How can i access my home itunes library from an ipad while i'm abroad?

I've got my ipad 2 with me on holiday abroad and want to access a video that is stored on my laptop back home (it is in iTunes on the laptop but is not a purchased video). I have home sharing turned on on both the ipad and the home account - can i use this to see the video I want to watch? I can get someone at home to turn my laptop on all day if it needs to be on to use home sharing??
I've got an iPad2 running iOs 8.xx   and the windows 7 laptop at home has itunes version 12.01.26

Thanks, sounds like I may be stuck - unless you know how to upload a film from iTunes on my laptop onto the Cloud? Every time I've tried in the past it seems I can only upload music photos and documents but not videos?
Or is there a way to set up a VPN so my iPad thinks it is connected to my home network and therefore enables me to use home sharing whilst abroad?

  • How can I access the Home Sharing Library from my iPad?

We have an ipad 2 with ios 7, and an imac with itunes 11.1.3
Just heard about home sharing and want to use this - surprised we haven't heard of it before
home sharing is turned on in itunes (file > home sharing).
home sharing is on for the ipad (settings > music)
They are both connected to the same wifi network (usually our computer doesnt use wifi and is wired, but we turned wifi on just for this)
When I open music in the ipad (even after continually quitting and reopening the app) there is no 'more' button in the bottom right that there is supposed to be.
What is wrong? How do I access the library from the ipad? Help please!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
More does more than home sharing, so it's odd that it isn't there, even if home sharing wasn't working for some reason. Are you sure you are in the music app and not the iTunes App.

  • How can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!

  • How can I move an existing iTunes library from a Dell PC (which uses Windows Vista) to a MacBook Pro?  I have tried to copy the library from the PC onto a memory stick but cannot move from the stick onto the MacBook Pro.

I have tried to copy my iTunes library from my old (2008) Dell PC to a 32 GB memory stick and then copy it from the stick to the iTunes library in the new MacBook Pro which I purchased recently from a reputable dealer which resells refurbished Macs, (lease returns, etc).  The dealer was Computer Trends store in Saskatoon.  They told me how to move my existing iTunes libary from the PC to the Mac but I cannot seem to achieve that objective.  The Mac does not seem to recognize the memory stick.  I thought the Mac would recognize that the memory stick held iTunes files and would then transfer them without prompting to its own iTunes libary.  It did not do so.  I have therefore tried to find the command sequence within iTunes (on the Mac) for moving the material from the memory stick to the iTunes library.  Cannot find those commands.  Does anybody know where to find such commands.  I have to say, I am really disappointed that such a simple function would prove to be beyond my capabilities.  I thought the Mac was supposed to be easier than a PC.  !!!  Oh well, I am hoping this forum will help !!!

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
So, you can see your whole iTunes folder on the memory stick after copying from the PC?

  • How can I access my home security DVR from the internet?

My Time Capsule (as a router and not a bridge) blocks me from accessing my home security DVR from the internet.  I can access it from other computers connected to my LAN but not from the internet.  I guess it's a firewall setting issue.  I can't add the home security application to the list of firewall allowed incoming connections since it's a Windows app that I cannot install on my Mac.  On the other hand, the app is installed on my old PC but I can't access the Mac firwall settings from the PC and add the security app (If that's the problem).
My DVR is connected to a Netgear switch which is connected to the Time Capsule which is connected to a Cisco modem provided by Comcast. I thought one of the modem ports had to be opened by Comcast. That was not the issue.  After spending 2 hours on the phone with Comcast going in circles talking to 10 different overseas agents, they concluded the Netgear switch was blocking me from accessing the DVR.  I think they are wrong and that it's a Mac firewall problem.  HELP!!!  Does anyone know what could be the problem and how to solve it?

Did you forward the required ports in the TIme Capsule? If not it won't work.. it has nothing to do with firewall unless the DVR is plugged into the Mac. If it is plugged into a switch you need to lock the IP of the DVR and find out what ports are required.. usually just port 80, ie html.. but it could be some others.
Since Apple do not use upnp to open ports.. the TC will have to manually be provided with the ports.. Apple use PMP-NAT that is not used by the rest of the known world.. Just to ensure you stay in the camp.

  • How can I transfer my whole iTunes library from a PC to another without losing any information?

