How best to copy to cd or dvd for viewing on tv as slide show

want to view photos on tv using cd or dvd - as a slide show - what is best way to do the task?

Easiest way to make a copy of a bootable CD/DVD (assuming you have an optical device that can burn CD/DVDs) is to pop in the disk, launch Disk Utility, select the volume, select File->New->Disk Image from diskXsY, and in the dialog box that pops up, select CD/DVD Master under Image Format and Encryption->None. Once it's finished, eject the CD/DVD, select the image in Disk Utility, and Images->Burn, pop in the blank, and that should do it. Details in Disk Utility->Help->Disk Utility Help->Duplicating a CD or DVD.
The master image format is required for bootable disks.

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

How can I burn a CD or DVD for regular data files using anything other than itunes?

If you need simple burning, do as Robert said. However, if you need more advanced options, take a look at Roxio Toast 10 Titanium. There is also a Pro HD version if you need more video burning options.

I know this is an older thread, but FWIW you should be able to open up My Computer in Windows, locate your memory card there, then either drag and drop and/or copy and paste images from your computer's hard drive onto the memory card.

  • Burning slide show using scrapbook theme to DVD for viewing on TV using DVD

Made a slideshow using scrapbook theme with songs in iPhoto '09. Clicked on burn disk, after disk was complete tried to play in DVD player on a TV and it won't work.
Can anyone tell me how I can keep the scrapbook theme and burn it to a DVD for viewing on TV using a normal DVD player? We want to be able to just put in DVD player and it auto start into the slide show if possible (if not then a button to start slide show). I know you can go into iDVD and burn a slide show with music but it looses the scrapbook theme of random photo's and cluster photo's that we like when viewed in iPhoto.

I also need to solve this problem. I plan to try to export the slideshow to a Quicktime (.mov) and a MPEG4. I think MPEG4 may be recognized by most DVD players. The Quicktime (.mov) should be able to work with an iDVD project.

    Thanks.

Thank you Winston. I guess we need to ask that this feature gets added at least as an option in an upcoming release. When someone is using shuffle, it helps to know what is playing while viewing pictures.
Where is my Apple request button when one needs it ? :-) Cheers, C

  • How best to copy a DVD?

Hi. I want to copy a home DVD for members of my family to view on their TVs and I'm confused by the range of options available. These seem to be:-
    1. Create a project in iDVD (but I don't want to mess about with themes, etc)
    2. Use Disk Utility (Mac shop told me this was only for data discs)
    3. Use a combination of Mac The Ripper, Handbrake and Roxio Popcorn (Complicated - and what does this do to film quality?)
The DVD consists of two files: a Video_TS and an Audio_TS (although the Audio_TS seems to be blank). It plays fine on my TV's set-top DVD player (although I can't copy it on that for some reson) and on my Mac's DVD Player.
Any advice gratefully received: I'm new to this ("ripping" and "burning" have just entered my vocabulary) and never imagined it would be so complicated!

Handbrake extracts the contents in a form suitable for copying
No. Handbrake is a video transcoder, not a copying or ripping tool. See
    <https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/SupportFAQ#whatisit>
    <https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/IsIsnt>
'Transcoder' means that it converts the video signal from one type of encoding to another. If the source is protected (as many, but not all, commercial DVDs are), Handbrake can't convert it.
Mac The Ripper do the same thing as Handbrake?
No. This is not a transcoder, but a ripper, ie, an app which breaks the copy protection employed by some commercial DVDs. Note that this is illegal in the USA and other countries.
    And what about VLC
VLC is a media player. It is free and compatible with a wide range of formats and codecs, so it's a very useful tool to have. It can also transcode, but it's not very good at that; like Handbrake, it will not break the DVD copy protection.
    MPEG Streamclip?
This is also a transcoder. It may be possible to rip copy-protected DVDs with it, but this requires the QT MPEG2 component from Apple. (Even in Lion, which has built-in MPEG2 support.)
None of those are necessary for the task you mentioned.

  • How best to save VHS tapes to DVDs using a Mac ?

I have over 30 VHS tapes, eight Hi-8 tapes, and a player for both formats.   Would like to make DVDs of these movies.   There are a few USB adapters (Elgato Video Capture for $100, KWorld DVD Maker 2x for $28)  and Roxio makes Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus for $60.  Have looked through AV forums on other websites and the directions are not concise, and are aimed at the PC platform.   Prefer to use a Mac.
What is the fastest, easiest, and best way to save these VHS tapes to DVDs using a Mac ?

    Frank Caggiano wrote:
Are you sure neither player has a digital output? FireWire would be the most likely connector on that type of equipment.
Both VHS & Hi-8 are analog tape formats so it is extremely unlikely that VHS players or Hi-8 camcorders would have built-in analog to digital converters. That's why you need a product that includes a hardware A-D converter like the three mentioned by the OP.
Roxio's Easy VHS to DVD 3 product is for Windows -- there is no software compatible with OS X included. The Easy VHS to DVD for Mac product does include OS X compatible software but it gets poor reviews at Amazon, has apparently not been updated in some time, & the support page for the product has some "page not found" links suggesting Roxio isn't currently supporting the product very well.
The KWorld DVD Maker comes with a software driver for its A-D converter, which apparently uses a Empia 28xx family chipset. According to this that driver will not work with recent OS X versions, but for $30 one can purchase the VideoGlide driver to solve that problem. The KWorld product does not include OS X compatible editing software; for that you use iMovie (& presumably Toast or iDVD or something else) to burn the movies to DVDs. That makes the price about the same as the Roxio solution but complicates support because hardware & software are coming from different companies.
The Elgato Video Capture product should be compatible with most OS X versions (but I could not find anything specifically about at beyond the typical "10.5 & above" kind of comment which may or may not mean it supports 10.8 or 10.9) but it captures to H.264/MPEG formats only, so like the KWorld you still need something to convert that to MPEG 2 to burn the captures to a standard DVD.
So basically, there is no easy "one step" method to transfer VHS (or any of the other analog video formats) to DVD's. Depending on the version of OS X in use, it should be fairly easy to convert the analog source material to a digital format that can be used with iTunes, iMovie, etc., but editing it & particularly burning that to a DVD that will play in a regular DVD player will take more work.

  • How can I copy and paste a caption for several pictures that are all the same?

I'm trying to understand the process of importing, labeling and organizing pictures I'm importing from my iPhone into iPhoto 11.
So far I am importing only pictures that relate to one another; ie taken at the same event.  I have 18 pictures from one hike.  I'd like to label each of those pictures the same; ie "hike at Bear Creak 2/15."  Can I copy and paste the same label to all 18 pictures?  How would I copy and paste?
There are lots of You Tube videos on the subject of iPhoto and that's how I learn best.  If you know of a really basic one to watch I'd appreciate it.
I think I have to take a class at the Apple Store on this basic organizing because it's really escaped me in the 9 months I've had this Mac (switched from PC.)
    Thanks,
    Ginny

    Ginny,
select all 18 photos at once in iPhoto on your Mac and then use the menu entry "Photos > Batch Change"
That will change the titles or descriptions of all photos at once.
