How can change my photo editor in iphoto preferences?

accidentally hit InDesign when setting up my photo editor in iphoto preferences. how can I switch it to Photoshop (which isn't currently listed in the dropdown menu, obviously)? many thanks,

Go to the Dropdown and select InDesign again, and the window to select an app will re-open.
If that fails:
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

This seems to be a recurrent problem. There is no very simple way to move a photo within an Event. However, the following (which I have not seen posted anywhere) works without needing to go to Albums, and is not too laborious for a few photos:
Go to Events in the menu on the left, under LIBRARY.
Select your event.
Highlight the photo you want to move, then go to the menu bar at the top of your screen (not window) choose Photos > Adjust Date and Time.
Adjust the date and time to get the photo to appear at the postion you want (sorry, you'll need to check the dates and times of the photo one side of where you want it to go first). Do this and your photo should move to the new position, defined by its new date and time.

Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

So I decided to offload some of my old photos. I used iPhoto to move some of my older photos to my laptop in order to free up space on my iPhone. Since then however, I have purchased an iPhone 6 (128GB) and storage is not as much of an issue. My question is... How can I add my photos back to my iPhone in the same order that they were before I offloaded them to my laptop? When I have tried to get the photos back on my iPhone, they are added as new photos with today's date and they do not sort correctly.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you have imported photos from your previous iPhone into iPhoto, and now you would like to sync them back in the order they were taken to your new iPhone. Regardless if you are syncing albums, events or the entire iPhoto Library, the photos do sync over with the same photo date that appears in iPhoto.

After update iMovie and OS Yosemite recovery, iPhoto icon disappeared. How can I find photos stored on iPhoto?

I am using iOS Yosemite 10.10.3. After update iMovie version 10.10.08 and OS Yosemite Recovery. iPhoto icon disappeared. I opened the Photos icon but all my images which used to be in iPhoto were not there. How do I access those images in iPhotos?

How can I import photos without using iPhoto?

I'm 37, a lifetime PC/Windows user and have finally made the switch to Mac after years of using every other Apple product, including iPod, iPhone and Apple TV, which, by the way, must be the most under-marketed and best value Apple product ever. I can't believe more people don't have Apple TV in their homes.
With PCs, I was used to importing pictures to my hard drive and then viewing and editing them with whatever software applications I wanted. With my Mac, I notice that when I insert my SD card, iPhoto starts and asks me to import, which I agree. Unfortunately, it imports the images to an iPhoto folder that I can't easily access from another program, such as PhotoshopElements. I have read how to use Finder to navigate to these imported images in the iPhoto library ("Show Package Content") and then I copy the folder of images and paste it to a folder in my "Pictures" directory in Finder, but I find this tedious and also redundant as I now I understand I basically have two copies of every image, one for iPhoto Library and the other for accessing via other programs, such as Photoshop.
Is there anyway I can simply import images straight to a folder on my hard drive?
Also, if I do choose to access these images via iPhoto, am I correct in assuming iPhoto will automatically create a duplicate folder, just for accessing in the iPhoto library? If so, isn't this a waste of hard drive space? Can this be avoided?

Hi Kevin, I am in the same boat as you having been buying PCs for the last 25 years and managing IT for SMEs I have now purchased my first Mac (mac mini). My move to Mac started with the iPhone that led to the iPad then like you I succumbed to the beauty of the Apply TV that then led to the purchase of an Airport Express. The love affair had to conclude in the purchase of a Mac!
For many years I have used the feature to have the date photos taken created as a folder and all photos from that date placed in that folder. Every year I create a new folder for that year and the import on PC creates the daily folders to hold photos …
I was just about to ask how I can keep doing this and realised it’s not as important as I thought – I’ll still create a folder for each year and just have the photos dumped in there. I can sort in Finder by date taken and catalogue in any way I won’t.
I’ll still use folders rather than iPhoto as I want other software like XBMC (on other OS) to read the photos.
Thanks for letting me rant – I thought I will post anyway as this is my first Apple post and it may assist others.

There's no such thing as an "iPhoto format". iPhoto stores the pics in whatever format your camera took them - in most cases that will be bog standard jpegs. These can be viewed on any system.

How can I get photos edited in iPhoto to update previously uploaded images in photo stream?

As soon as I import photos to iPhoto on my mac they upload to photostream, which is great, exept when I edit them (for example to remove red eye) they don't update on the photostream so when I look on my iPad they are the origanal photos. Can anyone tell me if there is a way of refreshing the pictures on the photostream with the latest edit. I have tried editing the photostream version but it takes me to the version in my iPhoto library which has already been edited. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can't do this.
Photostream is simply - and only - a replacement for importing. Once the file is imported them that's it. Photstream has no further role.

Hi,
I recently got me a new MacBook and thus dumped my old one at my parents.
They also have an iPad 3 and I configured their MacBook on Mountain Lion to work with their iPad.
I have a bunch of pictures in my iPhoto library that I want to make available to them. Ideally I would send them an entire album and it would magically appear on their iPad.
In lieu of that it would be nice if that album would just appear in their iPhoto account. Is there an easy way to do it?

If you've used iWeb at all you could get yourself a website and create iWeb album or photo pages with the option to download the photos. These two demo pages are examples of those iWeb pages. The secons has the download option activated (just click on one of the thumbnails): Using an iWeb Album Page as an Alternative to MobileMe Galleries and Using an iWeb Photo Page as an Alternate to a MobileMe Gallery.

You could also restrict access to those webpages thru the hosting service with passwords and usernames if so desired. The webpage could be access by any computer or mobile device.

How can I download photos from Mac iPhoto? (Programme error)

With five discs to choose from, and advice to use discs 3-5, I wonder whether I have made a mistake in installation - disc 4 didn't work so I installed 3 and 5, which seemed to be duplicated. Has this caused the programme error?

And what exactly has Adobe PS ELements to do with iPhoto? Or are you merely mixing up the names? You did install the correct discs as listed here. If you have specific questions regarding the usage of PSE, ask on the product forum.

Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.

Not sure what you are trying to do
If you want to use PSE as an editor for iPhoto then set it in the iPhoto preferences (you need to search the forums for the exact settings - they are not obvious)
The general answer to yoru question is to import a photo form iPhoto to any other program is to select the photo in iPhoto and export to the desktop and import from there
