How are you Using Oracle Lite?

I'm doing a little research and am curious how people are using Oracle Lite...any feedback would be helpful, thanks!

Hi Laurie,
First, Robert - Lite'n up. This a "user forum" and open to any question, right? If we start chastising people for posting what read to me as a rather innocent question you might not expect to get many questions from newbies and responses from the gurus.
Laurie, I have ported a J2EE application that uses Oracle enterprise as the database and BEA WebLogic as the server to an "off-line" accessible application that uses OLite and Apache Tomcat. Since this application was already written and we did not want to rewrite any [significant] portion, so I decide on Tomcat instead of OLite's Java engine. However, I will most likely use OLite "Web" application(s) for other apps that we are considering porting to this platform. So far, it seems like a great platform for an application that works with a rdbms.
Hope this helps with your thesis ; )

  • Migration Monitor - How Are You Using It?

    Hello!
In this short discussion, you can help us to better understand how you are using the Migration Monitor – this better understanding would help the team responsible for this tool to adapt their automated tests accordingly and would also influence the future development decisions in this area.
    What is the Migration Monitor?
The Migration Monitor is part of the software provisioning manager as of SAP NetWeaver 2004 SR1, but can also be executed manually. It uses the EXT, WHR, STR, TPL files to control the unload and load, to accelerate the load by automatic parallelization, and to generate the R3load task and command files (TSK and CMD files). The Migration Monitor does the following:
    Creates R3load command files
Creates R3load task files if required
Starts R3load processes to unload the data
Transfers packages from source to target host if required
Starts R3load processes to load data as soon as a package is available
Informs the person performing the system copy in case of errors
How Do You Use the Migration Monitor?
Only for sequential unload and load - that is, you first unload to a local system, transfer the export directory to the target host, and then load using this directory.
    For parallel unload and load:
    a) Unload and load using a shared network directory
    b) Unload and load using transfer by FTP
    c) Unload and load using sockets
In your reply, please just name your preferred option (1, 2a, 2b, or 2c) – and why you prefer it.
Thanks a lot for your support!
    Boris

    Boris,
Options - All three but mainly Option # 2.
Option # 1 - To dynamically increase the number of parallel process from Source system. But in case of homogeneous system copies with massive database sizes, the database proprietary methods comes in handy than the R3load procedures.
Option # 2 - To reduce downtime in migrations (hetero combinations) thru parallel export/import of data loads.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Srinivas K.

  • How are you Using iBooks Author and Samples

I'm curious to see how everyone is using iBooks author to create books. Are most people copy/pasting content into their book or are they directly writing the content in the book? How many have just imported the information from another word processing program? Who is using the program for creating books for children, entertainment or work-related functions?
And that being said, I'm also interseted to see samples of how the books of others look on the iPad, including if possible the children's books, entertainment books or the work-related books. (Including how they incorporated widgets, theme in the pages, fonts, etc)
Me personally, I have been developing two books using iBooks author for work related fuctions. The first book is a training manual for a software program; the second book is a guide to all the reports that can be created in the software program. Both books have been well received by clients.

I generally find that, for creating the text, I'm better off with the word processor of my choice. That way, I get to focus on content and structure and I don't get distracted by layout and formatting issues. While working in the word processor, I use only the simplest of styles. (Logical styles rather than visual ones, the equivalen of HTML <H1>, <H2>, etc.
Once I'm happy with the text and I've done the copy editing, I import into the page layout program and do the layout.
    Cheers,
    Michi.

  • How are you using the Namespace Prefix?

    As the subject says...
The top-level namespace prefix looks very useful for segregating projects into their own namespaces...is this what this is for, or does SAP have another recommended use for this prefix?
The vendor name already makes the namespace unique to a corporate entity (if you use the domain name), so anything after that is really only of importance to the internal development environment...

Even if your development isn't that big, using the 'name space prefix' would allow you to further segregate your codebase.
This also becomes important when your domain name is rather long - 15 characters.  Take away four or so more for the namespace prefix, and you're left with 20 characters for the DC name.  Add in a few separators, and you're down to 12-15 characters.
Obviously, readability can suffer when you start to abbreviate too much, so I'm looking for best practices when it comes to the namespace prefix.
    Thanks for your comment.

