  • Why did you take away my REFRESH button in FF 29? How can anyone with a clue decide it is a good idea to remove a BASIC feature like a REFRESH BUTTON?

This is absolutely ridiculous. How can anyone think it is a GOOD IDEA to REMOVE basic features such as a REFRESH BUTTON from something called a WEB BROWSER?!
No, I do not want to have to go all the way over to no-man's land on the right hand side of the address bar to click a tiny little refresh button over there! I want to put it where it ALWAYS has been on ALL my browsers. ON THE FREAKING LEFT next to the back button.
The person who came up with idea should be fired.
The person who approved this idea should be fired.
The person who let the final build go out the door without including a simple and easy way to get the refresh button back as part of a "customize" feature should also be fired.
None of these people have clue about what people want in a CUSTOMIZABLE web browser.
No, I do not want to revert to some past "classic theme". That is not a solution That is ridiculous.
No, I do not want the add-on bar restored. That is not a solution. Do not tell me that it is a solution.
What I want, is a button, in the customize box, that is a refresh button, that I can put where I want it, like it should have been from the start!
    Fix it!

    That is not a solution.
I want it fixed (like thousands of other people).
I don't want to hack it up.. or use add-ons. I just want my damned refresh button back and I want it put it on the frickin left.
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more.
Quit screwing around and fix this!

  • I have recently inherited a G4 powerbook it has an old administrator how can i become the adminstrator so i can add drop and fix the date time function?

how can I change the administrator, i have recently inherited a g4 powerbook but can't make any changes, i have no discs nor do i have the original admin's password?

Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
    1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
    2. wait for terminal show
    3. release keys
    4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
    5. press enter
    6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    7. press enter
    8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
    9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml
Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
       1. Reboot
       2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
       3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
              * mount -uw /
              * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
              * shutdown -h now
       4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!

  • How can ANYONE be happy with this piece of junk? Seriously?

I started by importing my iPhoto library. It's 10k pictures, many if
which I could probably delete if I had a good tool like Aperture to
help me. In iPhoto I have about 50 or 60 keywords and I have applied
at least some keywords to lots of my pictures. When I try to search my
photos by keyword in iPhoto, it responds instantly, much like Apple's
    spotlight technology does.
The first thing I noticed was that just bringing up the filter window
takes 60 seconds. I wish I were kidding. The other thing I noticed
was, As I am adjusting the filter, or adding new criteria like EXIF
aperture setting, the software automatically starts searching even
before I have finished specifying all the criteria. Normally I think
that wouldn't bother me, but it took 60 seconds to perform each filter
    operation.
OK - so filter is slow, I'll get over it. I really wanted this app for
the image management and adjustments capabilities. So, I found an
image that had a bad exposure and I selected the exposure slider and
moved it to the right to brighten the picture. My CPU pegged for
several minutes before the slider moved one pixel and any visible
changes appeared on the screen. It shouldn't take minutes, it should
take milliseconds, like in iPhoto or Picasa or any other image
manipulation program I have ever run.
I think the problem is that it was creating a new version of the
image, and I came to discover that any operation that affects the
number of images in your "working set" can take minutes or more.
There are many other really simple operations I wanted to do which I
could not do because the application pegged the CPU for hours and made
no visible progress, and I was forced to Force Quit the
application. Here's a perfect example. I noticed that all the photos
imported from my iPhoto library were keyworded with the "iPhoto
Original" keyword. How nice I thought. Then there was another keyword
called "iPhoto Edited" which I thought was even better because what I
really wanted to do was delete all my changes made in iPhoto, go back
the original files, and then make non-destructive versions of those
    changes with Aperture.
So, I created a filter to find all the images that had the "iPhoto
Edited" keyword associated with them. Turns how that those images were
already automatically stacked with the corresponding original
versions. So I decided to Unstack the images so I could delete the
"iPhoto Edited" ones. Unfortunately that operation never completed
after hours. I tried selecting just 3 of the images to unstack, and
that took 10 minutes. I tried 10 images at once and that never
completed after an hour. I had to Force Quit the application many
    times.
Then somebody gave me the hint that to accomplish this task you need
to do the initial filter, create an album based on the filter results,
and then perform all your operations in that album. I gave that a
try. It took about 10 minutes to set up that album because of the
slowness of the system, but once in that album I found I was able to
unstack images much faster: still hundreds of times too slow, but
still much better. 2 hours later I had them all unstacked, and had
    deleted the iPhoto Edited images.
This is the kind of pain we're talking about.
I've tried importing from iPhoto without the keywords to see if that
might be what's making it slow. It appears to be a big part of the
problem but I cannot be sure.
I tried moving my photos out of individual per-roll projects that were
created by the iPhoto import and into a single large project, to see
if that would help. No difference.
Today I ran some kernel tracing tools on Aperture when it seemed to be
quite hung or at least slow, and found a few very disturbing
things. One biggy while deleting 1000 thumbnail images that got
imported when I imported my iPhoto library one directory at a time,
was that it was rewriting the same file:
    1388 Aperture CALL stat(0xf0101870,0xf0100fd0)
    1388 Aperture NAMI "/Users/jonathan/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary/Aperture.aplib/LatestDeleteDates.plist"

