How are others addressing Employee terminiations?
Hi all,
I have a business process question regarding DS. We are looking into handling employee terminations and status changes differently. On a technical standpoint, how are others handling employee terminations in LDAP/directory server. (i.e. move to a new tree, changing ACI, altering attributes, etc.).
Your ideas and experience of what works best and what to avoid are greatly appreciated!

In an ideal world making the account inactive would be enough. User is not able to bind anymore but the entry still exists. You can easily script it's removal after some time of inactivation, etc.
However, if you have some (bad) software which is configured to bind to DS as some other identity then a user using it - this elegant schema won't work. You will have to make some dirty/hardcoded suffix dn/attributes tricks, etc.
In such a case Sun docs won't help you. Your specific layout is the only way to meat your needs.

How are other Apple users managing their ever growing iPhoto library's?
I have an iPhoto library that goes back quite a few years. I have in excess of 10,000 pictures in iPhoto that add up over 30gigs of pictures. I use an external hard drive to run time capsule to back up my computer. I have a few questions and was wondering if this makes sense beside running time capsule:
(1) Was thinking about getting another external hard drive and exporting all my pictures by year into folders outside of iPhoto.
(2) Was also thinking of then uploading these pictures to flick to have them stored in a "cloud".
(3) Don't really understand iCloud for backing up large quantities of photos and it seems silly to pay for something that I can get for free.
Any input from others managing large iPhoto databases would be appreciated.
Thanks!10k isn't large, really. I have a 35k library on iPhoto and we've seen reports on here from people with more than 200k pics. iPhoto is good for 250,000 images in any one Library.

What does this achieve? You lose all the organisation of iPhoto, you have to choose between the Originals and you edited versions and so on. Why not back up the Library to this disk? Multiple back ups are valuable too:
My Library lives on my iMac. It’s Backed up to two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a trial restore.

Storing in the cloud is a good idea. There are many options: Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug etc. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you may need to pay.
So be very careful that whatever you choose will actually accept all your photos and in full quality.
(3) Don't really understand iCloud for backing up large quantities of photos and it seems silly to pay for something that I can get for free.
iCloud offers no such service. There is no way to back up photos on iCloud at all.

Multiple Leads per Account - how are your companies managing this?

Question regarding accounts with multiple leads. How are other companies handling this in CRM? Currenlty, we have a two lead types, one captures customer first point of interest with our company and the second type represents all of the other interests the customer has with us. We are trying to simply to one lead type but Marketing is having an issue with how to manage the first point of contact and the point of contact which triggers the sale.
Basically, I would like to hear from other experts on how their companies model their leads and manage them.

Chrishi, you can add a customize flag field in your lead document to present the first contact. And you can make the sales staff to tick this flag, or add a customize logic in the order save BADI to check if the lead is the first document for this BP, it so the set the flag aotumactically in the BADI.

How are people performing virus scans on uploads?
I am going to be starting an application shortly that will accept uploaded files from 3rd parties. Luckily they will not be annonymous but you never know if a friendly source may have become infected without thier knowledge.
So my question is how are other APEX developers ensuring that the files they receive are clean? Does running a real-time AV on the webserver scan temporary files hitting somewhere under /www or does APEX load each bit directly into the BLOB, effectively bypassing scanning? I've searched a bit but was unable to find anything concrete here on the forums.
I'm debating dropping the file to the file system for scanning before it is accessible by our internal users but if that is unnecessary I don't have to worry about it.

Another option (in addition to those suggested) is to integrate with a content scanning service that supports the ICAP protocol, such as Symantec:

Essentially you let the user upload the file, then stream it across using UTL_TCP etc to your scanning service and check the result that is passed back (depending on your server setup you can choose to scan for viruses and/or check for content type to detect certain 'categories' that you might want to block).
It requires a bit of leg-work on you part to code the streaming, but it's not too bad once you understand how the ICAP protocol works (it's just a protocol that you need to learn to send the correct information to the server and know how to receive the content).

Is he getting your SMS messages (green) or your iMessages (blue). If SMS message, go to Settings>Messages and turn off Text Forwarding. If blue, are you sharing an Apple ID? You should each have your own.

