can also load text description if you tick on the
"With text"
Both can be found in the Master data/texts tab. 
Now a prerequisite for you to load data in a BW standard way is by going to the InfoProvider tab of RSA1 then right click>insert Characteristic as InfoProvider in the infoarea where you would like to see you master data.
Based from your example your datasource will be your flat file.
So you need to create a flat file data source with the structure of your file.
Once you have this already you can create a transformation under texts of your master data.
(Expand master data, right click at texts>create transformation)
Then thats it.
You can now load your data from your file, just update the infopack and DTP correspondingly on how you would like to do your data loading.
Let me know in case you have further clarifications on the step.

How to load data from info object to ODS

Hello BW Gurus,
Is their any way to load data from info object to ODS and I am unable to fine the Info source for that particulate info object master data.
For ex: we have 0PROFITCENTER as info object which is getting loaded everyday. We want same data in ODS too but I don't find any info source related to this info object to create update ruled.
Please advise me how to proceed with this,

hi Swathi,
as mentioned, if you just need the master data text or attribute update, then it's sufficient to load 0PROFITCENTER master data. (don't forget to 'apply hierarchy/attribute change' - rsa1->tools)
if you are going to update attribute in ods with attribute from 0PROFITCENTER, you can choose look up master data attribute method in update rules.
if the requirement is really need 0PROFITCENTER to assign to update rules, then first you have to 'generate export datasource' for infoobject 0PROFITCENTER, right click the infoobject and 'generate export datasource', then do 'replicate datasource' from bw myself, after that it will available. to display it you may go to rsa1->infosource, and menu settings->display generated objects.

How to load Data in Info Object

Hi, i have a info-object Called "TYPE"
the value for this is always going to be "S1".
I dont want to add it manually as i want this data to get filled up automatically when transported.
the other objects i either get it from R/3 data source or Flat file.
Should i use a flat file to load this single data ???

How r u ?
You could do this in the Transfer Rules, Click the EDIT TRANSFER RULES(Triangle with Grid) icon opposite to the InfoObject. It will show some options like InfoObject, Constant, Routine and Formula.
Select Constant and enter the "S1" value and CONTINUE.
SAVE & ACTIVATE the InfoSource.
***No, the source may be anything, the value "S1" will be transferred for this InfoObject by the Transfer Rules.

In the infocube you have the key. Then you have a text master data table that has as key (for the table) the key of the value (the one in the cube) and the language, and the text in that language as another field (short, med, long).

then which one is the best method lsmw or BDC ?
if we use lsmw then we need to use recording or direct input program.

The basis for deciding which method to upload the master data can be considered on the following:
1. Customer Requirement.
2. Volume of the data.
3. How much effort is required.
4. Whether error handling is to be done explicitly or automatically.
The most preference order as follows:
1. LSMW
Latest tool and less effort/coding is required. It covers all the methods.
- by standard Batch/ Direct input,
- by Batch Input Recording,
- by Buisness Object Method , and
- IDoc ( Intermidiate Document) .
2. BAPI
BAPI is an abbreviation used for Business Application Programming Interface. These are interfaces within the business framework to link SAP components to one another and SAP components with third-party components.
The SAP Business Objects are an essential part of the Business Framework and the prerequisites for interoperability. SAP Business Objects cover a broad range of R/3 business data and processes and can be accessed using BAPIs. The SAP Business Objects and their BAPIs thus provide an object-oriented view of R/3 business functionality.
3. BDC
It can be done in two ways:
a) Session - it handles error implicitly .
Transaction: error handling is explicit.
b) Call transaction is 6 times faster than session .
c) Session can handle multiple transactions while, call transaction can handle one transaction at a time.
d) Session method is used to handle basically very lage amount of data .
What will be the volume of data when we used lsmw for master data.
It depends on the company master data volume in their legacy systems. LSMW can handle huge volume data.

I think you can't display the text element if you display the data in the dso.
In the dso, you will see only the key part.
So you don't have to load the infoobject text into the DSO, you just have to load the infoobject.
In Bex you have the option to see either key,text or both.

How we can upload Master Data?
Which extraction process can be used for Master Data? Can we upload master data from R/3? I can upload MD from flat files. But need a reallife scenario.
In a project, how master data is loaded and how transactional data is loaded in general? Which Extraction processes are most popular for both master and transactional data?
Can anyone help me explaining the activities carried out in a project lifecycle?
Like when we create InfoObj, DS,IS,Infocube etc... when and how to load data into it etc etc...