    1388 Aperture CALL statfs(0xbfffc6e0,0xbfffc5d0)
1388 Aperture RET statfs -1 errno 2 No such file or directory
    1388 Aperture RET open 14/0xe
    1388 Aperture CALL write(0xe,0x1eb2fa10,0x157)
1388 Aperture GIO fd 14 wrote 343 bytes
    "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    </dict>
    </plist>
    1388 Aperture RET write 343/0x157
    1388 Aperture CALL fsync(0xe)
It did this thousands of times, and there are several really sad
    things about this:
    (1) It's the same data and the same file every time.
    (2) It calls fsync(0xe) after each write.
The latter means that the program is not going to make any progress
until that data is written from the kernel's memory buffer onto the
hard drive, which could take many milliseconds depending on what
sector the heads are looking at right now! This is insane.
After the images seemed to be deleted, however, Aperture remained CPU
pegged for hours. I didn't realize it and had gone to eat dinner,
dessert, clean the dishes, get beaten badly in Othello by my 7 year
old daughter again, do her piano practice, and put her to bed. So I
kernel traced it again and discovered that it was endlessly seeking
around and then reading 1k blocks from some file, without actually
causing any physical disk I/O. In other words the entire file was
somehow in memory and Aperture was just running around in circles
reading chunks of it ... for hours, CPU pegged the whole time. I had
    to "Force Quit" again.
So, I ask you, What is this program good for? As far as I can tell,
nothing works properly once you pass a certain number of images in the
    library.
Here's what I think Aperture can be good for: load your new "roll" of
digital pictures into it. Hopefully fewer than 500 photos. Use all the
cool tools to group and stack, adjust the color tempurature, white
balance, sharpness, crop it, etc. Then export it to some random folder
and import than folder into iPhoto (or whatever you want to use to
manage your photo database). Then delete the photos from Aperture.
Folks, I am sorry to tell you this, but this is a program with bad
bones and it's not going to get fixed soon. I hope I can get my money
back. I've already been told that I cannot because I installed it, but
I am going to complain and make sure they at least know how bad this
    is.
Believe me I wanted this to be the best program ever. I have used
Final Cut Pro and Photoshop on my mac, and those programs are two of
the very best I have ever used. They are fast, extremely good at what
they do, perform well on much lower-performing hardware (e.g., my imac
G4 with 512Mb RAM), and they are just great in every way. I told all
my friends, "My love affair with the Mac can continue despite my
disatifaction with iPhoto because they have created another Pro tool
called Aperture which looks like the best thing ever!" But those demos
were all staged with very few photos in the libraries.
    Mac OS X (10.4.3)
Dual 2.5Ghz Power Mac w/3Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I've done some research on the SQLite database. Whenever Aperture hangs up (like during auto-stack or opening the filter hud) there are thousands of SQLite queries happening. These SQLite queries cause massive file I/O because the database is stored on the disk as 1kb pages. However, the OS is caching the database file; mine's only 12MB. I'm trying to track down some performance numbers for SQLite on osx but having trouble.
It's starting to look like most of the speed problems are in the libraries that Aperture uses instead of the actual Aperture code. Of course, that doesn't completely let the developers off the hook since they choose to use them in the first place.
Oh, and if anyone is curious, the database is completely open to queries using the command line sqlite3 tool. Here's the language reference http://www.sqlite.org/lang.html
Hmm, just found this. Looks like someone else has been playing around in the db http://www.majid.info/mylos/stories/2005/12/01/apertureInternals.html

  • How can anyone buy new model cameras without RAW support forecasts?

