How about a mac version?

i used to use cool edit pro (before i switched to mac), but all of my studio friends use protools, nuendo, and logic. given adobe's considerable reputation amongst graphic artists on the mac platform, i'd think that you could really get some market share of the audio world if you went cross platform and added a few of the standard audio recording "must haves" that are being incorporated into every other audio package. adding VST support was a good step in the right direction, but adding stuff like AU and REwire support would be nice. I've always considered cool edit/audition to be superior in it's audio processing capabilities and considerations, but a little bit more coordination with the rest of the audio industry could really open a world of possibilities. i'm not suggesting you go all proprietary or entry level like a lot of the products out there, but i think audition is all but invisible to most recording enthusiasts and music studios. it's just not a blip on their radar. i think a mac version with added features geared towards the logic/nuendo/protools crowd could be a good thing. i don't want to dumb down the power or totally change the feel, just bring it into the current pro audio climate. maybe audition CS3 could flip the audio world on it's head...

At least as good points could be made in favour of a linux version now that
Microsoft will abandon Windows in favour of Vista.
You need to understand that an application that relies so much on device
driver interface as Audition does is a lot less easy to port than an
application that relies on keyboard, mouse or equivalent and screen. By that
logic already the update to Vista compatibility was a move to a different
platform, the differences between Windows and Vista are so large that it is
not just a new version.

My understanding - possibly incomplete since it is a corner of the
application I don't hang out in - is that rewire is supported.

It is in my experience very well sounding.

The removal of the entry level version was a decision to remove a version
that ushered users to the product line, a CoolEdit 2000 equivalent is
currently not avaiable from Adobe, but Magix has some very competitive
prosumer offerings that usher new users in the direction of Samplitude.

I certainly agree that Adobe should start to actually market Audition.

  • How about the Mac mini as an Apple TV with a HD?

Has anyone tried a Mac mini with its HDMI output as a substitute for the now old model Apple TV? Yes, it is more expensive and needs a keyboard but it has a huge HD that could hold all your music photos and video and be located right at your TV. Once it booted you could use Front Row and a remote to control it. Once I saw that the Mac mini came with an HDMI output, I wondered if the days were numbered for Apple TV.
    Any obvious downsides?

Has anyone tried a Mac mini with its HDMI output as a substitute for the now old model Apple TV?
Yes, I did and it works great. It's a Mac, so it has the OS X desktop rather than the ATV media browser, but playing HD video through it's HDMI port is great. It can play all of my iTunes videos in addition to just about everything an ATV can't play. I'm using it mainly to watch Hulu Plus at present.
It has been correctly pointed out in the past that some HD rentals from the iTunes store are available only through the ATV, but the new ATV does not have a hard drive, so direct purchases will be impractical. I expect that rental restriction will change in iTunes 10 as all content for the new ATV will have to stream from another location.

There are millions of Mac users. Amazon Kindle app for Mac and a NookReader app for Mac is now out as a Beta, so I look forward to a Mac IBook reader. Is that in development?

iBooks are for iOS and they are configured for a touch/rotateable platform.

Installed Yosemite on my Mac. CS5 no longer workers. When I try to open Photoshop, I get an error message about needing a Java SE 6. This is different from the other Java update Yosemite required (I already installed that). I assumed the higher update would suffice for previous versions, but I guess it doesn't work that way. Went over to the Java site, but SE 6 doesn't seem to have a MAC version. How can I resolve this?

i just wanted to know if i can download the Mac version and use that cereal number to activate it?
    No.
Serial numbers are Mac only or Windows only. There is a platform swap process (from Mac to PC etc) but only for CS6.
As a CS5 owner, your choices are to either pay to upgrade to CS6 for Mac or join the Cloud.

    Hi scarabs55,
Are you working with Acrobat or Photosohp? (You mention both PDF files and photos, so it's not clear.)
Let us know what software you're thinking about upgrading and we can point you in the right direction.

  • Hi Guys I have asked to transfere my creative suite from windows to mac, no problem, I got the serial number, but I have a windows installation disc how to I get the mac version on my mac computer?

HI Guys I have recently asked to transfer my Windows creative suite to a Mac computer. I received the serial number but unlike my lightroom install disc, which is win and mac, my Creative Suite disc is windows only, how do I go about installing a Mac version of my creative suite onto the Mac computer?

