How am I supposed to upload music from CDs onto my iMac without a CD drive?
I have music that does not exist on iTunes, and I am beyond upset that I am not able to upload it to my computer and my phone. If there was a stupid CD drive, I would be able to enjoy my music, but I can't because the CD drive does not exist. How do I upload music from CDs onto my computer if there is nowhere to insert a disk?
There are cheap ones (under$50) that'll last anywhere from a year to three years or more expensive(over $50 and higher) that will last much longer.
Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible drives you will only find to be purchased online.
Here are two on Amazon.com that are cheap and Mac compatible

Here's another source for Mac compatible optical drives. These are better quality optical drives.
These are also tray loading drives.

HT1473 Copy music from CDs to iTunes library without a CD drive
I have a Macbook without a CD drive (purchased in winter 2012-13); my husband has a Mac desktop (few years old). I'd like to copy some music from CDs to my iTunes library for listening on my iPhone (4S) and Mac (and, perhaps, one day, iPad). My husband says that if we insert one of the CDs into his Mac and copy/import it, it will only go into HIS iTunes library. If that's so, how can I get the music from his library into my Macbook.
If that's not so, how do we specify where the copied files should go so that I can access them? I'm not totally Apple-savvy, so please bear with me on this!?Import them into his computer, then copy them from his iTunes Music folder to your computer via Home Sharing - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 - (probably the easiest), file sharing, or an external storage device such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive. If you use any method other than Home Sharing, just drag the tracks into the iTunes window on your computer.
You posted in the iTunes for Windows forum, by the way. Just FYI for future questions.
Regards.

I want 2 put music from cds on another ipod without the songs being in my library. Sorry it cut me off on the title. I want to import songs to put on my brother's ipod, but when I try to delete the song from my library it deletes it from his too. Help?
If you want to delete content from your computer but keep it on the iPod (so that is not deleted next time you connect it to iTunes), you need to set that iPod to manage the iPod content manually.

HT1473 I'm trying to upload music from CDs to my iPod Touch via my PC.
I can get the music into my iTunes library on the PC but when I hit SYNC none of it is transferred to my iPod. Help?!
Ok if the left hand sidebar is not showing on your computer
Ctrl B to show the top menu
Then View > Show Sidebar.
In the left hand panel you should now see your ipod under devices.
Clicjk on this and from the right hand page choose Music from the top navigation options. Select whatever you want from the playlist , Albums, Artists etc
Click apply at the bottom. Has anything sync'd over to your iPod -
i am a new mac user
i have a new imac
was trying to transfer data from old pc to imac using migration assistant ( wirelessly )
i had done it once already, but i noticed that although it took about 8 hours, very little data from the c drive was actually transferred ( i had not noticed i had to designated folders to copy )
so i did it again, targetting folders on the D drive and my external hard drive F - lots of data ( about 300 GB )
after an hour i noticed that the estimated time for completion was 88 hours ! i did let it run for about 30 hours anyway and hoped for the best ...
this morning when i woke up the time remaining was estimated at 42 hours, but then it suddenly jumped to 110 hours !!!
when i came home 8 hours later, it was still at 110 hours, so i stopped it - i assumed it had crashed ...
i got a message that one folder on my pc might have been lost - corrupted
incredibly, after more than 30 hours, no data had actually been transferred to my new mac !!!!
in any case, i see now that migration assistant created a new user account anyway, which i do not want
SO
how can i transfer data from my pc laptop to my new imac, preferrably with a direct cable connection as opposed to wireless, directly into my main account
and i how can i delete the other account migration assistant created in the initial "successful" transfer
thanks

Connect an ethernet or firewire cable between the 2 Macs, Wireless is the worst way to do it (as you have found)
Concur; however, the OP has one Mac and one PC (non-Mac). Details are in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518
Ah yes, forget the Firewire cable then, use ethernet. -
Transfering music from Nano to new iMac without old computer
I recently had a hard drive fail on my old PC laptop and can't access my iTunes music for my Nano. Is there anyway you can download music onto the new iMac without having access to the old PC? I'm talking about music that's been loaded onto the Nano via CD (not iTunes Store) - Please help
Hey there,
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

