How can FTP users access my NAS system via FTP client?

I recently purchased a 2 bay, 4TB Buffalo Link Station DUO in order to solve some FTP issues. I have about 50 users outside my LAN that need to connect drop files on my NAS, however nobody seems able to connect via FTP client. If they login using the Web Access Dynamic DNS address they can read and write via their web browser, but it's clunky and slow.
My NAS system has been given the IP adress of 192.168.1.254 which seem to me that it's a local IP adress, not a public/static IP. Do I need to manually assign an IP adress to my NAS system in order fot users to log into that specific IP and go directly to the shared folders on the NAS system?

Your NAS is getting that IP because it is behind your Router, which is the normal way to use it and as it should be.
You can not ASSIGN a public IP you your NAS. Only your ISP can do that and usually that incures an extra cost for more than 1 Public IP address. Usually included with a Business account and most of the time only available with a Business account. ISP do not want home owners running FTP or Mail servers on a residential acounts.
As noted you have to forward the noraml FTP port, port 21, in your Router to the IP of the NAS. Since you already have that port forwarded to your Mac, which I have no idea why you did that, you have to either change that port forwarding to the NAS IP or make the FTP server on the NAS respond to some other port and forward that on the router to the IP of the NAS. The to access the NAS FTP server you have to enter the piblic IP address of your router followed with a :and port #. XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:22 or whatever port # you assign to the FTP server on the NAS.

Since the coming demise of mobileme/idisk I have decided to publish all of my websites locally (created with iWeb) and share them by the Web Sharing feature in OS X. Everything works perfectly from any computer or device that is on my home network but once I am outside my network I cannot access any of my website nor can any family members. I have an airport network at home using an airport extreme and numerous computers and devices (ipods, ipad, etc) on the network. All can access from within the network but not from outside. What can I do to fix this?
I don't want to use a commercial service since my sites are large. Tried Dropbox and it was too cumbersome.

3 Users,1 Mac: 3 logins,1 Music folder. How can each user access the Music?

I posted this in a different thread but I don't think the topic is clear.
I have one PowerMac that I share with my wife and daughter, and we each have our own login and password so we can keep our Mail and iChat accounts seperate. We want to all be able to access and use all of the music in iTunes, but we want to manage playlists and to sync our iPods with the instance of iTunes in our own login. I also want to have only one copy of each song on the hard disk to maximize usage.
Sharing allows us to do just that. We can all listen to the songs, but only if the owner (me) is logged in first. But we cannot use them, per se.
Of the 5000+ songs in the library all but a handful of iTMS songs were ripped from my CD collection.
It seems as if OSX handles the users as seperate instances of the OS as if they were on entirely different computers.

How Can a User Access Georaster Data Owned by Another User

We are unable to view raster data owned by one user with another user.
Have a user that owns a Georaster table, and a spatial index table.
We create another user, and grant him "SELECT", or "ALL" to these two tables.
We still run into problems where the second user can not see some other table from the first user, so we run until we get an error message about some table, grant access to the table, and the next table, until we finally receive an error when trying to grant access to some table.

Here are the users, and tables specific to our example
User A: ORTHO (supplier)
User B: SCHEN (consumer)
We are trying to allow SCHEN view data from the raster table ORTHO.DEMOTB
We grant SCHEN "ALL" on ORTHO.DEMOTB, ORTHO.LGGI_RDT_ORTHO_C1, ORTHO.LGGI_DSC_COL_MAP, then we fail granting access to ORTHO.LGGI_DSC_COL_DBL_DATA_81
What are we doing wrong, it seems like this is a common work flow, we must be missing something obvious.

I suppose mashing up both Dan's answer and mine in this case is your best (and only option). The error, ORA-01720: grant option does not exist for 'LEICASYS.EDSC_VARRAY_DBL', is pointing to the fact that you not only have a GeoRaster table with GeoRaster and other native Oracle types, but also some extra user defined types (UDT) which your group has built to store nested arrays of information. Because the UDT in the table is its own object (just like a table is its own object) you must ALSO grant privileges to the UDT in order to use them in a cross-schema setup.
In other words, this is not a simple "how do I use GeoRaster across schemas" question; this is a "how do I use GeoRaster, plus other UDTs that I have defined myself, across schemas" question.
In this case you will have to login as a DBA or the user who created the EDSC_VARRAY_DBL type (LEICASYS), and specifically grant privileges on this type. Does that make sense? I know it's more work than what I alluded to before, but this is a different problem outside of the scope of GeoRaster.

As stated in the question, they have to login to their shell, and then pine forces another login. Each additional time they run pine to check email it requires a new login.
Is there any way to get rid of the additional authorizations required to read email after someone is successfully authenticated to our own student/faculty servers? Perhaps adding some sort of Kerberos ticket system?

Two options: 1. In configuration manager on the AW, use the user list tool to add the users domain account and select Webview access permissions. 2. Using standard Microsoft Active Directory tools or the Cisco Domain Manager tool, add the desired AD user account into one of the "WebView" security groups created within the Cisco OU.

Hello! Okay, so I am my computer's administrator, and I have a secondary 'guest' account that anyone else can use. So, I know that all my data on my main, OS hard drive is secure from the guest account accessing it, but what about the additional hard drive that I have installed?
I have a good deal of sensitive data and files stored (and aliased) on my second internal drive that I do not care for 'guest' users to stumble upon. How can I restrict access to the secondary storage hard drive from my Guest login account, and/or just plain hide it from it? Surely, there is a need for this that has brought about a solution. Any tips/advice/solutions?

Can two users access the same bootcamp (win os) instance?

We are two users who are using our imac and we both have own user names in mac os. I created a bootcamp partition with windows xp on it. Can both users access the same partition and create their own user spaces within xp?
Will that work also if we use Parallel or virtual box? (access the same user data as in boot camp?)
I would like to have the option for each user to access their windows data either through bootcamp or through the virtual tool.

Running on its own partition means that the installed OS has its own formatted portion (partition) of the hard drive. A virtual machine does not have its own partition. It creates a virtual partition (a file on the computer) that simulates a file system (partition). So Virtual Box, or any other virtualization software, does not run Windows, or any other OS in its own partition.

If all the users are locked , they can only be unlocked via sql.
Actually waht happens is if the uflag field of an user in table usr02 is 0 then the user is unlocked. Different values of the uflag field in table USR02 mean:
0          User not locked
32         Locked by CUA central administrator
64         Locked by administrator
128       Locked after failed logon
Incase all the users are locked execute the following sql to unlock them
update sap<sid>.usr02   (means update sapd01.usr02 or sapq01.usr02 etc)
set uflag='0' ;
commit.;
This unlocks all the users.
update sap<sid>.usr02
set uflag='0' where bname='xxx';
commit.;
This unlocksonly the user xxx.

Did you format the drive for Mac use before you tried to use it as a backup drive?
Are you using Time Machine on the drive? You can't view the contents of its backup database and the only way to access the info is directly from the Time Machine app.