I am talking about the Ver 3 download link that came with the purchase email.
That link is no longer available. Use "Migration Assistant" to copy your Applications from your old mac to the new Mac, then immediately run software update. Aperture Version 3.2 will not run on your new mac with Mavericks, you will have to Upgrade to version 3.4.5 at least - you can download this update from the Support page: Aperture 3.4.5
Then launch Aperture and enter your registration key and try now too update from version 3.4.5 to 3.5 from the AppStore. The AppStore will change your Aperture registration to an AppStore version, so you will able to reinstall by downloading from the AppSTore in future.
If you want transfer only Aperture and no other applications, do it manually: You will have to copy not only the application but folders from the libraries as well:
    /Applications/Aperture.app
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/

  • How do I exchange CS5.5 Windows version for a Mac version?

I bought the downloadable online student version of Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 (windows version) over 2 years ago.  I just bought a Mac and would like to re-install CS but according to Adobe website, I need to exchange the windows version for mac version but since I don't have the most current version of CS (CS6?) I actually have to purchase an upgrade to CS6 first in order to exchange the windows version for mac. Does anyone know how to do this and how much it is going to cost?  I found instructions online that led me to a form that was a little vague and confusing so if anyone knows another way to go about doing this let me know!  Also, I don't think my membership allows me the privilege of actually speaking to someone in customer service.

  • Scan to PDF files too large! - Why?? Solution for Windows - How about Mac? (HP-8630)

Scanning a document to a PDF file of reasonable size has been addressed many times - it is always an issue! My wife is a realtor and frequently needs to scan multiple page documents. I found an actual solution last night:
27 page letter-size B&W document - Scan to PDF on my HP-8630 AIO using HP software at 300dpi, small file size, BW: 27MB! Too big to email.
Solution (in Windows 7 at least), if you have Adobe Acrobat:
Open Adobe Acrobat, go to File Menu -  Create - PDF from Scanner - Configure Presets. Select and configure "Black and White Document":
Select TWAIN device (NOT WIA) as the scanner; black and white, 300dpi, file size one notch to left (smaller) from center, check "optimize after scan". Select paper size and one- or two-sided scanning. Uncheck "make searchable". Save the preset. (The TWAIN driver was apparently installed with the HP installer, since I did not have to look for it.)
After placing pages in the Doc Feeder,  go to File Menu, Create - PDF from Scanner - Black and White Document. Watch the magic!
File size 768k!  Quality indistinguishable from the 27MB version, sharp and clear, all 27 pages! Really!
Using the HP software, using a lower resolution or sliding the file size slider to smaller makes a muddy scan, and the file  is still huge compared to the Acrobat technique. MUCH worse quality than the Acrobat 768k version.
Interestingly, using Acrobat to open the 27MB scan and "PRINT" it to the PDF Printer reduced the size to 10MB, with no change in appearance. "Save as smaller PDF" did not reduce the size further.
What gives, HP?? What can Acrobat do  to scan from your AIO that you can't do?
I tried on my Mac as well - we use both. No go. On Mac OSX 10.10.1 with latest HP drivers, Acrobat does not see any TWAIN or other driver from within the dialog box described above. Scanning from HP software again yields about 1MB per page.
Anyone know how to make Acrobat see the scanner on Mac?

    Hi @JosephWit ,
I see by your post that you are having issues with the PDF scanning size being too big. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
The drivers for 10.10 are installed by the Apple Updates. Did you install the 10.9 drivers or are did up run the Apple Updates to install the printer?
Uninstall the 10.9 printer software and run the Apple Updates to install the proper drivers. Then you can scan with the Apple Software.
Connect the printer to the Mac by a USB cable and run the Apple Updates to install the printer drivers.
Go to the Apple, About this Mac, click on the Overview tab and select Software Updates.
Go to the Apple, Printers and Scanners, delete the USB drivers and disconnect the USB cable.
Then add the wireless printer as a Bonjour printer if the printer is networked.
Click on the + sign, highlight the printer, below beside Use: make sure just the printer name is listed. (you might have to click on the drop down to select your printer from the list)
Here is a document for Scanning in OS X v10.10 Yosemite Without HP Software.
If you are having issues with Adobe, run the updates. Product updates.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

How do I access compacted mail on a Mac version 10.5.8 stuck with Thunderbird version 16.0.2 ? I am unable to access needed documentation for Taxes, etc