Hi, I have a very large iTunes library which is the result of so many years of listening to music. Although my computer is pretty old and slow and I would like to buy me another one. However, I cannot risk losing all the playcounts, ratings and information that I've been adding through all these years and the "Home Sharing" feature doesn't keep it (more specifically, erases all the ratings and playcounts). So, I would appreciate any advice on how could you do it.
I've read that if you click on "Export library" and then modify it with a text editor changing the location of the main folders it would be a way, but as I said my computer is pretty old and ran out of memory a couple of years ago, and I have like thousands of songs that with this system I should change it manually one by one, and that would take me weeks to do it. There has to be an easier way!
    Thank you in advance!

See this migrate iTunes library post.

  • How can I move my entire iTunes library from old laptop to new one?

I got a new iPad for Xmas to replace an old laptop not realising I would still have to have a laptop or PC for my main iTunes library. I have got round ths by creating my own area on my partner's laptop & have installed my iTunes library on there. However, it has only installed my purchased music & not my wider collection such as all my CD's that I burned then got rid of to go digital. I have my complete library on my iPad & iPhone but need it on my laptop too in case I lose or break a device & need to install my iTunes library to a new device.
I have followed the support detailing how to move your iTunes to a new computer but am not getting very far. I don't have an iPod to use as an external hard drive. I read that you can drag your iTunes library to a CD or DVD but my library is 16GB & I don't have any disc big enough!
Does anyone have an idea of a simple way I can do this? Is it not possible to do it directly from my iPad or iPhone seeing as my complete library is on both of these devices?

Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
To get all your content off your connect your iPad to your new computer.
Then use a 3rd party piece of software to transfer your content
I have found Senuti useful but there are others listed in the article I linked to in a previous post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
That will let you transfer your non purchased content
For Purchased content log in to iTunes on the new computer
In Itunes Store click on Purchased under the Quick Links section on the right.
Download any music by clicking on the cloud button

  • How can I permanently delete my iTunes library from my Mac?

I selected all of the songs and deleted them (and chose to move them to the Trash when prompted). However when I check Finder >>Music >> iTunes >> iTunes Library, the songs are still all there. I even restarted my computer and the songs are still there (although thankfully no longer in iTunes).

    Finder >>Music >> iTunes >> iTunes Library
There is no folder named iTunes library unless you created it.
There will be an iTunes music or iTunes media folder.
If you don't want an iTunes library, just delete the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder.
If you open iTunes, this folder will be recreated but no media will be in it (until you add some).

  • How can I access mail on my mac from my iPad?

I have recently converted to imac and ipad mini from Windows and so am still a newcomer to planet apple.  I think I have eventually sorted myself out but with one exception in mail.
I have transferred my outlook for mac filing system to mail using OLM Converter pro and all seems well except that I want to be able to see use and sync the filing system from my ipad mini as well as the mac.  It seems I need to transfer the filing system on my mac to the server so the ipad can access it - is this right, can it be done and how?
Any other fixes very welcome please
    many thanks!

thanks for the reply.  sorry I didn't make it clear regarding the "filing system" - this is just my name for the series of folders I created in Outlook for storing my emails.  Are you able to help with this?

  • How do I access my home wi-fi from my ipad?

Hi, I'm trying to use my home wi-fi on my ipad, but can't work out how to do it.  I have tried choosing my home network, which has a password, but it says that it's incorrect (but it's not).  I have tried 'Network' in the General settings, but it won't let me change the 'Network' from the mobile provider I have been using.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks Jill

Try setting up a new home network with a new password. If you are using Mac OS X go to System Preferences/Network and hit the plus sign at the bottom of the left-hand panel.

  • How can i change my home itunes control from my pc to my ipad

I am in the process of moving all my files from my PC to storage devices and cloud in order to make my new iPad my primary device for everything. No more PC. one problem I'm trying to solve is that I can access my itunes setting acct. info on my laptop, but not my iPad. How do I make my iPad the primary iTunes device?

Never mind, I figured it out. Like most things to do with Apple I'm finding, there is an easy solution. I was able to go to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign In> and access the personal info.
    So Long PC!

  • How can I send a whole ITunes library from one computer to another? AIM

Okay, I am trying to send a whole library of roughly 800 songs using Aol Instant Messenger. I have tried many different ways, sending the ITL file, the itunes 4 music library. When I tried these and replaced the library with it, it worked, but didn't know the original locations of the songs. the whole itunes folder would of taken too long. Is there any easier way to do this? Thanks.

The files that you are sending are only database files that tell Itunes where the songs are and your ratings playcounts etc - that is why on the 2nd computer it cannot find the song files.
You need to actually send the song files themselves which as you all ready have pointed out are probably too big to do via AIM.
