How Best to Import iPhone 4 video into Premier Pro CS5 - Settings for new import "sequence preset"?
Shooting video with my iPhone 4 (ATT version) and am trying to import file into Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) running on Macintosh OS 10.6.6.
The problem is that I am simply guessing on how to import sequence, and the result is that I am getting motion artifacts and generally inferior quality. I am using iMovie 11 as my basis for comparison. Not surprisingly, iMovie 11 imports from iPhone beautifully, but when I've looked around inside of it for properties, there isn't much to see.
From using Apple's built in quicktime "inspector," it is possible to see that iPhone4 video has following properties:
".mov" file
dimensions: 1280 x 720
codecs: H.264, AAC
Color Profile: HD (1-1-1)
Audio Channels: 1
Total Bit Rate: 10,543

Seeking advice on how to smoothly and *losslessly* import/ingest iphone4 footage into PPro CS5. (I am not worried about exporting for iPhone display, which is what most of the information I can find relates to).
Thanks in advance, Michael
Wow. Thanks Colin.
When I follow your approach, I don't get the same "sequence preset" dialog box popping up.
FU question, though, the motion is frequently jagged. Is there a way to smooth out/increase the quality of the rendering? I have 16gb ram, Mac Pro. which is able to handle iPhone video rending fine in quicktime. (I've tried rendering for "performance" and "memory" but both seem to produce, eh results.).

Dear Adobe Community,
I tried importing a QuickTime-Video into Premiere Pro CS5.5, which did not work because there was a codec missing. What can I do now?
Thank you in advance for your helpful comments!

I have imported several downloaded youtube videos in 720 or 1080p into Premier Pro but when playing in the video editor the picture quality is a little blurry and not as sharp as the original video is on youtube. Is there a way to import the video onto Premier Pro without losing the original quality?
Many thanks to anybody who can provide any guidance.Whenever Premiere plays back video, it's going to appear to be of lower quality than the original. This doesn't mean that any quality has been lost, and when you export you will have your original quality again.
Just make make sure that the dropdown in your monitor next to wrench icon is set to "Full." If it's set to "1/2" or "1/4" that means playback will be really low quality (to speed things up). Even at full though, it will be a little less sharp than the original when it's playing. When you pause, then you'll see the original quality again. -
I am importing digital video into my movie. But when it imports, the video has glitches in it every 5 seconds or so. When I look at the uicktime file, it has no glitches. What is up and what can I do?
I also just posted about this- having same issue. Make an appointment & take it in. I've called Apple twice & they could not help me over the phone.

Importing vob files into premier pro
When I import a file from a DVD into Premier Pro, it only shows two thirds of the screen. All is viewable when watching DVD which is in widescreen.
Can anyone assist?Hi Ann,
Here is a screen shot with sequence setting dialogue box open as well as a DVD player shot showing the full version of the video screen. (Unfortunately, the pic of the video would not translate). I have been told by Adobe that it may be the video card not operating well with the recently downloaded Yosemite OS.
Still searching.

Cannot import mpg files into Premier Pro CS3
I've read the wiki and looked through the FAQs and did not find this issue, so here goes.
The file began life as an mp4 from a GoPro HD camera. It plays correctly in Apple's software, but will not import into Premier. Found the KB on
Error message "Unsupported format or damaged file" when you import MP4 clips into Premiere Pro CS3 and changed the extension to MPG. This got me audio, but no video. The MPG plays correctly (audio and video) in Windows Media Player as well as in Bridge CS4.
Windows Vista 64-bit, 8 Gig RAM, Intel Q9300 Quad Core Processor, GeForce 9600 GT video card w/1Gig DDR3 RAM.
Any ideas?
JohnPrPro is pretty well centered on pro formats. Many find that other NLE's, designed for consumer cameras and formats, work better and some natively. It's a tough call. I love the interface and workflow of PrPro, and use it 99% of the time. However, with heavily-compressed, delivery-only formats/CODEC's, some other NLE's work better - to start. I use those as converters, or do batch conversions with DigitalMedia converter, but it's shareware, and not freeware.
Some users want PrPro to embrace every possible CODEC and variation on each, with hourly updates, as mfgrs make changes, and others want it to only perform 100% with pro-formats and leave the consumer stuff totally alone - there is PrElements for that. Me? I just roll with the punches, and convert from X to Y, and edit in my chosen NLE. Kinda' the "Jimmy Buffett" of video editing.
Good luck,