Where in the world did you read Deleting All My Mail? I have reread my answer several times and cannot seem to find that in there.
When you mark a message for deletion it does just that. It marks it for deletion and hides the message. It is not truly deleted until you compact.
My point is that unless you deleted your important mail they should still be there somewhere.
Your question was about compacting and thinking it put your messages in a nice little box for safe keeping and now you want to open it.
I have to agree that Thunderbird did a horrible job of naming this process because most are like you and do not understand what it actually does. I included the link to the explanation of what compacting means in the Thunderbird world.
Your messages may still be available to your but finding them has nothing to do with compacting.
Thunderbird does not archive anything unless you use that process by selecting the message and pressing a. You have the option to setup where you want that archive to go and what folders to make.
The All Mail folder is a goofy gmail arrangement. If you have problems with that then you need to address that with Google.
If you go into your gmail account on the gmail site do you see the messages you are hunting in the All Mail folder there?

  • How do you edit the 'About this mac' window?

    Hi,
I need to edit the about this mac window - pictured here to remind you of what exactly it is ( http://www.pluggedinmac.com/Picture%201.jpg )- in order to further my understanding of how this aspect of Macintosh works.
I will be extremely greatful of all replies
    Thanks
    James

You'll need to be a bit more specific about what you mean by "edit".
If you want to edit the actual .nib file (the archive which describes the window), it's at
    /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Ab outThisMac.nib
Nib files can normally be edited by using the Interface Builder application that's part of the Xcode developer tools.
However, since you're on an Intel-based Mac, you won't be able to edit the nib unless you first find a version from a Power PC Mac. The reason for this is that .nib files aren't actually a file, but a package that includes different parts inside the primary folder. For example, if you Control-click on the AboutThisMac.nib mentioned above, and choose Show Package Contents, a new Finder window will open which shows a single item "keyedobjects.nib". That is an actual file which holds the archived user interface objects (using key/value coding/archiving, hence the "keyed" in the name). To be able to open and edit a .nib file in Interface Builder, however, you need two additional files inside named "classes.nib" and "info.nib". These provide Interface Builder with the information necessary to properly open the nib. By removing those two files from the nib, a developer can essentially make the nib "read-only", meaning it will work fine when the application it's a part of needs to use it, but an end-user (or their competition) cannot open the nib file in Interface Builder to see how the objects were constructed. Most nibs that are part of an OS X install on PowerPC-based Macs include the necessary files and can be opened in Interface Builder. Most of the nibs included with Intel-based Macs, on the other hand, do not include those files and can't be opened in Interface Builder without first copying the "classes.nib" and "info.nib" files from a PowerPC-based Mac's nib to the Intel version of the nib.
    Hope this helps....

Is anyone else - that "About this MAC" only gives the OS X Version Number and doesn't also give out the Name?
*** version is Mountain Lion? Snow Leopard? Yosemite?? And how hard would it be to use the name AND version number when they refer to a product?
So What Do I have with 10.8.5 ?
PS [as I use this site for the first, I am glad to see for the first time ANYWHERE that the drop down box lists the OS X by name and number. APPLE, PLEASE DO THAT EVERYWHERE!

A google search would have yielded the answer

  • How to upgrade mac os x 10.5.3 to any version?

How to upgrade mac os x 10.5.3 to any version???

If your Mac is running Leopard (10.5.x) then in order to upgrade further, you need to call Apple and purchase an upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.x).  I have not verified this myself, but I have been told that you can only purchase this by calling Apple, and it will cost about $20 USD.
Once you have Snow Leopard, you will need to verify if you really want to upgrade further.  By going to any newer OS, you will lose the ability to run any older PowerPC based software, as the newer releases of Mac OS do not include ROSETTA, which is needed to continue to run those applications.  Also, if your hardware has Leopard, it may not support any of the newer Mac OS releases, so you would want to verify that as well.
After you have installed Snow Leopard, and then updated it to the latest (10.6.8) you can use the Mac App Store to purchase newer OS releases.  For right now, you can Buy Mountain Lion directly in the store.  If your hardware can't support Mountain Lion, but you still want ot upgrade to Lion, you will need to place another call to Apple to purchase an upgrade code to Lion. With that upgrade code, you can redeem it in the App Store to download the Lion installer.
