How can access hours be restricted with airport extreme

I want to be able to stop my kids from accessing the internet and bogging things down during the day when working from home.  Is there an easy way to do this with an Airport base station network or by setting up a guest network?  I have tried using parental controls but that limits all computer use, not just online access hours.  Any help would be appreciated.

You do have a number of choices available to you to restrict access, either completely through AirPort's Access Control, or limiting what they will be able to access on the Internet. If your goal is to restrict them from particular sites or categories of sites, like P2P sharing torrents, one option is to use OpenDNS as your DNS provider. Through their service, you can easily configure what they can access or not.

Yes, I believe so. Please check out the NetPortal app. I don't have an iPad, but I use it on my iPod Touch to access files on my Time Capsule. It is available from the iTunes App Store.

  • How can I open ports on my AirPort Extreme, from WINDOWS?

I have an Airport Extreme as my router, and I have a Windows-based computer. I need to open ports on the router (ironically, it is for my Apple TV).
However, even though I can use the Airport Utility for Windows (latest version 5.5.3), I cannot open ports from the application.
Everywhere I look, I am supposed to have a firewall tab in the Advanced section, but I do not have it. The only tabs that I have in Advanced are:
    Logging and Statistics
    MobileMe
    IPv6

  • How can I see the disk in airport extreme

    Hello
I have an airport extreme, I downloaded the Airport Utility, I connected the printer and everyting is fine, I can access the printer from other computers at home. Then I unplugged the printer and connected an USB disk (working of course), and everything is fine, Airport Utility detected it. However, I dont know how can I access the disk from the computers. I have all windows 7 computers at home, but now way to see the disk. What I am doing wrong
    thank your

I don't use this setting, so can't offer much assistance, but do know that your computer is exposed to the Internet, so it will receive all inbound traffic.
Normally, a typical use of Default Host would be to setup a game console to allow online gaming when NAT settings otherwise would not allow communications to occur.
You might want to start a new post for your question...but to get informed responses....you will need to state what you are trying to do. what steps you have performed, etc.

  • Can't even get started with airport extreme

I have 2 windows vista computers on a Dlink router to a cable modem provided by my ISP. All of this is on the second floor of my house.
I want to be able to play airtunes via airport express downstairs with my stereo speakers. I could never get airport express to do this alone so I went to a retail store and was told by the MAC salesman I needed an Airport Extreme.
I tried connecting my airport extreme via ethernet cable to my router and got a flashing amber light. I followed the instructions but now airport utility will not even recognize the airport extreme not to mention that I haven't even been able to add the airport express.
I basically need help from step 1 as well as an overview of how I will be doing this.
    Thanks

Hello cturnerlewis. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
To be able to stream via AirTunes to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) downstairs the AX just need to join an existing wireless network. If you current D-Link router is wireless, then the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) was NOT necessary. However, I will assume that it is not.
What you will want to do, in a nutshell, is the following two things:
    1. Set up a wireless network with the AEBS, and
    2. Configure the AX to join the AEBS's wireless network.
Here are the basic steps for both ...
Step 1: 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station Setup (AEBSn) w/Cable Modem
Perform a "hard" reset of the AEBSn.
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
o Power-off the Cable modem, AEBSn, & computer(s); Wait at least 30 minutes.
o Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    Setup the AEBSn
Either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or, temporarily, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Mode, check these settings:
    AirPort - Base Station
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    o Base Station Password: (optional)
    o Contact: (optional)
    o Location: (optional)
    o Set time automatically (optional)
    o Time Zone: <select your time zone>
o Status Light: Always On (Default)
o Allow configuration over Ethernet WAN port (unchecked)
o Advertise configuration globally using Bonjour (unchecked)
    AirPort - Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
o Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Allow this network to be extended (unchecked)
    o Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
    o Channel: Automatic
    o Wireless Security: None
    Internet - Internet Connection
    o Connect Using: Ethernet
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    o IP Address: <provided by your ISP>
    o Subnet Mask: <provided by your ISP>
    o Router Address: <provided by your ISP>
    o DNS Server(s): <provided by your ISP>
    o Domain Name: <provided by your ISP>
    o DHCP Client ID: (optional)
o Ethernet WAN Port: Automatic (Default)
o Connection Sharing: Share a public IP address
Once you have verified Internet access, I strongly suggest that you use wireless encryption (WPA or WPA2) to secure your network.
Step 2: AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - AirTunes Setup
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing AEBSn's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • How can I see my HD over Airport extreme

I have a Seagate 3TB HD with USB3 ( backward compatible to USB2) connected to the Airport Extreme USB port. The HD is formatted to be readable to the Mac and Windows in my workgroup. The Seagate light is on so I know the USB port is connecting. The HD is password protected and I put that password into the Airport Utility. I have made the access to the HD account dependant and put in the 3 of us who will be using it.  In Airport Utility 5.6 I can see the 3 TB drive.  But it doesn't appear on my desktop. (Note I have downgraded  Airport Utiity from v.6, because the 5.6 is more compatible  with another wireless adapter I have.)  Please Help.

can i link the airport extreme and the airport express and use the latter just to play music wireless in the home system?
    Yes

  • How can I configure my first gen Airport extreme?

does anyone know how I can configure my 1st Gen Airport Extreme with my latest Airport Utility? Or is there another way?

