How can a Win2K/XP user access my Shared folder as Guest?

Well, it's all in the question, guys. I don't want them to be able to log into my machine. All they need to do is send me some files or take some of mine from \Users\Shared. Surely it shouldn't be too difficult, right?
We're in an office wired LAN and I'm the only Mac among many incarnations of Windoze. Right now they all have to log in as 'Administrator' (just the accoune name, not the kind of account, of course...) but it means that I have to fiddle with the permissions of the shared dir in that user account so I can access it from my regular account ('Alex') and I would prefer something more straight forward. Such as a Guest User log-in option.

Try Sharepoints. I'm not certain about this, but I think the only way to get access to a Mac over the network is to have an account on the Mac. So, you could set up "guest" as an account and let them log in as that, but it wouldn't give them access to the Shared folder. Sharepoints will let you "share" it out.

We used the WRITE FileUtilsService with this input :
Pathname Pattern (template)
{$/process_data/@remotePath$}{$/process_data/@pdfName$}.pdf
Document (variable)
Pdfdocument (a document object containing the pdf to write)
with this setup you can write to a shared folder in the server running
workbench, you can't reach external resources so no problem relative to security
and user.
then we use a java class running on the server to move the pdf from the local
folder to the final location.

How can I tell *who* is using a shared folder on my Mac?

I've searched high and low looking for a way to (1) get notified when someone connects to my Mac via AFP, and (2) see who is connected. Except for the System Preferences->Sharing panel, which will reveal how many users are connected, there's nothing I can find that will tell me anything about current AFP connections.
Perhaps there's a third-party utility that will do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At this time, Who Is Connected? seems more useful for SSH than AFP. Well, unfortunately I never use SSH...
I got a little more out of Network Utility. It's more cryptic, you kind of have to know what all the code means, after clicking all the buttons I was able to locate something that said "afp" and identify the IP address of my other connected Mac but a lot of Mac users wouldn't even know to look for that.
I guess this problem is crying out for a solution that is truly Mac-like in its readability.

How can I change the name of a shared folder/hard drive hooked up to my airport extreme?

I was curious if anybody here may know the answer to the problem I'm facing. It seems like such an easy task, but I just can't figure it out.
I have an airport extreme a1143 hooked up to my network directly to my router via Ethernet. I have a USB Ext. HD connected to AEBS. When I click on the Airport Extreme in "Shared" under Finder on my Mac, it pulls up a little folder with people on it (meaning it's shared). It is my Ext. HD, but it's called "NO NAME".
As silly as it sounds, like it to be called something other than, "NO NAME". Does anyone know how I can change this?

Eject the drive, if is mounted on your desktop
Temporarily, connect the drive directly to your Mac, and wait for it to mount on the desktop
Click slowly on the name of the drive, and you will be able to edit the name of the drive
Eject the drive and connect it back to the AirPort Extreme

You cannot restrict access to a folder using computer accounts. The access to the share folder can only giving to everyone or local accounts if the network environment is
Workgroup.
Because the computer account never tries to access the shared folders. The access attempt is made by the user account; and if the user account isn't in the ACL of the file, he won't get access.

How can I have multiple users on iTunes (in order to connect to a shared office iPad)? Currently each of us has our own iTunes account, so I've made an "all office" Apple ID. However, I can't seem to get two different accounts (my personal and the office) to work on my machine. Even when I login as "the office", my personal library is still showing. Additionally, when I try to setup with a first-time use in iTunes, I get an error that I don't meet the minimum age requirement - no matter what birthdate I enter!

The library exists regardless of which user is logged in.
The only way around that is to create different user accounts on the computer.
There is no way to have 20 unique iTunes users access a shared iTunes under a single login on the computer.

