How burn DVD

I cannot seem to figure out how to burn a DVD.  As soon as I put a new DVD-R into the superdrive.  Do I need special discs to do this on a Mac?

Hello odontoid,
It sounds like you would like to know how to burn a data dvd on your computer using Mac OS X Lion. I found this article for you to help with that named:
OS X Lion: Burn a CD or DVD in the Finder
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3807
Insert a blank disc into the optical drive. If you see a dialog, choose Open Finder from the pop-up menu. Select “Make this action the default” if you want to open the Finder every time you insert a blank disc. The disc appears on your desktop.
Double-click the disc to open its window, and then drag the files and folders you want to burn to the window.Aliases to the files are placed in the disc’s window. The original files are not moved or deleted.
Arrange and rename the files. When the disc is burned, the items on the disc will have the same names and locations that they have in the disc window. After the disc is burned, you cannot change them.
Choose File > “Burn [disc],” and then follow the instructions. The files that the aliases point to are burned to the disc. In addition, if any folder you added to the disc contains aliases, the original files for those aliases are burned to the disc as well.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
Sterling

  • Mac mini user. LaCie burner. How burn DVD from slideshow made on mac

Have burned a slideshow before but have forgotten just how. Can't get the LaCie to burn the DVD disc. UsingDVD+R double layer Memorex. Help.

I go to finder, pictures, I Photo slideshow folder, Choose slideshow, right click on mouse to "Burn", click and the indication is it is writing, finishing, verifying. I put the disc on our player at the TV and it says "disc not recognizable"  The disc has been incised, so something is happening. No pictures are visible. I have tried 3 times to no avail.
I have made this slide show a few months ago of pictures on a trip. It is 1200 images, so quite large. I misplaced the disc and really am miffed at not being able to reburn it.

I don't know how i can burn a DVD with my imac

    i bought 2 weeks ago OS 10.7.4
If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • How burn DVD from .mov

I would like to burn a DVD direct from a Quick Time movie that I created in iMovie, without going through the iDVD process of creating a project, selecting a theme, etc. The movie is in .mov format. Is there a way to do this?  I simply want to burn the .mov to a DVD so that it will play on a DVD player. Thank you.
    NJZ

You can use iDVD to auto-play a movie, such that the Theme never appears. Open a new project in iDVD and click on the Map View icon. Drag the QuickTime movie onto the first box. Click on the box so that it is highlighted, then go to the menu and select Advanced>Loop Movie.
Once you've burnt the DVD, it will play automatically when inserted into a DVD Player, with no menu or Theme appearing. Also, when the movie finishes playing it will start again. Click Stop on the DVD remote to cancel playback.

  • How burn DVD from iPhoto in MacBook Pro

I am trying to burn photos to a DVD . I inserted blank DVD-R, selected the photos, and selected burn  from the Share drop down in iPhoto.  Nothing happens.

There a few ways, but the best instructions are in the Help menu in Finder. Type Burn a CD or DVD and it has all the options (I'm not trying to be sarcastic in pointing you at the Help menu, it's just the easiest way of showing you the options , honest).

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • How to burn DVD in iMovie 10

I've just upgraded to iMovie 10 and cannot figure out how to burn my movie to a DVD. I don't want to share on Vimeo, CNN, etc. I just want a movie for me?
What may I missing? Help, please!

    RuffiansRide,
The manual is not going to help you figure out how to burn a DVD. Apple discontinued iDVD several years ago and no longer supports it and in version 10 of iMovie has removed all references to iDVD or burning DVDs.
That said, iDVD stil works beautifully and remains the best option for creating nice-looking DVDs on a Mac.
You said that everything appears to be uploading to iCloud. Have you tried unchecking "Automatically upload content to iCloud" in iMovie's Preferences?
Here is a step by step on how to create a DVD from iMovie 10 using iDVD 7.1.2. If you do not have iDVD, you can probably substitute Toast everywhere I used iDVD (I don't have Toast so can't verify this).
    1. Create a project in iMovie 10.0.1
    2. Go to File>Share>File... and for Size choose Large 540P (960 x 540) and click Next
    3. Choose a location on the hard drive to save the file to.
    4. Wait for the blue circle activity indicator to finish.
    5. In Finder, verify that iMovie created an MP4 file in the location specified in step 3.
    6. Open iDVD and click "Create New Project."
    7. Give the project a name and save it to your hard drive.
    8. Drag the file you created earlier from the Finder into your iDVD project window.
(or go to File>Import>Video... and choose your video there)
    9. Make any adjustments to drop zones, etc.
    10. Click the burn button.
    11. Insert a DVD and let it do its thing.
This produces a working DVD for me.
    Here are my software specs:
    OS X 10.9 Mavericks
    iMovie 10.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.2

