How best connect x220t to TV screen?

Forgive my ignorance - have not owned a tv for some years. Shortly to take delivery of this model new 2013 Sony Bravia tv which has wi-fi direct, dlna, all that stuff. I have a x220t laptop and my movies are either on that or the home NAS. Wondering what the best options are to connect the laptop *wirelessly* to the tv to watch movies?

  • How best to clean the iPad screen?

How can you best, and safest, remove the inevitable smudges off your screen?

The best way I have found to keep my iPad 2 clean is by using a microfiber cloth.  I have tried quite a few and the best by far was the Pristine Screens cloth. The other cloths I tried just felt cheep, this one on the other is definitely high quality and lived up to all of the hype. I bought mine on Amazon but they have a website too. Hope this helps!  :-)
    Try these -

  • How to connect multiple Xserve Raid for Best Performance

I like to get an idea how to connect multiple Xserve Raid to get the best performance for FCP to do multiple stream HD.

Again, for storage (and retrieval), FireWire 400 should be fast enough. If you are encoding video directly to the external drive, then FireWire 800 would probably be beneficial. But as long as the processing of the video is taking place on the fast internal SATA drive, and then you are storing files on the external drive, FireWire 400 should be fine.
Instead of speculating about whether it will work well or not, you need to set it up and try your typical work flow. That is the only way you will know for sure if performance is acceptable or not.
For Time Machine, you should use a single 1.5TB drive. It is likely that by the time your backup needs comes close to exceeding that space, you will be able to buy a 3TB (or larger) single drive for the same cost. Also, I would not trust a RAID where the interaction between the two drives is through two USB cables and a hub. If your primary storage drive fails, you need your backup to be something that is simple and reliable.
Oh, and there should be no problem with the adapter, if you already have it and it works.
Edit: If those two external drives came formatted for Windows, make sure you have use Disk Utility Partition tab to repartition and reformat the drive. When you select the drive in the Disk Utility sidebar, at the bottom of the screen +Partition Map Scheme+ should say *GUID Partition Table*. When you select the volume under the drive in the sidebar, Format should say *Mac OS Extended (Journaled)*.

When I had a PC I simply took the wire going to my monitor and connected to my big screen TV to watch Netflix movies...How do I take them from my IMAC and connect them to my TV now?

    This could be problematic.
It will depend on what model of iMac you have.
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the work hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
Most of the iMac's have sometype of video output port on the back.  You will problably need a converter.
The 'hollywood' industry has been making it more difficult to get video out over time to prevent copying.

  • HT4279 I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

The article you cited refers to The Mac Pro, a 50lb silver tower -- not a notebook computer.
    Everymac.com says:
    2nd Display Support:
    Dual/Mirroring*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    2560x1600 (x2*)
    Details:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single display up to 1920x1200 via HDMI. Although it can theoretically power all three external displays, as confirmed by a helpful reader, it runs too hot with three displays connected.
Also see: How many external displays can the Retina Display MacBook Pro models support? What is the maximum supported resolution of each? Are adapters required?
When using other than ThunderBolt displays, the ThunderBolt port is directly compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and can be forced into compatibility (with Single-Link DVI or HDMI up to 1920 wide) with a simple adapter.
To adapt to wider displays, an ACTIVE Dual-Link adapter is needed, about US$100.

How best to screen junk mail in the mail application?

With the Mail program running, select Preferences from the Mail menu and then select the Junk Mail tab. Turn it on. This is a decent junk mail filter and fills the needs of many people. If you find too much junk mail still making its way into your in basket, there's a third party program called SpamSieve that takes filtering to another level.

  • X220t witrh swivel screen- How to add a webcam?

I have an X220T with swivel screen. I would like to install a webcam but after much research, I cannot find any data on how to do that with this type of screen. Is it even possible?  I have looked at the instructions for taking the x220 apart, but it is not the same as there are no hinges on the sides, just a swivel hinge. Also, which exact part do I need to purchase? Cable?

You can buy the camera from Lenovo, but I don't think you can get the cover separately. (There is a stuck-on cover on the LCD bezel that needs a hole for the camera to "see" out.) I suggest this:

  • How Best to Connect a Drob 5D

I will be connecting i) a Drobo 5D ii) a Thunderbolt display and iii) a MBA / Mac Mini...I am little confused as to how best to make this work.
The Drobo documentation is clear that "...the Drobo 5D performs best when it is the first in the daisy-chain, but it can also be in the middle or at the end...".
The first Thunderbolt-only scenario which came to mind was MBA/Mac Mini --> Thunderbolt display (where the MBA/Mac Mini is connected using the Thunderbolt cable that is part of the display) --> Drobo but this puts the Drobo at the end of the daisy-chain.  This one works as it is described in the Drobo manual.
The second Thunderbolt-only scenario was MBA/Mac Mini --> Drobo --> Thunderbolt display (where the Drobo is connected using the Thunderbolt cable that is part of the display).   The potential issue here is that I don't know whether this connection sequence will pass the "display" and "Ethernet connection" back to the MBA/Mac Mini through the Drobo.
Would greatly appreciate someone answering this for me.
    Thanks,
    Joel

    clintonfrombirmingham wrote:
You should go with the second scenario - Thunderbolt works best with the display at the end of the chain. I don't have a NAS, but I do have two Thunderbolt drives that are daisy-chained first and second with my Display being the third and final TB unit.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS Mavericks 10.9.4, 16GB Crucial RAM, Crucial M500 960GB SSD, 27” Apple Thunderbolt Display
Appreciate the response and note that the Drobo 5D is a DAS [i.e. it is the Drobo 5N which is the NAS].
So, just to be perfectly clear, the video and network connection will pass from the Thunderbolt display to the MBA/Mac Mini when those two devices are t the end of the chain?
    Thanks so much,
    Joel
PS.  What DAS do you have as I am still considering different units.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.

    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. If you did not do step 4 properly, start all over again.