I've been trying to figure out a clean way to do this too. I think you may need more than one Apple ID – one that is shared and used to purchase "sharable" items and then "individual" Apple IDs for you and your son. That's the idea that I'm pursuing for the moment.
It seems that there must be a way to do this, App Store purchases for the Mac are licensed across multiple machines. iPhone app purchases have "all your devices" licensing. Makes me think that Apple has a process in mind for sharing an account (or associating a device with multiple accounts).
Other things I've learned:
- Apparently you can't merge Apple ID accounts. I asked about this once at an Apple Store and was told that there was no way to do it.
- If you share an Apple ID the Messages app behaves in a somewhat surprising manner. It must use your Apple ID to decide where messages should be sent because all users get all messages. This can make it very hard to organize a surprise party :-)

Does your portal support anonymous access? If so, make sure you are using the authlessanonymous mode. This mode only creates one session that is shared for all anonymous users. This is much more efficient than anonymous access, which creates a session for each anonymous user.
I have no other recommendation for limiting users to a single login. In general, web applications do not behave like this. What if a user closes their browser without logging out? Does the user have to wait until the session times out in order to log back in again?
The same thing is true for users that are mobile. If a user leaves their office without logging out and then attempts to log in with a laptop in the conference room, then access will be denied in your implementation. Users do not expect this type of limitation being built into the system.
If you are having problems scaling, then you need to look at your architecture and perhaps add some more resources. Also, make sure you are making efficient use of the authlessanonymous access mode as stated above.

I have a lots of scenarios that use XI´s WebService for integration. For the 3rd party systems be able to use the WebServices, they need an authentication in Web Application Server.
The question is: How can I create a user with LIMITED access to ONLY ONE Webservice in XI ?
For example, I want a user called webservice1 that can access only http://myserver:50100/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel=:SERVICE:SOAP_Sender_CC.
I don´t wanna use HTTPS because the 3rd party systems are very limited and they don´t have HTTPS support.

Yes, I have up the user in the Send Agreement. My SOAP Adapter Communication Chanel is configured there.
I´m using the correct user in webservice authentication. Its the same I created in SU01.
Without those authentication configurations (when All users can use the webservice), I can log in with this user. But when I restrict by doing the configurations, it doesn´t work.
I just made a test by restricting the service for another user and the error message is different.
When I log with a different user than the configured one, the error is:
java.security.AccessControlException: USER has no permission for accessing party service :SYSTEM_TEST...
When I log with the configured user authentication, the error is:
com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.DeliveryException: XIServer:NO_EXEC_PERMISSION:....
Seems there´s still some missing configuration.

I think you are using the wrong terminology. You can browse the hidden share of any pc if you know the ip and have a valid user account on the pc by typing in the following \\computername\c$ or \\ipaddress\c$ . It should prompt you for a user account. You may have to allow this through the windows firewall (or disable it completely).

How can I disable a user or prevent the user from accessing BPC and yet still maintain the user info in the BPC? This is for future reference (tracing) and audit purpose.
Currently we disable the user by removing all team profiles, member access proflles, and task profiles from the user.

I am still confused. Maybe my question is not clear. Here what I want to do.
User U currently is assigned to a team EndUserTeam.
EndUserTeam has task profile EndUserTaskPrf and has member profile EdUserMbrAccPrf.
EndUserTaskPrf can excute, submit data, analyze, add comment, etc (typical norma end user tasks)
EndUserMbrAccPrf has access to certain members of applications.
Now, what I want to do is to not allow the user to log into the BPC.
Should I remove the user from team EndUserTeam (which in turns remove EndUserTaskPrf and EndUserMbrAccPrf)?
Or is there a way to block the user from logging into BPC without removing his/her from teams, task profiles, or member access profiles?
From your answers, it seems i have to remove all tasks, all member access permissions, all teams.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If you want others to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account(s). In the other account(s), enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in their source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.

I have 2 user id's with apple, i bought 26 songs from my laptop recently using my work e-mail. I plug my i-pod to sync it and it says that my i-pod is tuned with another library. i don't want to erase the songs I have already because they are about 760 and the new ones are 26 only. how can I combine both user id's and consolidate all the music into one user id?
everytime i try to do something it asks me to reset the password. I have done it already 6 times.
there is no phone # to call.

Alright, please follow these steps in order to get it working properly again.
Please change your Apple ID back to your old email address (that you used as Apple ID before) here: http://appleid.apple.com
Then go to all your devices - iPhones, iPads, Mac etc. - ("Settings > iCloud") and delete your iCloud account from this devices (+ turn off Find My iPhone, but I guess it will ask you that anyway)
After that go back to http://appleid.apple.com sign in again, and now change your Apple ID again to your new email address.
Finally, set up your iCloud account on all your devices again.
Now, everything should working properly again.