If a person wants to buy a camera and wants to use Aperture, what can they do? I'm sure I want to shoot RAW images, and I'm sure I want to use Aperture, but how does one buy a new model camera when they don't know what drivers Apple is working on adding?
I bought Aperture2 last spring and learned to use it with JPEGs, hoping to use it to shoot RAW images with a newer camera. I've researched cameras and narrowed the field, but when I went to the list of cameras supported by Aperture3, I was horrified. All of the cameras I chose shoot RAW, but almost none are supported in RAW yet, and there seems to be no evidence that they will. I've worked kind of hard, partly learning Aperture, partly researching RAW cameras, and now I'm kind of in shock.
For example, the Canon t2 just came out - the t1 is covered, but how long until the t2 will be supported? Many of the top bridge cameras I'm considering also appear to be missing from the new Aperture3 list - like the the Sony DSC-HX1, the Panasonic Lumix FX35, and the Fuji S200EXR.
I appreciate the RAW support for familiar models, and I appreciate the DNG conversion connection thing - that helps. But what if Apple never comes out with RAW for my new camera after I've committed to it? Adobe Lightroom RAW support list looks a little longer, but is still not much for new bridge cameras. Why should Apple try to keep pace with Adobe, anyway? Why not have an insanely great list of RAW support? Is it that hard to configure devices before they come out?
I could use some reassurance here.

Thank you all for your insightful feedback.
    I originally wrote:
+If a person wants to buy a camera and wants to use Aperture, what can they do?+
Ultimately, I bought a camera that I liked better than any in my price range ($500 or less) that shoots RAW, and is already on Apple's list -- a Canon G11. I want to get a good DSLR later when I can afford one, and then my G11 will make a superb and sturdy "pocketable" camera. The G11's flexible features are already helping me to learn not only about shooting RAW, but about photography in general. The pictures are gorgeous.
I'm using my new camera with Aperture 3, and it's great. I think iPhoto is good for many people, but for those like me who want to do more with their photos, and need a more sophisticated work flow - well, there's not much comparison between them for these purposes, even though they share so many features now (faces, places, et al).
    I also wrote:
+For example, the Canon t2 just came out - the t1 is covered, but how long until the t2 will be supported?+
Well, Apple got the EOS t2i raw converters into Aperture faster than I could get this post up. They were very, very quick. The more I learn, the more I see how many mainstream cameras Apple does support, and the more I appreciate the problem of supporting new cameras that Apple faces. But I still hope they keep facing it, and don't let up.
Clearly, there are always interesting cameras coming that may never be supported, and being able to handle RAW images outside Aperture may be some people's reasonable choice.
I came very close to buying several cameras that were unsupported or didn't shoot RAW at all. But I've already seen RAW save my pictures. I accidentally took a group of important photos with no white balance at all (they're pale green). Fortunately, I was shooting JPEG+RAW. The JPEGs are nearly useless, but the RAW photo's adjusted quickly to "just right".
Knowing I can make certain non-destructive edits with RAW files is very liberating. I know if I make a mistake or want to change the image, that there are a few vital parameters I can adjust.
As to my camera selection: I chose the G11 because so many people with real photography experience seemed to respect it so much. In the end, I decided that good image quality was more important than pixels, zoom range, etc. Since I decided to wait to get a DSLR, I wanted a versatile point-and-shoot with a retractable lens that would become, as I said, my second, more portable camera later.
I've experienced the companion Canon software now as well. It's fine, but I like organizing my photos in Aperture better. I especially need stacks, and being able to make major adjustments where I keep my photos is vital to me.
Now, Aperture is working well for me, and the experience is turning out far better than I had expected. I'm now loading directly into Aperture instead of referencing iPhoto, I'm handling raw images from a new, more modern camera, and I'm finally feeling settled and comfortable with my image workflow.

  • How can I become a Java programmer

I have started to study Java by Thomas Wu's book (java introdution)
I find it very easy to understand, and now I want to get some books or anyother information that can teach me everthing about Java.
I would like to follow good steps to inprove it.
Colud you tell me a good plan, please?
    thank you.