Yes you can upload data from r/3 ..
The big picture for it, you need to create the master data in BW including trans. stru, trans. rules, data source for it's attributes.
For the r/3 you need to create the data source.
For the detail:
1. Create data source in r/3.
tcode: rso2
create data source for master data using that tcode.
2. Create master data in BW.
replicate the data source (right-click in source system at RSA1 => choose for replicate metadata).
Create trans. stru, trans. rules to the attributes. Make a mapping using those things.
Btw, if you need the text, you can do below steps but for TEXT (tcode RSO2, there is for TEXT).

Upload Master Data GL quicker way instead of using FS00?

Hi Guys
I would like some advice regarding uploading Master data into SAP
As part of my training course we are having to upload live data onto SAP and our trainer has suggested using SM35 and to click new recording then typing FS00 in transaction code and then we put our details for one transaction and then the recording should suffice.
I do not want to manually type them all in using FS00 even though it is only 40 GLs as I want to practice LSMW
Also I have been told of a another way by typing in SA38 then RFBISA00. I have tried this however getting error message Message no. BL001
I know this may sound stupid but the Excel file is saved in a text format do I keep the headers and the rows where it says required or not. Or do I just copy the raw data?

Problems with uploading master data in BI 2004S

Hi all,
I wanna upload master data in FI from R/3 System to BI System. I created its transformation. Then, I migrated it WITH EXPORT option. After that, I created Data Transfer Process (DTP), I didn't change any thing, just "Save and Active". Then I created InfoPackage for it => choose Schedule tab and press Start. Open DTP and choose Execute tab -> press Execute.
1. In the case of successful process (the log showed no errors), How can we check that data is transferred successfully?
2. Case 2: I did all above steps for a data source. But when I opened InfoPackage -> it said "This InfoPackage has been already in Process Chain"... I still continued to execute its DTP but I failed. The log said that the data was duplicated.
What does it mean? And what should I do in this case?
3. Case 3: I have a data souce Account Type with <0ACCT_TYPE_TEXT> (icon dialog). I migrated it but failed. Then, after I refreshed, this datasource moved to the group that had been migrated before (in the end of the tree) but <0ACC_TYPE_TEXT> disappeared.
So, I cannot create DTP or InfoPackage for it to transfer. In this case, Do I have to re-create a DataSource? What should I do?

case 1:
Check there might be duplicate record. as it is a text datasource language may be maintained. U can check in monitor what record is showing error.
case 2:
If u migrate the data source then it is a BI7.0 version.
If u want to recover 3.x datasource then u need to use RSDS .
Then again u can create Data Transaformation and DTP and migrate once again.
then load the data.
Normally if u r working on BI7.0 do all the stuffs(DT, DTP) using 3.X version then do the migration of datasource else if u migrate first and do the transformation then u will have to manual mapping and u may missed and do a lot of mistakes.

ECATT can be used by using transaction code SECATT.
This tool is used for data uploading and regression testing.
You need to prepare a scenario for regression testing.
You should create
1. Test Script
2. Test Data
3. Test Configuration.
If you want to upload master data, LSMW is the best tool.

(call transaction/ session/ LSMW) . why?

depends on how much data you want to upload..
LSMW itself will give you multiple options to load data.
if there is a huge number of records that you want to upload, do not go for a call transaction method, rather use sessions method if you want to use BDCs. explore in LSMW that which options are available for customer data while uploading it.

Problem while uploading master data through two files

Hi all,
When i try to upload master data of CUSTOMER with two files , Attribute and Text.
Text gets uploaded perfectly.
for Attribute, the data upload is done and psa i can see the exact data. But when i check the CUSTOMER object, i am not able to find the actually Attributs data. Instead those colmns are filed with 'E'.
Can anybdy please explain me wheret the problem is.

Hi Sun,
First check the data in PSA whether the records are fine or any discrepancy in them. Also check the properties of the COSTUMER object into which you are loading. The properties "type" or the "size" of the object may not be matching with the same in the file.
Check them and try to load once again.

This just means that you changed the transfer rules/transfer structure and have not refreshed the workbench yet. The infopackage data hasn't been updated ... this is similar to a datasource update, where you need to replicate to make sure BW knows the latest version.
The best way to correct this error is to reload RSA1. Every time I make a change to the tr/ts, I always run /nrsa1 to refresh the workbench.