How are businesses handling the "APPLE LOCK" on company cell phones when an employee leaves and their phone is unusable because the euipment was set up on the employee's personal Apple Account with their ID and password? When an employee leaves a business and the company has purchased the equipment, the company should have the rights to reissue the equipment and Apple should provide an alternative to unlock the equipment from the employee's personal APPLE account and password so the company (that purchased the equipment) can reissue the line and equipment to another employee.
If you can prove ownership to Apple, they may be able to help you.
The best way of handing things would be strong policies requiring that the equipment be turned in in a usable state. i.e. not activation locked. Failing this, the employee should be charged the cost of the replacement phone. Held from their final paycheck if required. -
Recent Contacts - How many email addresses are kept?
How many email addresses are kept on the recent contacts list? Can't find this listed anywhere.
I assume you are referring to it physically putting another separate contact in Address Book, and not the autofill list when typing an address into a new message window.
Mail does not have an option to add addresses from email to the address book automatically. The fact that you say it happens with the Exchange account and not the other accounts indicates that it's an exchange account problem.
Are you syncing the exchange account contact list with apple's address book? If so, you might take another look to the exchange account for something there. -
I upgraded to OS8 for my Iphone 5 and now I have no access to e-mail and several apps. How can I address this problem? For those who have an iphone 5 I recommend not upgrading to the new OS until these bugs are resolved.
I foolishly downloaded OS8 on my iPhone 4S. It not only greyed out my wifi button making it impossiblr to use wifi, but bluetooth connection doesn't work either. I reset the phone to factory settings but that did nothing apart from loose all my photos and contacts. OS 8 was still on after too. Apple say it is a problem but the download only brought the fact the hardware was faulty to the fore, but not being under warranty , the repair would cost £166 that I would have to pay. Totally unacceptable. If the problem was known and they knew it would cause problems on older models, why have it bob up on iTUNES for download.
Don;t download it guys, APPLE aren't admitting culpability and it will cost you a fortune to put right!! -
0.41GB of my iPod Touch 4G's capacity is taken up by something callked 'Others'. What are 'Others' and will it be o.k to delete them? If so how do I go about doing it as there is no trace of a file on either iTunes or my iPod?
Other content is typically miscellaneous data used by applications you have installed - could be save data (e.g. for games), or documents you've created. There's no easy way to determine precisely what it is, but the only way to clear it is to either delete it from within the respective application, or remove the associated application altogether - neither of which are typically practical.

As of recently any photos I add to a shared photostream will not update for others and I don't see the updated photos on my other devices. Only I can see them from the device that i've posted from. How come others sharing this photostream are no longer getting the new photos? My iphone (the device i'm adding from) shows 20 pictures in this shared photostream and yet 4 other people that I share this photostream album with and my ipad only show 12 photos. For the past week I keep adding photos thinking people will see them but it just won't update the new ones. Any ideas how to fix this?
You can stop new photos being automatically added to Photostream in iPhoto from iPhoto preferences > Photostream.

Can not take a screenshot with Maverick and track pad. can not use apple chat to talk with a tech. there are other issues also like I used to be able to go back a page with the delete button. No Maverick PDF to instruct on how to use Maverick
THE use of the apple support is a mess also.
I want to be able to use my MAC fully and easily like I used to with Snow Leopard.
What is wrong with this maverick OS?The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ... -
EDGE being used in 3G area. How many other people see this??
I'm just trying to get a feel for how many other people see this.
In the last 6 weeks or so, twice my phone has switched from 3G to EDGE when i'm in a strong 3G area. Yesterday it did it just as I was leaving work and my iPhone stayed on EDGE all the way back home, when I know that the area in question is fully covered by 3G (and my iPhone normally says 3G). Later at home I went to use the phone and noticed it had finally switched back to 3G instead of EDGE.
Is this an area issue with AT&T getting overloaded? Is this a bug in the iPhone software? Anybody else experience this periodically?
Mark.First off, it could either be an issue with AT&T's network being overloaded so it switched you to Edge, or it could be a bug in the iPhone software.
Second, are you measuring the signal strength by how many bars the iPhone shows or by the dbm numbers? The dbm numbers show the actual signal strength and the bars don't. The iPhone could have a horrible signal and still show you 3-5 bars. To see the actual dbm numbers, you have to go into the phone feature and type in "star12345#3001#star" and hit send (be sure to place the * in place of the word star). Once you do that you will enter test mode and you will notice that there are numbers in the top left instead of the bars. The numbers range from (this is not the exact range because I don't know) -55 to -117. The lower the number the stronger signal you have, once you start hitting -100 your signal is getting pretty weak. If you want to continually be able to see the dbm numbers you have to force quit out of the field test mode. If you are on 3.x firmware you have to hold the sleep button until the power off slider appears, let go of the sleep button and then hold down the home button. Once the app closes you can now tap on the top left and switch between bars and dbm numbers. -