  • How are you using SAP LT Analysis?

Dear LT end users and experts,
What is the best way to identify the as-is situation in your system before an LT project?
Have you used LT Analysis? Were they helpful in creating mapping for conversion?
    Regards,
    Vidya

    Hi Vidya,
to answer your question - yes, the Analysis is very helpful.
The deployed document helps customer to estimate the planned transformation, as well it helps to mind the project team.
So using this as a scoping document I´ll would work with it.

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

  • Using oracle lite as a standalone database

we are currently using olite 4.0 as a standalone/embedded database. although some form of data synchronisation is required, it is handled separately by our own program.
to use oracle 9i lite as a standalone/embedded database seems like a daunting task now. the environment now is much more complex compared to olite 4.0.
any idea how I can use oracle 9i lite just for the database only, without installing all the unnecessary stuffs?
    thanks.

    Hi,
I have been using Oracle Flashback Database for a long time in our test environments. As you already said, I recommend that you create Guaranteed Restore Points rather than rely on db_flashback_retention_target.  If you are planning to use Guaranteed Restore Points only, then you don't need to turn on flashback. If flashback database is not enabled, then the database must be mounted, not open, when creating the first guaranteed restore point (or if all previously created guaranteed restore points have been dropped).
    My Answers:
    1) I don't think so. Flashback database is faster compared to RMAN restore/recover operations.
    2) Create a backup ins not mandatory, but is a good practice.
    3) I created a Nagios plugin that take this work for me, but you can check the v$recovery_file_dest view from time to time.
    4) If you take a backup then I don't see a problem, but take care that flashback database relies not only on flashback log files but also in archive redo log files. I recommend you to delete archivelogs (from RMAN) after you drop the restore point.
    5) Flashback log files are automatically deleted after the Guaranteed restore points are deleted.
    6) Read documentation, make more tests. In 2011 I wrote an article (Brazilian Portuguese) about Flashback Database. Maybe you can take a look ;-)
    Cheers

  • Error while trying access JSP page first time using Oracle Lite

    Hi,
We are doing a proof of concept using Oracle Lite 10gR3. Installed Mobile server and published a JSP based application. Installed web-to-go setup.exe on a client machine and synchronized the application. However when we tried to open the page, it comes up with an error. We are using jdk version 1.4. Any advise will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
    Error message:

This class was compiled for a newer version of the JRE. Expected version 48.0, found 49.0

(Since this is the general forum for the 'big' database, my advice would be to ask in the Oracle Lite forum. Database Mobile Server (inc. legacy Database Lite)
If this is a formal evaluation, you could also get a Sales-sponsored trial which usually comes with 30-90 days of Metalink support. You would be able to search for notes like Doc 414106.1
Bottom line is that the code is for JDK 1.5 and it's being deployed against JDK 1.4.2. Something needs to be either upgraded or downgraded.

  • Do you recomend Oracle Lite?

    Hi all,
Do you recomend Oracle Lite or prefer another mobile database ?
    Tks,
    Everson

I have done development on both the 9i and the 10g. 10g is by far the superior product. Although I find them both good. I too use the API and not the development workbench. A couple of reasons I use the APIs over the workbench are that I am working over a slow VPN connection, and this affects the workbench. The other reason I use the APIs is that I am maintaining 380 tables and 800 indexes and over 60 indexes. I built my own JDBC application that would repopulate various tables as the evolution of our application progressed.
The overall performance of 10g is much better then 9i too. I know they have re-written the triggers so they perform better on DML statements. There is a lot more logging in 10g allowing for better trouble shooting techniques.
The 9i system that I built was a Win32 system while the 10g system was Webtogo. Other Oracle products used were Oracle AS with WebCache as a load balancer, Oracle RAC and ASM.
10g also has more features around MGP cycles and MGP processing in general. One performance enhancement is the Shared Maps. Shares data with a group of users. By default the shared maps are set to all users.
I wouldn't say that 10g OC4J container is more fat then 9i lite, I would rather choose to say that 10g lite OC4J is more robust ;)