So, I guess by your examples all you need to be a good
programmer is to know how to use different types of
collections? The general concept of data structures and algorithms is alot different than Java collections. I've done this kind of programming in C, C++ AND Java. But, to use your example, even familiarity with Collections doesn't teach you HOW to use them. I can't tell you how many times I've seen colleagues of mine use parallel lists to implement a dictionary instead of a HashMap/HashTable. As I said previously, it will work but it won't ever be fast or the best solution.
And how exactly did YOU learn what
approach works best for those situations? Isn't
    wasn't experience, was it?
Granted, I have a fair amount of programming experience but before I'd worked a day as a programmer, I had extensive exposure to order notation (Big O) and algorithms. I knew how array based lists differed from linked lists in terms of the complexity (runtime) of various types of operations and could tell you the best implemenation of a List to use for a required usage pattern. I knew how hashing algorithms worked and what the importance was of things like load factor and collision resolution.
Furthermore, I never said that they shouldn't take
classes. All I said was that if they want a way to
learn but can't take classes that they should come up
with progressively more challenging projects to work
on. In my NSFHO, if they "can't" take classes then they really are getting into the wrong profession. I suppose that you wouldn't mind if your dentist or doctor had no formal education but had done alot of "homestudy"? You may argue that there is no comparison but I disagree. The price that an employeer will pay to fix poorly engineered code is exhorbitant, especially if it is dealing with monetary transactions (e.g. ecommerce). This could be a huge financial liability.
    Having said degree, and having
programmed everything from as low level as Linux
kernel code in C to high level as JDBC web apps in
Java, I can say that you learn, remember, and are able
to reuse skills FAR BETTER when you are forced to look
for the info yourself, and not just told what to do.Agreed. In none of my advanced courses was I "told" how to do something, only "what" needed to be done. The difference, as I see it, is that I have significantly more tools in my toolbox that I can use to approach a given problem, as I'm sure you do. As they say, when all you have is a hammer, all problems look like nails.

  • How can i become a composer for logic pro?

  • How can i become a beata tester?

    Hi there,
i would be interested to become a betatester for Captivate 3
    - can anybody help me to bring this on the way?
Thanks a lot for your assistance, wolvo

    Hi Wolvo
I might suggest one of the following approaches.
    1. Use the
    Adobe Support link
that I just inserted here (it's the same link that appears at the
    bottom of each post)
    2. Use the
    WishForm.
The WishForm contents should also get in front of the eyes that can
    make a difference.
For beta cycles, I think the big question is to ask if you
honestly have and are willing to expend the time to test things.
Just from a personal perspective, it can amount to 20 hours or more
    per week.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can anyone add to a SharePoint list but only some can edit all fields?

My office has a list on our SharePoint for product requests. We were trying to make it so that the "+Add Item" link was available to all who want to request a map but only specific fields such as Name or Description would be editable on their
end. Once the item is in the system, the SharePoint admins in our office could update things like Status or Analyst. However, after talking to the individual in charge of our SharePoint permissions told us that we cannot set this basic ability to "everybody"
and instead need to create a special group with limited permissions. Unforunately we have high-turnover between our office and other locations and see this causing a problem in the near future. Is there a work around such as creating a web app or form that
will push the necessary data into the SharePoint list or maybe just send it via email to designated recipients in our office to process it?

I do not see any simple solutions here.  You have various options, each with different limitations and each will require some effort to implement.  Mix and match as best meets your needs:
Create a standard list as usual*. In the lists's Advanced settings, in the Item-Level Permissions group, select the options Read all items and Create items and edit items that were created by the user.  This approach lets users create their own items
and edit them, and they can still view other's, but they cannot edit other's.  Note: some list templates do not provide the Item-Level Permissions group of settings.
Create a custom permissions level: copy it from Contribute.  Remove all of the Edit and Delete list permissions.  This approach lets your users create new and view existing entries, but not delete or edit them.
Configure Incoming Email, and email-enable the target list.  You can configure the list to accept email according to the permissions that person has with respect to the list.  Thus, for example, a person with Contribute permission level would
be able to send email to the list but a person with Read permission level would not.
Create the list.  This will also create default New, Edit and View forms.  Customize the New form in SharePoint Designer 2013 so as not to display the fields you do not wish the user to edit.
Create new site fields and content types: create one content type that displays only a few of these new fields and the other that displays all of them.  Add these to the list.  Configure a custom content type as the default for the list that displays
only a few fields.  Users will see this content type when they create a new entry.  Edit the New list form to display only this content type.  Edit the View list form to display only this content type.