  • One of my 2 Mac Books burns DVDs - how?

I bought my Macbook in 2006 and I'm able to burn DVDs (just files, not movies) in it. I tought all Mac Books did this, until my parents bought a new one in January 2007. Same computer, same system, and we never "pimped up" any of the computers. We use them just like they left the store. How come all Mac Books only read DVDs but don't burn them (they are just ejected, right?) and the older computer came from the store burning DVDs? I'd be happy if anyone could help!
    Thanks.

You don't order it customized. It comes stock with a dvd burner. There are three models of each MacBook line. Two white ones and a black. One white one has a combo drive this is the low end one. The second white one has a superdrive and burns dvds. You apparently have the mid tier model which has the burner. As I said it is not customized it comes that way.

  • How burn data DVD in Win XP?

Hi, I'm wondering how I can burn a data DVD on the superdrive in Win XP? It seems the OS only recognizes the drive as a CD read/write.
    -Michael

    Hi Michael,
have a look at DeepBurner Free http://www.deepburner.com/
XP has sometimes the tendency to not show a DVD-Burner as a DVD-Burner but as a CD-Burner only.
However with the a.m. program you should be able to burn DVDs.

  • New to MAC. How to burn DVD of iMovie

Just created our first school project on iMovie but now cannot figure out how to burn DVD. Is it not possible? We are VERY unfamiliar with the Mac world.....thanks so much in advance!

    Hi
    I would in iMovie'08
    • move from Events to a new Project - building a movie
    • Share this to Media Browser
    • Close iMovie
    • Open iDVD
    • Import movie from Media Browser
    • Design the iMovie menu at Your liking
    • Set DVD burn-speed down to x4 or less in iDVD Preferences
    • Set at Pro-Quality encoding
    • Use a Good Quality DVD - I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    • I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk - so that iDVD runns OK.
    • Save as a DiskImage
    • Test this with Apple DVD-tool
    • If OK - Burn it with iDVD - or Apple Disk Util tool (need no re-calculation)

  • Exported slideshow from Iphoto11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine but show stops 1/2way through because DVD has 2 chapters. How do I eliminate chapters?

I exported slideshow from Iphoto 11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine, but then when playing on DVD player show stops about 12 way and starts over. Seems there are 2 chapters in show. I wan t show to play straight through until end. How do I elimiante chapters or solve problem. Thanks. Bob Low

    Try this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Play the disk image with DVD Player and see if you get the same start over half way thru.
Did you create the slideshow in iPhoto in the slideshow mode?
or were you in an album and then used the Share ➙ iDVD menu option?  What I'm trying to find out is if the slideshow in iDVD is a movie file or an iDVD slideshow with the photos from iPhoto? If it's the latter how many photos in the slideshow?

  • How to burn DVD and can i burn the same DVD later if its having any space..

How to burn DVD and can i burn the same DVD later if its having any space..?

This is called sessions, but it is not recommended and has been largely abandoned by software developers. This was a good thing in the late 1990’s, when opticals discs were quite expensive, and file size quite low.
applications which reportedly may do this are
    - isoBurn: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/40109/isoburn
    - others, I do not remember which ones, try SimpyBurns, Burn, Dragon Burn and LiquidCD, you will find all in macupdate.com, test which ones suit you.
Otherwise, I do not recommend you such time consuming and inefficient solutions, optical drives are being replaces by more capacitive, cheaper and more practical solutions, like external disks. But, if you insist, you will find what you are looking for.