Playing music from iCloud on Macbook Pro without external hard drive
I have iTunes match set up on my macbook pro. All my music is physically stored on an external hard drive and is perfectly matched to iCloud. So I can stream/download all my music to my iphone and ipad no problem.
I would have thought as all my music is now in the cloud i should be able to, for example, take my macbook on holiday and not have to bring the hard drive that all the music is on with me.
This doesn't seem the case - if my hard drive is not attached - it "can't locate" the song.
Am I missing something really obvious here? Is there an icloud mode I have to switch it too?
I've tried turning off itunes match (restarting) and logging in again without the hard drive connected but it still seems to be looking for the music locally.
Any thoughts?
PS - I have the latest iTunes and am using Mountain LionI have just worked this out.
Just created a new library by clicking option while opening iTunes. Then just turned on itunes match with this new library.
Works fine. -

When I delete songs from iTunes, iTunes often asks me whether to keep or trash the file, but often it does not.
First, I do not really know why it does not always ask me what to do with the file itself. Any idea?
iTunes will ask you if you want to keep or trash files when
(a) you have +keep iTunes media folder organized+ enabled in preferences > advanced
(b) the files are in your iTunes music (or media) folder in <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music/iTunes
Second, since iTunes does not always ask what to do with the file, my iTunes library is currently filled with ghost files of songs that I have deleted from iTunes. Any idea how I could locate and delete these files?
try this:
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v1.1*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.

How do I get non-purchased music from iTunes onto my iPod?
I have this song that I created by mixing pieces and parts of other songs in Audacity. I made it into an iTunes compatible file and it is now in my library. When I checked it to be synced to my sister's iPod nano, it worked just fine. But now when I try to sync it to my iPod touch 4S, it's nowhere to be found. Even though when I downloaded the app Remote for home sharing it told me it was on the device, I have yet to see it anywhere. I even searched for it in the spotlight thing and it's definitely not on the iPod. I really need to get it on there for a school project.
Remote shows the library on your share computer.
Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)
Try sync again. -

Importing music from CDs onto iPod
Hi there,
I have an iPod Nano 1GB. I am having a problem because I only have 28 songs on it, but it says it is almost full! The songs I purchased from iTunes are very small (3-4 MB), but the songs I tried to transfer from my CDs are much larger (25+ MB). I imported the songs using iTunes and then moved them from the library into the selected playlist that I want to sync from. I don't understand why they aren't compressed. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks for your help!!Do you have the imported songs on your computer? You can choose to copy files to Itunes Music Folder.(You can find the folder in the preferences/advanced/general tab) If you did, then you can check the file sizes. If the size is too large, I would delete them, and I would re-import using the MP3 encoder and 128Kps(Good Quality). This setting will give you about 5MB per song. Go to edit/preferences/advanced/importing/ to change the setting.
To diagnose your current problem, I would remove the songs with the large file size from your library (you can probably just remove the checkmark in the ipod library) and update the ipod. Then, disconnect the Ipod, and check the space available. If you agree with it, then the import setting is the problem. You will need to right click and clear the files from your Ipod library as well as deleting the copy from your computer, then re-import. If the large files are not the problem, then your ipod probably isn't properly formatted. I would then run the updater to fix it and properly format it. -
plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need more information then. Tell me exactly what you are doing and what happens

In the past to get music from CDs onto my iTunes library and onto my iPod was all easy and fine, as you would know if you have done such a thing before. I used to use a different laptop for all my music stuff to the desktop I have to use now as the other one is broken. It is an authorised computer on my iTunes, so my issue has got nothing to do with that. When I got this desktop (it is quite an old one, if that makes any difference), i had to download iTunes and put all my music into my library to back it up.
However, all music that I had bought physically that is currently on my iPod (CDs) WON'T transfer into my new library on the desktop, but all music that I had bought digitally (iTunes) WILL transfer.
This has led to about 300 missing songs in my library and means I can't transfer all of my music onto a different device (as I am trying to transfer all my music onto an iPhone 3).
I have tried countless things. All of that "File > Devices > Transfer purchases" stuff WILL. NOT. WORK. I tried copying the music into a file on the desktop and then adding said file into the library, but it won't let me paste any music.
If someone were to help me in transferring the music I so dearly love then I would be eternally grateful.
Thank youSee Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