A 1st Generation AirPort Extreme is model number A1143.  Please check on the bottom of your device to confirm that you have this model number.
A1143 can be configured using the latest version of AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion OS X (10.8.4).
If you don't see model A1143......you do not have a 1st Generation AirPort Extreme. What model number do you see?

  • Can't connect to network with Airport Extreme

I have just purchased and installed an Airport Extreme card (firmware version 405.1) into my eMac (with ATI graphics). The card appears in System Profiler, and I have attached the antenna wire. However, it cannot see my network (the only network in range). My iPhone can see the network when it is in the same location (as can a few Windows devices).
I have tried turning off encyption, to no avail. I believe my router is broadcasting on a frequency my card can recieve.
I have also tried resetting my SystemConfiguration folder. What else should I try?

    Thanks again for the suggestions.
I had tried the router on 1 and 6, just tried it on 11 as well. No joy.
    It is broadcasting the SSID.
    MAC filtering isn't on.
...and then I put it back to channel 1, and now it's working!
It's working now, and there doesn't seem to be any settings that are different to when I started.
The signal is increadibly low though. When I put the access point antenna literally in the drivebay, I get three bars (out of four). A meter away I get 2 or 1 and everything times out.
It appears that something is wrong with the antenna wire, or the connection to it. This was probably an important factor all along.

  • How to Set Up Time Capsule With Airport Extreme and Airport Express

Just got a new 1TB Time Capsule. I want it to be the main base station for my network. I already have a network set up with an older Airport Extreme base station and an Airport Express to extend it. I am thinking that rather than setting up the Time Capsule to "join" the old network, the best approach is to disconnect the Airport Extreme and Airport Express and reset them. Then set up the Time Capsule as a brand new network and bring the reset Aiport Extreme and Express onto the new network as if my original network never existed.
Is that the right approach or am I complicating it? Can I just join the Time Capsule to the existing network and still make it the main base station for the network?

I'd first use AirPort Utility to "Save a Copy As" of your AirPort Extreme settings. Then disconnect it, connect the Time Capsule in its place, and use AirPort Utility's "Import" function to read those settings. (Both of those functions are under AirPort Utility's "File" menu.) You may have to adjust a few settings. Once you have the Time Capsule working as you want, you can reconfigure your AirPort Extreme unit as you wish.

  • How can I print from ipad2 via airport extreme to hp printer on USB.

Is there a way to get iPad2 to print via airport extreme to a non wireless hp printer?

Apple - iPad - Print right from your iPad with AirPrint.
Unfortunately, AirPrint will only work with AirPrint enabled HP printers.
Check the HP site. They may have an app available you can use for your USB / Airport printer.

  • How to get nat type 1 with airport extreme and ps3?

I use airport extreme as my default router. I have my ps3 connected to a separate airport in a different room. I can only get nat type 2 and want to get nat type 1 as I can barely connect to any hosts online.

NAT type 1 is when you connect your PS3 directly to your modem with no router in between.  The problem with this is that there will be no way to share your internet connections with other devices.  NAT type 2 is where you have a router in between your modem and your PS3, and NAT type 3 is where you have some or all needed ports blocked which is where you would have issues.
NAT type 2 is a correct way for your PS3 to work, and your wireless connection strength may be the reason for connection issues.

  • Can't connect to MacBook with Airport Extreme

I just swapped Airport Extreme base with new Airport Extreme 8012.N and now my Macbook can't connect to internet, keeps cutting out and dropping off. I have an iMac G5 connected via ethernet to Airport Extreme and Macbook in living room. It was working fine with old Airport Extreme router. I also have an Apple Express (not new 8012.N ) but it just blinks orange when plugged in. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to power down everything to start with. Make a clean slate so to speak.
I switched from an older Air Port Express to the new Extreme. Run the new software and when you power back up the new base station should show in the window. Follow the steps. It made me feel stupid the 1st time through and I had to do it again. You have to take your bent paperclip and reset.
After I got the new base station up and running I took the old Express and used it for Airtunes. At first it just blinked and wouldn't show up on the list of devices. I had to do the paperclip thing. And there it was! Green light! Follow the steps for Airtunes. Then I had to reconfigure my settings for my HP 3300 series wireless printer. That wasn't so bad, it all worked.
The machines all work well; we all just need pay close attention to the instructions.
I think that the Apple on line instructions could be a bit more clear. It all worked as it was supposed to but it was certainly a trial and error process.

  • How can I force my Second Generation Airport Extreme to use 2.4GHz when extending the network of my Fifth Generation Airport Extreme?

    Hi,
Would be great if anyone can help.  I have setup my Second Generation Airport Extreme to extend the network of the Fifth Generation Airport Extreme.  The 2nd generation Airport extreme seems to automatically get set to use 5GHz vs 2.4GHz.  I would like to force it to use 2.4GHz so my older devices can connect to it.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

Enable the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz network on your 5th Gen AirPort Extreme.
Then, the 2nd Gen Extreme will only "see" the 2.4 GHz network, and extend that signal.
If you are not sure how to do this, post back to tell us what operating system you are using on your computer so we will know what version of AirPort Utility you are using....so we can provide the correct steps for the setup.

  • How to access the pendrive on my Airport Extreme via my iPhone 3GS?

I connected a pendrive on my Airport Extreme.
After connecting my Mac to the Airport Extreme it showed the pendrive.
But when i connected my iPhone to the Extreme it did not show the pendrive.
Is there any app or way that I can view or acces my pendrive on my iPhone?

Try an App like FileBrowser from the App Store.