Video Problem, Premier pro cs5.5
Hi there, i am trying to import some video into adobe cs5.5 but everytime i do it comes up with this error message " this file has no audio or video streams" now this isnt true as i can play the videos using media player and they work fine and i can also upload them into windows movie maker 2011 without hassle, however i need them in CS5.5. Any ideas what might be causing it?
Well, i have an iphone 2gs, and it has a video recorder on it. I have used it before to shoot small videos and thenn upload the footage into Premier pro, it has worked everytime but this time it isnt working. The clips themselves are :
Frame width : 288
frame height 384
data rate: 1244 kbps
total bitrate: 1291kbps
frame rate: 14 frames per second
As it stands the movies are just saved as quicktime movies in "my videos"
Surely there must be a way to fix this, the movies are just short clips from a boat trip that i went on, recorded by me, so there is no reason for them to not work -
Import mpg video into Premiere Pro CS6
When I try to import video taken with a Sony Handicam DCR SX63 I get a "There was an error decompressing audio or video". In searching this issue I find many people with the same issue but never a resolution. Is there one? That a novice could implement??
MPG format is clearly stated to be compatible. Copied directly from camera to computer via USB it plays just fine. Converting it to a different format (MP4) with DVDVideoSoft Free Studio I can import it into Premiere Pro and do my splicing / editing.
But.. my end result is not as clear (and files are much larger) so feel if I could use the original and stay in that format.. my results would be much better.
My project is very simple.. combine some clips, remove some bad footage and burn to a DVD.. any advice on alternate formats would be appreciated as well.
Thank you for your time
RalphThank you for your time John.
Your last link deals with taking files off a SD card.. this is not my case but there is mention of renaming files creating a problem. So.. I re-download all my video from my camera using Windows Explore and copied the entire folder and root (Videos\MP_ROOT\101PNV01). My previous download using Windows Media.. did in fact rename the files. However I get the same error when trying to import with Premiere Pro.
In my previous searches for a solution I was pointed to your mediainfo applet.. running that on any of the newly downloaded video gives me this report: Open to more suggestions..

Importing .mts AVCHD video into Premiere Pro CS5.5, HELP!
Hello,
I am new on Adobe forums and I nedd a question answered.
I have seen that there is no definite answer on how to import .mts files from my Canon Vixia HFR20 to Premiere Pro CS5.5.
I get "The file has an unsupported compression type" message. For now I convert the videos to .AVI but i would why would I continuosly convert them?
I bought the camera mainly for the HD, so help soon would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in Advance,
Ethan
P.S: I have a PC to put that in mind...Post a screen cap of what presets you have.
Maybe you have gotten the revert to trial bug and lost your options to play these files since they dont play in the trial version.
Here is what mine look like.
Here is the Properties of the file you uploaded.
And here is what sequence that was created when dragging to the New Item button.
See if you have the same options.

Importing .avi file into premier pro CS3 without losing quality
I have used CAMStudio to capture datalogging on my screen. The file size is 1280 x 800 pixels with a frame rate of 200 frames/second. I have tried using virtual dub and many other programs to create an avi file that I can import into premier without losing quality. None of this has worked. I have tried using the forum post http://forums.adobe.com/message/2060872#2060872 but this didn't work for me either. If anyone has a simple solution for this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Even if anyone could suggest a different screen capture program the will smoothly import into premiere without losing quality.
Very recently, Jeff Bellune posted his workflow for Camtasia/CamStudio material. I'd do a Search for "Techsmith" then filter on this forum and on People = Jeff Bellune. IIRC, he basically updated Dan Isaacs' suggestions. I do not think that his techniques were limited to CS4, but could be wrong.
If I can find that post, I'll add the link here. Actually, I need to make sure that I have that link in an article that I did on Camtasia/CamStudio workflow elsewhere.
Good luck,

Problem with import from Onlocation to Premier Pro CS5.5
i noticed that in upgrading from Production premium CS 5 to production premium CS5.5 when one imports a shoot schedule from on-location to premier pro the import to premiere pro no longer convert to the more relevant name created in OL. Ie. if the shot in OL was Smith Tummy Tuck - when you import via the media browser - using the readable OL file - the file imports as 00036.mts - in CS5.0 it would import with the OL file name ie. Smith Tummy Tuck
This was a great feature but what happened to it in 5.5?most recently it was all within CS 5.5
I am going to go back to another computer that has CS5 and see if I can figure anything out -- seems strange that this would have been dropped by adobe cs5 to cs5.5 in fact in the CS 5 product evangelist promo this was feature highlighted!
I know when I 1swt started with CS5 in Feb 2011 this finctionality worked without an issue -
I am having a problem importing MP4 video into Premier Elements 11.
When I try to edit a video the highlights are turning black/grey and other colours are turning white or grey making the video look like a negative . . . sometimes the colour goes completely but not always. Also, when this happens the whole thing freezes. I tried running the videos on QuickTime and they run okay which makes me think it's not the graphics card but Adobe Elements that's the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

•What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
•What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
•Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
•ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
•nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
MP4 is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

How To Import .THM Files Into Premiere Pro CS5
Hello:
I just purchased a Canon Vixia HFM50. When I use the presets, there is support for the AVCHD format. The file extension for the AVCHD format from the Canon is *.THM. Yet, that file type is not recognized. How do I import it?
Regards,
Rich LocusHi Rich Locus,
Thanks for your post. THM is an image file format for thumbnails. Images are made smaller for browsing purposes, usually because it is easier to view and takes less time to load.
THM files can be viewed by most image preview or editing programs on both Macs and PCs. THM files are similar to .JPEG files, and those .
THM files representing image files can usually be converted to JPEG format by changing the name of the file from .THM to .JPEG or .JPG.
THM files can also be used by videos. When extracting a video file from a camcorder, a thumbnail will be created to represent the video, usually taken from the video’s first frame.
The .THM file will then have the same name as the .AVI file that it represents. With Canon-created video files, the .THM file also contains the metadata for the video, and therefore needs to remain with and have the same name as the .AVI file. Please update if changing the extension of the file works.
Regards,
Vinay
